Hello everyone, and welcome to the Josie Show. I'm Josee
Pasentino Boon and my special guest today is Caylin Curtis.
I'm really looking forward to chatting with her, so let's
get right into it. Hi, Caitlin, how are you?

Speaker 3 (01:23):
I am doing so good. Thank you so much for
having me.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Oh my pleasure. Thank you so much for joining me.
I've been looking forward to this because you have so
many exciting things going on in your world. First off,
you made your Grand Ole Opry debut recently. Wow, what
was that experience like for you? What did that mean
and what did that mean to you personally.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Yeah, I mean it was crazy. It was one of
one of the craziest things that I've ever gotten to do.
And it was such an honor to be able to
step in that circle, just one of the most iconic
circles in one of the most iconic stages in country music.
So it's just an honor to be a part of that.

Thank you, You're very welcome.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
You're incredible, And I wanted to talk about your latest album,
You Need Jesus, which is your very first country album.
Can you tell us about that jump and you know
how that came about to release a country album.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I've been trying to find myself
in music, and you know, I just wanted to bring
it back to the roots. When I was growing up,
it was a lot of Schneia Twain and Martina McBride
and you know, so it was just it's kind of
brings me back to where it all started. And country
music just has my heart and I really found my
voice in it. So it was really great to be

(02:39):
able to work on a project like that.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yes, And it's such an incredible album. And your songwriting.
I have to talk about your songwriting here first, because
you've built such a reputation for being incredibly honest in
your songwriting. And you know how important is vulnerability when
you're creating music, because it's worked so well for you
and people also love and relate to your music.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Thank you. Yeah, it's uh, it's it's a little scary,
but it's also really fun. I get to tell my story.
And there's something specially about telling your own story because
a lot of people out there can relate to it,
whether you think so or not. You know, no matter what,
we're all going through something, So it's right, it's good
to you know, be open about that so people know
that they're not alone exactly.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
And this album is just is full of full of
that style and it's such an incredible album. Like I said,
and your son Jonah even jumped on a song on
this album.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Yes, that was so cool.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
It was amazing. I was so impressed when he talked
up in a verse. I was like, Okay, I get it.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yes, you know, there's actually a funny story to that.
You know, we've we've been very active on TikTok and
you know we've basically grown up with people on TikTok
and so we were on live one night and he
was doing his freestyle raps and somebody said, you should
do a song with your mom, and I had had
the first verse and the chorus written, so I told
him he could jump on and do a freestyle to

(03:56):
uh for the second verse, and that's what's on the album.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
So that's amazing. Is he really getting into music? Has
he picked that up kind of kind of following you
and seeing your journey. Has he kind of gotten into
that as well? He is.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
He's actually hopping up on some of these stages on
tour and he's singing for the crowd. So it's really
awesome that he's, you know, getting to dabble in music.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
That's amazing. That's the best childhood in my opinion, was
so cool. Yeah, that is so cool. And then another
collaboration that you had Life of Love with Struggle Jennings.
Tell us a little bit about that song and working with.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Oh Yes, that one was so fun. I knew I
wanted a like Bonnie and Clyde type of song, and
you know, you gotta have a Bonnie and Clyde type
of song and country music, something upbeat, you know. So
originally it was supposed to be, you know a little
more of like a slower song, and he was going
to sing on it. But when we started piecing it

(04:53):
together and I was like, dude, you have to rap
on this song. It would just be so it bring
it all together. And so that's where that came about.
So good.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
And there's a visualizer out for this one as well, my.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
First visual I've actually never done a visualizer, so that
it was pretty cool to be able to put a
visualizer out where we got to like kind of tell
a story in like thirty seconds.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yeah, it's on your YouTube, so everyone please make sure
you check out. You have great content on there. I
have to say some great music videos.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Thank you, You're welcome.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
You have everything. I went down the rabbit hole. I
enjoyed it.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yes, And I wanted to ask, is there a song
off of this album that you've enjoyed performing at live
shows that's also a real crowd pleaser.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
One of they're also fun. But one of my favorite
songs to perform is You Need Jesus. There's just a
moment at the end where you know, I get to
hit a note and I actually did it for the
opry and it's just like three seconds of just an
amazing you know no, and it's really cool to just
kind of get to experience that and perform it live.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
I love that. It's amazing when you're able to kind
of show a little bit more of like a side
to yourself and then you know, I think the fans
just enjoy that as well, you know what I mean.
They pick up on it, either vocally or if it's songwriting,
you know, whatever it may be. You're so well at it.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Thank you well. One of my favorite things about doing
the acoustic tour is getting to change up some of
the songs and do them in maybe a different keyear.
A song that was originally upbeat, we get to slow
it down, so it's kind of cool to give it
a new life.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah, that is your face to face tour, and which
is amazing, and you know, like you said, it's like
an it's like an intimate, acoustic and unplugged experience. So
I wanted to ask you what inspired you to take
this approach because I love it. I wish more artists
would do this.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
It was, you know, something that I wanted to do
for a while because I'd love to just perform with
an acoustic acoustic guitar, like I said, because you get to,
you know, re envision a song that has all the instruments,
but you actually get to strip it down and sing it,
you know, maybe a different way or if there's something
different that I want to try, that can do that. So,

(07:00):
but that's why I wanted to do the acoustic chour
because that's how the songs are originally written. There a
voice and a guitar, and so to bring it back
to its original state. It's really cool.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
And it just breathes such great life into music and
it's just you and a guitar, you know what I mean.
It's just so raw and I enjoy it. And fans

a great fan base, you really do. I'm a part
of that fan base for a while now. You are
just incredible, and I think it's just so wonderful how
connected you are with your audience and with your fans.
It's just it's so wonderful and refreshing to see. You know.

Yeah, it's been such a great experience ship because, like
I said before, we get to grow up together. You know.
I started social media, like really getting into social media
in twenty twenty, and so everybody, you know, it's six
years later now, and you know, they've kind of got
to grow with us. So it's been it's been really cool.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
And another thing I wanted to mention back to, you know,
your tour. You you'll also be joining as a special
guest on Jay Webb's The Homestick Tour starting in August.
That's gonna be fun.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
I now, I'm really excited about that one. I can't
wait to get back out there and get to open
up for him. Me's so cool, So it's gonna be
a great time.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
Have you worked with him prior or just met him.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
No, I haven't actually worked with him or even met him,
so this will be your first time.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Oh fun, Okay, I like that. That's awesome and yeah
so and of course the tour dates are all on
the website for this as well. But I have some
fun questions for you if you're ready.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
I love my PhD oh, let's do it that it's perfect.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
So, speaking of touring, you do so so much performing.
You have in your career for such a long time. Now,
have you ever had and embarrassing on stage, maybe just
like a mishap while performing live?

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Oh? Yes, I have. Actually, I was in Turkey, Texas,
and one of my most popular songs, God we Need
You Now, I ended up cracking on like one of
the biggest notes and I looked at the crowd. I said,
hold on, sorry, let me let me make up for
that one.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Hold on, wait a minute, rewine.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
It was. Yeah, it was a little embarrassing, but it's okay.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Yes, hey, you're human. Listen. I'm honestly shocked every time
you're able to do it. That's a gift, you.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Know, dude. I get After that, I was like, please
let me hit the snow, Please get me the snow right.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
And that's what's funny because a lot of people when
they're seeing, you know, their favorite artists perform, they don't
realize that it's like an internal thing too. You're like, well, gosh,
I hope I do this, you know. They think that
it just happens, you know.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Oh yeah, it's a lot of work.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
It is a lot of work. And the next fun
question that I have for you, is there a must
have item or comfort food item that you have to
have on tour with you?

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Oh? Well, let me think. I mean obviously my phone? Yeah, yeah,
did you did you say food?

Speaker 2 (10:09):
It could be a food item.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yeah, you know, we got to have the diet cox.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah, there you go. Yes, perfect, Yes, I agree. And
is there an artist that you would love to collaborate
with that you have not had the opportunity yet?

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Oh? Man, you know what would be so cool is
Brian Adams. Yeah? Crazy. You know that he was such
a big part of my childhood and I actually got
to bring my dad to meet him at one of
his shows a couple of years ago, and that would
be such a cool collaboration.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
That would be insane. I'm I'm let's start the petition guys,
we got to see it happen. Oh, you two wouldvive
well together as well. You guys would make incredible music together.
I'm in Oh my gosh, yes, that'd be amazing. And
then the final question that I have for you, which
is probably the craziest question you'll ever have, but I
love it, is is there an animal out there that

(11:02):
you feel best personality wise suits you? What would you be?

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Oh? That is crazy. Yeah yeah, let me think so
an animal that would suit me best? I mean yeah,
probably a cheetah because I'm always on the go.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
You know what, Yes, I see it. Yeah, that was perfect.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
And of course you know, they look cute. They're adorable.
I mean they're probably really scary, but they're adorable.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
They're adorable. Come on, now, I love it. You were
ready for it. I love that you were not stumped
at all by any of my questions. And thank you
