He has been involved in the franchise industry for over 30 years, with a focus on business development, sales, marketing, and system growth, both domestically, and internationally, and as a past franchise owner he is tuned to the challenges and opportunities in running a small business as well as a global organization. 

As the Vice-Chairman and CEO of CENTURY 21 Canada®, he also serves as President and Partner of the Charlwood Pacific Group (CPG) which has operations in 67 countries with 24,060 network members under five brands: CENTURY 21 Canada; CENTURY 21 Asia-Pacific; Centum Financial Group; Real Property Management Canada; and UNIGLOBE Travel International.

He has been involved in the real estate industry for more than 25 years.  He was appointed to the CENTURY 21 board in 2007 and took on the role of CEO in 2014. In addition to his responsibilities with CENTURY 21 Canada, he is involved in developing and managing the growth strategy for CENTURY 21 Asia Pacific, the organization’s joint venture partner.

Graduating from the University of British Columbia in 1990, he joined CPG, which was founded by his father, U. Gary Charlwood. He has since worked in nearly every facet of the organization, and has in intricate understanding of the business from both the franchisee and franchisor perspective across multiple brands and industries.

Named as one of North America’s top real estate leaders on the Swanepoel Power 200 list for the past 3 years. Martin has also been featured in The Wall Street Journal and Fast Company. 

Additionally, he shares his leadership experience as an active member in the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), the world’s premier ‘peer network’ for chief executives and business leaders, that focuses on developing better leadership skills through education and idea exchange.
