Speaker 1 (00:00):
For me being a Jewish person, like you gotta step up.
You're kind of someone people look up to in the
Jewish community.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
You have to be like, all right.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is not normal haha. With the guys. People are
coming in with real hate.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
The discourse is getting dark in America and what happened
to Dave Portnoy is just the latest example. We're gonna
break this down, plus so much more in today's episode
of the barad Versus Everyone podcast, my daily show where

(00:32):
we take on the craziest ideas from across the Internet
and social media, all from an independent political perspective. Up first,
we're gonna check in with the internet celebrity and Barstool
Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who is a controversial figure for
a whole bunch of reasons. But one thing that's not

(00:53):
typically very controversial that he does is his pizza reviews.
And he goes out of different places or reviews the pizzas,
uploads videos. I don't know, can't say I'm a diehard
fan of it, right, but this is a thing that
he does. And he was doing one of these in
Mississippi when somebody decided to walk by him and you

(01:16):
start yelling at him about the Jews and throw coins
at him. Dave is of course Jewish, and it's just
the incident has gone extremely viral. I'm gonna show you
what happened, but it's really disheartening and disturbing stuff. Take
a look like it.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
So look, I really I don't know what to say
about this beyond that it is just terrible. It's despicable. Sure,
Dave Portnoy is a controversial figure for a bunch of reasons.
You don't have to agree with his takes on anything.
And look, I can respect a wide array of views
on Israel and Palestine and geopolitics. But if you think

(02:21):
it is okay to go up to another American and
yell f the Jews at them just because they are Jewish,
let alone throw coins at them, then you're sick. You're
genuinely hateful and have hate in your heart to discriminate
and abuse any group of people like that. And that
would be just as true if it were Muslims or

(02:44):
gay people, or women or any or Christians or any
other group of people. This is not who we're supposed
to be as Americans. We believe in religious freedom, we
believe in tolerance in the true sense of that word,
where we live so by side and we don't belittle
and attack each other just because of the immutable demographic

(03:06):
traits we have or belong to. And it's just it's
not a one off incident. It's part of a broader
and disturbing pattern that I have seen, and I think
anybody who's on the Internet and now increasingly in real
life as well, has seen. And that is an uptick
in anti Semitism and hatred towards Jewish people. And it's
not jokes jokes. On one thing, I love me an

(03:27):
offensive joke, and I think no group of people is
beyond humor or beyond ridicule. But these are not jokes.
Nothing about that was funny. Nothing about going up to
somebody and throwing coins at them and yelling f you
Jew at them is funny or a joke at all.
This isn't stand up. It's just anti semitism. It's just

(03:48):
harassment in the street. But there is a rising group
of people. I don't know, I don't want to assume,
but the person who did this may well have been
a part of the Groper movement, a fan of Nick fuentees.
These people who are very open in their hatred and
bigotry towards Jews, and they seem to think this is
acceptable behavior. It's not. It's evil, it's classless, it's disgusting,

(04:12):
and it's un American. And I do think that it
is on the rise. It's happened repeatedly to Dave himself.
This is not just a one off incident of somebody
harassing Dave because he's Jewish. Somehow this has become like
a regular occurrence or a common thing with him and
other high profile Jewish Americans. Here's a Mediites reporting. Barstool

(04:36):
boss Dave Portnoy tells CBS he's sickened by NonStop antisemitic barbs.
It's every day now. Mediaite reports on a couple other
incidents where similar things have happened as well. A Temple
University student was suspended in May after he had f
the Jews put on a customizable sign at a barstool
bar in Philadelphia. The same slur was used yet again

(04:59):
a month later during a pizza review in Toronto, when
a man yelled f the Jews at Portnoy. So that's
a multiple times his pizza reviews on the street have
been interrupted by people yelling f the Jews. That is
not normal. What is going on? How does anyone think
that's an appropriate or acceptable way to behave In twenty

(05:21):
twenty five, some of y'all spent too much time on
four Chan, too much time on Reddit, too much time
listening to freaks like Nick Fuentes who espouse this stuff
from the safety of their mom's basement. But then you
go out and actually treat people like this? What is
wrong with some of y'all? Now we do have a
clip to take a look at from Dave discussing this

(05:43):
broader issue in an interview with CBS. First, though, do
make sure subscribe like comment all that. Remember, you can
also send in your voicemails for our Voicemail Friday episodes
where I react to her well car stories, I give
you advice on your personal life scenarios, and I answer
your questions. The LinkedIn send in one of those is
in the description. Now, let's look at this clip of

(06:03):
Dave discussing the issue of anti Semitism on CBS News.
Take a listen.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
I've seen in my own experience just being barstool, the
difference between how much hate I get. I never got.
I mean occasionally you get a Jew or whatever, it's
every day now, like there's a definitive shift in what's
going on. So yes, now, I for me being a
Jewish person, like you gotta step up. You're kind of

(06:29):
someone people look up to in the Jewish community. You
have to be like, all right, this is this is
not normal haha with the guys, people are coming up
with real hate.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Now.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Dave actually recorded this interview before the latest incident, so
he really is just experiencing this stuff all the time.
And you don't have to like him. You could think
he's terrible, hate his opinions, hate his takes, think he's awful,
But nobody should be treated like that just because they're Jewish.
And I'd say the same thing if it were another
group of people. But he makes it an important point too.

(07:00):
This isn't people being funny. It's not jokes. It's not
memes that we're talking about here, because I'm not one
to be like, oh you can't joke about that, or
that's offensive or anything like that. But we're talking about
actual rising hatred and animists towards people. And you need
you need to be able to separate this from the
discourse about Israel. You are allowed to despise the government

(07:23):
of Israel. You are allowed to criticize them, say whatever
you want and think they are horrible and terrible, but
not bleed into supporting or making excuses for this kind
of virulent and hateful anti Semitism. Once you start doing that,
not only have you lost any sort of moral high
ground you were claiming, but you've also discredited your cause.

(07:44):
I have always said that there's wide array of opinions
and debates that can be held in good faith on
issues related to Israel and Palestine. However, the failure to
police out just anti semitism from the discourse hurts the
anti Israel side for sure, because it lets people dismiss

(08:06):
the valid critiques as part of this anti Semitic push,
even though they're not Many of them are not. But
it is unfortunately caught up in this discourse, and it
is not just unfair to our fellow Jewish Americans, many
of whom are not even supporters of Israel's war in
Gaza at this point, to lump them in or conflate
their identity and their religion and their practices and beliefs

(08:29):
with this foreign conflict and this debate over it. But
it's also I mean, compromises your own movement and your
own moral high ground. So look, I think it's terrible.
The one twist to this story that I wasn't really
expecting and I have more mixed feelings about, is the
fact that the young man who did this has now
been arrested. We're going to take a look at this

(08:50):
reporting from TMZ. Dave Portnoy alleged Heckler busted, withdraws from university.
This was published just last yeah yesterday, yeah, yesterday afternoon,
so November tenth, and they said a Mississippi State University
spokesperson tells TMZ Patrick mcclintlock is no longer a student

(09:11):
at the university. A source with direct knowledge tells TMZ
mcclintlock withdrew from the university Monday evening. So we're going
to get into the fact that he was arrested and
the criminal allegations and all that. But I just wanted
to stop on this for a moment. It's like, great
way to destroy your own life, But like, was that

(09:31):
moment worth it for you? Because even if the legal
charges don't stick and I don't believe that they will.
You know, your name and face is going to be
associated with this senseless act of anti Semitism. They probably
told him, withdraw or you'll get expelled and your life
is going to be turned upside down by this, all
for what? So you could berate someone on the basis

(09:53):
of their faith. I mean, this is the kind of
like edge lord behavior, though, whether they admit it or not,
the nick fuent as Is of the world have encouraged
and promoted. And it's not just evil on its own merits,
which I think is obvious to anybody without hate in
their heart. It is also fundamentally self destructive, Like this
person's life is now going to be much worse because

(10:15):
they did this. No matter what happens with the legal
charges against them, nobody wins here. But great job, great
role models we've got for some of these young men
in America. And maybe he's not a fuentt As follower.
I don't know. I'm not saying that with certainty, but
the principle applies broadly here, even if we don't know

(10:36):
if it applies in this specific case or not. Now
let's get into the criminal allegations and charges against this
young man again reporting here from TMZ. The young man
accused of throwing coins and yelling f the Jews at
Dave Portnoy outside of Mississippi pizza shop has been charged
in the high profile case, TMC has learned. Brandon Lovelady,

(10:57):
public information officer for the Starkville Police Department, tells TMZ
officers arrested twenty year old Patrick mcclintlock on Monday and
charged him with disturbing the peace. As for the alleged crime,
love Lady tells us, every person has the right to
feel safe and respected in our community. Offensive words alone

(11:19):
are protected, but when behavior disrupts a public event or
risks violence, the Starkville Police Department will take steps to
help maintain safety and security. Here is where things get
incredibly dicey for me, because some of what the police
officer says here is wrong. Sorry, but hate speech is

(11:39):
free speech in America, and nobody has a right to
feel respected. That's a subjective feeling, and other people have
a right to be disrespectful or rude or nasty to you.
What complicates this is that this guy throw coins at
Dave and so throwing an object at somebody, I could

(12:01):
see how that could result in a criminal charge. However,
it doesn't sound like that's even what they're charging him with.
This disrupting the peace issue. What does that mean walking
by and yelling someone at hateful though, just those words,
that is free speech, that's protected First Amendment activity. And

(12:21):
if that's what they're trying to crack down on with
this arrest, then it's not going to stick. It's not
going to be constitutional or legal, and it's not actually valid.
It's censorship at that point. Even if something is evil,
even if I think what this guy did is despicable,
simply yelling after the Jews at someone is free speech.
Hate speech is free speech, and that's just the truth.

(12:44):
I mean, you have a right to be nasty and
rude to people. Now again, I think the complicated factor
is that he threw something at Dave, So maybe that
is where this avenue of criminality is going. But it's messy,
and I don't really think that legally trying to crack
down on this is the best approach. In fact, it unfortunately,

(13:05):
I think bolsters the narrative of the anti Semites and
actually probably makes this guy seem more sympathetic to some
of them, and maybe his new arc will be he'll
be a new America first influencer. For goodness sakes, I mean,
you already have anti Semitic voices like Dan Bulzarian tweeting

(13:27):
they are now arresting people for criticizing Jews. Now, of
course this guy did more than criticize Jews, but you
can see how a story like this will be taken
as further proof of their idea that Jews control everything
and you're not allowed to say this. Of course, you
are allowed to say pretty much whatever you want about

(13:47):
Israel and about Jewish people. But however, this specific incident,
because of the heavy handed way it's being handled, I think,
will play into those misconceptions and falsehoods and just make
everything worse. Don't think it will make things better to
try to prosecute this guy over this situation. Plus his
life's already i mean, been destroyed and changed irreparably because

(14:09):
of it. So I think that part is messy and
not something I necessarily support. But I do have a
lot of sympathy for Dave Portnoy and other Jewish people
who are going through it right now. I think, whatever
your views are on Israel, whatever your views are, on
these public policy questions. We should never lose sight of
the fact that it is fundamentally Unamerican and evil to

(14:32):
hate people just because of their faith, or their ethnic
background or anything of that sort. And I think this
is on the rise. I think this sentiment is not
going away. We need to confront it head on. So
this story about Dave Portnoy was very dark to me,
very concerning, But hopefully people can come together and draw
a line in the sand and say that this is

(14:53):
not who we are not in this country. That's my
take on it all. But y'all will have to let
me know what you think in the comments below to
make sure you subscribe to the like button and all
of that. Up next, we're gonna check in with our
favorite left wing celebrity and internet influencer, Hassan Piker, the
self described socialist and Marxist, because Hassan has gone on

(15:18):
a little trip to China to see for himself the
joys of authoritarian kind of socialist rule, less so now
than it was historically, certainly, but and he went there
to mess around and is already finding out. Shocker, So
this insane saga is playing out where Hassan went to

(15:42):
an event honoring Chairman Mao, the former communist dictator who
killed millions in China, and was detained by the police
and had his phone confiscated and inspected because of a
meme about Mao, and then he still somehow came away
with the pon that China is great, way better than America,

(16:03):
Like you actually can't make this stuff up. Here's the
footage of what happened with Hassan getting detained by a
police officer at this event and having to turn over
I think his friend he was with his phone, and
then I'll, uh, the footage might be a little hard
to follow, but I'll just roll it and then I'll
explain to you what's happening here.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
Roger easy this, Oh yeah, yeah, Okay.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
So in case that was hard to follow, here's the
reporting from Newsweek. Hassan Piker stopped from filming by police
in China.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
What we know.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
American online political commentator Hassan Piker is going viral after
being confronted by security while live streaming at Beijing's Tineman
Square early Tuesday morning. Footage uploaded to the live video
streaming place Twitch shows Piker and fellow streamers on their
visit to attend the daily sunset flag raising ceremony that
takes place in front of Tieneman Gate and the portrait

(17:10):
of Chinese Communist Party founder Mao Zedong. We should just
pause on that. If you guys don't know Mao Zadong.
The historical estimates vary, but there are serious estimates that
he is responsible for more deaths than any other human being,
including Adolf Hitler, because his repression of the Chinese people,

(17:30):
his killing of dissidence, the mass famine and starvations that
his policies caused, all of that contributed to so many
millions of deaths. He may actually have killed more people
than Hitler. But Hassan likes Mao and went to this
ceremony to be like, oh, this is awesome. Let's go
check out the ceremony honoring Mao. Yeah, this is totally

(17:52):
somebody who should be guiding millions of young people. Totally
fine and normal. Anyway, I'll keep reading here. Authorities closely
monitor recording activities at Chinman Square, a symbol of China's
political power, and sight of major historical events, including the
pro democracy protests the government forces violently suppressed On June fourth,

(18:12):
nineteen eighty nine. Within seconds, a police officer approached and
instructed them to put away the phone, which they did,
though the audio kept recording. Nef Neff, who is one
of the other streamers, then held up his phone to
the camera to show what appeared to be an AI
created image showing Mao in the likeness of Piker, accompanied
by the MAOIs slogan closely followed the Great Leader Chairman

(18:35):
Mao forward in the Revolution. So they're doing memes about like, Haha,
Mao's awesome. Hassan is just like mal Let's go King.
I mean, it should be viewed similarly to as if
they were doing that about Hitler. Hassan Piker is left
wing Nick quents just so you know, that's unambiguous at
this point. But the difference is that, well maybe it's

(18:58):
changing a little bit and nik quent being semi normalized,
but mainstream media and left wing progressive outlets and they
celebrate us on Piker, whereas obviously Nick Quentes doesn't get
that same treatment. Now, because this meme was shown and
an officer spotted it, they made them turn over the
phone and inspected it. So here's what happened. More from

(19:19):
Newsweek here. He wants to see the photo, the translator said.
After a brief exchange, Nef replied that he hadn't taken
any photo. The translator relayed, he said he saw you. Oh,
I was just holding the camera, but I didn't do
anything yet, Nef's answered. The officer then asked to review
the most recent footage from the live stream. The broadcast
abruptly cut to black, with an intermission screen displaying the

(19:41):
message we're doing secret memes, be right back later being added.
When the broadcast resumed, Piker and the group were seen
laughing about the encounter as they continued toward the square.
This is awesome. I don't know why people aren't enjoying
all of this, Piker said, What part of of being

(20:01):
detained by Chinese police at a celebration honoring a murder
as a dictator because they thought you may have had
a meme making fun of the dictator and having to
convince them that you actually meant to honor the dictator
is the fun in the room with us? Like this
is actually crazy to me. You went there because you

(20:21):
have this delusional, propagandized view that China is somehow this
amazing free wonderful place, and America is evil and bad
encountered first hand, like the kind of repression that people
complain about in China, and then we're like, oh, this
is amazing, let's go. I don't know, man, this is
so demoralizing that these are the most popular and listen

(20:43):
to people on the internet and they're just spreading this.
But the at least the comments on this were funny.
On x one person wrote, bro thought he could irl
in real life stream in Tianamen Square like it's Times Square.
China said content creation privileges revoked. Another person said Customs
and Border Patrol cech Cissan's phone. I'm being targeted. This

(21:05):
is fascism CCP Chexissan's phone. Oh it's just a quick
security check, No big deal. It is funny if you
think back, and we covered it at the time, and
I do think it was somewhat concerning, but I guess
I just don't know what really happened because I don't
trust him as a narrator. But Hassan played the victim
and cried wolf when he was interrogated entering the US

(21:27):
by Customs and Border Patrol. But the Chinese police stop
and seize his phone over a meme or his friend's
phone over a meme, and he's like, oh, this is fun.
Whoo yeah, like kind of diabolical. Actually, that double standard. Now,
somebody from the Hoover Institution at Stanford who grew up
in China wrote of Hassan's post, foreigners are finally beginning

(21:50):
to see a reality that Chinese are intimately familiar with
to day in, day out, and have long attained a
skin level understanding of not only is there no freedom
to criticize the government of China. People don't even have
the freedom to praise China. Whether you support or criticize
the state, all speech is subject to political review. You
don't need to expose the system. The system exposes itself now.

(22:12):
Of course, Unfortunately, this guy, who must not be too
familiar with Hassan's work, assumed understandably that Hassan's takeaway would
be like, Wow, dang, this really is kind of dystopian
and bad. Actually, his takeaway was that the police were
entirely in the right, and that American police are worse.
I'm not joking. You cannot make this up. I'm gonna

(22:34):
roll y'all. A clip of Hassan recapping what happened later
on his stream. And FYI, guys, this clip has been
sped up but not by me, so I can't undo it.
So sorry about that, but we'll just will help us
get through it quicker. I guess let's take a look what.

Speaker 5 (22:51):
With the pole showed up? The flaberating ceremony we went
to is not a thing that white people normally go to, right,
It's not it's not normally. It's not normally something like
wh people ten, right, And I assume that they are
probably extra attentive and extra careful about people coming to
to you know, do shit, like there's a reason why,
for example, there were Chinese nationals on each other's backs, right,

(23:12):
But I knew that like if we did it, we
would get called out by cops because like by and large,
specially like the government is aware of like how they
are perceived or or how much like you know, anti
Chinese probably exists out there.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
It's all anti Chinese propaganda after you've just had your
devices inspected because of a meme. Wow wow.

Speaker 5 (23:32):
And I think the older people are also aware of
it as well, But I think the younger populations in
China are ironically enough less aware, Like the younger normies
are are less aware of the animal SciTE that East,
which shouldn't exist all obviously, but unfortunately does, and it's
almost entirely one sided, entirely designed by America.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Yeah, we were, we're white.

Speaker 5 (23:47):
So as as foreigners in China at this like national
event rather than an international one, whereas you guys noticed
like they didn't, they didn't have any like foreigners there
at all. I think you saw something on the phone
like he thought you. We're like making a mockery, you
know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
So we'll get into the meat of this, he's about to,
but just so, he's saying they were justified to stop
and inspect their devices over and a meme the officer
may have spotted because they're white. And none of this
is ringing dystopian. None of this is helping him realize
that this is an authoritarian state. He's all just like, no,

(24:17):
it's fun. It makes total sense. Why wouldn't you inspect
white people's phones for memes as the police?

Speaker 2 (24:22):
What?

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Like totally yeah, sir, what the crazy thing is? I
think he believes all this. I don't think he's just
like doing a bit or playing a character for the
audience to monetize or capitalize. I think he actually has
drunk the kool aid this March, which is astounding.

Speaker 5 (24:41):
Really, they didn't realize that we were swagged out white boys.
We love China are being careful with the words. No,
I'm just being I'm just telling you what it is
like they thought we were. They were being extra attentive
to make sure that you know, no one is up
making fun out or anything like that, or or the ceremony.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
And that's what they were.

Speaker 5 (24:54):
They were. That's what was a policy close fort to
make sure they' WHYEO don't it's just a yeah, it's
cultural difference. And also they just don't want anyone to
pull logan pol or anything like that. How is it
resolved anyone just like talk to them.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
So let's he thinks that's normal and makes sense, Like, yeah,
of course, they were just making sure no one was
making fun of dear leader. You can't do that. You
can't have that. What that's called freedom of speech, it's
called living in a free country. You could, I know,
Hassan hates America and hates the West. You could go
to any public square in America and hold up horrendous

(25:28):
means mocking Trump and you're not going to get arrested,
and if you, by somehow did, it would be held
as illegal in court and you would be free to go.
Like he's like, oh yeah, of course. They were just
making sure they didn't know that we love Maw like
we're we think the guy who killed millions and engaged
in all these horrific human rights abuses is amazing because

(25:49):
he killed landlords and landlords suck like we love him.
They didn't understand. They were just making sure we weren't
doing the bad speech or the thought criming. Then they
would have had to, you know, I don't know, arrest us,
detain us, whatever, and that of course they would, sir,
the mask is coming off. Wow.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
We just were like, no, that's not you know, we're
not doing that at all. We're just here to experience
the event. This is actually one of the things I
want to show Americans in general, cause like people have
this like false assertion, false notion that it's up you
want this like false notion. It's like they will restue
for a meme or whatever. It's not like that at all. Okay,
it calmed down.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
Excuse me, It's not like that at all. But you
just explained that the police detained you to make sure
your meme wasn't making fun of Mao, and only you
were free to go one to explain that it was
a we love Mau meme. So it is like that
did he not just pick up on the fact that

(26:46):
he totally contradicted himself.

Speaker 5 (26:50):
Wow, it's funny because like I've dealt with costs at
this point all around the world, as you guys know,
and so as far as like COPT, I've dealt with
all around the world. You know, European cops in France,
American cops, you can talk another Uran countries and even
Japanes coups as well. I will say that it's not
even remotely up there farther. The further west you go,
the worst cops get, the more aggressive they get, America
being the worst one out of all of them.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
Well, I think that American police are certainly not beyond
a reproach, and I'm happy to talk about reforms, criticisms, flaws,
all that and more. But you miss me with this
this nonsense about how all American cops are worse. American
police can't detain you over a meme okay, because there's
something called free speech and the First Amendment, and then

(27:31):
the rare, rare occasion that does happen, it's overthrown in court,
as it should be. But Hassan, I think it's just
so clear that he has this virulent anti America bias,
and then this strong bias towards foreign authoritarian regimes and
even mass murderers just because they give socialist vibes or whatever.

(27:56):
And yet this is somebody who millions of young people
take their political cues and insights from. That is quite bad.
We are quite literally cooked if this kind of sentiment
and perspective pervades and spreads among the next generation of
leaders and voters and heads of household and American citizens.

(28:16):
But it's also a testament to how impervious people who
are truly truly seized by tribal ideology can be to
reality slapping them in the face. Because to any thinking
