"NO GOLD IN CALIFORNIA" is a Loose Bruce Kerr original from 1992 and a nod to Brian Wilson & the Beach Boys, a group Bruce grew up on and whose harmonies he learned on.
In 1992 the U.S. was mired in a recession in the economy and dealing with the disaster in Bosnia, ethnic cleansing, immigrants, homelessness, etc. The California of Bruce's youth and idylic songs of the 1960's seemed to be fading. With the fires raging across northern California today (Bruce lives there), the same might be said about now, nearly 30 years later.
Recording on a TEAC 4-track cassette deck, Bruce played the instruments and sang the vocal parts 1 at a time, mixing down as he went. Earbuds encouraged.
Loose Bruce Kerr is an irregular feature on the Dr. Demento Show and opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic back in the day.
