Op 17 februari 1934 werd het levenloze lichaam van koning Albert I van België gevonden aan de voet van een rots, Le Vieux Bon Dieux in Marche-les-Dames, in de Ardennen. Was het een klimongeluk? Of werd de koning van België… vermoord?
Twee maanden later worden in Gent twee kostbare panelen uit de Sint Bavo kathedraal in Gent gestolen. Op de achtergrond van dat ene paneel staat een rots die verdraaid veel op Le Vieux Bon Dieux lijkt. Toeval? Of was koning Albert die dag niet zomaar aan het klimmen. Was hij op zoek naar iets en wilde iemand hem tegenhouden? Is er misschien een verband tussen de raadselachtige dood van de koning en de grootste, nooit opgeloste kunstdiefstal uit de Belgische geschiedenis?
