Most doctors do not lose confidence because they lack skill. They lose it because the system slowly replaces judgment with protocol. In this episode of the Out of the System Podcast, Colin Rigney shares his journey from growing up as the son of a small-town physician to becoming a Doctor of Physical Therapy and founder of Advanced Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Center (AMSKU), where he trains clinicians in diagnostic ultrasound and regenerative care.
This conversation goes far beyond technology. Colin explains how ultrasound becomes a powerful trust accelerator, why insurance models reshape clinical decision-making, and how physicians rediscover purpose when they step outside traditional healthcare structures. He also opens up about entrepreneurship, fear in medicine, and the personal transformation required to truly leave the system.
Colin Rigney is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and the founder of Advanced Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Center (AMSKU), where he trains physicians and clinicians to implement point-of-care ultrasound and image-guided procedures. His work helps providers expand clinical skills, improve diagnostic confidence, and transition toward outcome-focused, patient-centered care.
Raised by a traditional family physician who practiced community-based medicine, Colin developed an early appreciation for hands-on healing. After years of working inside insurance-driven physical therapy models, he moved into entrepreneurship and physician education, helping clinicians use ultrasound as a gateway into regenerative musculoskeletal medicine and greater clinical autonomy.
