We have a truly special guest today. He knows a lot about leadership. He also knows adversity—but overcame it. As one of six children, raised in South Jamaica New York by a single mom who cleaned houses, he and his siblings didn’t always know if they would come home to an eviction notice on the front door or food on the table. When he was 15 years old, he and his brother were arrested for criminal trespassing. While they were in police custody, those officers beat him and his brother, repeatedly. But instead of giving into anger, he turned his pain into purpose and decided to change the police department from within. After finishing his education, he served for 22 years as an officer in the New York City Transit Police and in the New York City Police Department (NYPD), retiring with the rank of Captain. With a goal to continue being an agent of positive change, he went into politics and currently serves as Brooklyn Borough President - but his sites are set on becoming the next mayor of New York. Meet Eric Adams.
