Adam (00:10):
Welcome to the Sea Hawkers Podcast.
I am Adam Emmert and I'm joined today by my good buddy Clinton Bonner.
And Clinton, we're talking a little bit about Hard Knocks, episode two just aired.
This is our live reaction to it.
an episode that had a lot of stuff in there.
A lot.
It's gonna be fun to kind of pick through a little bit.
And I think one of the fun parts about Hard Knocks to me, Clinton,
(00:33):
is that everybody picks out totally different things a lot of times.
Mm.
And, it, it's always fun to hear what everybody kind of takes away from it.
But, yeah, man, interesting episode, and I know you are
jacked up to talk about it.
Clinton (00:46):
Adam, I am so fired up about this.
This might have been…
I saw Lisa in our Discord, which by the way, if you're here right now live,
you should be joining, subscribing, liking- Yeah … all the things.
Get in our Discord at getintheflock.com,
'cause Lisa just put in there, "That was the single greatest episode of
TV that humanity has ever produced."
And I don't disagree, Adam.
Adam, if I am to say to you, "The MOB is good," what would you say?
Adam (01:09):
All the time.
Clinton (01:10):
All the time.
Adam (01:12):
Yeah.
All the time, Clinton.
Clinton (01:13):
All the time.
The MOB, what, what a beautiful, culture, right?
To me, there's a lot to talk about, and for me, right out of the gate, the one
thing I kept thinking was, "Man, there must be about 27 or 28 teams that are
sitting at home, like, that are like, 'Why isn't my NFL life like this?'"
(01:35):
e- every aspect of it, Adam.
Adam (01:39):
Yeah, for sure.
'Cause there's a lot of different things that I think have been highlighted that
are special about Coach Mike, the culture, what John has, been trying to build,
just the brotherhood among the teammates.
And, you know, one of the things that I think…
I don't, I didn't listen to you and Brandan after episode one, but I
think it's really interesting how the VMAC itself is a star of this show.
Clinton (02:03):
Of course, of course.
Adam (02:04):
Right?
And, 'cause it is.
It's…
I've driven past, like, the Saints practice facility.
It's in, like, the industrial part of, like, New Orleans-
Mm-hmm … in this crappy dome.
Like, you go there, you'd think you're going to football prison.
Like, to go to the go to the lake- Kinda are, you know … and experience
what they experience, and then, you know, the way the coaches build their
culture, it, it really is special.
Clinton (02:26):
it's, it's unbelievable, and always special is Ryan911,
our executive live producer, coming in with a 999 super chat.
He says, "We need a Hard Knocks spinoff that's just, like, 10 episodes of
Sam throwing spirals in slow-mo."
Adam, to me, this hearkened- but thank you, Ryan, so much.
(02:46):
This hearkened back to, like, NFL Films good old days- Oh, God
NFL Films with the deep, you know, deep voices, and they're in the
tren- the lam- John Facenda Exactly.
And the slow-mo spiral, maybe a l- maybe a little glow up from the NFL, from HBO?
A little glow up for Sam Darnold, Adam?
What, what were you thinking while you saw Sam?
(03:08):
Maybe we call him Sa- Sammy Spins now.
I didn't know his rotation rate was that strong.
Did you?
Adam (03:14):
I had an inkling, a- actually.
Hmm.
And, we'll, we'll get to that in a second.
But I think it's very interesting that this is one of the things
in the comments that's popping up, like, right out of the gate.
Our buddy James, he just- Yeah … down the road from me, he
gives me a call during the, you know, Sammy slinging, you know, spinning,
like, portion of the episode.
(03:34):
Yeah, yeah.
He's like, "Do you believe this?
Look at this."
Like, everybody was, was fired up about it.
And look, man, I'd be first one on the record i- to say give me
slow-mo throwing motion balls in the air stuff all day long.
I was transfixed.
I was transfixed because it's beautiful, and Sam's motion is beautiful, and
(03:56):
couple things about the spin rate.
Mm-hmm.
Like, hey, I wanna know how fast Warren Moon's spin rate-
Clinton (04:02):
Oh, God, who was in the episode, my best friend, who we sat
down with at the- Hear that … draft.
Adam (04:06):
the, the other thing would be, I had kinda gotten an idea about
Sam's spin rate- Back, I don't know if I'm still here or if Clinton's still
here, so, you guys let me know.
Clinton (04:19):
Yeah, I, I could hear you.
your, your, your audio kept going, you froze up for a second.
I, I think I'm good- You froze up though … but keep on r- Oh … keep rocking.
Keep rocking.
Adam (04:26):
All right.
Very good.
So, where I kinda got turned on to the idea that Sam can really spin it is,
there's a video that was done, and I think it was even before his Vikings season.
Jason Garrett went around the NFL, was talking to quarterbacks about
throwing motions and stuff like that.
Eventually gets to Josh Allen, and he asked Josh Allen, he's like,
"Oh, who s- who spins it the best?"
Clinton (04:45):
Hm.
Adam (04:45):
And r- without a b- missing a beat, he's like, "Oh, Sam.
Sam spins it better than anybody."
Clinton (04:50):
Yeah.
Adam (04:50):
And so this has been something that, you know, if you're in the
know, like it- it's been a thing for like a while apparently,
which is, which is pretty cool.
But it does, it is nice to see Sam get some shine.
Clinton (05:04):
I wanna…
And some of the little interstitials between, the s- the slow
motion gorgeous shots that cause James, hello James, you're,
you're the man by the way, hello.
Got to hang out with him at the opener last year.
He's a really cool dude.
but the Jake Peetz interstitial about kinda that Goldilock zone of
Sam throwing the football, I thought was like an interesting tidbit where
(05:25):
they go into a little bit of the data, but then Jake is kinda like, "Yeah,
you want this, this velocity, but you don't want it to be, you know,
incredibly over-powering so it's right in that sweet spot to catch footballs."
And then Adam, they just show catch after catch after…
It doesn't matter whether it's Kupp or JSN or Arroyo or Horton, it, it
doesn't really matter, but boy oh boy was there lots of, pinpoint passing
(05:50):
from Sam really throughout the episode, and they really did harp on that.
And there was one, one note later I took where Macdonald, I think he
says something about his timing.
He's like, "Man, compared to last year," he's like, "his
timing is so just on point."
I have a thought about that, but first to you.
Anything pop out to you about, about Macdonald glowing about Sam's timing?
Adam (06:15):
I don't know if it's necessarily about the timing, but I think the
timing can point to kind of my thought process from that, is this matches
up with the reports that you've been hearing from training camp over the
last week or so, where the offense has been giving the defense a, a
good bit of the business- Mm-hmm.
Yeah … you know, throughout training camp.
And, you know, timing is a big part of that and being on point.
(06:36):
You've heard, you heard Mike talk about the five starting offensive linemen
in his last presser, and just how well they've been performing and what that
means in, how much easier that makes Fleury's job at any given point.
So it, it is interesting to watch that the offense, under a new coordinator- Right
… seems to be clicking early against the best defense in football in training camp.
(07:01):
And if there's anything positive to take away from training camp hype
or, you know, the, the, the hate that comes out of training camp
sometimes, some guy's underperforming or whatever, like this feels real,
the idea that at this point anyways, the offense is really clicking well.
Clinton (07:17):
You hit it on the head, and that was what I had circled
when they kept talking about Sam.
And yeah, there was the, the little section where they showed JSN having
that discussion in the room, and it was, you know, maybe a little bit
about, hey, it's a new offense, we got some new language on the board.
And alm- almost JSN being like, "Why do we need all this new language?
It's the same thing," you know?
Yeah.
which is also a breadcrumb that it's, in his eyes, it's the same thing, but
(07:42):
we're a couple of episodes in now, and there's been a smidgen of Brian Fleury.
And I don't think it's 'cause Brian Fleury's boring or, you know,
hard to listen to, I think it's 'cause there's not a story there.
You know, like- Yeah … there's not, there's not a story to dig up there,
which you were just alluding to.
And I think that's a big freaking story in and of itself is like,
dude, we have a brand new OC.
(08:03):
Yes, it's a similar system, but it's not the same thing.
And, and if the offense is looking this good, and I'm not trying to get hyperbolic
about it or get overexcited, although I do like to get excited, it just lends itself
that it's, it's looking very positive for sure that we'll be able to pick up where
we were towards the end of last year.
(08:25):
I'll say all that with the caveat of, Adam, if, this is, this is
basically without pads or with pads where you really can't rush the passer,
if we could run the damn football.
And I don't know that yet.
I don't know that yet.
Adam (08:39):
No.
And I'm not sure that we're gonna know that answer until, or begin to
know that answer till about week four.
Clinton (08:45):
Yeah, that's fair.
Adam (08:46):
I, I, I really don't know that you can be super declarative
about anything till about week seven or eight for the most part.
but- Anyways, the transition from Flurry, you know, Kubiak to Flurry
seems to be one that has been seamless.
I think their personalities are similar-ish from the
(09:06):
little bit I've heard.
Flurwy Taki's a little bit more verbose than, than Kubiak, but,
you know, a pretty, pretty stoic guys, I, I would say.
And look, I relate with JSN when it comes to the, it's all on the board,
and he's like, "Yeah, I, I, I went up and I smashed the guy," you know?
Yeah.
Or whatever it was, like yeah, you, you're supposed to go
Clinton (09:28):
block, right?
He was, he goes, something happened, he's like, "Then I do the safety
thing," and he's like, "I did it."
He's like- Yeah, he's
Adam (09:31):
like, "I did the thing.
It's good."
Yeah.
"I don't give a [bleep] if it's called this or that or whatever.
Why is this on the board?"
Like, I, I think one of the things that frustrates me the most as a fan, about
football and trying to understand football more each and every year is that the
terminology is so different from team to team, player to player, like season- Yeah
to season, and everybody uses those new terms as if, well, yeah, that's
(09:54):
what it's always been called.
What's your problem?
And it's like- Right.
Right … I, it drives me nuts, so I'm with JSN on this one,
even if it, that was…
The funny part is, is that was the, kind of the little moment in
the show where they were trying to show, you know, coach saying, "Ah,
he's the easiest superstar ever."
Right.
Right.
And they'd be like, "Oh, and here's the friction."
Correct.
Right.
And the friction is him, like, joking around about how he's tired of all
(10:16):
the, the new terms, like oh boy.
It, it does really illustrate just how, low-maintenance JSN is, and
Clinton (10:23):
it's great.
Yeah.
That, that's exactly.
I, I wrote down, my notes were no drama, high growth JSN, you know?
And, and then I wrote, hey, maybe more complexity in the offense w- w- during
that conversation, but then throughout the whole show and two episodes, it's
like, well, if there was a lot of friction there, they'd be featuring the
OC, which they, they're not, you know?
(10:44):
Right.
So it's, it's- At least
Adam (10:45):
not yet.
Yeah.
Clinton (10:46):
Yeah, exactly.
At least not yet.
All right.
So look, we wanna remind folks, like, subscribe, all those things.
It helps out a ton.
Hit the, hit the likes and comment.
Drop your comments.
We wanna hear in the thread right now what was your favorite moment,
your most surprising moment.
Put those in the live thread.
We'll talk about them.
Adam, there was a lot to go.
I've kinda led out so far with some of my favorite moments- Yeah … or at
(11:07):
least ones that were on top of my mind.
What were some of your favorite moments, biggest surprise, or the thing that
you're really burning to talk about?
Adam (11:14):
Well, one of the first things that they started with at the very beginning of
the episode, then they came back to it and showed the full interaction, is Mad Mike.
Yes, dude.
I love Mad Mike.
Clinton (11:23):
That, that opening.
Are you kidding me?
Adam (11:25):
Oh my goodness, like, that was so entertaining- Yes … on so many levels.
Like, when he's like, "You can bitch about it all you want.
I don't care.
Whatever.
Turns out, I run the [bleep] practice."
Clinton (11:37):
Right.
Right.
Adam (11:38):
Like, that was so great because- The, the side of Mike that
we get, and that's the side he's supposed to present to- Correct
you know, as the head coach.
You know, mild-mannered, you know, all that stuff, right?
But to see him tear into, you know, Derick Hall that way-
Yeah … that was really fun.
also, Derick Hall, stay away from the quarterback.
Stay a- just stay away from the quarterback, please.
Clinton (11:57):
Right, right.
Yeah.
And I love the Adam Dirty, piece later where he's like, "Hey," you know, right?
He's like, "Yep, gotcha, Mike."
He's like, "And that's what makes him special."
So like, you know, just that other, the balance of that side, right?
The sober yin to the ridge of yang.
And with all that, to go put it back on Macdonald.
Also that idea of the, man, other, the probably 27 other teams being like, "I
(12:19):
c- I can't believe this is what they had up, up there," the coaching, the culture.
And that was the cold open that I was just like, "Oh my God."
Like kudos to HBO.
They know what they're doing.
They've done it for a long time now, Adam.
They know, they know drama.
But boy, did they really pick a, a beautiful moment to just…
(12:39):
Y- we do not get Coach Mike like that, but because…
Wait, Adam, did the Rams win the Super Bowl?
'Cause I keep hearing about the Rams because who won-
Hmm … the Super Bowl last year?
Adam (12:49):
Oh, that'd been us.
Who- oh- Adam … when you said, "Have the Rams won the
Super Bowl," I was just checking.
Oh, not yet.
Clinton (12:54):
No, no.
Okay.
Right.
Adam (12:55):
No.
Clinton (12:55):
Not yet either.
No.
So winners, winners get sprinkles.
We got, we get hard knocks, and we get Coach Mike like that, and it's
just really cool to see because- Yeah
last episode we saw the honest conversation where he had to go check was
it, was it Bra- r- Brady Russell, right?
Yeah.
Where Russell was getting into it with Derick Hall.
So Derick Hall is kind of in the mix of all, quite a bit of,
(13:15):
the drama so far, right?
And again- Yeah … HBO has the cameras and they have the editors.
They'll do what they want with that.
so but we saw Coach Mike, a different side of Coach Mike,
having a very quick and, and could be difficult for some people conversation,
but called it out, nip it in the bud.
Let's hug it out.
We love each other.
This one was like he, he, he comes back and explains it and says, "Look,
(13:38):
I gave him kind of a warning, you know, a little bit more politely- Mm-hmm
the first time, and it didn't seem to stick, so I, I had to go there."
very interesting and just the intensity was…
It was r- it was, it's refreshing because it wasn't
like crass for the sake of crass.
It was like, no, no, no.
No.
(13:58):
He had to get a point across about quarterbacks in the NFL,
and I think he did it effectively.
Adam (14:03):
Yeah, you really did.
And one of the things I've been enjoying about Hard Knocks as a
whole is just, look, the, these are grown-ass men talking to grown-ass men.
And, like, y- just- Yeah … direct, honest, you know, at it.
If there's a few cuss words dropped in there, like, yes, thank God.
Like, can we all just talk to each other like that every day?
Like, I, I mean, it'd probably be a little filthier in terms of the language,
(14:26):
but you know, we'd probably get to the bottom of things a lot quicker.
I do really enjoy that.
and it also shows Mike's fairness a little bit too- Yeah … in that scene,
just the idea of like, "Yeah, I gave him a warning, and, they didn't take it.
And then, all right, that's fine, but you ain't walking all over me, and
you're not walking all over my practice, and you're not hurting my quarterback.
I don't care if we just paid you.
I don't care how tall your truck is.
(14:47):
Get your ass- … and sit on the sideline."
And I love it.
Clinton (14:51):
Did you catch, so Mike Macdonald, when they revisit- revisited it a
little bit later, he dropped a really great, a really great homage line.
Did you happen to hear what he dropped and, and who he was referencing?
Adam (15:04):
Mm-mm.
Clinton (15:04):
When he was talking about the Derick Hall thing.
So he c- he ends up calling Derick Hall later.
He doesn't say it exactly this way, but he basically calls him a, a, a
habitual line stepper- Yeah … which is directly from the Chappelle's Show.
So like it's- Oh, is it?
Okay … it's, it's, Chappelle was talking about, what is it, the
Charlie Murphy episode when he was talking about- Mm-hmm … Rick James.
And he, and it's, it's like, you know, "Rick James is a
(15:25):
habitual line stepper," right?
So kinda cool because I picked it up and I'm like, "Oh my gosh."
The, an- one more reason to, to like Mike Macdonald.
Yeah.
He recognizes that the Chappelle's Show is on the podium for best,
best comedies I think ever created.
All right.
So we talked Macdonald, the cold open, we talked Derick Hall.
What else struck you, dude?
Adam (15:45):
just on a small scale, I'll slip this one in here real quick.
All you folks out there in Spokane, Ernest Jones has your back.
Yeah.
yeah.
Yeah.
Like, whoever started that fire, we're gonna kick their ass.
Like, I was like, "Ooh, okay."
Clinton (15:57):
Well, I think they- Like- … I think they found the dude who started
the fire unfortunately, right?
Mm-hmm.
So yeah.
Adam (16:00):
Yeah, Ernest Jones will be looking for him too, so, look out, you
know, tough break for that guy.
Like- Yeah … I, I don't want Ernest Jones hunting me- No … that's for sure.
Clinton (16:08):
No,
Adam (16:08):
no.
But I, I think that's pretty cool, and it kinda ties into one of the bigger things
right at the end of the episode, and it's actually- Yes … been in the first
two total, is Mike's, like, mindfulness of, "Hey, go take care of the 12s."
Clinton (16:21):
Yeah,
Adam (16:21):
absolutely.
"Go take care of the 12s."
Like, he, he says that a lot and, like, keeping all of us in mind, knowing
that, like, hey, you're, you're the guys that make all this possible by
your interest and your hard-earned money and all of that, right?
And- Obviously … your love and the way that you guys travel as a fan
base and support us and all that.
And just making sure that the, the- whole team takes the time
(16:45):
to go out and appreciate the fans the way that we appreciate them.
And I wonder, you talked a couple times now of the, you know, 27
other teams going like, "Really?"
Like- Yeah … "We don't do that here."
Like, I feel like that's one of those.
Clinton (16:59):
I absolut- well, I think that's probably not the
culture in, in every place.
I think that's an element for, like absolutely for sure, like one
of the elements of just like that go into the cauldron of why this
is a better place to play and live.
And we could talk about Leo, 'cause that was also just, "Hey, let's show
more great- greatness of why you wanna move to the PNW and get out, get out
(17:19):
of, you know, the East Coast where I've lived my entire life," right?
but it, it is all wrapped into culture.
Even when he's talking to the Spurs head coach- Yeah … he's talking
about, he's talking about culture.
But the other moment that came out for me that was a pure culture moment was,
actually a couple more, but one in, one very specifically early on too, is
(17:40):
you get the fight between, between Mason Richman and Riley Mills, right?
And Riley gets a little- Yeah … heated.
He's all locked up.
Mason's doing a nice job, by the way.
It's cool to talk about the, the moments in this thing, but I also
like seeing Mason Richman locking up a big dude like Riley Mills.
Like, that was a great, great session, great 101, won it clearly.
(18:01):
Love seeing that because can't have enough good offensive linemen, and
we know Riley Mills is already good.
So, so Riley Mills takes that kind of swing, but then they purposely show
the entire room re-watching it, Adam.
Mm-hmm.
And they go kind of bananas when they see the swing to the helmet.
But then, they could have left it there or berated a player in front
of, you know, 100 different people.
(18:22):
But no, Adam, what did they do as a team to, to settle it?
Adam (18:27):
they blew out rotator cuffs, or at least that's what it would do to me.
they, picking up sledges and, one in each hand and
having to hold it out, you know, a- and see who drops it first.
And, I think, so that's a cool way to go about it- Yeah … number one, in
terms of, "Hey, let's settle this.
here's another form of competition," right?
Yep.
I think the other cool thing about it is, just how much the team was into it.
Clinton (18:52):
Yes.
Adam (18:53):
100%.
Like, they were into it.
So, like they found something that, you know, like touched for the team, you know?
It was something that connected, and that was really cool.
the other thing about it is Riley Mills is a stone cold dude, man.
Dude.
Like the whole time he's doing that, he's just kind of looking
over like- He's smiling.
Clinton (19:10):
He's smirking, right?
I mean, we sat next to him.
"I can do this all
Adam (19:13):
day."
Yeah.
Clinton (19:13):
We were, yeah, we were, we were at the casino with him, for the draft
party and, you know, we have an interview with him on, on our YouTube channel.
Go check that out.
Yeah.
And great dude, big guy- And y- the moment that competition was
starting, I was like, "Well, I bet Mason Richman's a strong dude."
I was like, "But I don't think Riley Mills loses this i- in a, in 10 out of 10 times.
(19:35):
I just…
100 out of 100 times, or 99 out of 100."
I was like, "I just don't think so," because-
Adam (19:40):
Yeah
Clinton (19:40):
he just has that big boy strength, you know?
He has that- Yeah … u- that unk strength, but he's a young man.
So I'm really excited to see that, progress into the year.
But it was kinda nice too because, again, took a negative, turned into a huge net
team positive, and Riley Mills comes out the hero for the room, although he
was kind of the villain on the field.
(20:01):
But again, their form of hugging it out, which I thought was really, really cool.
So, that was…
It was…
Yeah, he definitely was smirking, looking right the entire time.
Yes, he's checking to see, you know, where, how Mason's
doing, but he was smiling.
Yeah.
A little diabolical, dude.
It
Adam (20:17):
was cold, man.
Clinton (20:18):
Yeah.
It was
Adam (20:18):
cold.
Clinton (20:19):
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah
… Adam (20:20):
so Marlon here says, "Now I know the shadow boxing thing," and I
did wanna kinda- Great, yes … touch on that 'cause, I'm still not
sure I completely understand it.
so whichever way they move their hand, if the dude looks the same
way they move their hand- Right, it's, it's just- … then game over?
Clinton (20:34):
Yes, I get, I get it now too.
well, at least I'm getting it now too.
Last week I think I did call it stupid, so, I, I reserve
the right to get better myself.
And- But now people can get better.
and yeah, that, but that was it exactly.
You wanna get them moving in the direction you're pointing.
And so if they move any- Yeah
other way, they're kind of free I think.
(20:54):
I don't think you gotta be exactly opposite.
Right.
You just can't be going their direction, and it's gotta be
three in, in suc- succession-
Adam (21:00):
All right
… Clinton (21:01):
to win the round.
So, but again-
Adam (21:03):
So, so this increased your opinion of it?
Clinton (21:06):
Well, it, it increased the m- the importance of the team who gets around it.
Like as a culture- Right.
Okay … they like it, and that's what they do, and maybe it's a reflex thing.
And I like the idea where they said, "Well, you know, we got running backs
going against defensive back coaches," like when they ta- well, not the
exact- Yeah … example they gave, but I'm all about that kinda stuff.
I'm all about, like Mike Macdonald last year was like, "Hey, pair up
(21:29):
with somebody and go take every d- every week go take a walk with them,
and go learn about them as a human."
Yeah.
With the, with the, with the forethought that if you learn about
somebody as a human, you're just gonna care more deeply about them, and- Yeah
that means a lot when you're, when you're going i- into hard stuff
with somebody on a day-to-day basis.
(21:49):
To me, it's just an extension of, of that, goodness.
So in that regard, yes.
Adam (21:57):
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, if it does, you know, bring the type of bonding
that it seems to, then great.
I thought it was more like fake fighting.
so this, this looks like some silly TikTok dance to me.
And so I lost respect a little bit for it, but you know, hey, if it's good for the…
It's good for the team and good for the guys and they enjoy
it, then, all the better.
(22:17):
you know, it's interesting 'cause, you know, we're going through some
of the topics here, Clayton- Yeah
and, I, all of a sudden we've got a few things popping up here from, Mike-
Clinton (22:29):
Yep, we got Michael Knight.
I'm not sure if Adam froze or if it's me, but- Oh … for, for me, Adam
froze there for a second, and Michael Knight's saying that the biggest
star so far was Derick Hall's truck, and I know, Adam, you got takes on that.
Adam (22:41):
Yeah.
So, That's a truck a person could own.
it's a pavement princess.
Clinton (22:50):
- I think it's sweet.
I, for the record- N- no … I think that truck is sweet.
Adam (22:53):
No.
No.
Th- that's the type of truck that gets you laughed out of the state of Montana.
Like, what is that thing?
It's a little Montana.
Like, I don't understand at all.
Like, and then not only that, but then they keep saying he built it.
He did not build the freaking truck.
The truck was built in Detroit.
He assembled parts onto the truck.
If you wanna build a car, do something like my dad did when he was a
(23:13):
teenager, pull a Model T out of the riverbank and build a [bleep] car.
That's a, you assembled a, a truck.
It's like all the Jeep guys who, like, have their Wranglers and
they're like, "Ooh, I built my Jeep."
The [bleep] you did.
You went and bought the fricking Jeep and then bolted some crap on.
Whoop-de-fricking-doo.
Thirdly, about the pavement princess truck, and I just, I
can't stand this thing, all right?
(23:35):
Like, I literally can't.
look, Derick Hall, you ever wanna go in the woods?
Let's go take a drive in the woods and we'll see who goes further, because
I promise you, I will run [bleep] circles around you in my Jeep Cherokee.
What a joke of a thing.
I can't stand it.
It's all glitz and glamour.
It doesn't do one thing well.
It- I don't like it
… Clinton (23:53):
it's not meant to do anything well except for
look fricking awesome, Adam.
And if you don't think it does- It's shiny … and if you don't think it
does, that's, that's your prerogative.
Adam (24:01):
Yeah.
Clinton (24:02):
However, for a dude that has wanted a, a pickup truck since,
you know, squinting and watching Marty McFly, what was that, a Toyota, like, RJ?
It,
Adam (24:10):
yeah, it w- it was the first, Toyota pickup.
Like, yeah.
It was right before the Tacoma.
Clinton (24:14):
Yeah, exactly.
So ever since seeing that and wanting a pickup, and I still haven't had one, I'm
48 years old, what am I doing already?
that truck is fricking awesome.
So we're, we're gonna have to, you know, disagree with each other on that one.
He's not gonna- I
Adam (24:27):
might be, I
Clinton (24:28):
might be in the
Adam (24:28):
minority on this
Clinton (24:29):
one … he's not gonna take it into the woods.
That's not where it's going.
He's picking- Then why, then why
Adam (24:32):
own a goddamn truck?
Clinton (24:34):
Because it's gorgeous.
Like, is he gonna put
Adam (24:35):
some plywood in the
Clinton (24:35):
back?
Because you can.
Because America, baby.
He's gonna get a 24 ounce- All right … vanilla latte, I think that's what he
ordered from that nice lady at that little stand there- Sounded delicious.
Yeah … it was, it did sound really good, actually.
And that's what he's gonna do with that truck and drive
around Seattle with his mods.
Now, I do wanna say- Yeah … if you don't like the, if you don't like the truck,
what do you think about his DH1 Percent?
(24:56):
I kinda like that as a logo.
That's pretty dope.
Pretty good, right?
Adam (24:59):
That's really good.
Right?
That's well done.
And look, I do give him a lot of credit for actually going out there
and turning some wrenches on the thing.
Like, I, I give him a ton of credit for that.
Yeah.
Like, instead of just being like, "Make me one of these."
And, yeah.
Clinton (25:12):
I like, I like that HBO, so kudos again to the editors
and then the, the show makers there for making sure they talked about
Derick Hall's past and, you know- Yeah
being a preemie of, like, whatever it was, b- born so, so pre-born and getting
a chance to, to live a, you know, really at, at that level, getting the chance, and
(25:32):
then making the life that he has of it.
And hey, if he's got a DH1 Percent and that, he's got, and he gives back for,
for that cause- And it's on HBO.
I'm just like, "Cool."
That, that's all…
Those are good, good, cool things.
And the logo and the whole emblem, I thought it was all well done.
So, and he had it on the, he had it on the hubcaps- Yeah … so it
was, like, on the wheels, I guess.
Adam (25:51):
Mm-hmm.
Clinton (25:52):
So I was, at least I was pretty impressed with that stuff.
I, I, like, I'm a marketing guy, so you're gonna get me with that
kind of stuff all the time, Adam.
Adam (25:59):
Oh, yeah, man.
And there wa- there was plenty of marketing things, in this show,
Clinton- Yeah … including the M.O.B.
is good.
Clinton (26:05):
All the time.
Adam (26:07):
All the time, Clinton.
Clinton (26:08):
The M.O.B.
is good.
That's
Adam (26:10):
right.
Clinton (26:10):
Hey, we did not yet…
This was a pretty big storyline.
They ended the episode with it.
It was kind of about two-thirds of the way through, and I was like,
"I know it's hard knocks, and I know this is why people tune in."
I also was like, "I can't believe they're actually discussing
this, and at the way they are."
(26:31):
basically, "Hey, is, is Terrion Arnold getting
signed by us by tomorrow or so?
Because it sure seems that we're quite interested in
bringing that man into Seattle."
Adam (26:42):
Yeah, it does.
it- I thank, I, all right.
If you, I'm thinking about this and why would you show that on Hard Knocks
and allow that to go out and, you know, kind of show the way the sausage is
made from the player personnel side.
And I think for somebody like Terrion Arnold, who has a
lot of serious charges, but-
Clinton (27:03):
Yeah
… Adam (27:04):
also, too, like in terms of serious charges are some of the
more understandable ones I've, heard, like to this point.
Clinton (27:11):
Doesn't mean, doesn't mean you can do it.
It just, it- Exactly.
Adam (27:13):
I'm not
Clinton (27:13):
saying it was
Adam (27:14):
the right choice
Clinton (27:14):
if
Adam (27:14):
he, if he,
Clinton (27:15):
if he did it- If he did do it … and, and we do live in this, an innocent
till proven guilty society, so let's rem- That's right … let's remember that.
Adam (27:20):
That's
Clinton (27:21):
right.
If he did them kidnapping and such, not great.
You, it turns out you can't just kidnap people if you think they stole from you.
but- Right.
Adam (27:29):
What, what I will say is I do think that you release it in Hard
Knocks this way so that it softens the blow with the fan base, because it
shows them taking the time and really considering it and, and talking about,
you know, "Hey, look, we do know what this looks like," and all of that.
So, really interesting.
(27:50):
Yeah.
And I, but I do think it helps.
I think it was good for PR if they do sign him by letting
it go out on Hard Knocks like
Clinton (27:57):
that.
Well, it's, it, we got, we even got Whistle Jacket, who is Lisa, saying,
"I'm so conflicted about Terrion Arnold."
I hear you, and we'll see.
I, there's a, there's a high level of trust with the organization that
they try, they really try to bring in what seems to be good people.
And we haven't talked about Leo yet.
Yeah.
Let's talk about Leo in a second.
but they really do seem to try to bring in high character people.
(28:21):
So they've earned trust in my book at least, that it's like if they make a
decision that, that he's, he is high character, and either it's a really
bad episode and he's gonna somehow not, you know, not face, like, like
criminal consequences, or he just didn't do it, which again, may- maybe,
may- whatever the story is, I have zero idea, so I'm not gonna comment on it.
(28:43):
Mm-hmm.
But if they make that decision, I don't know, it's kind of like trusting
John with the draft right now.
Like, what, what am I g- what am I gonna do?
You know?
It's like I think, I think I would trust that they're, they're bringing
in a good, a good person, hopefully.
Now, I think it was interesting because you say what you just
said about, hey, maybe softening it for the fan base, maybe.
(29:03):
but it was like they did choose something from Schneider when he's
talking, I for- I forget who was in the room with him at the time.
But- Schneider was kinda talking about, well, how do we even position this?
Like, is there, is there even an example we can go back to?
You know, so I, it, it, to me it was kind of like it seemed like
they were showing how they wanna politic it a little bit potentially.
(29:25):
And I'm not even say- I'm not even putting that in a bad shadow,
'cause that's the reality of, of the sensitivity around this.
But I, I, I don't know.
I think it could be a little bit of a, a backlash to be like, "I can't
believe you guys are contemplating this guy," and, and, and kind
of thinking about manipulating how are you gonna present this.
Yeah.
I think it could be interpreted that way if you want it, it to be.
Adam (29:46):
Sure.
it's interesting to see the mixed reactions in the
comments as well, you know?
Like Marlon, "Low risk, good reward."
Clinton (29:53):
Yep.
Adam (29:53):
You know, Dogzilla's like, "Nah, he, he did it."
It's like, okay, maybe.
the, you know, Charlie the, the unicorn, the, you know, locker room risk.
Amy's saying that she just, you know, completely trusts the
process with John, and I get that.
I agree with all of you at the same time.
It…
The, the thing about what happened with Terrion Arnold that night and
(30:14):
the, the charges that came from it, it, there's three way, there's
three categories of things- Mm-hmm
in this world that you know are ha- when you feel like you know something.
Things you believe, things you think you know, and then things you actually know.
Mm-hmm.
And this is in, everything about this so far is in the things I believe.
Like the lowest category of those things, so very much a hard tell
(30:38):
and not knowing sort of thing.
And, you know, Milroe
Clinton (30:45):
did vouch for him.
Right.
Like, there's that, so.
Well, he vouched for him as, as a person, as a character, right?
As the point.
And also-
Adam (30:48):
Yeah
… Clinton (30:48):
Ni- Nick Saban, he, Nick Saban r- literally wrote a character
letter to the courts, in, after the whole incident happened, just
said, "This is a very good human."
Didn't, you know, not commenting on what may or may not have
happened, just as a character witness of this is a good person.
And Nick Saban does not have to go out of his way to do that.
And then it was interesting- Yeah, he doesn't have to
Adam (31:09):
do anything
Clinton (31:10):
Not, exactly.
Except for like, like whatever those other, the VRBO
commercials he does, right?
Yeah,
Adam (31:14):
just make up crazy rules for his VRBO.
That's it.
Clinton (31:16):
That's all Nick's doing.
That's it.
Yeah.
Just, make some, make some more money, dude.
Keep ma- keep getting them checks, Nick.
But it was interesting to hear them specifically, you know, bring up
the Milroe piece and if you, the quote I wrote down, which I gotta
tell you, kinda got me excited.
He, he said, "He's just like Spoon."
Adam (31:33):
Yeah.
Clinton (31:34):
you know, so from a football player standpoint and a
personality standpoint, I'm going to have to suspend the piece of the
criminality, potential criminality, 'cause I don't know about it.
Right.
But from a football standpoint, inside the lines, which is where we watch football-
Adam (31:51):
Mm-hmm
Clinton (31:51):
I want more players like Spoon.
So I kinda like that c- that quote, Adam.
Adam (31:55):
Yeah.
And it's not a domestic violence situation either.
Clinton (31:58):
No.
No, it's not.
All
Adam (31:59):
right, so, you know,
Clinton (32:00):
some of the things- It's not good, though.
W- what's, what he's, what he's charged with is se- is legitima- it's not good.
All right, so let's-
Adam (32:04):
I can't say anything ain't good.
Clinton (32:06):
Dude, it's kidnapping.
I mean, he's charged with kidnapping.
Like, that is bad.
Bad, bad, bad.
Kid-
Adam (32:11):
kids nap all the time.
I don't understand what the problem is.
Like, I really don't.
But hey-
Clinton (32:15):
Look, like, he's charged with something- … like you can't do it
here- … very, very serious … I guess.
I don't know.
Yeah But I can't imagine NFL teams are, are looking at this guy if…
Who was the guy, man?
I'm, I'm not trying to piss on someone's grave.
He's not dead.
But the Raiders guy who went to jail.
He, you know- Oh,
Adam (32:29):
Henry Ruggs?
Clinton (32:29):
Yeah, Henry.
This, you know, so no one's, you know…
it was obvious and, and there he goes.
He goes to jail, and then, dude, hope the guy has some sort of a life.
It sucks that he threw it away.
but clearly it's not that situation, you know?
O- otherwise, otherwise- Yeah … he wouldn't be visiting NFL teams at
this par- this point of his career.
Oh.
Adam (32:48):
I mean, if they're gonna give Deshaun Watson a big old trade and a
giant guaranteed contract, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter how guilty you
are, until you're convicted, man, the, the NFL will give talented guys shots.
Clinton (33:01):
Remember when I mentioned 27 other teams would be
jealous of what they're seeing?
The Browns, Adam, are at the very, very…
They have, let's put it this way- Yeah … the delta of jealousy is at the
highest it could be with- Yeah … the Cleveland Browns organization because
somehow, some way, Deshaun Watson- Deshaun
is still freaking there.
All right.
I think I've got, I've got one more thing.
(33:21):
I, I got
Adam (33:21):
two more things.
Two more things.
Clinton (33:22):
You got two more?
Okay.
Why don't you go with yours and we'll see if it's mine.
Adam (33:25):
All right.
Well, the biggest one, like, we, we keep joking about the MOB is good, right?
And, like, the whole presentation.
Like, we haven't talked about-
Clinton (33:32):
The whole time
… Adam (33:32):
you know, that whole moment.
And what a cool thing by Mike to get the assistant, or position
coaches involved- Yeah … and let them have their spiel, right?
And how creative was that, number one?
It's great.
Like, it was great.
It was hilarious, you know?
Like, Mike in the robes, you know, and then he brought forth- Yes
you know, the whatever
Clinton (33:49):
those- As Moses, right?
Adam (33:50):
Yeah, exactly.
Clinton (33:51):
Is that, that'd be Moses, yeah, with the tablets, yeah.
Adam (33:53):
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
so it, it was well done.
It was super funny.
C- Cla- C- Classities or whatever- Yes, yes … he retitled that, was hilarious.
really cool.
I do have one major concern, though.
I think we might be boned for this year because we just committed
blasphemy, and I'm very worried.
Clinton (34:12):
I, I, I know you very personally, and I know that you're very serious with
that, with that, with that, comment.
Very serious.
Yeah.
but it was, it was a lot of fun.
It was a ton of fun to watch.
And I love the idea, like you're bringing up, that Mike gives room for that-
Adam (34:27):
You
Clinton (34:27):
know, and, and I don't, and I don't get the sense that Mike, is like
proofreading slides before they go live.
Yeah.
I think it's more like, "Hey, you wanna do something?
I trust you, and if it falls flat in the room, well, then you're gonna
have to answer to that as a coach."
Yeah.
And if it hits, well, then maybe we got something, right?
So, okay.
So the last thing I wanted to bring up, and then if you got- Yeah … if, if
(34:49):
it's not yours, then, then please do.
the warrior in the garden aspect, all cool.
Sure.
Good stuff.
But, I love watching moment of zen Leo Williams.
And again, it's a, it's an advertisement for the PNW.
we get all that.
But I also…
We have Leo, who's coming up on…
who's gonna be coming up on his last year, so the, the prospects of extending him.
(35:13):
So hearing his wife talk about, you know, he contemplated retirement when he was
in the craziness of the East Coast in New York, and now just being in this, let's,
the environment he's in, the totality of the environment he now finds himself
in, the family finds themselves in.
To me, that doesn't point to somebody that is, like, burnt out and, like,
(35:36):
needs to retire versus someone who is still, like, energized and
wants to get the most out of it.
Now, I'm projecting.
I don't know these to be facts.
If we go out and win a chip again, he might be like, "Dude,
two in a row, like, great."
I got fish
Adam (35:50):
to spear.
Clinton (35:51):
Right, right.
You know?
Yeah.
And, and, and, you know, botany to go keep learning.
But he…
I don't get the sense that that dude is, like, at the
end of any sort of rope, Adam.
Adam (36:01):
Yeah.
There's a peacefulness to, his life, his mentality, everything- Yeah … that
really does just jump off the screen.
And they did make it a point, you know, when they were talking with him and
his wife about their time in New York, and him saying that, you know, the…
And I had a hard time relating to this because he's like, "Oh, the hustle
and the bustle of New York, like that was burning out my nervous system."
(36:21):
I was like, "Yes.
Yes that."
Yeah.
Like I get that.
He's like, "But now I'm here in Seattle and like I- I'm totally chill and zen."
I'm like, dude, Seattle burns out my nervous system.
Like I, I get- Well, you know,
Clinton (36:30):
you're, you're on a different level of zen than I think, a different
plane than Leo might be, right?
So.
Adam (36:34):
Def- definitely not zen, but definitely- … a different level
of hermit, like that's for sure.
so, but it does seem that the vibe of the city, the vibe of the West Coast…
I mean, he's West Coast man, right?
Yeah.
Like- USC, right … through and through.
Yeah.
Like he just has that aura around him.
Pretty cool.
The other thing with him growing the plants that he grows, if you
haven't checked it out on his YouTube channel, it's impressive.
Clinton (36:56):
Yeah, it's great.
Adam (36:57):
so if Leo Williams does happen to hear this, which
he won't, but l- if he did-
Clinton (37:01):
He will
… Adam (37:01):
- He
Clinton (37:02):
definitely will
… Adam (37:02):
send help.
I need help.
Like we're, our gardening stuff is, is a struggle.
I, I need Leo Williams, I need him tomorrow.
Like I, 'cause we're, we're struggling.
Clinton (37:11):
Well, the good news is he's clearly a fan.
He'll hear it.
We- we're putting up the bat signal or the, the botany signal.
He'll…
What would the botany signal look like?
Now it's gotta involve Leo- Yeah … but it also needs a plant.
I'm not gonna, you know,-
Adam (37:23):
Yeah
… Clinton (37:23):
we're not gonna fix that right now, but we'll put
that into put that out there if somebody wants to think about that.
It's a
Adam (37:27):
tree silhouette.
You don't have to overthink this.
This
Clinton (37:30):
is easy.
No, no.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah, but I want a little bit of Leo in there too.
Like, can we get the Leo pump and it's a tree somehow?
Like could an evergreen also be this?
I think so.
Adam (37:39):
Yeah.
Clinton (37:40):
Right?
Yeah.
I think you're onto something.
'Cause it's forming- Yeah
this is forming the, the bottoms of the evergreen, yeah?
Adam (37:43):
Derick Hall better look out.
Clinton's starting to workshop- Oh … a better logo for Leo here.
Oh, [bleep].
Yeah.
Clinton (37:47):
I did it.
I did it.
Yeah.
Well, that was my last.
You said you had two.
Yeah.
Was that the one- Yeah … or you got one more?
Adam (37:52):
One more, and this is the even worry stuff.
And-
Clinton (37:55):
Oh, yes.
I forgot.
Yeah
… Adam (37:56):
you know, we started out last episode, he's on a scooter, you know-
Mm-hmm … talking to Coach Mike.
Then the next time we see him in this episode, you know, he's
walking around on a cane, you know?
Little cane and boot.
Yeah.
Clinton (38:07):
Little cane and boot.
Yep.
Yep.
Adam (38:07):
Yeah.
He's pimp strutting with his cane- Beautiful
i- in the boot.
and then in the pool and walking around, and in the last shot
he's in a mini boot and no cane.
Clinton (38:17):
Mm-hmm.
Adam (38:17):
Like, so you're seeing this progression really quickly over
the course of a couple weeks, and I think that- You know, non-update
update, makes me feel better about where things are going for Nick.
Clinton (38:29):
For sure.
So i- and that's, hey, if you're watching the show in a vacuum, correct.
Then we get the add-on layer that as of today he passes physical,
and now he can start- Ooh … Oh yeah, he passed his physical today.
He can begin practice.
You know how, you know how…
And they're still saying, hey, not a guarantee for week one, but, but the,
the entire time, the en- my understanding is the entire time from his surgery
(38:53):
on was, hey, if you do it now, you have a good shot to play week one.
So they did it with, with the, with the notion, but that's with a healthy
rehab and things going basically right.
So knock on all the woods, so far so good.
It's not a guarantee he'll be ready for the Patriots game, because we gotta
play on a Wednesday, Adam, because we won the Super Bowl, and they're giving
(39:13):
us the first home game this year, and it's a Wednesday because those stupid
Rams who didn't win the Super Bowl have gotta go all the way to Australia
to play a game on Thursday, which is actually Friday in, in Australia.
But we get to s- play a home game, Adam, on a Wednesday.
So we lose one extra day to get Evan Warrey ready.
I don't think that'll matter.
Hmm.
But he passes his physical today, and, you know, knowing him as a y- as a
(39:37):
young dude, athletes heal pretty quick.
And, you know, he's gonna give every single effort he possibly
can to be ready for the Patriots.
And you know what?
If he's not, and it's week two or it's week three I think it's okay,
'cause I think we go Patriots, Cardinals, then somebody else
that's not that great, I wanna say.
I'll, I'll look it up.
(39:58):
But, but yeah.
But so I'm glad it gave you some, the good feelings to see him
progressing even in one episode.
Adam (40:05):
Yeah.
And so those were just kinda good vibes there, no doubt about it, and, you know,
a fun, a fun episode all the way around.
And it does make it easy to be a fan and proud of this football
team, you know- Yeah … beyond the championship and all of that.
yeah, pretty cool, man.
Cool stuff.
Clinton (40:25):
It was a ton of fun.
Yeah, we, we do go Patriots week one, Cardinals week two- Yeah … Commanders,
the Tunsil-less Commanders, week three.
Adam (40:34):
Yeah.
Clinton (40:34):
So, hey, if even Mario joins us, back at any of
those games, I think we'll be A-OK.
I am so excited that we have well over 150 people joining
us live- Yeah … right now.
So please hit the like, hit those subscribes.
When it goes, when this is done being live, drop your comments back
in the episode, 'cause that drives the algorithm bananas in a good way.
(40:56):
And if you wanna go to getintheflock.com,
become a member of the flock, join the Discord, do that as well.
Adam, we're gonna have a big week this week.
I think we have Josh Height tomorrow, who was at the, at the scrimmage, so
he's gonna be on with us tomorrow night.
And then Saturday, Adam, we get real Seahawks football.
Seahawks versus Cowboys, week one of the preseason.
(41:19):
I'm excited for it.
Adam (41:20):
I'm excited for it.
I wanted to know, did you wanna touch on, you know, some of the news from
around the division before we got off?
You had mentioned that today.
Clinton (41:26):
Oh, sure.
We can…
Wait, let, let's fir- let's- Okay.
Well then,
Adam (41:29):
like, yeah, let's do that then, 'cause,-
Clinton (41:30):
Wait, let's, let's first address this.
We got…
We, let's- Yeah, yeah, yeah … we got Merc, MercBlue0.
Yeah.
"These guys are amateurs."
Hey.
Yeah.
Hey, Merc, you're right
Adam (41:39):
Yeah, I mean, kinda right I mean- Semipro at the very least.
But if we- Yeah
really wanna talk about amateurs, let's talk about the Santa Clara Substations.
Clinton (41:45):
Yeah.
Let's do that first.
Let's t- Yeah … let's talk about the Substation.
so look, the news today, if you didn't catch it yet, was that Bosa,
i- on his knee that he had surgery on, is not, he's now got tendonitis on
that knee, and now it's not, hey, day to day, or he'll be back in a week.
They're putting already Nick Bosa at week to week, Adam, which,
(42:08):
that ain't good early, dude.
Adam (42:11):
No.
It, that's not the only one, right?
I mean, Mike Evans has been hurting and missing practice.
I saw a report today that Christian McCaffrey has
missed two practices in a row.
Yes.
Yeah.
And, you know, Mike Shanahan's face is still, like, you know, healing.
And so there's all of that as well.
and not only that, but the Bosa stuff, it's not just the
(42:32):
leg, it's the back apparently.
And so, like- Yeah … we, and you know, we all know the leg bone's
connected to the back bone and all
Clinton (42:38):
that stuff.
Correct.
That's where I was going too.
But- I held it back … yeah … I was like, "He's still talking.
He's still talking.
Let the man talk."
Yeah.
Adam (42:42):
Yeah.
so at the end of the day, you know, it doesn't look good for
a guy who's consistently injured, a team that's consistently injured,
and I think I saw the other day 20% of the roster didn't practice.
Like- It was like- You know
… Clinton (42:57):
yeah, out of 90 there was like tw- 20 out of s- 90
something was down, right?
So it was something like that.
20 something percent was already dinged up in the, in the pre-season,
which is hefty, hefty, hefty.
it's just, I, I don't know what…
Look, the Substation, I know it's a joke, I know it's a running thing.
At some point, you know, they got Greg Cohen out there being
(43:18):
like, "At some point, should we actually just move this damn thing?"
Even if it's just, you know, just in their heads, Adam.
Adam (43:26):
It's so hilarious.
Like, this is the hubris of the NFL, like, it, that just kinda pops out here.
They're like, "We'll just move the substation."
It's like- Move the substation … or, or I don't know, maybe, maybe move practice.
Like- Move
Clinton (43:37):
the substation?
Yeah, let's move- You
Adam (43:39):
know how hard that is to do?
Clinton (43:40):
Let- Yeah … let's move, let's move, you know, all that
capital and critical infrastructure versus a 100-yard field with a
little bit of space around it.
Adam (43:47):
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, I, 'cause I've heard people say, like, "Well, how come they haven't
done anything about the substation?
How come they haven't taken care of it?"
It's like, what are you talking about?
Like, that's the thing that steps down the voltage so all y'all have power out there.
Clinton (43:58):
I would hope they just mean, you know, move the field elsewhere,
but by taking care of it, it's because, yeah, you're not moving-
Adam (44:03):
Oh, no,
Clinton (44:04):
people
Adam (44:04):
are talking about it like, you know, you still need the practice
facility next to the, you know, the Seahawks', south stadium, Lumen South.
Clinton (44:10):
Yeah.
Adam (44:10):
Yeah, yeah.
but so the, the substation's the thing that has to go, you know?
Clinton (44:14):
Oh, my goodness.
Well, people are dumb-dumbs.
Mem- remember, 50% of the people are, under average.
Adam (44:20):
That's true.
but it's more like 80, but don't worry about it.
The math, little math there, don't make no never mind.
So- I mean, I probably one of them, but yeah
Clinton (44:26):
yep, so that was, that was some of the news.
Back on our side, since we're covering news, we talked about Eden Verrett,
passing his, passing his physical.
Very unfortunately, Robbie Ouzts, our, our second year fullback, he goes on IR.
He's out for the entire year.
I just talked about this on the last episode with Brandan, and
we went through I was just going through just, just the, the size
(44:49):
and athleticism of, of him as…
You, I was- Yeah … I was on with you.
No, it was me and you.
Brandan was like on vacation.
Oh, it was all of us, wasn't it?
Yeah.
I forget.
Or, I don't know.
But we were talking about Robbie Ouzts- Our Tom … and we talk about, you
know, we talk about the, the potential replacements with Lampy, and of course
Brady Russell still being there.
Look, he's out for the year.
It's terrible.
We hope he gets healthy, A1, and could come back and play football.
(45:11):
I actually look at this as a pretty big loss in a offense that is,
that Fleury wants to run, because I think, I think Ouzts was a pretty
special talent athletically, and I don't think we have that type of
dude on the roster at this point.
I, I don't know how you feel.
Adam (45:26):
I guess I look at it like this, is that last year Ouzts
was, when he was healthy, used about 25% of the offensive snaps.
So-
Clinton (45:36):
Which was pretty…
W- which I remember, I remember investigating that live with you,
and it was like, "Oh, it's actually a little more than we thought it was."
Adam (45:44):
Yeah, yeah.
I, I would've guessed it was like 10 or 15%, right?
Yeah.
But yeah, so 25%, that's a little bit more than it was.
Is it a blow?
Yes.
Is this like, having your star wide receiver get hurt and have legal issues?
Is this like having your left tackle, likely suspended for six games
throughout the season and- Hmm.
(46:05):
- … you know, that sort of thing?
No.
This is your fullback who…
Look, I don't know how much we were gonna run 22 or 21 or how much we still will.
Clinton (46:14):
Right.
Adam (46:14):
but I do feel like there's a universe that Fleury figures it out.
And also too, the demand for fullback isn't that- that high out there around
the league, so there's gotta be more dudes too, like out there that…
Because John does this all the time, like brings in some guy
and you're like, "Who and why?"
And you're like- Yeah … five weeks in, "I love this dude."
(46:36):
You know?
Clinton (46:36):
Well, and on screen here by Charlie the Unicorn, he's saying,
you know, "Lampy is underrated."
And he says, "Watch him flourish."
Like, hey, Charlie, I hope so.
Yeah, there it is.
Like, I don't know.
I mean, look, we just picked him up, and I know he's got lineage
to Coach Hammock and all that.
He, he looks the part.
But really, he l- he's the same exact size as Br- literally almost
same exact size as Brady Russell.
(46:57):
So again, you're not replacing the body and the ath- athlete that
Ouzts was, but may- It's about the
Adam (47:02):
size of the dog, Clinton
Clinton (47:03):
that's exactly right.
Because Lamp- Yeah … Lampy is also a fullback by trade.
He was not a convert, so maybe he will be very good.
We'll see.
I just wonder- We talked last time about will this, you know,
will there be enough footballs to go around to the pass catchers?
Because there are a lot of mouths to feed.
I will say this, if there's less Ouzts and you have less, less 21,
(47:26):
and just purely less fullback on the field period, well, you know, you're
probably in situations where you're, you're throwing the ball a little
bit more than you were yesterday.
And I'm not sure how that makes you feel, but it could even be, you know,
pass- passes to, to running backs too.
But it's a little bit l- it's a little bit less of a power team with Ouzts out,
(47:48):
and we'll see how it gets replaced.
Look, he was out for chunks, he was out for chunks last year, and, you
know, late in the season and early this season, and we made, we made our way.
But I really liked what he looked like when he came back from injury, and
I was, I'm super sad that he won't get a chance to progress in year two.
Adam (48:06):
Well, the real sad part about it is, is that I think for the NFL
as a whole, the hardest thing for me to watch as a fan is a guy to have
talent to do something, show the talent, and then the body says no.
and look man, when you start talking about next and out for
the year- Yeah … and this is the second go-round and all that, like, I
(48:27):
start thinking about Cam, like- Yeah
all of that stuff, right?
And it's, it's tough.
- Yeah … but we'll see how it goes for Ouzts.
Now, you did mention, like, no fullback, less power, right?
Clinton (48:39):
Potentially.
Adam (48:39):
Potentially, right … disagree.
Yeah, I, 'cause there's a lot of ways to get to power football.
Lot of ways.
I mean, you can be, you can have two tight ends out there, you know,
run a lot of more duo stuff and get it right down their throat.
Like, there's a lot of ways to get after that, and bring guys in
insert motion or whatever it is.
And you can still create a lot of that without a fullback.
(49:00):
And look, with Sean McVay inventing 13 personnel last year- … we can always
put three tight ends out there too.
So that's-
Clinton (49:06):
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure we're allowed to.
I thought that was only for McVay because he invented it just last year,
'cause he's such- Right … a genius.
Yeah.
Adam, he's such a genius- Mm-hmm … that in the NFC Championship game, at the end
of the third quarter it was 31-27 Seattle.
Yeah.
And do you know what the score was at the end of the fourth quarter, Adam?
Adam (49:23):
not that, i- 'cause that was a big old L.
Clinton (49:27):
Right.
It w- well, it was 31-27 Seattle at the end of the third quarter.
Yeah.
End of the fourth quarter it was 31-27 Seattle.
They scored z- Yeah … believe it or not, the Rams, who already won
the Super Bowl this year, they scored zero points in the entire fourth
quarter last year- Yeah, that's right
with the, with the genius, the genius and the MVP, and they mustered zero
points in an entire quarter of football.
(49:49):
But that's- Mm-hmm … probably, probably not important
going into the year where we- Hey,
Adam (49:53):
but his call sheet knows who's boss, because he screamed at that so close.
He was, yeah.
I mean, it had to make it be itself.
Clinton (49:58):
Yeah, he definitely screamed at it the way that-
Yeah … Macdonald screamed at Hall at the beginning of this episode.
Adam, I think we did a great job here.
And if I were to say to you the MOB is good-
Adam (50:09):
All the time, brother
Clinton (50:10):
All the time.
The MOB is good.
And I think with that-
Adam (50:13):
There's only one thing left to say
Clinton (50:14):
Go Hawks.
Adam (50:15):
Go Hawks.
