The Seattle Seahawks' initial 53-man roster is set, and we went live to talk about the biggest surprises and areas where there is still some concern going into the season. The Seahawks kept a surprising number of offensive linemen. But in the past when we had a surprising lack of depth at guard, we are now to the point where guys seemingly beat the odds to make the team. The running back room may be a concern until Zach Charbonnet gets back, but that's mainly because we haven't seen much from the guys throughout the preseason (by design). A fan favorite from Hard Knocks made the initial 53, and John Schneider made a trade to help with cornerback depth. Other big news in the NFL today was the signing of Aaron Donald. But did anyone expect that he'd command $20 million? We compare the situation to the last time the Seahawks signed a future Hall of Famer who was seemingly content to stay retired. Plus a ton of great questions straight from the flock as we look ahead to a tailgate and the regular season opener against the Patriots.

Brandan (00:09):
Hello, and welcome to the Sea Hawkers Podcast.
I'm your host, Brandan Schulze, andI am joined by my good buddy Adam
Emmert as we have some news today withthe Seahawks roster being finalized
kind of, but maybe not really, Adam.

Adam (00:25):
Yeah, it always changes a little bit, but, you know
we're at the 70 now, as John likesto talk about it and the whole-

Brandan (00:32):
53.

Adam (00:33):
No, no.
He, he talks about it, he even saidit in his press conference- Oh, the

Brandan (00:36):
s- okay 'cause the ready squad.
Okay

… Adam (00:38):
that's right.
He's like, "We don't liketalking about our 53.
It's our 70."
And, we have an idea ofwhere practice squad things might
go here in the next day or so.
They can't really getinto that till tomorrow.
But, you know, some interestingdecisions made here when there
was a good number of guys that youmight look at and say on the bubble.
And it's gonna be interesting to seeif this is, you know, more or less what

(01:02):
sticks for the remainder of the season orif it changes a little bit more from here.

Brandan (01:07):
You guys, Dad Golf in chat saying, "Ready squad assemble."
I think that's gonna be the main thingover the next couple days of
of what happens with the-… quoteunquote ready squad, practice squad.
Mo Barclay say on the ready or not squad.
Like

Adam (01:22):
that, yeah.

Brandan (01:23):
a lot of folks…
I, I think there is some areas wherethere might be some shock, and I think
that one of the things that I think wecan do is dispel some of the reasons
why you should or should be not, shocked by, some of the moves
that they decided to go with today.
Because, you know, I, I think wheremost of the shock comes for folks is some

(01:47):
of the, the more seasoned veterans thatdidn't make that initial 53-man roster.
And I- we kind of hinted at it a littlebit leading up to this 53 roster cut
day of, you know, pointing out, okay, these are guys who are vested veterans.
They could stick around.
And, and I feel like a lot of those guysthat ended up being on that cut list

(02:13):
are guys who are also vested veterans, which means they can stick around.
And then let…
The, the risk of cutting a veteran playerlike, Trevon Diggs- Would be that
another team could come along and say,"We're gonna guarantee your contract for
the full season," and that might be, youknow, for a, for a veteran player that

(02:33):
might, be a better deal than, youknow, being added to a practice squad and
sticking around and, 'cause you're goingto make less guaranteed money that way.

Adam (02:43):
Sure.
And money's a giant motivator fora lot of dudes, no doubt about it.
Look, Trevon Diggs has madesome money in his career.
Like, he got paid with theCowboys, no doubt about it.
And at this point in your career, maybe it makes more sense to you as
a veteran player who's trying to getyour career back on track to be like
"Yeah, somebody could guarantee me thewhole year, but I know my play's gonna

(03:06):
get me on the 53 here at some point."
And it's basically what Johnsaid in his presser here just
in the last hour or so.
And, just being in a good systemwith a good coach to put some good
film out there, that's a great wayto kinda resurrect your career and
make even more money than maybe thatguaranteed vet minimum for a year.

Brandan (03:27):
We've got Ryan911 in the chat joining us with a 999 super chat
live executive producer saying, "TheOGs, excited about the initial 53.
Real football is just days away.
Go Hawks."
That's, that's the most exciting partabout this, is this, this now feels
like that point to where you go,"Okay, pre-season is now behind us.

(03:49):
Now it's the regular season.
We have the guys that we're gonnaroll with," and yeah, it, it's gonna
shift and change a little bit, but, really the, not a lot of guys…
W- when I look at this list, I think thebiggest news for me is there's, like, one
guy who is on injured reserve, and it's aguy who was injured even before pre-season

(04:10):
was started, and that's Zach Charbonnet.
So the fact that we made it throughwith a lot of the guys that we were
planning to have here, not alot of guys lost in the pre-season.
Big part of that is that MikeMacdonald didn't play anybody, that
would, would've been the starting 22pretty much during the pre-season.

Adam (04:29):
No, he definitely didn't, and they put Zach on the, the PUP list
the physically una- unable to performlist, and makes sense, I mean, coming
back from the ACL, so we won't see himtill at least, what is that, week four?
Is that-

Brandan (04:40):
they're out, yeah, for at least the first four weeks.

Adam (04:43):
Right.
And then on injured re- reserve they didhave Irv Charles, the special teamer.
And- Right… that's somebodythat, again, John spoke about in his
presser in just how big of a deal hethinks it is to have, somebody
like Irv Charles who can come back.
And the way that John describedhim is, like, elite monster

(05:03):
on special teams as a gunner

Brandan (05:06):
Well, you know, you need those gunners.
Rick Darcy in chat, "To JohnSchneider can do anything he wants."
You're more like that.
I had to laugh that we drafted cornerbackAndre Fuller from Toledo, who he
cut, but we sent a six rounder to theChargers for his Toledo cornerback
partner, Avery Smith, who went undrafted.

Adam (05:25):
Right.
Hey, look, you, especially theseguys at the end of the draft
undrafted guys, you know, a lotof them are lotto tickets, right?
And so if you liked some of the thingsabout Fuller, let's say if you're John
Schneider, just with maybe somemeasurables or maybe an interview or
whatever it was, and maybe the playon the field didn't quite pop as much
as you thought, and then you hear Johntalk about what, Avery was able to

(05:50):
do in San Die- San Diego, Los Angeles.
and just what a great pre-seasonhe had and the fact that that gave
him a little bit of experience inthe scheme, made it so that they felt
like that that was gonna be a bettermove for them, at least initially.
And honestly, with the track record of,you know, first Pete and John, and now

(06:11):
John and, and Mike, like, I feel likewe're gonna be talking about, you know
second contract Avery Smith in about threeyears, as a, you know, top 15 quarter
in the league or something like that.
Or at least a solid starter and…
'Cause these are the guys they find.
These are the guys.

Brandan (06:29):
They always seem to.
And Marlon in chat saying, "Oots,Richmond, Clark," those, those
are the three big injuries, right,to, to come from this pre-season.
And, and that's why I ma- tried tomade the, make the clarification of
the, the starting 22, which maybeyou could make the argument for Oots
being the, the lead fullback.
But, if you were the Chargers and JohnSchneider calls you about a cornerback

(06:56):
don't you, don't you pick up the phoneand then reconsider that, oh, maybe…
'Cause it's not like the Chargersare, like, this great, depth team.
Oh, yeah, Bobo.
also outside the starting 22.
But, yes, w- I, while we'reannouncing all of the people who got
injured, we can't leave out Bobo.
it's not like the Chargers havethis wealth of depth at corner.

(07:17):
And so if John Schneider makes thatcall, Adam, aren't you like, "Well
may- maybe we should keep this dude"?

Adam (07:23):
You never know.
You never know.
so kinda going throughthis, what, what was the biggest
surprise for you, either on dudeswho made it or guys that did-

Brandan (07:35):
The biggest sur- probably that we kept 10 offensive linemen.
I thought that because they ended upkeeping more on offense than on defense.
They kept 26 on offense, and so as someof the names of people who were being kept
started to roll in, like they're keepingSauer, they're keeping Kallerup

(07:57):
they're, they're keeping Bryce Cabeldue, you know, a lot of these guys kind of on
the tight end and offensive line bubbles.
I'm thinking well, w- I, Iwas starting to worry that there
was something coming that, would be unexpected on offense.
But it, it turned out that it justwas that they kept 26 on offense

(08:18):
and then only 24 on defense.
So I, I guess the biggest thingfor me was so many linemen

Adam (08:25):
Interesting.
It's fu- my biggest surprise goes tooffensive line too, because I think if you
asked any 12 going into the training campand preseason what the odds were that
Christian Haynes would be able to playhimself into sticking onto this roster
this year, I bet you everybody wouldsay, like, a 10% chance or less, right?

(08:49):
Right.
And I would've absolutelybeen in that camp.
So for Christian Haynes to come outand perform as he did throughout
the preseason with some really nicereps, throughout the preseason
that was, that was a shock to me.
That, it, it's literally ashock to me that he's on the
roster now because of that.

Brandan (09:07):
Well, he showed his versatility throughout the preseason.
They had him at right guard.
They had him at left guard.
He, he played full games where he waspulling double duty, and, and, and
he had some good plays in there too.
And then when Bo Stevens, when yougot to see some of, his reps
highlighted against Chris Jones in thefinal preseason game, I, I know we
the breakdown was going around of, of some of his pancake he tried

(09:33):
to take Chris Jones to the ground, in that game against the Chiefs.
those are, those arepretty fun, reps by him.
And yeah, when you…
So Haynes, I guess the fact thatCabeldue ended up making it there
shows that they, they wanna make surethat they have plenty of depth

(09:54):
on that offensive line, and I, now Ifeel like we're super deep at guard.

Adam (09:59):
Yeah, it does help to have that extra depth there, and I think one
of the things that it points to is justthe way that the league is evolving in
keeping four tight ends and only fivereceivers and then 10 offensive linemen.
Like, all of that speaks to acertain style of football, of big
physical, jelly it right down yourthroat, and I'm here for it, man.

(10:20):
I, I love it.
And it, I think that's a, aninteresting development in the way that
rosters are being managed these daysbecause, you know, just even, what?
Eight, 10 years ago, most teams werekeeping six wide receivers all the
time because you're in four wides allthe time and spreading them out and
doing the college rinky-dink stuff.

Brandan (10:40):
Yeah.
KNTSTP saying, "Imagine having thisconvo about the O-line three years ago."
Yeah

Adam (10:46):
right.

Brandan (10:48):
it, it is, it is a little bit surprising.
on the running back side, so Jadarian Price, Brady Russell, George Holani
Emmanuel Wilson, the four running backs.
I think some people may have beensurprised at, Jac- Jacardia Wright
being cut considering how much play, but I, I think they were just trying

(11:09):
to showcase him as much as possible.
Velus Jones Jr.'s one of those vestedveteran guys that I think they would
try to keep around, and so j- havingJacardia out there as much as they did
against the Chiefs was kind of a way f-to showcase him to, around the league
and give him opportunity just to say, youknow, for other teams to go, "Eh, maybe
we need a running back," and, and hecould be a guy based on his performance.

(11:32):
But he, while we, we got to see theone touchdown from him the week before
there, there weren't any real breakoutplays from him against the Chiefs.

Adam (11:40):
Not a lot of breakout holes to run through either-
No… to be fair to Jacardia.
But yeah, maybe a surprise thatyou don't keep another back there
especially if you're gonna beplaying pound the rock type football.
And with the amount of attrition thathappens, in the running back room.
But again, you're kinda lookingat the four backs there, and
it's, it's kind of five, right?

(12:01):
Because at the end of the day, orthe three running backs there
it's kind of four because, you know, that Charbonnet is coming back.

Brandan (12:09):
Yeah, exactly.
Marlon85 in chat saying,"Clinton must be happy about Foster."
I think we should allbe happy about Foster.
I mean, he was kind of the, the storythrough hard knocks and, y- with…
It's kind of a bummer because Ithink Bobo getting injured was his
avenue to then making this team.

(12:30):
But, a- and the other part of thattoo, which was, with Cody White
that was another part that surprisedme a little bit because I felt like in
the week leading up to it, Cody Whitewasn't on the vested veteran list.
But then when they announced thecuts, Cody White was on the list
of the guys who were the vestedveterans, so that's why it made sense

(12:52):
to where, he's not gonna get…
I, I think if White were subject towaiver claims, you, you probably would've
seen White make the roster inste- overFoster, but because he is a veteran
they can add him, you know, they cansay, "Hey, you're not necessarily
going anywhere," unless somebodygives him a guaranteed deal, right?

(13:12):
But, yeah.
Right Keeping Foster and thenhopefully White then able to
be part of that ready squad.

Adam (13:19):
Yeah, it feels like Cody White would be one of the people
to go to the ready squad here.
And then of some of the veterans, obviously they talk about Diggs going
to the ready squad, so we know that.

Brandan (13:28):
The Anthony Bell, the other one, was w- another one of those vet- vested
veteran guys that probably sticks around.

Adam (13:34):
Yep, that

Brandan (13:34):
feels right.
But not on the, on, not on the 53.

Adam (13:37):
Right.
It, that feels correct to me.
you know, Mr.
Iggy, he's gonna be, a guy thatI would think they could sneak into
that, ready squad position there.
Velus Jones Jr., I mean, whatever.
I, I couldn't care less.
It, it'll be interesting- He

Brandan (13:53):
he- He's a depth piece on special teams that you, you may
wanna keep around for his, Sure.
Yeah.
Darcy in chat saying,"What about the safeties?"
It, was it surprising at all to you?
Because the, the fact that they didonly go with 23 or 24 on defense
they ended up, I think, being a littlelight at the safety spot, 'cause you

(14:13):
have Julian Love, you have Ty Okada, and then you have Nick Emmanwori.
While Emmanwori has suited up to practicenow, do you look at that as them
being hopeful that Emmanwori is thengoing to be ready to go week one?
or, against the Patriots?
Or are you feeling like they're,they're gonna have to make some

(14:33):
switch there to have some safetydepth going into week one?

Adam (14:37):
Yeah, I think, you know, with Bell, with my prediction of
being part of the 70 and on theready squad, I think that that gives
you, obviously, then your fourth.
And then I'd be almost surprisedtoo if Rodney Thomas doesn't
end up there depending on whatthey've seen out of him throughout
practice and that sort of thing.
And then that would give you theflexibility if, you know, injuries
do kind of come around, or you feellike you need to elevate a guy for

(14:59):
a particular week and you're feelingthin at safety, then you could do that.
So that, that'd be my guess asto how they're gonna manage it.
But I mean- It's Josh Snyder.
Like, good luck.

Brandan (15:11):
Looking at the depth on defense.
So we, I, I mentioned thethree safeties that we kept.
let- let's go kind of theback of the defense to the front.
corners, they kept five.
Devon Witherspoon, Josh Jobe, JulianNeal, Nehemiah Pritchett, and then the
the corner that they traded for fromToledo that rounds out the five at corner.

Adam (15:31):
Yep, and I mean, that seems like it could be a decent
room when it's all said and done.
I mean, obviously it'stop-heavy at this point.
But I liked what we saw out of Pritchett, especially in preseason Game 3.
you know, John talking about JulianNeal and that, being like, "Hey, you know
we didn't really see much out of him," andhe's like, "Dude, he's like 6'2" and fast

(15:54):
and has ball skills," and that's cool.
So I, I'm not surprised that theyended up keeping him, and there
there's still a path to, for himto see more playing time this year.
And again, I, I'm now squarely in theAvery Smith is probably gonna be like
a s- solid starting level quarterfor this team-… for like two
three years because John, you know?

Brandan (16:15):
Well, they also, I don't know if they necessarily need him to, to
be a guy that goes out there rightaway and, and contributes either.
So, I, I think they have, they, they have some time with him
too, but, they do feel like basedon the trade, based on Diggs staying
around, possibly Igbinoghene, it,it seems like there is a lot of depth

(16:39):
there, and they're just gonna kind ofwait to see who steps r- up from there.
Plus

Adam (16:43):
Terrion Arnold might be back at some point this season as well.

Brandan (16:47):
Yeah, who knows, right?
Because-

Adam (16:48):
That's a lot of hard telling not knowing, for sure.

Brandan (16:51):
I mean, he has to avoid jail first, so there's-

Adam (16:54):
That would be, that'd be sweet, unless I guess he really deserves
to go to jail, which I don't know.
Like, it, it's all allegations at this

Brandan (17:01):
point.
Right.
linebackers, you got Ernest Jones,Drake Thomas, Tyrese Knight, who felt
like the three locks based on thepreseason, and then, Chazz Surratt.
Patrick O'Connell, our, our Kalispellkid made it through, Adam, who generally
we don't see make it, to the 53.
Usually, the, he's a guy that they haveto s- let slip to the practice squad, but

(17:22):
they, they, he was not one they weretaking a chance on this year, apparently.

Adam (17:26):
Yeah, I mean, definitely with, you know, former Flathead
Brave, not Glacier Wolfpack-… Patrick O'Connell, it is pretty
cool to see him on there since he's fromour hometown, and he has really kind of
improved his play each and every year, and I think he's become a, a consistent
performer, a guy that you can lookat and say, "I feel pretty confident

(17:47):
with him as a, solid backer."

Brandan (17:50):
We've got Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed, Byron Murphy, Riley Mills
and then Brandon Peely and Mike Morris, who, guys who I kind of thought were
near the bubble, both made it, made it.
Devin Eastern, though, was cut.

Adam (18:04):
Yeah.
somebody that got touted a lot withthe preseason hype and that sort of thing
when he came in and didn't really flash.
Mike Morris is somebody who has justkind of stuck around and, and is making a
career for himself, and that was kind ofcool to see, 'cause I like the dude.
But, you know, big-bodied guy.
It…
You look down that, you know, defensive line group there, and

(18:28):
there's not a lot of, like, the supertwitchy, just get off the ball guys.
I mean, these are mauling dudes who getin your face and are good against the run.
So, that's something I like to see.

Brandan (18:40):
Michael Knight coming in with a $10 super chat.
Jason Turner saying, "What doyou think about cornerback A.J.
Smith?"
We did talk a little bit about A.J.
Smith- Mm-hmm… off the top, so, but as far as what I've seen
for, I, I haven't watched any A.J.
Smith with the Chargers, but, Yeah, not one snap… I, I know
some people in chat, there were someChargers fans who were surprised

(19:01):
that he was dealt because they, theythought he was gonna make their 53.

Adam (19:06):
That's interesting.
And again, just trustingin John on this sort of thing.

Brandan (19:11):
He, he has a good track record of, of finding corners.
I mean, that's how Josh Jobeended up here, is that he was- Oh

Adam (19:19):
yeah

… Brandan (19:19):
he was an undrafted guy.
The Eagles had him.
They traded a pick, and now they've,you know, given him a contract, so.

Adam (19:27):
Yeah.

Brandan (19:27):
rounding out the defense, though, DeMarcus
Lawrence, Dante Fowler Jr.
Uchenna Nwosu, Derick Hall, Connor O'Toolemaking the list ahead of both Jared
Ivey and Jamie Sheriff, who were cut.

Adam (19:39):
Yeah.
Jamie Sheriff, one of thoseguys that just kind of bounces on
and off this roster 1,000 times.
I'm sure when he got the, thelong three-minute walk, as John
put it in his presser, he'slike, he probably chatted it up.
It probably wasn't that quiet 'cause he'slike, "Yeah, I do this all the time,"
like, "They'll bring me back again."
and maybe they do, at some point.
But edge rusher, you know, basically the same group that

(20:03):
you had last year as a whole.
And honestly, I, I feel likeFowler's a bit of an upgrade
over, you know, current Boye Mafe.
Could Boye Mafe be, like, super awesome in three years?
Maybe.
Hard telling, but I doubt it.
I like this group, and I thinkthey're as deep as they need to be, and
they're gonna be another force this year

Brandan (20:26):
Rick Darcy.
Not, it sounds like not a big fan ofthe Kallerup, decision to keep him
around, which I think that because wesee so little of him in the passing
game, but they, they seem to,they seem to like him, 'cause he stuck
around all last year, and so I wasn'tshocked when I saw Kallerup on the list
of, of keeping four tight ends and, along with Albert, Arroyo, and Barner.

(20:50):
yeah, not, not a lot…
I'm not shocked myself, but, they, they have plans for Nick Kallerup, Adam.

Adam (21:01):
Yeah, they have plans for him to be just a solid dude
that you can insert in there if, you need to because of injury.
And yeah, I mean, I- I'm not exactlylike over the moon that Kallerup
is on the roster by any means.
Not pissed off about it neither.
that's kind of one of thoseroster moves that I look at and I

(21:22):
go, "Yeah, that's what we're doing?
Okay, fine."

Brandan (21:26):
And let's see, we touched on the wide receivers
running backs, and quarterbacks.
Milroe made the, we're, we'rerolling with three quarterbacks again
and I, I don't think we should benecessarily shocked by that based on- No
what we saw from Milroe.

Adam (21:41):
No.
And not only that, but, like, ifyou're gonna make the investment in
Milroe as you did just in the draft, and then now two off-seasons worth
of work, and you see progression inthat work, like, you don't give up
on a developmental QB at this point.
The- there's no real reasonto do that, in my opinion

Brandan (22:04):
We got Paul's Epic Adventure reminding us that, Aaron Donald is
on the Rams this year, Adam, and, asking if the Rams are over the cap space.
Yeah.
I, I mean, I guess not because theyhave to, they have to be under.
They, they're

Adam (22:20):
probably not because of the stupid Browns and the way they
did the Miles Garrett deal there.
It

Brandan (22:24):
was the Miles Garrett deal that, that really, yeah
made that possible for them and-

Adam (22:30):
Helped them out…

Brandan (22:31):
it is surprising though, when I…
I'm surprised they gave him20 million guaranteed for…
And I'm not surprised thatthat's what Aaron Donald
wanted to be able to come back.

Adam (22:42):
Sure.

Brandan (22:43):
But I, I was trying to think after the, that news came down, have
you ever seen a guy take two years awayfrom the league and command what is
essentially at least top 10 money ata position after that long of a break?
It seems unprecedented.

Adam (23:04):
At the age of 35?
Right.

Brandan (23:06):
No.
I

Adam (23:06):
have never seen- Because

Brandan (23:06):
the, the closest thing I could think of was when Marshawn came back.
It was after a, maybe a year, maybe alittle over a year for that playoff run
in 2019, and he signed for a milliondollars, which was, because it was
at the end of the season, it endedup being a cap hit of like 60,000.

(23:28):
Yeah.
And, so for, and, and that was,Marshawn was 33 at the time, not 35.
He was closer to when he hadleft, and I mean, it wasn't…
We didn't get, you know, Marshawn Lynchlike we, we knew and loved Marshawn
at the end of the season either.

Adam (23:46):
No.
And I think that's kind of the biggestquestion mark about the Donald thing
and I'm sure even the most ardent, to Ram fans would tell you the
same thing is that, look, I mean,he is 35 years old, and I don't care
how great of a player you are, like,Father Time catches up to everybody.

(24:09):
And so my big question is, do wesee a version of Aaron Donald that's
closer to, like, Cardinals JJ Watt?
Right?
Like great, great player.
Like, I put JJ Watt as generationalas Aaron Donald in my book.

Brandan (24:23):
Yeah.

Adam (24:23):
and look, I mean, you get older and you're just not that same
type of player, no matter what.
It's just how the, how the body works.

Brandan (24:35):
No name in chat saying- Oh… "We Donald care.
Super Bowl Seahawks."
Yeah, it's…
Well, the thing about Aaron Donald,we're not seeing that Rams team
until Christmas, so it's, it,it's a, it's a little while until
we have to worry about those guys.

Adam (24:51):
Yeah.
big, a lot of big weeks inbetween there and Christmas, right?
And we'll see what trajectoryboth teams are on and all of that.
And I think you look at both oftheir rosters and, you know, this
is still a star-studded roster forthe Seattle Seahawks, even if the
national media won't, you know, give them the credit for that.

(25:14):
Because the first thing that I sawfrom Rams headlines with, with Aaron
Donald was, "Star-studded Rams 53roster finalized," and it's like
okay, they're not the only ones.

Brandan (25:27):
Jason Turner saying Caler has 16 more pounds than Russell, than Russell
so he would be a great fit at fullback.
I, I know I've- Mm… I've heardsome whispers about Caler up possibly
playing a little bit of fullback.
If they were going to do that, likewouldn't you rep Caler up at fullback
a little bit in the preseason?

Adam (25:46):
one would think.
I mean, it's not like hewasn't there to do it.

Brandan (25:51):
Yeah, and it's not like it's, he was one of those depth pieces
that, oh, we really need to have him.
Look, we saw Brady Russell takesnaps, we saw Lampey, take snaps.
I, I, I just- I, I guess that's a thingthat I will believe it when I see it.
It, it just seems like a lot of…
It seems like more talk than…

(26:14):
I, I, I'm, I'm willing to givethat credence until there is, like
actual Keller up at fullback snaps.

Adam (26:20):
Yeah, not a lot of, like, evidence that you've seen for it.
Right.
Just more lip service.
And look, to further your pointtoo, Brandan, it's not like Ouzts got
hurt yesterday, and so they werelike, "No, we're set at fullback.
Why would we put Keller up backthere and give him some tries?"
You know?
Ouzts has been hurt for a while now.
Yeah.
And so you'd think if they wereinterested in doing that, maybe they are

(26:41):
in practice and we just don't see it.
But again, this is why I amso-… bleeping stoked, Brandan.
I am so stoked that today is the lastof, like, the off-season GM'ing part
of football and we're onto football.
Like, actual football.
I can't wait.

Brandan (27:00):
We will get to see how it plays out, Michael Knight, with $5 saying
"I absolutely love the Rams are all in.
Let's do this.
Love the NFC West.
Proud to be in the bestdivision in football.
Rams smell that home Super Bowl.
I don't blame them, but thechip goes through Seattle."
And see, that's again, whatyou're talking about there, Adam.
The, the beautiful thing isthat now we get to play it out.

(27:22):
We get to see what a 35-year-oldAaron Donald looks like, against
the, the Niners in week oneafter we finish our week one game
against the New England Patriots.

Adam (27:35):
That is correct.
And we're gonna see what 35-year-old AaronDonald looks like in, you know, week 10
or whatever it is what week Christmas is.
Like, he, he's got a long waysto go, so that'll be interesting.
I think as I look down the listof the roster here, Brandan, like
obviously not a ton of big surprise.
They're returning aton of dudes this year.

(27:56):
I'd say probably your biggest concernwhen you're looking at all this is not
because of personnel moves, but justbecause of pre-season performance
and you're looking at the kicker.
And did you see Jason Myers'response to Greg Bell asking
him about the pre-season stuff?

Brandan (28:11):
Oh, no.

Adam (28:13):
He's like, "Yeah, so, you know, what's going on, J My?"
And he's like, "Oh, youknow, just kicking things."
And he's like, "Well, Imean, is it something you're
working on or this, that?"
And then he's like, "It's just, you know, it's just kicking things.
That's just, just things you go through, and I'm, I'm, I'm working on it.
I'll have it, I'll have itsussed out, you know, basically."

Brandan (28:32):
Wait, so does that response- And it was like- Does that, bother you?
Yes.
Or does that make you feel better?

Adam (28:37):
It bothers me so much because kickers are so effing weird.
They are so weird.
They're in their own little world.
Like, nobody wants it…
Mike doesn't even wanna addressit, because you don't wanna
go and talk to the kicker.
Like, it's like talking to a pitcher.
Like, it's even more- Yeah, mess withtheir head… m- more in their heads.
Like, yeah, man, it's like, no,it's not just kicking things, dude.

(28:57):
Like, that doesn't makeme feel an ounce better.
b- you know what would make me feela lot better is when you come out and
you're just drilling them in week one.
Do that

Brandan (29:08):
We got Scott Campbell Photography- What's up… with 14.99
Australian.
"Hey, boys, exciting times withthe 53-man roster being set.
Bring on week one as I'llbe in Seattle for the game.
Let's lower the banner and beat the Pats.
Excited for another year of the pod."
Well, it'll be great to see youthere, Scott, because, let's

(29:28):
see, I talked to Tracy, Adam.
She's gonna have her tailgateset up, so I'll be- Yeah.
if you go to getintheflock.com
we'll, we'll have it posted wherewe're planning on meeting up for the
tailgate the morning of the game.
We're planning on meeting at 13 Coins, Tuesday night before the game.
I suppose we should find a post-gamespot to settle down at because

(29:48):
yeah, you and I are gonna be atthe Patriots game too, buddy.
Hell yeah.
Along with Clinton, and yeah.

Adam (29:53):
Yeah.
It's gonna be a ball.
Can't wait to see the championshipbanners drop, all of it.
Can't wait to see sad Patriot face again.
That's gonna be a good time.
It's gonna be great, man.
I can't wait to see ally'all, including you, Scott.
This is gonna be great.

Brandan (30:07):
Dad Golf saying, "Didn't we have a kicker who was
hot one year and cold the next?
Hot then cold."
Yes, that was Jason

Adam (30:13):
Myers.
That's the

Brandan (30:13):
kicker.

Adam (30:15):
Yeah.

Brandan (30:15):
but I think we worked…
So I think this might actually be…
He's missed five or more kicks in theregular season every other season, and I
think, was it, I think it was last year.
Yeah.
Last year he missed five or more, so thisis supposed to actually be his good year.

Adam (30:34):
Yeah, there you go.
And the one question I have, though, because this is, you know
80% half metal for these kickers.
Like, we've got a mental coach,somebody who's working with
Ricky Gervais, right?
In- Michael

Brandan (30:47):
Gervais.

Adam (30:48):
Michael Gervais or whatever his name is.
He's, he's a Gervais.
He's one of the Gervais.
in, in Mr.
Hauschka, right?
Like, he's a kicker.
He knows the mentals, and he's,like, a, a coach at these things.
Like, I need Jason Myers to getwith Hauschka, like, right now.

Brandan (31:04):
NuBlack saying, "I'm actually pretty pissed Rams get a
roster exemption for Donald for twogames so they can carry an extra guy."
I, I have not heard that, but, that doesn't seem right to me.

Adam (31:15):
Yeah, we'll find out, but it would not shock me
in the slightest because- Yeah

Brandan (31:19):
they're giving the, giving the Rams benefits.
Yeah.
They haven't announced…
Well, what, what we have to waitand see is if they're gonna be…
If Alaric Jackson isn't suspended, like, if that announcement doesn't
come this week, there's somethingfunny going on with the NFL and their
ra- and their suspensions if, if…
Puka I'm unsure on, but Alaric Jackson, like, there, there should be no

(31:40):
reason why that dude isn't suspended.

Adam (31:42):
No.
If you're being accused of,domestic violence now for the second
time, then I can't understand howyou're not at the very least- After

Brandan (31:51):
you got suspended for two games the first time

… Adam (31:53):
this is what I'm saying.
How are you not on thecommissioner's exempt list already?

Brandan (31:57):
Yeah.
I, it has to happen this week, I'm sure.
Oh, NuBlack saying Tom Pelissero tweeted.
Okay, well then, the, therethere's some kind of- All right…
exemption there for Aaron Donald.
I don't know, because he's old?
Because, I, I, I-

Adam (32:11):
Because it has to work in

Brandan (32:13):
LA It has, has to work in LA, so.
Marlon saying Puka expected this week.
Yeah, w- I, I expect it too, but y- ifwe're just finding out that these magical
exemptions exist for old guys thatdecide to return to the NFL apparently.

Adam (32:27):
I- if they return for the LA Rams.
Right.
That, that's where themagical exemption comes in.

Brandan (32:31):
Yeah.
Well, then why didn't weget one for Trevon Diggs?
Why, why do we

Adam (32:34):
have to- Are we the LA Rams?
No, because we're awesome and theyblow, so, like, that's, that's
the answer to your question.

Brandan (32:40):
Yeah, there we go.
So, okay.
So kicker is one position group thatwe're a little bit concerned about.
num- if, if that one's numberone, just based on the pre-season
and what we saw- Yeah… from JasonMyers and only making three kicks.
number two position groupthat you would be worried about
I think has to either be betweenrunning back or cornerback

Adam (33:03):
Interesting.
I actually feel okay withrunning back because Holani's a guy.
Like, he's a guy.
Yeah.
And he can do running back things.
everybody else is higher onWilson than I am, so I'll defer
to everybody else on that one.
So like, comfortable enough with that.
And I really like Jadarian, and Ithink that he has a fantastic chance
to be a very good back in the system.

(33:26):
And then, you know, we always have the,you know, extra boost of Charbonnet
coming back, at some point here.
I did want to, address, Ducks, Ducks Blazers here.
He says he's new and hello and, well, hello to you, buddy.
Yeah, welcome.
Thanks for stopping by.
Yeah, love to having you, man.
This is great.
Okay… for me, the, theposition group that I get a little

(33:48):
worried about is just safety, onlybecause of depth at this point.

Brandan (33:52):
Okay.
So it is safety for you.
'Cause I, I like, I likethe starters, right?
Julian Love, Ty Okada, Yeah, I feel

Adam (33:59):
good about

Brandan (33:59):
that… like we- we've seen, and Nick Emmanwori obviously.
And Corner, that's- that's why I feellike for me, it, it does go to running
back because y- y- You don't know whatPrice is going to be until you see him.
There is that wait- Yep… untilCharbonnet gets back, and Halani
yeah, he's, he's just a guy, but Iwanna have that dominant running game.

(34:24):
But as long as the offensive line can,can make that happen, then I, I suppose
we've seen all those years of, you know,Shanahan Broncos running backs that just
ran behind a dominant offensive line.

Adam (34:36):
Yeah, and that's the thing, is that when I'm looking
at running backs in this sort ofsystem, think of all the dudes that
have been through San Francisco.
Think of all the guys that, MikeMcDaniel was able to run through down
there in Miami and get big seasons out of.
Like, this is the sort of system that, you know, you find a guy like Peyton
Hillis, and all of a sudden he's onthe cover of Madden the next year.

(34:58):
You know?
Yeah.
Or CJ Anderson or, youknow, guys like that.
So

Brandan (35:02):
I feel like the- And, and I would feel better about that
though, if we had consistentlyproduced guys like that the way that
the Broncos did for all those years.
And, and so I, I suppose that if wemove on from Ken Walker and, and we
see some dominant run performances thenthrough these first four weeks, well
m- maybe we'll just end up chalking itup to Jadarian Price being good, too

(35:23):
if, if he's the guy that we see it from.
But, I, I guess that's the,that's the one area that I'm watching
for the most to prove it to me.

Adam (35:34):
Look, I get it, because there is the unknown of it, and I
totally understand that, and I thinkit's a, a completely reasonable
place to come from on that.
you said something along the linesof, like, "I'd feel more comfortable if
we had that track record," like, say,the Broncos did there for a while, or the
Niners have had and that sort of thing.
Well, how do you start that track record?

(35:54):
You start by doing itjust like this, right?
Yeah.
We, we had a good year last year.
Like, this is year two.
We're right at the beginningof starting that track record.

Brandan (36:02):
Yeah, like Marlon85's saying in chat, "Ken who?"
Yeah.
Ken who

Adam (36:05):
what?

Brandan (36:05):
I, I wanna…
That's what I wanna besaying is, "Ken who?"
When, we start rollingoff big running back games.

Adam (36:11):
Here's the thing I will not miss about Ken Walker, and
even though I've missed Ken Walker.
Right?
Like, I, I do.
I love Kenny Walker, but,he's, he's already got a foot
injury because of his shoes.
Right.
Like, just like…
I, I'm, I'm glad that's not-

Brandan (36:26):
We, we, we live through that every preseason, right?
Was, what's the, the canineinjury that's gonna sideline him-
Yeah… and, and make us worry, through the first part of the season?

Adam (36:35):
I think two years ago he had, like, a game or two missed
because of shoe injury or somethinglike that-… if I remember right.

Brandan (36:43):
the Charlie the Unicorn, "Will Seattle pull
off another trade soon?"
They made a trade at corner.
I…
If they were to make a trade, where would it, where would it be?
I think there would haveto be an injury that would
precipitate a trade- Yeah… or

(37:05):
I, I guess maybe at edgewould be a spot to where
like, the Connor O'Toole spot.
Like, I could see usgetting better there, or

Adam (37:18):
At, at, at fifth end?

Brandan (37:19):
At, at fifth edge or…
Yeah, but that's where some ofthese trades are gonna happen, right?
Because it's, you're talking abouttrading sixth and seventh rounders
of, of guys who, you know, have piecesthat you wanna add to, to depth.
So, yeah.
It, I, I think it would…
If there would be anything it would beon the defensive line, I would think.

Adam (37:41):
Would it rhyme with Schmack Schmosby?
As the, as the snail had there?

Brandan (37:47):
Yeah.

Adam (37:47):
Is that on your radar at all?

Brandan (37:48):
It's not on my radar, but now it is.

Adam (37:53):
Yeah, I don't know.
we'll see what happens here.
It do- I'm with you, though.
It does feel as if it would bean injury-related thing and, you
know, knock on the wood right now, like, that that doesn't happen.

Brandan (38:07):
Yeah.
I, we don't want any more injuries, but, you know, they, they
will be inevitable and, youjust deal with them from there.
But, overall, 53-manroster, liking the look of it, Adam.
I, I, I'm feeling good.
Feeling good about this team goinginto week one against the Patriots.

Adam (38:30):
Yeah, man.
I'm feeling good about it.
I'm feeling good about JeffArcher69 here.
He said he subbed here on a earliercomment and that he's loving-
Hey-… the conversation… welcome,Jeff We're loving the sub, dude.
Appreciate it, man.
If you're new to thechannel here, as we enter…
Is this year 13 for us, Brandan?
Is that what we decided?
Season 13.
Oh, gosh.
I- Season 14.
Whatever.
in the teens.
look, we do this every single week.

(38:52):
We put out five shows a weekduring the regular season.
We got a really cool previewshow in, What If.
We've got Three and Three out, which recaps the previous game
and we talk about some of the nooksand crannies that maybe a lot of
other folks aren't talking about.
We've got our flagship every singleweek, which is me and Brandan, and
we go through the, previousgame and the upcoming game as well.

(39:16):
we do, Saturday News andNotes, along with Blue Friday
Bets, and that's pretty cool.
Does that get us to five?
Oh, yeah.
We also do the ins- instantreaction after the games on
Sundays or Mondays or whatever.
I guess this time it'll beWednesday, for week one.
But yeah, if you're new here, lot of great content that we
pump out every single week.
We'd love to have you as one of ourlittle Flockers in, along for the

(39:38):
ride as we're running this forward.

Brandan (39:40):
Saw one of the, the questions in chat was…
Oh, here it is.
From, For Me To Be, "What'sthe biggest name on another team
who didn't make the roster?"
And, I- Oof… I thinka lot of the names that I saw
were ones that it wouldn't be…
They wouldn't be dudesthat we would bring in.

(40:02):
Like, Will Levis was one of the guyswho got cut from the Titans and
Cam Miller got cut from the Dolphins.
so m- a lot of quarterbacks werekind of highlighted among those names.
I think, the one for me thatwas the most interesting that
was Evan Neal for the Giants, Adam.
And-

Adam (40:21):
Oh, interesting.
Okay

… Brandan (40:22):
the, the fact that he got cut from the Giants But we've just
got done talking about how much depthwe have on the offensive line, but a
former number seven overall pick- Yeah
in the '22 draft.
yeah.
that, that one's interesting.

Adam (40:39):
It's interesting, but we also went down that path
with John for a while, right?
Where we're bringing in, you know, former first round offensive lineman
the dude from the Jags at tackle.

Brandan (40:51):
that they brought up- Oh

Adam (40:52):
Luke Jokl.
Yeah, Jokl, for a minute.
And yeah, there was a few of them duringthat timeframe, and after that experience
in my fandom, I'm good on it.
Like I, I, I don't need- I don'tneed to explore that again.

Brandan (41:07):
The Snail saying, "Joined October 13, 2013."
Doesn't say when your first video was.
It wa- 20…
Well, our first, our firstseason was the Super Bowl season.
It was.
So it's just so much math to try andcount backwards that many years to try
and figure out, yeah, when it was.

Adam (41:26):
Yeah, yeah.
So, yeah.

Brandan (41:29):
Whatever.
We started at the start of

Adam (41:31):
the Super Bowl season.
We started before that though, becausewe, we were doing the audio pod before we
started putting the audio on YouTube too.

Brandan (41:36):
I, but I think we created the YouTube channel, later that year.

Adam (41:41):
Right.

Brandan (41:41):
So it was that same year.
Oh, you said October- Well, same

Adam (41:43):
year.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm just saying like, it was, westarted before the season started, so
it wasn't like we started mid-season.
There you go.
We, we started the pod to,go ahead and, you know
win the Super Bowl, so…

Brandan (41:56):
For me to be, first person to read my name right, Go Hawks.
It, it was completely by accident.

Adam (42:01):
Hey, I don't even know- If I didn't miss Brandan, I
would've [bleep] that up for sure.
Yep.

Brandan (42:06):
appreciate everybody joining us, as we're talking
about the 53-man roster tonight.
We just wanted to go live andkinda react to what we saw.
And, yeah, appreciateeverybody joining in.
And as I mentioned, getintheflock.com
we still have about 10 ticketsleft, if you wanna join us
for the opening weekend, and, tickets are about 260 a piece.

(42:27):
So, getintheflock.com
if you wanna get that info.
I meant to post that today, and I,I haven't yet, so I'm, I'm gonna go
do that now after we finish up here.

Adam (42:34):
Yep.
We'll get after that.
and, yeah, come meet the Flockersas, Charlie the Unicorn says.
Absolutely.
No, it's awesome.
And look, man, what a cool journeyto be on with all of you guys as we
defend our championship here, and getto run it forward, and get to watch the
Rams implode as most super teams do.
It's gonna be a great time.

(42:55):
It's gonna be a great season.

Brandan (43:00):
I'm ready for it, man.
Let's get to it.

Adam (43:07):
Let's go.

Brandan (43:09):
And I think with that…

Adam (43:12):
There's only one thing left to say

Brandan (43:14):
Go Hawks.

Adam (43:16):
Go Hawks.
