Clinton (00:09):
Welcome to the
Sea Hawkers Podcast.
I'm your host Clinton Bonner.
Adam, the Seahawks, we lose19-16 to the Tennessee Titans.
I'm not so sure the, thefinal score matters tonight.
We're gonna recap this game.
Adam, the Seahawks played exactlyone half of football, basically.
I'm wearing half a shirt.
How you doing, buddy?
Adam (00:27):
I love that you're
wearing half a shirt in honor
of, half a football game.
Look, I mean, there's a lot thatwe can take away from this game.
I've got my pocket full of notes here.
Mm-hmm.
And I think probably the first thingto start out with here, Clinton, if
we're gonna talk about big stories ofthe night- I think that the biggest
story coming out of this game by faris that Jason Myers has the shanks.
(00:51):
Mm.
He has the shanks, Clinton.
You
Clinton (00:52):
go
Adam (00:52):
and kick it early.
Somebody needs to take him aside, make him put his helmet on backwards,
take all his change from his rightpocket to the left, put a golf tee
behind his ear, and stop shootingchili peppers up Lee Jansen's ass.
And start, you know, getting through the ball.
Like, this spraying stuff to theright, it's now two games in a
row, and this is a massive concern.
Clinton (01:11):
Well, look, we, our special
teams was so, so good last year.
Myers literally broke the all-timeNFL record for most points
scored in what did he have?
Six field goals in the lastgame of the season, right?
Going six for six.
Yeah.
And he saved, saved theirass a couple times last year.
That Philip Rivers game comes to mind aswell, late in the season versus the Colts.
He was Money Myers- Yep … all year.
Adam (01:33):
Last year, that, last year.
Clinton (01:34):
Yeah, and so
far, so not very good.
Now, the games don't countyet, but it looks ugly.
You know, I know we're jumping rightinto Kicker Talk, but it looks ugly.
Everything is getting pushed.
Like you said, doesn't seemlike a lot of follow through.
The ball's tailing on him, and itlooks very, very, very, very ugly.
We will get into all of it, and we'llstick on Myers for a second more, but
I always want to recognize Ryan911coming in, our executive live producer.
(01:59):
999 super chat.
Say, "My man, the hosewas fantastic tonight."
We thank you, Ryan.
You're the man.
And, but all right, whatelse you want, do you still want
to talk about Myers, though?
We got it out there early.
Adam (02:10):
Special teams, like-
Clinton (02:11):
Special teams, bad, bad, right?
Again, great last year.
Today- Yeah … the Titans are inthe game, even, even at halftime,
they're in the game becauseour special teams is brutal.
Adam (02:22):
Yeah, it was tough.
Cody White with the fumbleas well on the punt return.
Clinton (02:27):
Yeah.
Adam (02:27):
Henderson had a return
as well where he, like, caught it and
then suddenly took it out, then triedto go back in, and it was just like,
dude, like, run the football, you know?
tough, tough game for special teams, and we wanted to get kind of the bad
out of the way, or at least the majorityof the bad out of the way at first.
There we go.
special teams was theworst unit of the night.
and then you start looking atthe first half and you go, "Holy
(02:49):
crap, the Seahawks', twos arebetter than the Titans' ones."
Clinton (02:54):
Yeah, Robert Saleh can kiss all the grits.
before we do get there, I dothink we have to also recognize
the other bad bad, Bud Clark.
When you bring the air cast out therewithin, like, 30 seconds, bad bad.
Sucks incredibly hard for the youngman, for our team, for our depth.
He's our second round pick,and- I'm no doctor, Adam.
(03:16):
I, I don't, don't even play one on TV, butwhen you're bringing an air cast out and
getting carted off with that much kind offanfare around you, for a lack of a very
bad term there, doesn't look good for Bud.
We'll hear, I'm s- I'm sure shortly,but I don't think we're gonna see this
dude this entire year now it seems like.
Adam (03:32):
No, that looked like
a season ender right there.
Heartbreaking for sure, and youcould see just how much pain he
was in right out of the gate.
I mean, immediatelymotioning to the sidelines.
super tough break, man.
Yeah.
And I was super excited about Bud Clark.
that's, yeah, that's thesecond biggest story of the night,
with Bud Clark going down.
Clinton (03:51):
Yeah, I mean, and I do
wanna get into some of the people we
did see later in even the third andfourth quarter in the safety position,
because now that really opens up,and it may be just examining- Yeah
what can we look at at safety, whenwe get behind, you know, Okada and Love,
'cause that changes, that changes now.
And, yeah, very, very, just very unfortunate.
(04:12):
It's, it's a bru- football stuff, man.
Brutal game.
I mean, look, Raiders go out there todayand Ashton Jeanty blew out an ACL today.
He, he's done- Oh
most likely done- Are we
Adam (04:21):
sure?
Clinton (04:21):
Well-
Adam (04:22):
I just saw an update that they
thought that he avoided major injury.
Clinton (04:24):
I, I, I hope so.
I saw one that said looks like an ACLtear and likely done, so look, I hope
the dude, I hope the dude avoided allthat, but it's a brutal sport, so.
All right, well, there was a lot, alot, a lot of good, especially early.
Where do you wanna go first?
Because that first half, man, wewere kinda cooking and firing on
maybe some old flurry cylinders.
Adam (04:44):
Yeah.
So I think you have tostart offensively, right?
And one of the things that, y- whenwe talked with Bryce Coots on the-
Yeah … Hawk Side just yesterday-
Clinton (04:52):
Great conversation
Adam (04:53):
talking about the idea
of, like, people wanting to see the
offense come out and click and doa little bit better there, and holy
smoly, like, you get a touchdowndrive right out of the gate.
Mm-hmm.
Arroyo makes a couple nice, big plays in, in that drive.
Now, the touchdown was a completecoverage bust, so, like, okay.
you know, the preseason, but- Yeah… look, that's a touchdown drive with your
(05:14):
twos going up against the Titans ones.
Clinton (05:16):
Yes.
Adam (05:17):
And it was crisp, and I
thought Drew Lock had, a better game
tonight than he did in week one of thepreseason, and that was pretty cool.
And then I'm sure we gottaget to- Jarkadia Wright
here at some point as well.
Clinton (05:31):
Yeah, I think so.
And we got, we got Brandan here dialing infrom the airport saying that he says third
biggest story was R2s against the Titansones, and Brandan has of course dialed in.
yeah, man, look, Robert Saleh's, defense looked bad,
and we are pushing them around.
So before we get to celebrate maybea little Jark- Jarkadia Wright,
(05:51):
and give him a little bit offlowers, I mean, look, he ran- Yeah
through a nice hole, I would like to putthe, the emphasis on the run blocking in
that particular play, because it wasn't…
It was like three or four peoplehad to do their job really,
really well against dudes likeSimmons right in the middle there.
So I'll go to my guy, I mean,on the pull there, UConn, my
(06:14):
UConn boy, Christian Haynes.
Yeah.
This is the second week in a row,Adam, where I was like, okay, I think
Christian Haynes is solidifying himselfas like, okay, as a legit backup guard
right now, right behind Bradford.
I think he played pretty good, dude.
What did you see?
Adam (06:30):
Yeah, overall I think
he had a, a decent game, and the
block on the touchdown run where hepulls and gets out there was- Yeah
a fantastic block.
You know, he had some down momentsas well, and I think this is
something that we're gonna have totalk about in regards- Mm-hmm … to
a number of performances tonight.
There's some bad andthere's some good, right?
And that doesn't mean it wasall dog water, and it doesn't
mean it was all awesome.
(06:51):
But at the end of the day,Christian Haynes has the nice
block there on the touchdown run.
Two plays before, he getsabsolutely smoked by Simmons.
Mm-hmm.
and just, you know at that point, you're like, "Look, I really hope that
we don't have to play Christian Haynesagainst elite D tackles on the regular."
that could get problematic.
So, yeah, I think at this point, especially with Richmond going down early
(07:15):
in the game- Right … I, that looked…
He jogged off, it lookedlike he might be okay.
but I think ChristianHaynes may have s- solidified
a spot as the number two guard.
Clinton (07:24):
Which is pretty crazy
considering where we thought maybe
he, you know, may- maybe likejust battling for a roster spot.
I agree, and I think Cabledo gotin early because Richmond went out.
I think it was Cabledo who actuallyseals Simmons on that long run.
I think it was.
If someone wants to check in chat- Yeah… you can let us know, but I think it was
77, which is, which I think is Cabledo.
Yeah.
Adam:
but then Cabledo was
also playing late into the fourth
(07:46):
quarter also, so he was- Right
I think he was out there becauseof the, the ding to Richmond, but
that's, that's the way it goes.
But also, you know, okay, that's the payoff play.
What did you see from Fleury's offense?
I saw a couple things right outof the gate that I really liked,
I would say philosophy-wise.
Okay … during thefirst couple of plays.
Well, it was simply like BradyRussell with a head of steam,
(08:08):
you know, under center witha fullback kind of o- offset, and
your, you're running back deep, andthen- playing off of that, right?
So that right, right out of the gate.
And then they, then they changeit up and they get in the shotgun
and do some things from there.
But I thought just philosophically andwatching how Fleury scripted the opening
10 or 12 plays or so looked really goodto me, especially when you consider it's
(08:32):
R2s going against Titan- Titans' 1s.
Anything else, any wrinkles from Fleury orjust, just, you know, ways in which he
got, got the game going that excited you?
Adam (08:41):
Yeah.
I mean, some of the multiple motionsthat, you see them go with, and
like we've seen Brady Russell go inmotion and then they check a receiver
in or out or something like that.
That was kinda fun.
Mm.
I think the number one thing that Ikinda took away from it was just how
many condensed formations that- Yeah
we ran.
It was almost all of that, right?
And-
Clinton (08:57):
Even out of shotgun, though.
Like- Mm-hmm … it was still, like, condensed around the line, for sure.
So that, that's a great point.
Adam (09:03):
Yeah.
So, you know, you kinda get thatfeel of the bully ball style of
offense that I think Coach Mikewants to run, and the type of offense
that I would love to see them run.
But good sequencing from, Fleury inthe first drive and the scripted plays.
And now that's two games in a rowwhere I feel like the scripted
plays looked really, really good.
(09:24):
And honestly, af- outside of that,I think he improved this game
compared to week one as a playcaller because the offense continued.
The, obviously they scored thetouchdown, they put Myers in position
for another field goal at one point, and I, I thought they moved the ball
pretty effectively throughout the firsthalf and I, I think that's a great,
great step to see out of Brian Fleury.
Clinton (09:44):
Yeah, and I think, what
was it, 16-9 at the half, I wanna say.
Yeah, 16 to nine at the half, but thatwas with a m- a missed PAT, a missed
field goal, and the Cody White fumblewhich gave them three points, right?
So- Right … right there,a seven-point swing.
This should've been a, in a, I thinkin a typical Seahawks game, what
starts in a couple of weeks, I thinkthis game would've been over by halftime.
(10:06):
You know, they would'vebeen shut the door.
But, again, wetalked about Myers early.
Just can't, you can't leave thosekind of points on the board.
but of course, Wrighthas that big touchdown.
We actually get pushback withthat longer PAT, make it like a
40-something yarder to, for anextra point, but he pushed it right.
All right, so but either way, the firsthalf was still really good, holding
(10:27):
the Titans to only three, youknow, only three f- field goals,
which is really not all that bad.
There were some…
Anything else about the, the offensefirst half, particular players?
It…
The stat lines aren't, like, outstanding.
There wasn't even like a, a Fosterthis time to look at and be like, "Oh
God, yeah, five or six receptions."
It was really more spread out.
(10:48):
and besides the big play fromWright- I'm not su- I don't have much
else to, to g- grab on in saying thisoffensive player stood out versus another.
Do you?
Adam (11:00):
No, not really.
I mean, it felt like kind of a steadyperformance in the first half, and
then when we got to the second half, things got, less steady,
le- if we're gonna put it nicely.
Yes.
look, eh, in the first half,it, that was all positive stuff.
That's all the stuff that we wantedto see from the offense in…
(11:20):
That's without even the starters playing,and I think that's a massive positive.
But then we get to the second half, and it's like, oh my stars, the, the
back end of the roster receivers,if you're relying on them, on
the regular, we're in big trouble.
Clinton (11:36):
Yeah, we're not.
Yeah.
We're not, we're not,and we're not going to.
Yeah.
But they were, they were, bad.
They were GR double, G-R-O-doubleS gross, I think is how you say it.
They weren't good.
But, I'd like to flipback, if it's okay by you.
In the first half, there were a coupleof players I thought, defensively
that, that really jumped out to me.
One that I'll start with is I thinkBrandon Peely really had a nice game.
(12:00):
Oh, interesting.
Okay.
I thought Peely was super disruptive.
He's just…
I thought he was, like, in thebackfield quite a bit, just,
just really blowing things up.
I had, a couple ofdifferent scenarios.
There was one in, like, fiveminutes to go in, in the, in
quarter one, second down play.
It becomes like a two-yard run, but it'sa two-yard run because Peely outright
beats, you know, wins, wins his spot, andthere's a, a clean linebacker to come in.
(12:23):
Might've been Paul.
I thought Paul played really, really well.
I thought he, I th- his- Yeah, he,he had a couple plays … his best
game so far, I think, as well.
and let me see.
I had a couple more.
Oh, you know what I got?
I, so one more who I thought played-I think he had a, a near sack
in the first half, and then he,I think he gets a sack, maybe it
(12:44):
was, like, early third qu- quarter.
Thought Jamie Sherriff played areally good game of football, man.
So he's wearing number 50 out there.
He had a bull rush, s- early, early second quarter, where he
just walks, dog-walks this guy backinto the, into s- I think Cam Ward
was still in, into Cam Ward's lap.
Doesn't get the sack, buthe disrupts the entire play.
(13:06):
At the, I think it was early thirdquarter, Adam, he does get the sack,
but again, he just dog-walks a tackledirectly back, and at that point it
might have been Levis' lap or Trubisky.
Boy, they have a lot of quarterbacks, flying around Tennessee, Adam.
But, Sherriff stood out to me, andyou saw other dudes like Gaines get
in later, and other dudes getting inlater, but I thought Jamie Sherriff
(13:29):
made a really good, showingfor himself that, off the edge…
This wasn't speed either.
This was pure I'm running throughyour face- Yeah … and still
getting to the quarterback.
I was encouraged by whatI saw from Sherriff.
Adam (13:43):
Yeah.
I, I think that he had a couple of reallynice reps, getting some penetration,
and actually, you know, screwing up theplay a little bit there for the Titans.
Another, if we're gonna stick kindato, some of the defensive line
stuff, you know, Connor O'Toole hasa sack- Yeah … and a nice TFL,
in the game as well, and I thought heflashed and, and showed some stuff.
I also felt like, number 70,Singleton, at the defensive tackle
(14:06):
spot, he, he made some- Yes, good pick off
some nice plays, and, you know,he got pushed around a little
bit in the run game at times.
But also had some, some nice plays, and, getting in the backfield, and,
and really stretching some things out.
yeah, I thought that was, that was pretty encouraging.
to kinda shift focus to maybe theback end of the defense, we talk about
(14:28):
corner three all the time- Mm-hmm
and what we're gonna be doing there.
There was some moments that I, Ifelt like Dansby had a couple nice
plays, Fuller had a couple niceplays- Yeah … then a bad one.
Like, there, there was some up and downthere from those guys, but some flashes
that maybe we hadn't seen before.
Clinton (14:44):
Yeah, we got,
WaterBearer79 saying, "Pritchett
looked pretty good to me."
So Nehemiah Pritchett had avery nice play, a little bit
later- Mm-hmm … on that scri-the bubble, on the bubble, right?
Where he just, he- Yep … just bursts it,he goes right through the wide receiver,
says, "No, you know, not today, Satan,"and he just makes a, a really nice
tackle right at the line of scrimmage.
but I saw the same from Dansby.
(15:04):
You mentioned Dansby.
Adam (15:05):
Mm-hmm.
Clinton (15:06):
I like Dansby
around the line of scrimmage.
I have not, personally,I have not seen enough.
This is not like, "Oh, I haven'tseen it, therefore it's bad."
This is literally I haven't seenenough volume of him in coverage.
But the things, for me, one of thethings with the Mike Macdonald defense
is if you're a cornerback, you need tobe able to stick your hat in there and
(15:26):
tackle well around the line of scrimmage.
So for me, this was the second time I sawDansby really make a, a plus plus play.
One was, last week, andthere was one this week as well.
So it's like, okay, so it's there, it'son tape, and he, and he's a good…
He brings his hat.
The other one you mentionedwas Singleton, right?
Singleton, to me, had two splash playsthat were both really, really good.
(15:50):
The, there was one where he beats theedge and he, and whoever it was, and
he strings the play out to the side.
And then it's Hook, who might get achance now at safety, you know, who, and
he comes flying off the screen, bringshis hat, and he makes a really nice
tackle, so it was a nice combination play.
But it's kind of cool to, like, look at these guys that are
gonna be bubbly/ready squad.
(16:12):
And while the second half of thegame was choppy at best and the-
Yeah … interior line got bowledover, it was ugly again for certain
dudes on the in- on the interiorline, there were these bright moments
from a guy like, Singleton, who Ithink was rocking number 70 out there.
Yeah.
If folks are like, "Whoare we talking about?"
I think he's number 70.
Adam (16:33):
Yep, you're correct.
Number 70.
and I think you're also correct withyour assessment of, like, the overall
defensive line play in the second half.
the threes and the fours, like, they're, they were concerning.
And the good news is, is that, you know, we're not gonna
remember any of this by week five.
Hmm.
And, it'll all begone, and that's fine.
(16:54):
but- The competition for quarterbackthree was, is gonna be interesting.
I also thought, you know, we talkabout safety position stuff, I
thought De'Anthony Bell had a, ahandful of nice plays in this game
as well, and, showed out nicely.
So you know, some flashes, andthat's kinda what you're looking
for in preseason games, right?
Like, the idea of picking out a lotabout Fleury's scheme or, you
(17:18):
know, seeing some cohesion out ofthe threes and the fours in the, in
the second half of a preseason game, like it's just not gonna happen.
I mean, that- Yeah … that looked likea preseason game, all the penalties,
the, the- Yeah … choppiness of it.
Clinton (17:30):
It got
Adam (17:31):
ugly.
and so yeah, like Bell, Dansby, Singleton, Otoole, those are the
guys defensively that kinda stood out.
I'd be interesting, interested tohear your take on, Montorie Foster Jr.
in this game, Clinton, 'cause we'vegot a little back and forth,
in the comments here regarding-Yeah … Foster's performance.
So, where, where did you, what did you take from that?
Clinton (17:54):
Yeah, I th- you know, I think
there was, well, the, the outs or
the, the re- the reason Br- Brandanwas out on Foster as we're seeing
on screen, w- well, I think the,one of the reasons was he had, he had
another false start penalty, right?
So those are- Yeah
absolute no-nos.
You just can't do them.
Drive killers in certain ways, and certainly momentum stoppers.
but the other stuff I thoughtwas, it was, I think Foster…
(18:17):
Well, let's see, lookingat the stats real quick.
What did Foster end up doing?
Foster, okay, he had the, yeah, hehad one catch, but for 24 yards.
So he did have a- Mm-hmm
you know, kind of-Yeah … one big splash play.
I don't, he had, he had threetargets, so he only, only hauls
in one, but again, the ball wasreally spread around quite a bit.
So I don't know.
I keep seeing enough from Fosterthat I think he's got a legit
(18:39):
shot of making this roster.
Cody White did not have a good day.
Now I think- No … I think Cody Whiteis locked into this roster, I think.
I think.
Adam (18:49):
Yeah?
Clinton (18:49):
But he had a shot to go
up and get, get a 50/50 ball from
Milroe down the right-hand side.
Doesn't come down with that.
and then of course he has areally, really bad muff on that
punt and they turn the ball over.
So Cody White was, just a little off today.
He had one- Yeah … reception, eightyards on two targets, and, and
that really bad, that really bad miss.
(19:11):
But, you know, RickyWhite had a nice little day.
He had the two receptions for 22, buthe also had a big play called back
that- Mm … they called hi- him, Ithink, on, OPI, where he gets-
Yeah … he gets the arm extendedand they call it, the arm's extended.
Sometimes they're gonnasee that and call that.
But I don't mind it, you know.
I think he, he got the separation and,and he gets, downfield real quick.
(19:33):
Mm-hmm.
So
Adam (19:34):
he- Yeah, and Milroe
hit him with a great ball.
Clinton (19:35):
Yeah, yes he did.
He did.
didn't, ends up not counting, but, but that was right on time.
So, so that was another one for methat I thought that, I thought White
played pretty well or at least gothimself back into this, this kind of race.
Adam (19:50):
Yeah.
'cause we hadn't been talkingabout Ricky White much, and,-
Yeah … it, it was nice to see himgo out and have a few opportunities.
To kinda go back to Foster a littlebit- Mm-hmm … he had the one big
24-yard, catch on the in breaker that, again, Milroe put right on the money.
It was a perfect throw.
that was really cool to see.
(20:10):
he also had the opportunityfor the touchdown, in the first
half, and Locke just overthrew him,but just, just- Yeah … that much.
Clinton (20:19):
Yeah, that's right.
Oh, that…
I forgot about that play.
So that was, that was a greatall-out dive, and, you know, it's…
the ball moves a little bit, andthat's gonna be enough, obviously.
So he- but that was agood effort, and it was-
Adam (20:30):
Great effort
…Clinton: yeah, really r-
yeah, fantastic effort, right?
And you're right.
Locke, it just- he's open.
Like-
Yeah
…Clinton: Foster did his job all the way
through, then lays out, just can't make
a diving play as he hits the ground.
What are you gonna do?
But if Locke has a little more loft onthat or it's a half a yard less deep,
(20:50):
he's catching that in stride for six.
So- Yeah … really glad youbrought that back up, 'cause I
momentarily forgot about that.
But his stat line would shiftdramatically, and he'd be the kinda
the talk of the town again aboutcatching another, another touchdown.
so it's a little bit of, of amiss, but you know that when Fleury
and Mike and the team go back andwatch that, they're gonna lo- watch the
(21:11):
process and be like, he once again gotopen, which is what we talked about.
Like, this dude routinely gets open.
He has some mental stuff- Yeah … thatwe saw on Hard Knocks, Adam, but for
my money It's really hard to cut adude in the NFL, especially a wide
receiver, when they consistentlyget separation, and he's doing that
(21:32):
Here's the problem, though.
It's easy to cut a wide receiverin the NFL when you continue
to compound boneheaded plays.
Mm-hmm.
Like mental errors.
That's the type of stuff thatdrives coaches absolutely insane.
Clinton (21:44):
True.
Adam (21:44):
Right?
Like, to get a false start as awide receiver is maybe the most ex-
inexcusable, false start of anyof the players that are on offense.
Like, all you have to do is look in,and when the ball's snapped, go run.
Like, you can't…
Y- y- you- there's no way youshould be listening to the snap
(22:06):
count or anything like that, andif you are, you're doing it wrong.
so yeah, that's gonna be something.
The inconsistency, the volatility ofFoster's play is gonna be a difficult
thing for y- John Schneider and MikeMacdonald to evaluate at the end of
the day and, you know, decide ifthat's somebody that they wanna keep
(22:26):
around based on the upside, or ifthey can't deal with the nonsense
like Clinton's, no-sleeve shirt.
Clinton (22:33):
I got Noof Guy calling me out.
He's considering dresscode on YouTube live.
so you might have missedthe, the beginning there, Noof.
I'm on the East Coast.
My wife is sleeping.
I was watching the game downstairs.
There's no, there's no shirtsdown here, so this is what it is.
So the Sea- it's, I made thejoke, Seahawks play in a half,
I'm wearing a half shirt.
I appreciate it.
And we got Brian saying, "Hey, isthat the rule for hosts or viewers?"
(22:53):
For you, whatever y'all wanna doat home, but then I like this too.
I'm out.
Then, then Brandan'ssaying, "Just no nips.
Just no nips, Noof Guys."
No nips.
So going with the, the JanetJackson rule here, so no nips.
but I hope…
I'm, I'm happy to take a, aribbing over this, this,
poor, poor man's Pat McAfee lookthat I got going on here, so.
all right.
So first half good, second half terrible.
(23:16):
Really, really bad.
But let's see, there's, wetalked about Milroe already.
There were some other dudes I thoughtin the second half that, that still
played pretty well or had, had a couple…
Actually, we went through them.
We went through Singleton,we went through Dansby.
We talked about Hook already.
Adam (23:30):
Yeah.
Clinton (23:30):
We did not talk
about Milroe's performance.
I think- Mm-hmm … I think we should talkabout Milroe, because again, the pendulum
or the, reactions are, are wide.
E- even in our chat here, we gotsome people saying, "I think- Yeah
he played pretty well," and I gotsome pe- and some people are like,
"Hey, trade this dude already."
which is odd, because he's,you know, he's a second-year guy.
(23:52):
So Adam, what did you see from Milroe?
two interceptions are not goodof course, but, but there was stuff
also beyond those interceptions.
Adam (24:00):
Right.
Well, let's start with theinterceptions and be honest about
the, the play on the field when itcame to those two interceptions.
The first interception, inexcusable.
You can't just- Yeah … notsee that dude, you know?
Like, it- you really, really can't.
And that was an awful pick.
God awful.
Like, double minus ifyou're grading it, right?
Clinton (24:21):
Yeah.
And he's, and he looks like he'strying to stare that, that particular
line- I think it was a linebacker whodropped back, or safety, whatever.
But it looks like he'strying to stare that guy off.
Like, it like, he's is right there.
So it wasn't, you know, it wasn't likea nose tackle dropping back, you know,
with a, with a misdirection or ifit got, you know, like a multiply-
Adam (24:40):
You know, just
a basic zone drop from
Clinton (24:41):
a linebacker.
Yeah.
Yeah, very much.
Mm-hmm.
Right?
Just like a little drop back and, andhe's sitting in that zone, and Milroe's,
you know, staring down that section.
So do you think he didn't see him, or doyou think it was a little bit of hubris?
I could, I could fit that in there.
What do you think, Adam?
Adam (24:57):
If I had to guess, it's
that he didn't see them, see the guy.
Because when they flashed to him onthe sideline right after that, like, he
looks at the tablet and then just kindaimmediately is just like, "Oh my gosh."
You know, like how…
Like, so that's my guess.
I don't know for sure.
I know that the announcers tried tomake it sound like he was trying to
hold that linebacker with his eyes.
Clinton (25:16):
Yeah,
Adam (25:16):
that's what they said.
That's not what I saw-Yeah … on the, on the game tape.
Maybe when we go back and break down theall-22 it'll look a little different.
But, yeah, that's a, that's a,that's a terrible, terrible pick.
it turns out young quarterbacksthrow terrible, terrible
picks, every now and then.
Yep.
It happens.
Clinton (25:33):
Yep, even Peyton-
… Manning, threw a bunch
of them his rookie season fromwhat, from what I remember, so.
Adam (25:37):
Right.
Right.
So then we get to the secondpick, on the boot, and,
yeah, he, he misses it on the run.
That's a much more difficult throw, but you are going to your right.
And he, he just puts itabout a foot too far behind.
Mm-hmm.
Should Henderson keep his feet and be ableto, at the very least, knock that down?
Yeah.
(25:58):
He did him zero favors by stretchinghis one leg way out and just slipping.
but a poor throw.
That was his most inaccuratethrow, of the entire
preseason- Yeah … to this point.
and so when you look at Milroe'sperformance, those are the two
things people are gonna focus on.
And if you hear a lot of people out theretelling you that that was a dog water
(26:21):
performance, that he took a thousandsteps back, that, as Brandan put it in
our group chat, that Jalen Milroe justwoof, well, then you're just wrong.
You're just wrong.
Because we mentioned closer to theearlier part of the podcast here, like,
there was a number of really good throwsthat he made, and good decisions where
(26:41):
he actually had some clean pocketsand threw some really nice footballs.
Like, again, that inbreaker to Foster Jr.,
that's a great throw.
That's a great throw.
And he had a handful ofthose throughout the game.
I think, I think, you know, youtalked about one on a comeback on
the right-hand side that, it, it,it hits you a certain kind of way.
Clinton (27:01):
Yeah.
Well, just he…
I think he kind of just missed them andkind of d- he dirtied one a little bit.
I mean, you, you miss, if you misslow where a guy's covered, that's
not a bad place to miss, right?
That's where
Adam (27:10):
you put that ball.
Clinton (27:11):
Right.
It's- Yeah … it's, well, you'd likeit to be a couple of feet higher so you
c- can actually catch it, but look, Ididn't think Milroe was very good tonight.
I think we're gonna disagree on this.
I, and I'm not saying youthink he was good tonight.
I,
Adam (27:20):
I don't know
that we are disagreeing.
Clinton (27:22):
Like- I think he was, I think
he was okay, and he got zero help again.
There we go.
And he got zero help again isthe big thing, too, because
every, oh, stat line changesaround, the drives change around.
That ro- that Rochelle drop, that's a beautiful, that's a- Yeah
a, a planned boot to the left-hand side.
Beautiful play, nice concept, using what Milroe does very well.
(27:44):
So nice to see what Fleury understanding, hey, I can get Milroe out of the
pocket, get him on the move, and ifit's not there, then he's in position
to use the Ferrari and use the legs.
But guess what?
On that play, there was a there there, andMilroe put it exactly where it had to be.
That's a great throw, right?
So-
Adam (27:59):
Yeah
…Clinton: I could see enough of these, enough of these moments where
it's like, no, those are good throws.
I thought the ball to Cody White, wetalked about it right before we hopped on.
Yeah.
You were a bit more forgivingon Cody than that one.
I thought, you know, like, hey, you gotta make plays, too.
You gotta, you gotta makeplays- Yeah … for your guy.
And Cody had kind of like, kind ofhad the high man position, right?
Yeah.
He jumped at the exact right time, andhe was about to high point that thing.
(28:21):
I just don't think hecame down with the ball.
He didn't come down with the ball.
So I thought it was uneven, and theinterceptions are bad, and I thought,
I thought he was worse than last week.
and I'm not saying- Okay … liketerribly worse or markedly
worse, but I thought it was…
And not, it's not a step backbecause it's not about that.
But I think overall performance-wise,I thought he was a little cleaner last
(28:42):
week, and that was disappointing for me.
I don't know.
I, so I, I, I would agree with you.
This is not a good performance.
When you have two atrocious picks,it's not gonna be a good performance.
it wasn't, it wasn't dog [bleep] either.
there's, again, a lot of goodstuff on the tape, and we'll do
another, film breakdown onthat, and, just to kind of show
(29:05):
people what actually happened there.
I did see one comment in the chat heretalking about how the, when Milroe came
in, bunch of false starts and holdings-Mm … and all that stuff, right?
And, I'm not sure if thecommenter was, kind of
trying to pin that on Milroe.
but and we'll comeback to, Brandan's comment
(29:28):
here on the Cody White part.
Mm-hmm.
but, y- look, when you getin with the threes and the fours-
Yeah … that's what it looks like.
I, I don't put any of that onMilroe, like, really at all.
he had the nice, sc- he had a couple nice scrambles.
He had one long one,- Mm-hmm … youknow, picked up a first down.
I think on the fourth down play whereJonathan Vilma kinda killed him for not
(29:52):
running, it was like, okay, to where?
Clinton (29:55):
Mm.
Yeah,
Adam (29:56):
there wa- Like, there's
dude right in front of him.
Nobody was open downfield.
Venette broke freely- Yeah, I mean,like- … tried to come back- Yeah … but
he was already having problems there.
Like, I don't think the announcers didhim any favors, with perception.
you know, "Oh, he's just aquarterback who's not confident."
He threw a lot of confident balls tonight.
it, it, it was, it was an upand down performance, and it's,
(30:20):
like, maybe just okay minus, like, was his performance tonight.
Clinton (30:24):
I think that's-
Adam (30:24):
Regarding the…
Yeah.
Clinton (30:25):
No, I, I think that's fair.
Do you wanna go back to,the, the Cody White play?
Adam (30:29):
Yeah, yeah.
I actually think thatthat was a smidge underthrown.
Like, I mean, if we'rebeing real honest about the
Clinton (30:35):
performance.
But I think this one's different, though.
You're saying the third andfive, which was- Yeah … or is
that the shot down the sideline?
That's shot
Adam (30:40):
down
Clinton (30:40):
the sideline.
Oh, that's the one.
Okay, yeah, okay.
Adam (30:42):
Yeah.
Clinton (30:42):
may, again, maybe a
little underthrown, but the, the
DB was right with Cody White, too.
So it wasn't like- Yeah … oh,if he throws it perfectly.
It's still not a 50/50, because-No … it was, it was that,
w- it was covered well, right?
Which I don't mind.
Y- it's third and five, you takeyour shot down the sideline, and
Cody White is your bigger receiver.
That's the type of ball heshould go up and go get.
(31:03):
Again, for me, White had a pretty, pretty rough day out there.
and again, turnoversare gigantic in the NFL.
So when you throw two picks or youmuff a crucial punt- Right … that
allows the team to get back into it,well, you, you're gonna get, you're
gonna get talked about a little bit, unfortunately in a negative way.
Something super positive, though,we got Mark on Zero Hawk with a
$10 Super Chat saying, "Good tosee some depth finally develop.
(31:26):
Lots of great stuff from thosenot named Milroe and Myers."
So obviously, Mark was notinto the, Milroe, game.
We did talk about Myersalready, but thank you, Mark.
We appreciate that a lot.
Hey, I got some looks like bad news, just kind of floating in here.
Mm.
So I think it was Nate,Nate Schutz, who is very fun to
hang out with on our Discord.
(31:47):
Everybody here should getinvolved in our Discord.
It's fantastic.
Go to Go- Get in the, getintheflock.com.
I think it's five bucks a monthnow to get in the Discord.
It's a ton of fun.
Like and subscribe.
But Nate, burying the lead here, says, "Damn, just heard they think
Mason Richmond's injury is severe."
So, if there's more about that, put it in, put it in the, comments.
please let us know what's up so wecan kind of rep- you know, maybe give, if
(32:09):
there's a report or someone's tweeting itout, or Mike Macdonald said something, we
wanna be as accurate as we can, especiallywith a young man's future like that.
Nate, that's, stinks for all of us.
that was a dude- Hope it's not
Adam (32:21):
true, but
Clinton (32:21):
I think- I'll,
yeah, hope, hope it's just
not, you know, not, not true.
But that was, he was, he's locked in at,he was locked in, basically, it looked
like, as our, as our backup left guard.
So if, if we lost him also, and welost what was gonna be our backup
safety, man, we're takingsome, we're taking some hits.
(32:42):
And- Mm … and last season was,we had injury, we had injuries,
but they tended to be like, "Okay,he'll be out a couple of weeks.
All right, he'll be,it's a two-week thing.
Even it's a six-week thing.
Cool, he'll be back."
This year so far, Adam, it's like we'rehitting some, some guys that are, they're,
they're done for the year with Bobo.
Right.
It looks like, looks like Bud Clark.
I'm sh- unfortunately- Yeah … surethat news is gonna be bad on him too.
Adam (33:04):
Yeah, no, for sure.
I guess in comparison to some of theother teams around the league, I mean, at
least it is, hasn't been too, knockon wood, key starters, to this point.
Yeah,
Clinton (33:15):
yeah.
Adam (33:15):
Right?
Clinton (33:15):
Yeah.
Adam (33:16):
so, there is that.
And look, I mean, it's agame of attrition, and these
things are going to happen.
and the good news is, is that theypractice at the VMAC and not next to
a substation, so I don't think thatthis is gonna be a continuing trend.
But, yeah, a bummer for Richmond, bummer for Bud Clark, no doubt.
Clinton (33:38):
Yeah, we got Car Car
Carly Perkins asking a great,
great question out there for folksthat, you know, might not know.
She's asking, "Was Richmondpredicted to make this roster?"
I think, Car Car, the answer is yeah.
I think he was, he was lookinglike the very likely backup
left- Mm-hmm … left guard.
He was winning that battle, and thatwas all the buzz, and that it was,
you know, Cable dude was slidingbackwards, and others were, were…
(33:59):
And Richmond was kinda lapping thefield when it came to backup left
guard, which at that point, you know, you're, you're pretty obviously,
you're very close to getting outthere for, w- with the ones.
hopefully no more injuries, knockon, knock on all the wood for that.
All right, so anything elseyou see in chat, Adam, or
areas that we did not canvas?
again, overall the stuff that mattersmost, we talked about Jason Myers,
(34:24):
certainly has gotta get, get right.
Yeah.
But beyond, but beyond that, us, theSeahawks played really good football
when we had our, our top playersout there, second-string guys, and
it was against Tennessee's ones at-Yeah … the beginning of that game.
And we were the, the most crisp.
Lock looked good, and we lookedlike a, a well-oiled machine on both
(34:46):
sides of the ball- Yeah … when, when the twos were out there.
So- I think that's a bigimprovement from last week as well.
And again, I think that first half wasa lot more like what we're gonna see
of, of regular, if you will, Seahawksfootball when the real lights go on.
Adam (35:02):
And it does give you some
confidence offensively just in terms
of seeing it work and being like,"Okay, this is, this is similar to the
scheme that we're, all comfortablewith from last year," no doubt.
oh boy, here we go.
Yeah.
yeah, Mark here has in thecomments, "It is confirmed by
ESPN head coach, Mike Macdonaldconfirmed it's a major longterm injury.
(35:24):
expected to sidelineRichmond for multiple months."
also Brandan- Sounds like it … onthe plane seems to have, gotten the
same information, so, so that stinks.
But- Yeah … yeah, offensively,I think that was a, a positive
performance in the, in the first half, and Drew Lock looked pretty darn good.
I mean, there was a g- a couplethings you could get nitpicky about,
(35:44):
but he looked pretty darn good.
And I think that we didn'treally talk enough about Wright's
performance in this game, because-
Clinton (35:51):
Okay, let's talk about that,
Adam (35:52):
yeah … I thought he was
pretty dang good as a, as a whole.
Now, that's two preseasons in a rowwhere he's flashed, and that gives me
a little more confidence going intothe season knowing that Charbonnet
is not gonna be back for a while.
And, we've yet to see Price,as fans, like, do anything on TV.
So- Yeah … we'restill projecting that.
Clinton (36:12):
So I've got a very
different take on this.
so the, this is Ja- Ja-Ja- Ja- Jacardier Wright side.
Yeah, I'm, I'm
Adam (36:20):
not
Clinton (36:20):
even gonna- It's,
it's, I always wanna put an R
at the beginning, but it's J-Jacardier Wright, so I apologize.
Adam (36:24):
Jacardier.
Clinton (36:25):
Yeah, Jacardier,
which is a really kinda cool name.
So h- he goes eight carries for 81.
He, you know, that's a great average.
10, the one touchdown, but thelong was, it was a 69-yard run.
I, I, like, I know there'ssome people that love Wright in
our Discord, and that's cool.
I don't see m- I don'tsee a lot from, from him.
I just don't.
I don't, I think he's at the, at…
(36:46):
He doesn't, to me, doesn'thave, like, crazy elusiveness.
And look, he hit a hole that was therethat, a running back should go hit.
Yeah.
He had enough breakaway speedto, to take that to the house.
Fine.
I can't blame a guy.
It- it's a 69-yard touchdown, so I'mnot g- I'm not gonna dog the guy.
I don't think he's allthat, that special a back.
(37:07):
I think that Velus Jones has s- has morespecial qualities in terms of burst.
And then of course we have not s-Emmanuel Wilson can't find the field,
and we're a couple of weeks out fromkickoff- Mm-hmm … and he's been injured.
and you know, Holani wethink is good, you know, good
to, and can pop a bit- He's okay
but good.
Yeah.
I, I think he's a good back withsome upside, but not, not great.
(37:30):
And then you say we haven't, wehaven't seen Price one bit yet.
It is interesting that they put Pricereally in bubble wrap and, and- Yeah
… the report was, for those that didn'tsee it, like, hey, the coaches have seen
enough, and enough in a positive way, like the explosiveness, the vision, it
all being there, the contact balance.
They saw enough this week with the, with the shared practice with
(37:53):
the Titans that they were like, "Wedo not need to risk him out there."
So if you wanna say more aboutWright, of course, go ahead.
But I'm interested in your takeon, the coaches putting Rice,
Price in bubble wrap too.
Adam (38:06):
Yeah, I mean, of course
we're gonna trust Coach Mike.
I, I mean, at this point it, it's hardto, you know, cast much doubt on a lot
of his decisions because of, the jobhe's done since he's gotten to Seattle.
it- what I was saying, like it's projection for us.
Like I was speaking more for us fans.
Like we, we just haven't seen him, like unless you went to training camp.
(38:27):
And, so we're…
I, I loved his film in college.
I, I think he's gonna be good.
I'm excited about it.
but it is disappointing tome to not see him on a personal
level, but you know what?
The Seahawks don't need to make me happywith who they play in the preseason.
Right.
Like that's not what they'retrying to, trying to get done.
I do have a question for you.
(38:48):
Yeah, I mean, you talked about Holaniand, and, and Wilson and then Wright.
Let, let's compare Holaniand Wright a little bit.
Like which one of those twois more explosive to you?
Clinton (39:00):
I think Holani's
still a, little more…
I think, I think Wright is- Explosive?
I think, I think so.
I think, yeah, I've seen enough,and I think he's a better pass
catcher, and I think he's…
I mean, I also saw, I s- also sawWright have a bad miss today on
a, on a, a, a blocking assignment.
Bad, bad miss.
Okay,
Adam (39:14):
cool.
I, that's not what I was asking about.
I was asking
Clinton (39:16):
about explosiveness.
Well, those
Adam (39:17):
things also…
Clinton (39:18):
I- Yeah … I don't
think Wright is that explosive.
I just don't see him as like, "Oh my gosh,he's making people miss that, that should,
that should be tackling him," and, andhe's ex- and b- being super explosive.
Even the touchdown run, it's a nice run,but to me it wasn't like, "Oh my gosh,
look how he got through that hole."
It's not like you'rewatching Jahmyr Gibbs there.
So I think it's fairly close onexplosiveness, but I think Holani has
(39:42):
other things he does better to makehim a better, better overall back.
Adam (39:45):
All right.
Well, I, I…
They, we're watching two different playersbecause I, I don't think it's even close.
Like, I think Wright is muchmore explosive than Holani.
Holani is, is okay.
Like, he's a, he's a fine average NFLrunning back that will get you the three
yards if there's three yards there.
He'll get you- … the fiveyards if five yards there.
That's how I feel about Wright.
And he, it, it, and he'll catch, catchstuff out of the backfield, but he's
(40:07):
not gonna hit a 60-yard home run.
Like, that, that's not George Holani.
Like, it's not the George Holaniwe've seen anyways, as a Seahawk.
And then, you know, him in comparisonto Velus Jones, like, I, I, I
have a hard time with the widereceiver turned running back thing.
have never reallyseen it work out much.
(40:27):
And while Jones is probablythe fastest of all of them-
Clinton (40:30):
Yeah
…Adam: I don't see the
vision, I don't see the instincts.
he's a guy that bounces it constantly.
I am not a Velus Jonesguy, really at all.
Yeah.
I, I get it.
And I, and I'm not a hugelover of the, the wide receiver
turned running back either.
I, it's not l- not myfavorite thing there.
So, and look, Wright did, did himselfvery well tonight, so it's like I, I
(40:52):
could have my, my viewpoint on him.
I think he's- Sure … kind of a JAGin, in terms of what a running back is
in the NFL, but to make this roster,he's been serviceable, he's been good
when he, when he's gotten chances.
I g- look, I can't take it away from him.
When the guy's gotten touches,he has performed, so you know,
I c- I could eat, eat that crow.
E-
Adam (41:10):
exactly.
Yeah.
Clinton (41:11):
So it's, so, so that's, a- admitting that for sure.
So I, I still think he probablydoes make the roster, is
what a, what a, what I would see.
and again, we have no idea ifEmmanuel Wilson will be ready, and-
Adam (41:22):
Yeah, and also too, like, I,
I, I feel like I'm in the minority on
this opinion, but, Emmanuel Wilson andGeorge Holani are basically the same dude
Clinton (41:33):
I think Emmanuel- Like, like
Adam (41:34):
to me
Clinton (41:34):
Emmanuel Wilson's, you
know, his like yards per carry are
near elite, and when Jacobs wentdown and he went in, he was good.
Like, the Packers got derailedwhen Craft got hurt, right?
When the, the, he's, hewas, he was the glue.
He was the engine for that team.
When he went down, theywere just derailed.
but when Jacobs wentdown, Wilson did the job.
(41:57):
He was really quite good.
So we'll see.
But you know what?
You gotta be healthy, and he has not. Yeah.
He's, he's also not healthy right now.
So we'll see.
We'll see if he can get ready, and maybe he gets a few touches
as we head into Kansas City.
but I, if I had to predict rightnow, I think Wright has done enough
to make this roster, because hey, when he gets his touches, he- he's
at least productive and good enough.
Adam (42:19):
Yeah.
A- and at least initially, right?
Until Charbonnet is healthy in-
Clinton (42:24):
Yeah
…Adam: then, yeah, may- maybe
then he ends up getting moved down
to practice squad or something.
And when I'm, and I'm talking aboutWright, like I'm talking about him
as like running back three, right?
Like, I'm not saying like,"This guy needs to be a starter.
We need to put him out there.
He may even be better than Price."
Like, I'm not saying nothing like that
Yeah, no, I get it.
I think he's solidly running back fouron this roster currently, or, or five.
(42:48):
But, we have, Daniel saying,"Put Shaheed back at running back."
Mm-hmm.
We did it last year, and I don't- Put JSN
Adam (42:55):
in the backfield
a couple times too-
but he was catching passes from there.
Clinton (42:57):
Yeah, I mean, Shaheed is an
interesting change-up every now and
again where they'll just be like,"Hey, let's just student body left,
student body right, get to the edge,"c- because he's so darn fast.
Adam (43:08):
Mm-hmm.
Clinton (43:09):
And he's got good vision.
You know, Shaheed has,Shaheed has the vision-
Adam (43:13):
Mm-hmm
Clinton (43:13):
with this team.
I would…
I personally actually don't love givingShaheed running back touches, because
running backs get beat up in the NFL,and I wanna see Shaheed returning kicks,
I wanna see Shaheed getting behindsafeties deep, and I wanna see Shaheed
running safeties deep so JSN and otherscan eat, and Barner can eat all day long
because Shaheed's presence is reallyimportant to what Flurry wants to go do.
Adam (43:37):
Yeah.
I think the other guy, sinceyou brought up Barner, that we
didn't talk about enough in thisgame, I, I think it was Arroyo.
Like, we're, we're starting to see him popa little bit here and there- Yeah … and
get integrated in, and I think that'sreally awesome to see because,
as you put it, like, with Shaheed andthen possibly, you know, Horton being
back at some point, taking the topsoff defenses, having Arroyo working
(43:59):
underneath there with JSN and Barner andall that, when they, you know they're
gonna wanna be in some heavier personnelpackages, that starts to get exciting.
Clinton (44:06):
Yeah, I mean, look, two receptions, 50 yards,
he gets the big touchdown whichwas 36 yards on four targets.
Like you said, it's an absolute blownplay, which I'm sure Saleh's gonna be…
Very interesting, like nobody, no onedecided to cover him, but, he puts
certain stress on, on, linebackersor if he, depending on who- The mismatch
(44:27):
element is really, obvious, right?
And, and I think Flurry's gonna takeadvantage of that, so if we can get
a bit more Arroyo, it'll be very funand very intriguing, and, a bit
of a change-up from last year, too.
So a team can't just go back and lookat last year's stuff and game plan for
Arroyo being a more sincere part of thisoffense, 'cause that's not really on tape.
(44:51):
He really didn't get alot of chances last year.
Yeah.
so let's see.
NFL's smart.
I think the NFL evolves reallyquickly, and again, I, I've been
on the record, I'm not anti-Arroyo,I'm anti move tight ends in the NFL.
I just don't think they…
I think more often than not, there's alot more hype around the move tight end,
and there's not a lot of productivitybecause at the NFL level, the, you're
(45:16):
seeing more teams g- At least trying toemulate, be like, "Okay, we could play,
we could play a nickel, but we could playwith some, some guys that could really
travel and hit with these tight ends."
So, and I think the NFL's goingmore towards that way, which I think
is gonna make the move tight endseven a little bit less dep- a little
bit more depressed than it would be.
That's just my take on thetrends and what's going on.
(45:38):
With all that being said, look,I was not a huge fan of the pick
last year, and I'm really warmingup to what I see with Arroyo.
and this is also training campstuff and the mismatches that I
think Fleury can create with him.
Adam (45:51):
Yeah, for sure.
It'll be interesting to see as a wholeleague-wide what happens this year with,
the tight end position, becauseafter Sean McVay invented 13 personnels,
we all know- then, you know,I, I think you're gonna see a lot more
tight end usage, and we'll see if that, sweeps the league in the way that,
a lot of people seem to think.
So it'll be interesting.
Clinton (46:11):
One more topic I think is fun.
We got Sean Scotchman saying, "Ourfullbacks or fullback were quiet tonight."
Yeah.
We saw Lampey late, and Lampey had ahold, which I'm not sure was a hold.
We didn't get a great angle at it.
Adam (46:22):
Yeah
…Clinton: looked like, I,
I, I'm not sure if it was.
But I thought Brady Russell, look, I wasvery bummed when we lost Ouzts because I
think we lost a different type of fullbackwith a different type of size and explos-
explosiveness, 'cause he's 275 and he,and he actually jumps out the building.
He has power that these otherguys don't have that are at 250
who are not quite the athletes.
(46:43):
But I thought Brady Russell looked good.
I- and the, he, he early, with the firstcouple of drives where Fleury was cooking
his very most, I thought they wereusing Brady Russell quite effectively.
So maybe it was quiet, but quiet effectivefullback is still effective fullback.
Yeah, not a position that, you know, really jumps off the screen
(47:04):
a lot to, especially casual footballfans and, and that sort of thing.
Look, Brady puts his hat in there and,you know, gives it his best effort when
he gets in the hole and all that, but hedoesn't have the size and he's not gonna
be able to dig out linebackers and reallydo the job that way like maybe Ouzts could.
And that's something you'vebeen talking about for,
(47:26):
since the Ouzts injury, right?
Yeah.
And I, and I do think you're right,especially seeing him, a little
more with the starters, inthe first two preseason games.
But what Brady Russell doeshave is a background in the
tight end room as well, right?
Mm-hmm.
And we saw him have a catch in thisgame and nearly have another,
you know, as, as Locke was, scrambling around a little bit.
(47:47):
And I think that if you're gonna useBrady Russell as your starting fullback
on the regular this season, I think oneof the things that you're gonna have to
lean into a little bit is his abilityto g- catch the ball, a little more
like Ouzts than maybe like havinghim as like a Lorenzo Neal type- Yeah
just going down there andjust digging out linebackers.
Clinton (48:06):
I'd like to see that.
It'd be, it'd be a cool thing to-to adopt, if we're gonna get more
of the Shanahan-type stuff withFleury, some of that stuff
could be really, really effective.
The half orbits and things like that, that Juschek started doing, which
kind of came from the college game andactually got, got over to,- Yeah
to the West Coast, which we sawLampe actually do over in, what?
Northern Illinois.
all right.
(48:26):
So- You did.
Adam (48:27):
I didn't.
Clinton (48:27):
Okay.
Well, I did watch his highlights, and he does some of that
Adam (48:31):
stuff- Yeah … right?
Clinton (48:31):
So.
Okay.
and all right.
Look, we're heading into Kansas City, andthis is kind of a, a quick turnaround,
'cause it, I think Kansas City gameis, I think, earlier, this week
than obviously playing on Sunday nightthis week, with the Titans game.
what's…
If you had to say, hey, the,the one pos- p- take Jason
Myers out of it for a second.
We wanna see Jason Myers- Okay … putthe ball through the, through the
freaking uprights, and stop with theyips and pushing everything right.
(48:54):
So let's suspend that for a second.
Yeah.
What's the one last battle/main area, like I really wanna focus on this
as we head into the Chiefs game?
Adam (49:04):
Ooh, that's a good question.
I think, I, because we're not g- Idon't think we're gonna see the ones.
I, I, I really don't.
Clinton (49:12):
Mm, yeah.
I don't
Adam (49:13):
know.
So I, I would like to see Fosterput together a clean game.
I, I think that would be somethingthat would be really cool to see.
I'd like to see them maybe featureArroyo a little bit more, get the ball in
his hands and, and see what happens there.
Well- I feel pretty good aboutwhat we've seen out of some of the,
the line and stuff to this point.
is the, the twos anyways.
Clinton (49:35):
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
For sure.
Yeah.
The twos on both sides were good tonight.
You know?
Yeah.
They, they were, they were…
And sometimes dominant, right?
There was a, a stretch there wherethe defense was giving them absolutely
nothing, and again, it was, it was amuff punt that let them back in the game.
But you mentioned Arroyo.
I wanna go back to him for a second.
at this point, w- wouldn'tyou be okay if Arroyo didn't
(49:56):
take a snap against Kansas City?
Like, does he need to?
And just like let- Yeah, he's the
Adam (49:59):
prior, right?
Clinton (50:00):
Like let Venette,
Saubert, and others do the…
And I, I don't even want s- Imean, Saubert to me is a very
good blocking tight end, andI value blocking tight ends.
Mm-hmm.
But I mean, can't we just figureother dudes out there, than kind
of put him in bubble wrap with Barnerand say, "Hey, you two guys, y- you
know, just take your shirt off."
Not, not- Yeah … like this.
Take your pads off, you know?
And, and kind of enjoy, enjoy the game.
(50:22):
I think I'd rathersee that with Arroyo.
He's p- he's not going anywhere.
He's gonna be a, a factor this year, so-
Adam (50:28):
Yeah
…Clinton: I'd, I'd rather
put him on the shelf.
You're
probably right.
That's probably the smarter play.
that makes a lot of sense.
But when you…
You kind of framed the question, what was really going through my
mind, Clinton, is that, by thetime I got halfway through the third
quarter of this game, I was like, "Oh,I forget this happens every year."
Pre-season Week 1 comes along, I'mso fired up I can barely stand it
because I've been going througha football, you know, withdrawal
(50:49):
for the entire off-season.
Clinton (50:50):
Yeah.
Adam (50:51):
Love pre-season Week 1,
like really get into it, all that.
Then pre-season Week 2 rolls around, youget to watch, you know, some of your upper
tier players for a couple drives if you'relucky, and then, it devolves into
pre-season football by the second half.
And, I didn't wanna watch it.
Yeah.
I didn't wanna watch it.
I wa- I was so over.
I cannot wait for the regular season.
(51:11):
So what do I wanna see in KC?
no more injuries and, like r- moving on to week one.
We're on to week one.
Clinton (51:18):
Yeah.
We got a couple of good, comments here, too.
Michael Knight saying, "That's easy,"so answering the question I posed
saying Pl- "Jalen play well," andthen backing it up, Sean Scotchman
says, "Milroe play with the twos."
So hey- I
Adam (51:29):
think that would be interesting
…Clinton: you know, like, just flip it.
Let, let Milroe take the first halfwith the twos and, and see if it's, if
he could fare, you know, just farebetter than he did, than he did tonight.
I think the thing for me is stillwatching, I think now Haynes has
stacked a couple of good weeks in a row.
Now we lose Richmond, which sucks.
and just watching,watching the guards.
(51:50):
Watching them and be like, "Okay, who, who's gonna Even at this point, like, I
feel like you could, you know, you gottaplay some dudes, but you have enough guys
there where I think Haynes has actuallydone enough to be like, maybe just…
We can't lose another.
We just lost our second string left guard.
It sucks.
We don't wanna lose our secondstring right guard because
we're getting thin early.
(52:11):
But, that's the areaI'm gonna watch for sure.
Yeah.
I really like what I saw from Peely.
I'd be very happy ifthey bubble wrap Peely.
It's like, okay, you won the nose tackleposition, I value the nose tackle.
You, you don't need to play anymore.
And I'm looking around, I mean, Idon't know, Chris Paul played a really
good game, in my opinion, tonight.
And I guess the other place is just, again, you mentioned earlier, Fuller
(52:34):
had a couple of nice, nice breakups.
Couple of- Mm-hmm … coupleof gaffes, but played well.
Can Dansby still be effective?
And like, Deanthony Bell is now gonnabe squarely battling for a safety
position with Bud Clark's injury.
Yeah.
Clinton (52:48):
And, but he's, but they have
him out there late in the fourth quarter.
Late, late, late.
So it's like, that tells me the coachesare not just handing it over to him, and
there's still a real, real battle there.
So, kind of that battle for whatthe, the Bud Clark vacancy will
bring, I think will be one of themajor storylines of the week, too.
Adam (53:06):
Yeah.
It, it should be interesting, andwe'll see how the team adapts.
If there's one thing I'm s- completelyconfident in is Coach Mike's ability
to, figure out who he's gonna wannause there, and all of that, for sure.
so a couple people in the comments, you know, in respect to Milroe,
being like, "Well, maybe a full gameof Milroe," and I think that that
could be something positive as well.
(53:27):
I still think overall, if you look athis two games here in comparison to last
year, like, a lot of the comments I seeabout Milroe, like, "Oh, he looks lost.
He's slow," like, all this stuff, right?
Like yeah, that was very true last year.
I, I, I, I see overall improvement.
Are we a finished product?
No.
(53:47):
No.
Like, those two pickswere fricking terrible.
Like, they were, those are awful.
you gotta own those.
Yeah … but I, I do see some, some growth from Jalen, and it would
be cool to see him for a full game, and maybe get him with a higher quality
surrounding cast for at least a quarter
Clinton (54:06):
Yeah.
I think, I think that's,that feels about right.
And again, we might get a driveor two of Sam and the ones.
That's, it's possible that they'llgo out there and say, "Hey-"
I
mean- "… go,
go take a drive or two."
I'm, I'm also I'mvery okay if we don't.
I'm totally confidentin what the ones have.
I don't need to see JSN out there.
I don't need to see Barnard.
I don't need to see Sam.
(54:27):
In fact, I would vote not to,because the game means nothing,
and go get ready for the Patriots.
Well, that was fun, man.
We, it's a first half, I'lltake everything away from the first
half and then kind of suspend.
Second half, while it wasn't great andit was choppy, there were still moments
that, that brought me some delightand some really nice plays by individuals.
(54:47):
But the second half was justlike, to me, like, you, you
could, you could dump most of it.
Adam (54:52):
Yeah,
Clinton (54:52):
bad football.
Yeah.
It's, it's bad, bad football.
But what's not bad is, of course, we hadRyan911 coming in with a 999 Super Chat.
We had Got Zero Hawk coming inwith a $10 Super Chat, and we
had other folks like Chewy938,who's been a member for 34 months.
He actually said- Is that awesome?
Yeah, he came in and said,"Milroe was no good tonight.
I didn't get to honor this earlier.
Can we trade him for a DB?
(55:12):
Hope Bud Clark is okay."
Oh.
Bud Clark's not okay, and we're not,we're not trading Milroe, you
know, not this, not this off season.
But really good comments, really, really good stuff.
We had a lot of fun.
It's- I- it's, I just wanna see…
I mean, at this point, man, I, Ireally wanna see Seattle just get
to the New England game as healthyas they possibly can get there.
(55:34):
Yep.
And that's really, frankly, all that matters at this point.
We can't take more depth pieces.
And like you said, we didn't lose a queenoff the board, we didn't lose a rook off
the board, but dude, we're losing pawns.
Yeah.
And, and, and they matter in the,the full game, the full season.
And in some cases, maybe we're losingdudes that might have been even
(55:55):
more pawn, even more important thana, than a pawn if we're, you know,
continuing the chess analogy here.
So, let's get, let's get throughKansas City, stay healthy, and just
watch Fleury continue to find his waywith this offense because, again, the,
besides Myers, the biggest takeawayfor me was the beginning of the game,
(56:15):
I thought Fleury looked, and thenthe team looked really crisp, and
that to me is really encouraging.
Adam (56:21):
Yeah.
a- and just with the Myers thing, like, if you're not a Tin Cup fan, none
of the, my jokes make sense about it.
But, like- … he's gotta stop thinkingabout the doctor lady, and like,
we need to get him out of his head.
it, why it scares me so much, Clinton,is, the Shanks are like a virus.
They just come- Mm
out of nowhere, and you knowhow weird kickers are mentally.
(56:42):
So I wanna see him come out, I wanna seethe, you know, twos and threes come out,
and put a spanking on the Chiefs, Myerskick it right down the middle, end the
preseason with a dub, and be healthy, and go and kick the snot out of the
Patriots, who seem to think that they'reway better than they were last year.
Clinton (56:58):
Yeah.
I could get behind allthat, and I think with that-
Adam (57:01):
There's only
one thing left to say
Clinton (57:03):
Go Hawks.
Adam (57:04):
Go Hawks.
