NHL Transactions:

Michael Grabnerwas traded to the New Jersey Devils by the New York Rangers on Thursday. It is the first trade made between the Metropolitan Division rivals since New Jersey entered the NHL in 1982-83. The 30-year-old forward is in the final season of a two-year contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1. New York will receive defenseman prospect Yegor Rykov and a second-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. Grabner has 31 points (25 goals, six assists) in 59 games this season. He was scratched from a 3-1 loss at the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday. He has 244 points (156 goals, 88 assists) in 532 games during nine NHL seasons with the Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Islanders and Vancouver Canucks. He has scored at least 20 goals four times. Rykov, 20, was a fifth-round pick (No. 132) in the 2016 NHL Draft. He is playing in the Kontinental Hockey League this season.

Frank Vatranowas traded to the Florida Panthers by the Boston Bruins on Thursday. Boston received a third-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. Vatrano, a 23-year-old forward, scored two goals in 25 games with the Bruins this season. He has not played in five of the past six games because of a lower-body injury and has been a healthy scratch most of the season. Signed to an entry-level contract as a free agent by the Bruins on March 13, 2015, Vatrano has 31 points (20 goals, 11 assists) in 108 NHL games.

Forward Tobias Riederand goalie Scott Wedgewood were traded to the Los Angeles Kings by the Arizona Coyotes for goalie Darcy Kuemper on Wednesday. Rieder had 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 58 games with the Coyotes this season after signing a two-year contract with Arizona on Oct. 4, 2016. He can become a restricted free agent July 1. Rieder had 111 points (51 goals, 60 assists) in 292 games with the Coyotes. The Coyotes signed Kuemper to a two-year contract Thursday. He could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. Kuemper was 10-1-3 with a 2.10 GAA, a .932 save percentage and three shutouts in 19 games backing up Jonathan Quick for the Kings this season.

Jakub Jerabekwas traded to the Washington Capitals by the Montreal Canadiens for a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft on Wednesday. The 26-year-old rookie defenseman from the Czech Republic has four points (one goal, three assists) in 25 NHL games. He signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Canadiens on May 1, 2017, and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Nick Holdenwas traded to the Boston Bruins by the New York Rangers on Tuesday. The Bruins bolstered their depth by sending their third-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft and 24-year-old minor-league defenseman Rob O'Gara for Holden, a lefty defenseman who is 30 years old and had 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 55 games with the Rangers this season. Holden had 46 points (14 goals, 32 assists) in 135 games with the Rangers after they acquired him in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche on June 25, 2016. He has 107 points (35 goals, 72 assists) in 356 NHL games and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

Erik Gudbransonsigned a three-year, $12 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. The contract has an average annual value of $4 million. The 26-year-old defenseman could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. Gudbranson has four points (two goals, two assists) in 41 games this season, and 53 points (14 goals, 39 assists) in 380 NHL games with the Florida Panthers and Canucks.

Goalie Petr Mrazekwas traded to the Philadelphia Flyers by the Detroit Red Wings on Monday for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft and a conditional third-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. Mrazek, 26, is 8-7-3 with a 2.89 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 22 games (18 starts) this season. In the past week, the Flyers lost their top two goalies, Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth, to injury. Alex Lyon, who was recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League after Elliott was injured during a shootout at the Arizona Coyotes on Feb. 10, relieved Neuvirth against the Rangers. He made 25 saves on 26 shots for his first NHL victory, but it was the fourth game in the League for the 25-year-old rookie. "Our players have worked hard for a long time and I didn't think it was fair to not have a proven NHL goaltender for this team," Hextall said. "That's the reason we acted."

Defenseman Michal Kempnywas traded to the Washington Capitals on Monday by the Chicago Blackhawks for a conditional third-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. Kempny, an undrafted free agent who agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Blackhawks on May 24, 2016, has 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) in 81 NHL games. He has seven points (one goal, six assists) and is plus-13 in 31 games this season. Chicago will receive the higher of Washington's own third-round draft choice or the third-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Washington acquired the Toronto draft pick from the New Jersey Devils as part of the Marcus Johansson trade on July 2, 2017.

Mikael Backlundsigned a six-year, $32.1 million contract with the Calgary Flames on Friday. It has an average annual value of $5.35 million. The 28-year-old forward could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. Backlund has 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) in 58 games this season, and 262 points (104 goals, 158 assists) in 519 games with Calgary, which selected him with the No. 24 pick in the 2007 NHL Draft.

Nikita Soshnikovwas traded to the St. Louis Blues by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday for a fourth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. The 24-year-old forward had no points in three games with the Maple Leafs this season. He has 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 19 games with Toronto of the American Hockey League. The Blues said Soshnikov will report to St. Louis in 7-10 days after he has attained a United States visa and will be added to the roster when he is cleared by doctors. The Maple Leafs were at the maximum number of NHL contracts (50) before the trade. Signed by the Maple Leafs to a three-year, entry-level contract March 20, 2015, Soshnikov has 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 70 NHL games.

Josh Baileyagreed to terms with the New York Islanders on a six-year contract Friday. Financial terms were not disclosed.com and TSN are reporting $5M per year. The 28-year-old forward is in the final season of a five-year contract and could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. Bailey has 62 points (15 goals, 47 assists) in 58 games this season; he's third on the Islanders in scoring, three points behind Mathew Barzal and two behind John Tavares. Bailey has set an NHL career high in points and assists and is one goal from his career high, set in 2009-10. He also played in the NHL All-Star Game for the first time this season.

Injuries:

Goaltender Carey Priceof the Montreal Canadiens will be out indefinitely because of a concussion. The 30-year-old goalie was injured Tuesday when he was struck in the mask on a shot by Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere in the second period of a 3-2 overtime loss. Price remained in the game. Price, who is 15-22-6 with a 2.98 goals-against average and .904 save percentage, is 2-8-4 with an .889 save percentage in his past 14 games. He missed 10 games from Nov. 4-22 with a lower-body injury. "It's been diagnosed as a concussion," Canadiens coach Claude Julien said Thursday. "He'll continue to get evaluated on a daily basis. You never know with concussions, it could be short term, it could be long term. We'll see." Niemi/Lindgren will be the goalies until Price returns.

Shea Weber will miss the rest of the season for the Montreal Canadiens because of a foot injury that requires surgery. The 32-year-old defenseman has a tendon tear in his left foot. He has missed the past 26 games and last played Dec. 16 against the Ottawa Senators. He was dealing with the injury earlier in the season, missing six games from Nov. 21-30. Weber was shut down from skating earlier this week and coach Claude Julien said he wouldn't return to the lineup until he was 100 percent. Weber is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of training camp next season, Canadiens surgeon Dr. Paul Martineau said. The length of his recovery will be determined following the surgery. Weber, who was acquired from the Nashville Predators in a trade for defenseman K. Subban on June 29, 2016, has 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in 26 games this season.

Anders Bjorkwill miss the remainder of the season for the Boston Bruins after having surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday. The 21-year-old rookie forward missed the past 10 games after he was injured in the first period of a 3-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Jan. 30. He is expected to need six months to recover. Selected by Boston in the fifth round (No. 146) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Bjork had 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 30 games this season.

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Jake McCabewill miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. McCabe is scheduled to have surgery and the estimated recovery time is 4-6 months. He had thumb surgery Feb. 7. McCabe left in the second period of a 4-3 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks at KeyBank Center on Feb. 6. He has 12 points (three goals, nine assists) and averages 19:30 of ice time in 53 games this season.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmondswill be out 2-3 weeks with an upper-body injury. Simmonds was injured during a 7-4 win against the New York Rangers on Sunday. Simmonds has 37 points (20 goals, 17 assists), including four game-winning goals, in 59 games this season. It's the fifth straight season he's scored at least 20 goals. He ranks fifth in the NHL with 10 power-play goals.

Defensemen Erik Johnsonand Anton Lindholm each is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury, Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Monday. They were injured in a 4-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. Lindholm left with 3:40 remaining in the second period, and Johnson needed to be helped off the ice at 1:59 of the third. Johnson, 29, is Colorado's most experienced defenseman and averages 25:43 of ice time per game. He has 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) in 56 games. Lindholm, a 23-year-old rookie, has three assists in 43 games.

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Nick Folignois expected to miss 1-2 weeks because of a lower-body injury sustained Sunday. Foligno left a 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins at Nationwide Arena late in the second period and did not return after playing one shift in the third. Forward Cam Atkinson said after the game it appeared Penguins forward Conor Sheary's skate made contact with Foligno. "It looked like the skate went right through his sock," Atkinson told The Athletic. "It didn't cut him, but I'm not sure what the result is with that. Hopefully not too bad, but that's the way it is right now." Foligno has 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in 59 games for the Blue Jackets (29-25-5, 63 points)

Philadelphia Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirthsustained a lower-body injury in the first period and didn't return for the second against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Neuvirth played the entire first period and made 11 saves on 14 shots. He was replaced by Alex Lyon. The Flyers are already playing without goalie Brian Elliott, who had surgery on a core muscle injury Tuesday and was ruled out 5-6 weeks. Elliott is 21-11-7 with a 2.72 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in 41 games (40 starts).

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthewsis day to day with a shoulder injury. Matthews left with 1:06 remaining in the third period of the Maple Leafs' 4-3 shootout win against the New York Islanders at Air Canada Centre on Thursday. He scored with 3:29 remaining to tie the game 3-3. Matthews leads Toronto in scoring with 50 points (28 goals, 22 assists) in 53 games. He won the Calder Trophy as the NHL's top rookie last season with 69 points (40 goals, 29 assists) after the Maple Leafs selected him with the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Suspensions/Fines:

New Jersey Devils forward Miles Woodhas been suspended for two games, without pay, for boarding Tampa Bay Lightning forward Vladislav Namestnikov during NHL Game No. 898 in Tampa on Saturday, Feb. 17, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced Sunday. The incident occurred at 4:54 of the second period. Wood was assessed minor penalties for boarding and roughing on the play. Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Wood will forfeit $9,946.24.

Seattle will begin a season ticket drive in its effort to become an NHL expansion team. "Starting on March 1 at 10 a.m., you will be able to make your deposit for season tickets," Mayor Jenny Durkan wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. Las Vegas started its season ticket drive Feb. 10, 2015. It was awarded an NHL team June 22, 2016.

New Jersey Devils center Nico Hischier, Arizona Coyotes goaltender Antti Raanta and Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending Feb. 18. Hischier scored in all four of his appearances, sharing the League lead with four goals and ranking second overall with 4-3-7 to power the Devils (31-20-8, 70 points) to a perfect week. Raanta stopped 123 of the 126 shots he faced, compiling a 3-0-0 record with a 0.90 goals-against average, .976 save percentage and one shutout in four appearances to lift the Coyotes (17-32-10, 44 points) to their first four-game winning streak since Jan. 4-12, 2016 (also 4-0-0). Scheifele ranked third in the NHL with 3-4-7 in three contests to propel the Jets (35-15-9, 79 points) to a perfect week and the top of the Central Division standings.

Honors/Milestones:

Pekka Rinnemade 33 saves for his 300th NHL win, and the Nashville Predators defeated the San Jose Sharks 7-1 at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday. Rinne became the 34th goaltender in NHL history to reach the milestone. He is 300-164-66 in 12 seasons, all with Nashville.

New Jersey Devils to retire Patrik Elias's No. 26 prior to their game Sat against the New York Islanders (6:15 p.m. ET; MSG+, MSG+ 2, NHL.TV). He finished his NHL career in 2015-16 as the Devils leader in goals (408), assists (617), points (1,025), power-play goals (113), power-play points (333) and game-winning goals (80). He also ranks first in Stanley Cup Playoff goals (45), assists (80), points (125), power-play goals (21) and power-play points (52)

Jean Ratelle’s number 19 will be retired by the Rangers on Sunday in a ceremony before their game against the Detroit Red Wings (7:30 p.m. ET; NHLN, MSG, FS-D, NHL.TV). Using a thick, flat-bladed stick that he would curve only very slightly late in his career, the silky playmaker and pinpoint passer scored 817 of his 1,267 points (336 goals, 481 assists) for the Rangers. He's second on New York's all-time goal list, third in assists and points, and sixth in games played. Ratelle finished his career in Boston, playing 419 games for the Bruins from 1975-81 following the stunning trade that sent him and defensemen Brad Park and Joe Zanussi for center Phil Esposito and defenseman Carol Vadnais. Ratelle won the Lady Byng Trophy as the NHL's most gentlemanly player in 1972 and 1976. He never had a fighting major and he's the only player in NHL history to score more than 1,200 points and have fewer than 300 penalty minutes. Ratelle's 276 penalty minutes translate to an average of one minute for every 4.6 NHL games he played. Ratelle's number will be the ninth retired by the Rangers; the others are his lifelong friend and former linemate Gilbert (No. 7); goalies Ed Giacomin (1) and Mike Richter (35); defensemen Brian Leetch (2) and Harry Howell (3); and forwards Mark Messier (11), and Andy Bathgate and Adam Graves (9).

The Vegas Golden Knights set an NHL record for points by a team in its inaugural season when they defeated the Calgary Flames 7-3 at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday. The Golden Knights (40-16-4, 84 points) passed the 1993-94 Florida Panthers, who had 83 points in 84 games. They are one point ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning atop the NHL standings and three ahead of the Nashville Predators for first in the Western Conference.

Patrick Kanerecorded the 500th assist of his NHL career in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Washington Capitals. The Chicago Blackhawks forward assisted on Artem Anisimov's power-play goal in the second period to accomplish the milestone. Kane is the sixth player to collect 500 assists with the Blackhawks.

Trotz never played professionally, but he's turned out to be a pretty good coach. He'll be behind the Capitals' bench for his 1,500th NHL game when Washington plays the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET; WGN, NBCSWA, NHL.TV). Trotz, 55, will become the fifth coach in NHL history to reach the milestone, joining Hockey Hall of Famers Scotty Bowman (2,141 games) and Al Arbour (1,607), as well as Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville (1,597) and Dallas Stars coach Ken Hitchcock (1,511). Hitchcock coached in his 1,500th game against the Detroit Red Wings on Jan. 16.
