Aaron Dellsigned a two-year contract with the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday. The 28-year-old goalie could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He is 14-5-3 with a 2.71 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in 25 games (20 starts) this season. Dell is 25-11-4 with a 2.39 GAA and .920 save percentage in 45 games for the Sharks, who signed him as a free agent March 4, 2015.

Patric Hornqvistsigned a five-year, $26.5 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday. The contract has an average annual value of $5.3 million. Hornqvist could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He has 32 points (17 goals, 15 assists) in 51 games this season.

Johnny Oduyawas claimed on waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers from the Ottawa Senators on Monday. The 36-year-old defenseman had eight points (four goals, four assists) in 51 games with Ottawa this season. He was plus-2 in 17:12 of ice time per game. Oduya has 190 points (41 goals, 149 assists) in 849 NHL games with the New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers, Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets, Dallas Stars and Senators. He has 28 points (six goals, 26 assists) in 106 Stanley Cup Playoff games and was part of the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup championship teams in 2013 and 2015.

Chris Stewartwas claimed on waivers from the Calgary Flames from the Minnesota Wild. The 30-year-old forward has 13 points (nine goals, four assists) in 47 games this season. Selected by the Colorado Avalanche with the No. 18 pick of the 2006 NHL Draft, Stewart has 318 points (159 goals, 159 assists) in 645 NHL games with the Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres, Anaheim Ducks and Wild.

Mike Fishersigned a one-year, $1 million contract with the Nashville Predators for the remainder of the season Monday. The 37-year-old forward announced Jan. 31 he was coming out of retirement to join the Predators. He has been practicing with the team since Feb. 12.

Cody Goloubef signed with the Calgary Flames on Sunday for the remainder of the 2017-18 season. The one-year contract is worth $650,000. The 28-year-old defenseman was placed on waivers after signing the contract and, if he clears, will be sent to Stockton of the American Hockey League. However he would be eligible to be called up by the Flames at any point and could play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Goloubef recently played for Canada in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics He had two assists in six games as the Canadians won a bronze medal. Selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round (No. 37) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Goloubef has played 129 NHL regular-season games for the Blue Jackets and Colorado Avalanche, and has 23 points (two goals, 21 assists). This season with Stockton, Goloubef had 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 34 games.

Brian Gionta signed a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins on Sunday, making him eligible to participate in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 39-year-old forward signed for $700,000. Gionta had not been playing in the NHL this season, but did serve as captain for the United States men's hockey team at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. He played in all five games for the United States, which was eliminated by the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals. Gionta last played in the NHL in 2016-17 with the Buffalo Sabres, when he had 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists) in 82 games. He has 588 points (289 goals, 299 assists) in 1,006 regular-season games in 15 seasons with the Sabres, Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils. He has 68 points (32 goals, 36 assists) in 112 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He was selected by the Devils in the third round (No. 82) of the 1998 NHL Draft.

Injuries:

Loui Erikssonof the Vancouver Canucks will miss the rest of the season with a fractured rib. The forward left late in the third period of a 3-1 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday after a hit from Coyotes center Max Domi. He has 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) in 50 games this season and 47 points (21 goals, 26 assists) in 115 games with the Canucks. Eriksson, 32, signed a six-year contract July 1, 2016.

Patrice Bergeron, the top-line center for the Boston Bruins and a candidate for the 2018 Hart Trophy as NHL most valuable player, is out indefinitely with a fractured right foot. Bergeron, who was injured blocking a shot during the first period against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Josh Andersonwill be out four weeks for the Columbus Blue Jackets because of a sprained knee. The forward was injured during a 5-1 home win against the Washington Capitals on Monday. He was able to finish the game and was plus-1 in 17:41. The 23-year-old is tied with Artemi Panarin for the Blue Jackets lead with 18 goals in 61 games. Anderson has 29 points.

Matt Murraywill be out indefinitely with a concussion, Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said Tuesday. The goalie was diagnosed Tuesday morning after first being evaluated following practice Monday, which the 23-year-old left early after taking a puck to the head on a shot by defenseman Olli Maatta. Rookie goalie Casey DeSmith is expected to start Tuesday with Tristan Jarry backing up. Sullivan said he's comfortable moving forward with DeSmith, 26, and Jarry, 22, for the time being. Jarry is 10-4-2 with a 2.58 GAA and .916 save percentage in 20 games this season. He allowed four goals on 16 shots in a 6-5 loss to the Florida Panthers on Saturday. DeSmith is 3-3-0 with a 2.23 GAA and .926 save percentage in seven games (five starts) this season.

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthewsis expected to be out at least 10 days because of a shoulder injury. "We always tell you day to day, and that usually means 10 and we go from there," Toronto coach Mike Babcock said Saturday. "As fast as we can get him back and ready to play and healthy, that's what we'll do." Matthews left with 1:06 remaining in the third period of a 4-3 shootout win against the New York Islanders at Air Canada Centre on Thursday. He scored with 3:29 remaining to tie the game 3-3. Matthews led the Maple Leafs with 50 points (28 goals, 22 assists) in 53 games before he was injured. He missed 10 games earlier this season because of injuries. On Nov. 8, he sustained an upper-body injury and missed four games. On Dec. 9, Matthews collided with teammate Morgan Rielly in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and missed the next six games with a concussion. Matthews won the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year last season with 69 points (40 goals, 29 assists) after the Maple Leafs selected him with the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Charlie McAvoywill miss at least four weeks with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, the Boston Bruins said Tuesday. The rookie defenseman was injured during the first period of the Bruins' 2-1 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. McAvoy left 37 seconds into the game after a hit by Montreal forward Brendan Gallagher. He hobbled off the ice and didn't return. The Bruins had Brandon Carlo in McAvoy's spot alongside Chara at the morning skate Tuesday. The other pairs were Torey Krug and Nick Holden, and Kevan Miller with Matt Grzelcyk. The Bruins also are missing forward Patrice Bergeron and goaltender Tuukka Rask. Bergeron has a fractured right foot sustained against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 24 and is scheduled to be re-evaluated next week. Rask has a lower-body injury and won't play against the Detroit Red Wings at TD Garden on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVAS, NESN, NHL.TV).

Brock Boesercould miss the remainder of the regular season after injuring his back against the New York Islanders, the Vancouver Canucks said Tuesday. Boeser left Rogers Arena on a stretcher and was sent to a hospital after a collision with 27 seconds left in the third period of the Canucks' 4-3 overtime win on Monday. The Canucks said his recovery is expected to take 4-6 weeks. Boeser, a 21-year-old forward who leads all NHL rookies with 29 goals, had to be helped off the ice after he fell into an open gate at the players bench after trying to make a hit on Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck. Boeser appeared to hit his lower back on the edge of the gate just above his left hip; he was down on the ice for several minutes before being helped off. He was not putting any weight on his left leg. The Canucks said he was diagnosed with a soft-tissue injury and a nonstructural, non-displaced fracture of the transverse process in his lower back. He was allowed to go home a few hours after the game.

Dallas Stars goalie Ben Bishopwill miss at least two games because of a lower-body injury. Bishop left after the first period of a 3-2 overtime loss against the Ottawa Senators at American Airlines Center on Monday. Stars defenseman Dan Hamhuis fell into Bishop midway through the first after getting his legs tangled in the stick of Senators forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau.

Max Paciorettycould miss the rest of the regular season for the Montreal Canadiens because of a knee injury. The forward was injured in a 6-3 win against the New York Islanders on Friday and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. If he returns four weeks from Monday, he could play in Montreal's final three regular-season games. Pacioretty, 29, has 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 64 games this season. The Montreal captain has 448 points (226 goals, 222 assists) in 626 NHL games, including at least 30 goals in each of the past four seasons (2013-17).

Jay Bouwmeesterwill miss the remainder of the season for the St. Louis Blues because of an injury to his left hip. The defenseman will have surgery and is expected to need 4-6 months to recover. Bouwmeester missed nine games after he injured his hip Dec. 10 against the Buffalo Sabres, but the 34-year-old returned to play after receiving an injection rather than opting for surgery at the time. Bouwmeester missed the first 21 games of the season with a fractured ankle after blocking a shot in training camp. He returned Nov. 21 against the Edmonton Oilers. Bouwmeester has seven points (two goals, five assists) in 35 games this season.

Luke Kuninof the Minnesota Wild will miss the remainder of the season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The 20-year-old forward was injured during a 4-1 loss against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. He is expected to have surgery in the coming weeks and could miss training camp next season; the expected recovery time is approximately seven months. Selected by Minnesota in the first round (No. 15) in the 2016 NHL Draft, Kunin has four points (two goals, two assists) in 19 games this season.

Vancouver Canucks forward Sven Baertschihas a separated shoulder and is likely to miss the rest of the season, coach Travis Green said Sunday. Baertschi was injured when he collided with Nashville Predators defenseman Alexei Emelin in the second period of a 4-3 overtime loss at Rogers Arena on Friday. The 25-year-old forward has 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists) in 53 games this season. He missed 11 games with a broken jaw when he was hit by a clearing attempt from Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano on Dec. 9.

Well, Seattle fans have spoken loud and clear as to whether they want NHL hockey in their city. Seattle, which began a season ticket drive Thursday in its effort to become an NHL expansion team, received 10,000 deposits in 12 minutes and about 25,000 in total. The ownership group applied to the NHL for an expansion team on Feb. 13. If Seattle is awarded an NHL team, its owners expect to announce final ticket prices in 2019. The group, led by Jerry Bruckheimer, a Hollywood producer, David Bonderman, a private equity CEO, and Tim Leiweke, CEO of Oak View Group, was authorized Dec. 7 to file an application for expansion by the NHL Board of Governors. It paid a $10 million application fee, Sportsnet reported. "Shell-shocked is best way to put it," Leiweke told TSN about the amount of deposits. "We sold 10,000 season tickets in 12 minutes and we're just short of 25,000 so I guess the fans have spoken. The fans in Seattle have made it a resounding vote which is they are ready for the National Hockey League. The Vancouver Canucks will host the 2019 NHL Draft at Rogers Arena, the National Hockey League, Canucks and City of Vancouver announced today. The 2019 NHL Draft will help the Canucks launch their 50th season in the NHL in 2019-20, which will include other special events to commemorate their historic milestone. Vancouver also will play host to the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, where some of the top draft-eligible prospects will get a chance to play in Rogers Arena, where they hope to hear their name called on stage in June of 2019. The 2019 NHL Draft will be held over two days: Friday, June 21 (Round 1) and Saturday, June 22 (Rounds 2-7). NHL club executives, scouts and coaches will be present on the NHL Draft floor while thousands of fans and hundreds of media are expected to attend.

Minnesota Wild center Eric Staal, Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkinand Vegas Golden Knights right wing Reilly Smith have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the month of February. Staal paced the NHL with 13-8-21 in 13 games to propel the Wild (36-20-7, 79 points) to a 9-2-2 February and into third place in the Central Division. Malkin placed third in the NHL in both goals (10) and points (21) to power the Penguins (36-24-4, 76 points) to an 8-3-1 February. Smith ranked fourth in the NHL with 8-12-20 in 14 games as the Golden Knights (41-17-5, 87 points) went 8-5-1 in February to maintain first place in the Pacific Division.

Tampa Bay Lightning center Yanni Gourde, who led all rookies with 5-11-16 in 14 games, has been named the NHL's Rookie of the Month for February. Gourde edged New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal (2-14-16 in 12 GP), Winnipeg Jets left wing Kyle Connor (6-5-11 in 12 GP), New Jersey Devils center Nico Hischier (5-6-11 in 14 GP) and Vancouver Canucks right wing Brock Boeser (5 5-10 in 13 GP) for the honor.

Minnesota Wild center Eric Staal, Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne and Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending Feb. 25. Staal paced the NHL with 4-3-7 in four games to propel the Wild (35-20-7, 77 points) to a perfect week and into third place in the Central Division. Rinne went 3-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, .970 save percentage and one shutout to lift the Predators (38-14-9, 85 points) back atop the Central Division standings. Getzlaf placed second in the NHL with 2-5-7 in four outings as the Ducks (31‑21-12, 74 points) earned five of a possible eight standings points to maintain third place in the Pacific Division.

Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon, Winnipeg Jets right wing Patrik Laine and Florida Panthers center Aleksander Barkov have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending March 4. MacKinnon led the NHL in goals (t-5), assists (6) and points (11) to propel the Avalanche (35-24-6, 76 points) to a 3-0-1 week and within one point of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Laine recorded multiple points in all three of his appearances, ranking third in the NHL with 4-3-7 to lift the Jets (39-17-9, 87 points) to a pair of victories. Barkov shared the League lead with five goals in four games (5-1-6) as the Panthers (32-25-6, 70 points) extended their winning streak to six contests and moved within one point of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

David Poile set the record for wins by an NHL general manager when the Nashville Predators defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on Thursday. Poile, who has been Predators GM since their inaugural season in 1998-99, got his 1,320th win, passing Glen Sather for the most in NHL history. The first trade David Poile made as an NHL general manager came 10 days after he was hired by the Washington Capitals on Aug. 30, 1982. Wayne: Try hockey for free day was last Saturday!! http://www.tryhockeyforfree.com/ The hockey team from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School practiced at BB&T Center, home of the Florida Panthers, and it even included a special surprise guest: The Stanley Cup. The Stoneman Douglas team recently won the Florida state title just 11 days after a tragic mass shooting at their school in Parkland, Florida, which killed 17 people. Since the horrible event, there's been an outpouring of kindness toward the students. The Florida Panthers, who play in nearby Sunrise, Florida, invited the hockey team to practice at their home arena.
