April 9th marks the traditionally accepted anniversary of Timur's birth on April 9th, 1336.  In this episode we talk about the state of Transoxiana upon the birth of Timur.  This is where it all begins. Although he will one day rule the world, Timur's early story is full of humiliation. This is the story of his first defeat. In 1361 Khan Tughlugh Timur of the Moghuls invaded Transoxiana for a second time. And amid the political chaos of the invasion, Timur finds himself in an interesting situation. Probably between 1363 and 1365, Timur received the life-altering wounds that would lead to him often being remembered as "Timur the Lame" or "Tamerlane." Timur and his brother-in-law Amir Husayn begin their invasion of Transoxiana circa 1364. They are met with immediate Moghul resistance.
