Yes, Dorothy, that it was a tornado that hit New
Jersey Town on Long Island. Battles back against the opening
of a Muslim boarding school. There's been another legionnaire's death
on the East side mayor. Mom, Donnie can't stop talking
about bb nets and Yahoo and how did those illegal
immigrants really end up on the voter rolls in the

Garden State. All right, let's get into it. At five
ZHO four. You two confirmed tornadoes in New Jersey yesterday.
One touchdown in Stanhope, Sussex County. The other touchdown Parsipeny,
Troy Hills, that's in Morris County. National Weather Service gonna
send survey crews to those areas today to investigate determine
their ratings. Stanhope police say most of the damage there

was contained to major roadways. No injuries reported in connection
to the tornado. But it was fright day for everybody.

All I heard was the wind.

The wind just came out of nowhere and it just
was like going everywhere.

I was inside and I just saw the storm that
take off, and it was crazy.

The wind was like picking up, came out of nowhere.

The other tornado par Sipenny, Troy's Hills. The Morris County
Office of Emergency Management, their nine to one one operators
actually watched this twist.

The operators were all actually looking out the window at
the time and so did see the rotation.

We're certainly grateful that we didn't have type of volume
that we had on the laststorms.

Yes, so there was damage to some homes, but again
no injuries, that's the good news. And then for everybody else,
it was intense winds, flash flooding in Dover. Over in
New Jersey, drovers drivers found themselves suddenly surrounded by high
water yesterday.

Cars were starting to pull under the underpaths and we
realized something was wrong.
Speaker 9 (02:43):
We saw those trees down on top of those cars
and slowed down.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Yeah, one of those funny moments. The CBS News senior
transportation correspondent, he was on a plane coming to Newark, Liberty,
but it got diverted because of the tornado warnings yesterday.
So we reported from the air.

Bruising day for flyers trying to get in and out
of the Northeast. My flight to Newark has diverted to Philadelphia,
in part, the captain says, because the Newark Tower was
evacuated because of a potential tornado.

Yeah, so flash flooding, severe thunderstorms. They left two cars
completely submerged in floodwaters up in West yesterday. This was
underneath the Palmer Avenue overpass for the Bronx River Parkway,
which seems to always get flooded, even if it's just
a mild amount of rain. But this was a lot
in a very short period of time.
Speaker 9 (03:30):
I figured, like, this exact place is going to be
flooded and everything.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
I saw some of the rubble on the roads and everything.
Oh it's been heck. They kind of expected it with
like you know, the heavy rain.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Bronx River swelled, pasted, its banks, wiled large portions of
the roadway, the parkway, it seems to evolve, sort of
moved away, left garbage. Of course, two cars trapped amid
that they were. They saw the water just heading downstream
faster than the traffic could escape to higher ground. Then
and Yonkers, they were hit pretty hard yesterday as well.

In fact, people were commenting about how hard the rain
was falling. Well, again, just this short thing. This is
what most people saw a very short period of time,
really hard rain, really intense winds, And of course they
were worried about a tornado because we were all getting
those tornado warnings yesterday.

I couldn't even see out. The window was so heavy,
gutters were overflowing.
Speaker 6 (04:20):
We were driving it and we could barely say, could
barely say around eleven thirty right around there.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
In that same neighborhood. Some people who use a sump
pump in their basement were hoping that it would you
help them out yesterday amid the flood waters. But then
the power went out. So you need power to run something.
Speaker 12 (04:37):
If you have a some pump, it's not going to
work because it needs power to you know, have a
some pump work.
Speaker 13 (04:42):
And so unless you have a generator, you're not going
to have any power.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Now we're seeing some scattered power outages across the Try State.
No major numbers coming in, but there are some people
who lost it yesterday waiting for it to come back on.
And then when we look at the totals of rain
across the Try State, you realize how affected these towns were.
Some of the small ones. Terrytown got five inches of
rain yesterday. Central Park we didn't even get an inch

of rain. We thought we were going to get hit bad.
We did not. But portions of Queen's got a fair amount.
And in New Jersey and some of those places that
were hit board, tornadoes and Stanhope three inches of rain
in Sparta. Three inches of rain. Of course, today will
be a day to clean up the muddy mess that
is left behind. WABC News Time five ten. A queen's

mom found stabbed to death early yesterday. Her husband's body
was found hanging from a tree in a nearby park,
and wood is suspected to be a murder suicide. Thirty
four year old Mary Golden was found stabbed in the
back at her home on forty first Street, right near
Nineteenth Avenue in Astoria. This was about one o'clock yesterday morning.

And then about six hours later, her husband, Joseph Aziato,
was discovered hanging from a tree in nearby Astoria Park.
The couple left behind an eleven month boy. Eleven month
old boy. He was recovered by one of Golding's friends
after Azorado called her and confessed to the killing. And

the neighborhood of course rocked by this.

We don't really know the people over there, but it's
so sad to hear, you know that, It's very tragic.

Yeah, an employee at a neighboring autobody shop and Astoria
says Golding and Azorado had just moved to their basement
apartment from Pennsylvania about two months ago, but they say
Azorado quickly had developed a reputation in the neighborhood for
being crazy. In fact, they recalled an instance where Azorado
had physically fought with a REPO man who was trying
to take their car away. Five to eleven. Let's go overseas.

President Trump says Iran desperately wants to meet, even as
the US and Iran intensified their attacks overnight.

One of the first things we did early in the administration,
they would have a new career weapon, and you wouldn't

Yeah. This comes as the US has conducted strikes on

up with a deal to stop this thing before it
really continues to escalate. And then back here in the US,
you have the Secretary of War Pete Hegseth testifying yesterday
about Iran war funding before the Sunate. He says they

He says it's critical to America's military readiness across the board.

There was a back and forth between him and senators
in Congress yesterday, one of them Dick Durbin. Here's Dick

The late South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham will be honored
at a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda next Tuesday after

recent days. Now, McConnell had told a reporter recently that

staff there was confronted about those statements, they said they
didn't have any comment on when McConnell may return. But
they've done nothing to end this drip of whispers that
some people, well, the conspiracy theories are and maybe they're true.

and the staff is covering it up. Staff also refused

goes on. Amid the cyclosporiasis outbreak, there are lawsuits being
filed alleging food poisoning. This is sometimes people call it
explosive diarrhea. Legal columnist Jenna Green says a liability laws
give plaintiffs an advantage in cases against some of these

companies as they get ready to sue people who got sick.

The plantiffs generally don't have to prove wrongdoing. They don't
have to prove that the farmer or the manufacturer or
the restaurant acted carelessly or intended harm, or even that

and people with disabilities at a nursing homes. He calls

a Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three young children.

Lindsey Clancy pleaded not guilty to three murder charges in
connection to the deaths of her five year old daughter,
three year old son, and infants. First Responders found the
children dead after responding to a nine one one call
from her husband in twenty twenty three saying she had
attempted suicide. That attempt left Clancy paralyzed. She appeared in

court Monday in a wheelchair.

Her trial expected to last six to eight weeks. Clean
Up of that massive cold storage warehouse fire in Los
Angeles continues to cause this huge stink in the neighborhood.
It's been a little over a month since that fire,
but they haven't been able to get to all that
rotting food there, and the neighborhood just smells. You cannot
be outside. You have to be inside the house because

it's terrible. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass gave Lineage Logistics,
which owns this warehouse, forty five days so clean up
the entire side, but only about four percent of the
total food waste has been removed so far. That's why
it smells so bad in this Boil Heights neighborhood.

I gave them a timeline of forty five days, but
seeing the consequences of what is happening to the community,
the compromising of the health and welfare of that community, frankly,
forty five days is too long.

The Estate Air Regulators recently said Lineage must deliver a
more robust approach to controlling the putrid smell coming from
millions of pounds of rotting food that are still in
that warehouse.

Five fifty A fifth person has passed away in connection
with the Legionnaire's outbreak on the Upper east Side. As
of yesterday, eighty two reported cases of Legionnaire's disease associated
with the outbreak, which they told us was under control.
That's higher than the day before, which was seventy six.
Fifty six people have been discharged from the hospital after
being treated that according to the Health Department's website. Then
(29:14):
you had City Council Speaker Julie Menin yesterday introducing a
new set of bills aimed at approving public health. She
says the city needed to act more quickly when they
learned of this outbreak on the Upper east Side.

Someone can die, and four people did die, and we
seven more people hospitalized, and we you know, hopefully they
will be okay, but we don't know that.

City Council expected to host an oversight hearing that'll come

was announcing a lawsuit against the building following the death
of her husband doing due to Legionnaire's disease.

She spoke about the outbreak on the Upper east Side
that claimed the life of her eighty eight year old husband,
Robert for two weeks has set by his side in

I watched himself through on life support every.

Single day now, Goldstein. I said he was a retired
Air Force veteran actually, and his widow claims he was
in good health before he got sick. And so now
she's suing the building owner, arguing that her husband's death
could have been prevented if they had just cleaned those
cooling towers.

I love you so much for fifty years to see
in that way with all that machinery and lying there helpless,
and really it.

Just tears me and their family attorney. He says, lab
tests have already confirmed the connection between her husband and

They matched the DNA locations culture to the DNA of
the legion now in.

The building again. A fifth death announced overnight five point
fifty three, A community on Long Island mourning the death
of a homeless man who was stabbed to death Monday afternoon.
Locals in Medford remember the victim, thirty two year old
Timothy Stark. This is one of these homeless individuals. Maybe
you have somebody in your neighborhood who's like this to
who's kind of known in the neighborhood, one of those guys.

How many homeless people do you know of something tragic
happens that the people go out of that way to
drop flowers off of them.

Now, I would say not many. Once I saw the name,
I was like, oh my gosh, like I love that guy,
and I'm very upset.

I saw he wasn't here, and we are very upset.

My daughter started to cry.

Cops say twenty year old Joseph Norton chase down Stark
this was about three point thirty pm and stabbed them
in the back before driving away. Now, why do you
do it. I don't know. I don't understand what kind
of animal would get out of that car and unstabbed
somebody like Timmy in their back. You gotta have something
severely wrong with you. Animal might be the right description.
His attorney, though, addressed to reporters outside the courtroom, mister
(32:38):
Norton's presumed innocent. He's always presumed innocent.

These charges are not convictions. I need everybody to remember that.

Yeah, but suffer. County prosecutors say there were a lot
of witnesses in two separate dash com videos of the
stabbing five point fifty four. While we're out on Long Island,
a former Catholic boarding school in Bay Shore could soon
get new law life with a similar use. The United
American Muslim Association reached an agreement to buy the thirteen
(33:07):
acre complex on South Saxon Avenue and turned it into
an Islamic boarding school now. According to the buyers, the
nonprofit wants to open the school to provide full time
Islamic schooling in early childhood education and community programs. This
is a big campus now. Last night there was a
packed town Zoning Board of Appeals meeting. They would have
(33:28):
to pass this for the school to open, and most
of the people who showed up encouraging this town zoning
board to weigh in on their variant application and to
turn down this school. Now here's some of the people
who showed up at this meeting last year.

There is one case where that'll be a downgrade to
the surrounding area and residents. I just don't think it's
appropriate at this place and time.

The waterfront property sits south of a condominium community and
west of several residential rules.

Community group says that their opposition is strictly a zoning issue.
It's not clear when the zoning board will make their
final decision. One with this one. In New Jersey, about
four hundred non citizens cast ballotsy illegally in New Jersey's
election since twenty twenty three, after more than six thousand
were wrongly added to the Garden State's voter roles. Governor
(34:28):
mikey Ryl confirming this yesterday that there was some sort
of voting snafu that stemmed from a software school up
at the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, which automatically registered
around six hundred non Americans to vote between June twenty
twenty three and June twenty twenty four. Now, despite applicants
for driver's license rod cars indicating no on a keypad
(34:51):
when they were asked if they were citizens, the system
recorded them as eligible to vote anyway. Now, there were
four hundred people who did illegally vote. Out of those
six thousand, six hundred, they were registered as Democrats and
Republicans and unaffiliated voters. They were scattered across the state,
and Governor Cheryl says there's no evidence at this time
(35:12):
that any of the elections were swayed one way or
another by their vote.

It's unacceptable that the vendor released software was such a
glaring error. It's unacceptable that the NBC took a year
to get this issue fixed.

Cheryl says she's taking action, but she's also blaming the
former governor. Phil Murphy. Says she didn't mention him by name,
but she says it's unacceptable that no previous administration brought
this to light. She says the minute she heard about it,
she came forward with what she knew.

We're sending letters to the people impacted by this error
and we will remove anyone from the voter roles who
may have improperly registered.

Now New Jersey's won of twenty three straits along with
the District of Columbia that allows automatic voter registration through

Yes, Dorothy, that it was a tornado that hit New
Jersey Town on Long Island. Battles back against the opening
of a Muslim boarding school. There's been another legionnaire's death
on the East side mayor. Mom, Donnie can't stop talking
about bb nets and Yahoo and how did those illegal
immigrants really end up on the voter rolls in the
(01:18):
Garden State. All right, let's get into it. At five
ZHO four. You two confirmed tornadoes in New Jersey yesterday.
One touchdown in Stanhope, Sussex County. The other touchdown Parsipeny,
Troy Hills, that's in Morris County. National Weather Service gonna
send survey crews to those areas today to investigate determine
their ratings. Stanhope police say most of the damage there
(01:41):
was contained to major roadways. No injuries reported in connection
to the tornado. But it was fright day for everybody.

All I heard was the wind.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
The wind just came out of nowhere and it just
was like going everywhere.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
I was inside and I just saw the storm that
take off, and it was crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
The wind was like picking up, came out of nowhere.

I mean this time I've ever.

Actually seen one, so it's crazy.

Yeah.

The other tornado par Sipenny, Troy's Hills. The Morris County
Office of Emergency Management, their nine to one one operators
actually watched this twist.

The operators were all actually looking out the window at
the time and so did see the rotation.

We're certainly grateful that we didn't have type of volume
that we had on the laststorms.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yes, so there was damage to some homes, but again
no injuries, that's the good news. And then for everybody else,
it was intense winds, flash flooding in Dover. Over in
New Jersey, drovers drivers found themselves suddenly surrounded by high
water yesterday.
Speaker 7 (02:38):
Cars were starting to pull under the underpaths and we
realized something was wrong.
Speaker 9 (02:43):
We saw those trees down on top of those cars
and slowed down.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Yeah, one of those funny moments. The CBS News senior
transportation correspondent, he was on a plane coming to Newark, Liberty,
but it got diverted because of the tornado warnings yesterday.
So we reported from the air.
Speaker 10 (03:00):
Bruising day for flyers trying to get in and out
of the Northeast. My flight to Newark has diverted to Philadelphia,
in part, the captain says, because the Newark Tower was
evacuated because of a potential tornado.
Speaker 11 (03:13):
Es.

Yeah, so flash flooding, severe thunderstorms. They left two cars
completely submerged in floodwaters up in West yesterday. This was
underneath the Palmer Avenue overpass for the Bronx River Parkway,
which seems to always get flooded, even if it's just
a mild amount of rain. But this was a lot
in a very short period of time.
Speaker 9 (03:30):
I figured, like, this exact place is going to be
flooded and everything.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
I saw some of the rubble on the roads and everything.
Oh it's been heck. They kind of expected it with
like you know, the heavy rain.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Bronx River swelled, pasted, its banks, wiled large portions of
the roadway, the parkway, it seems to evolve, sort of
moved away, left garbage. Of course, two cars trapped amid
that they were. They saw the water just heading downstream
faster than the traffic could escape to higher ground. Then
and Yonkers, they were hit pretty hard yesterday as well.
(04:00):
In fact, people were commenting about how hard the rain
was falling. Well, again, just this short thing. This is
what most people saw a very short period of time,
really hard rain, really intense winds, And of course they
were worried about a tornado because we were all getting
those tornado warnings yesterday.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
I couldn't even see out. The window was so heavy,
gutters were overflowing.
Speaker 6 (04:20):
We were driving it and we could barely say, could
barely say around eleven thirty right around there.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
In that same neighborhood. Some people who use a sump
pump in their basement were hoping that it would you
help them out yesterday amid the flood waters. But then
the power went out. So you need power to run something.
Speaker 12 (04:37):
If you have a some pump, it's not going to
work because it needs power to you know, have a
some pump work.
Speaker 13 (04:42):
And so unless you have a generator, you're not going
to have any power.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Now we're seeing some scattered power outages across the Try State.
No major numbers coming in, but there are some people
who lost it yesterday waiting for it to come back on.
And then when we look at the totals of rain
across the Try State, you realize how affected these towns were.
Some of the small ones. Terrytown got five inches of
rain yesterday. Central Park we didn't even get an inch
(05:07):
of rain. We thought we were going to get hit bad.
We did not. But portions of Queen's got a fair amount.
And in New Jersey and some of those places that
were hit board, tornadoes and Stanhope three inches of rain
in Sparta. Three inches of rain. Of course, today will
be a day to clean up the muddy mess that
is left behind. WABC News Time five ten. A queen's
(05:28):
mom found stabbed to death early yesterday. Her husband's body
was found hanging from a tree in a nearby park,
and wood is suspected to be a murder suicide. Thirty
four year old Mary Golden was found stabbed in the
back at her home on forty first Street, right near
Nineteenth Avenue in Astoria. This was about one o'clock yesterday morning.
(05:50):
And then about six hours later, her husband, Joseph Aziato,
was discovered hanging from a tree in nearby Astoria Park.
The couple left behind an eleven month boy. Eleven month
old boy. He was recovered by one of Golding's friends
after Azorado called her and confessed to the killing. And
(06:11):
the neighborhood of course rocked by this.

We don't really know the people over there, but it's
so sad to hear, you know that, It's very tragic.

Yeah, an employee at a neighboring autobody shop and Astoria
says Golding and Azorado had just moved to their basement
apartment from Pennsylvania about two months ago, but they say
Azorado quickly had developed a reputation in the neighborhood for
being crazy. In fact, they recalled an instance where Azorado
had physically fought with a REPO man who was trying
to take their car away. Five to eleven. Let's go overseas.
(06:44):
President Trump says Iran desperately wants to meet, even as
the US and Iran intensified their attacks overnight.
Speaker 15 (06:53):
One of the first things we did early in the administration,
they would have a new career weapon, and you wouldn't
have Israel, and in my opinion, you wouldn't have various
other countries in the Middle East that all be got.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Yeah. This comes as the US has conducted strikes on
Iran for eleventh straight nine Three US soldiers killed in
Iranian attacks on bases in Jordan and Iraq over the weekend.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard claim that its aerospace force used
cruise missiles to destroy Amazon's central data infrastructure that's in Bahrain,

in an attack that also targeted US air defense systems.
But President Trump says Iran can have a nuclear weapon
and he says they're going to stay there until they
make sure that doesn't happen.

So if we left right now, it would take Iran
twenty twenty five years to rebuild, Okay, and we're not
finished at all, but if we left right now, it
would take them.

Now, yesterday, the President welcome in the Lebanese President Joseph
Ayjun to the Oval Office, talk about what's happening there.

Got to solve a lot of problems. We've already solved
some of them for Lebanon.

Yeah, So the two discuss the ongoing threat from Iran
backed Hezeblah, which is in control in parts of Lebanon,
and a Yun. Then press President Trump on Israel's withdrawal
from Lebanon, and it's.

Been a very badly treated place and country, and we're
going to have it properly treated and treated with respect
that it deserves.

And then Pentagon now says more than one hundred US
service members have been injured since the US restarted strikes
against Iran earlier this month, more than that from News Nations.

Corey Smith, Farman of War, saying a vast majority of
those injuries are minor concussions. We've heard a lot about
missile and drone attacks on US basis minor concussion, but
that is still a brain injury. The spokesperson went on
to say that about ninety six percent of those service
members who have been injured have returned to duty, and
are you're to getting back in the fight now?

The Department of War says, US Central Command is not
required to release information about injured service members. And here's
what we know from the last twelve hours or so.
US bombs ran for eleventh consecutive night. Tehran launches more
of retaliatory attacks overnight on Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan. President
Trump again on social media threatening to attack a suspected

Iranian nuclear site called Pickaxe Mountain. He says that could
happen pretty soon and very heavily, prompting Tehran to threaten
an expansion of the war in the entire region. And
then you have the mediators who try to stop this thing.
They're stepping up efforts to stop the hostilities. Iran's interior
minister holding talks today with Pakistani officials, including an army
(09:47):
chief there in islamis bad as they try to come
up with a deal to stop this thing before it
really continues to escalate. And then back here in the US,
you have the Secretary of War Pete Hegseth testifying yesterday
about Iran war funding before the Sunate. He says they
need more money eighty eight billion dollar supplemental funding request.
He says it's critical to America's military readiness across the board.

There was a back and forth between him and senators
in Congress yesterday, one of them Dick Durbin. Here's Dick
Durban and Hegseth yesterday.

I really don't. Amount of neglect, the amount of stale

with the Legionnaire's outbreak on the Upper east Side. As
of yesterday, eighty two reported cases of Legionnaire's disease associated
with the outbreak, which they told us was under control.
That's higher than the day before, which was seventy six.
Fifty six people have been discharged from the hospital after
being treated that according to the Health Department's website. Then

you had City Council Speaker Julie Menin yesterday introducing a
new set of bills aimed at approving public health. She
says the city needed to act more quickly when they
learned of this outbreak on the Upper east Side.

seven more people hospitalized, and we you know, hopefully they

Yeah, but suffer. County prosecutors say there were a lot
of witnesses in two separate dash com videos of the
stabbing five point fifty four. While we're out on Long Island,
a former Catholic boarding school in Bay Shore could soon
get new law life with a similar use. The United
American Muslim Association reached an agreement to buy the thirteen
(33:07):
acre complex on South Saxon Avenue and turned it into
an Islamic boarding school now. According to the buyers, the
nonprofit wants to open the school to provide full time
Islamic schooling in early childhood education and community programs. This
is a big campus now. Last night there was a
packed town Zoning Board of Appeals meeting. They would have
(33:28):
to pass this for the school to open, and most
of the people who showed up encouraging this town zoning
board to weigh in on their variant application and to
turn down this school. Now here's some of the people
who showed up at this meeting last year.

There is one case where that'll be a downgrade to
the surrounding area and residents. I just don't think it's
appropriate at this place and time.

The waterfront property sits south of a condominium community and
west of several residential rules.

It's not appropriate.

We don't want it here.

It's to bring it somewhere else.

Community group says that their opposition is strictly a zoning issue.
It's not clear when the zoning board will make their
final decision. One with this one. In New Jersey, about
four hundred non citizens cast ballotsy illegally in New Jersey's
election since twenty twenty three, after more than six thousand
were wrongly added to the Garden State's voter roles. Governor
(34:28):
mikey Ryl confirming this yesterday that there was some sort
of voting snafu that stemmed from a software school up
at the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, which automatically registered
around six hundred non Americans to vote between June twenty
twenty three and June twenty twenty four. Now, despite applicants
for driver's license rod cars indicating no on a keypad
(34:51):
when they were asked if they were citizens, the system
recorded them as eligible to vote anyway. Now, there were
four hundred people who did illegally vote. Out of those
six thousand, six hundred, they were registered as Democrats and
Republicans and unaffiliated voters. They were scattered across the state,
and Governor Cheryl says there's no evidence at this time
(35:12):
that any of the elections were swayed one way or
another by their vote.
Speaker 18 (35:16):
It's unacceptable that the vendor released software was such a
glaring error. It's unacceptable that the NBC took a year
to get this issue fixed.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
Cheryl says she's taking action, but she's also blaming the
former governor. Phil Murphy. Says she didn't mention him by name,
but she says it's unacceptable that no previous administration brought
this to light. She says the minute she heard about it,
she came forward with what she knew.
Speaker 18 (35:40):
We're sending letters to the people impacted by this error
and we will remove anyone from the voter roles who
may have improperly registered.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
Now New Jersey's won of twenty three straits along with
the District of Columbia that allows automatic voter registration through
their Motor Vehicle Bureau, with the onus on residents to
