fixing the rent in New Jersey. There's been another legionnaire's
death on the upper east Side, a Bronx woman dies
after getting an anti aging injection, and a Brooklyn woman
details how she survived a bullet to the chest.

Let's start with the weather, which I don't always do,
but it's gonna be kind of dicey today. So if
you're in New Jersey in the West Milford area, you're
gonna see some rain early this morning. Here in the city,
the showers will probably come a little bit later today,
but there'll be multiple rounds of thunderstorms hearing the city,
most likely between four and eleven PM tonight. Now, most

of the city will see up to two inches of rain,
but spots could get repeated downpours a little bit later
this afternoon with to three inches of rain. You know,
that means some flash flooding and low lying areas, poor
drainage areas areas, plus ponding on some roadways and under passes.
So if you're out and about this afternoon, that's when

these strongest storms could come through. The wind gusts are
going to be bad as well, anywhere from forty to
sixty miles per hour. We're even talking about maybe some
hail and in New Jersey, possibility of a tornado popping out,
So you need to pay attention. Keep it here seventy

If there's some sort of weather emergency, let's hope it

allegedly set off fireworks outside the Lower Manhattan Federal Building
yesterday morning was apparently anti ice, anti government. FBI Assistant
Director in charge James Barnacle says forty three year old

Andrew Arabaca came to the Federal PLASA twenty six Federal
Plaza looking to injure people yesterday.

He had two axes, a hammer, a machete, and three nice.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, he wasn't messing around. Arabaca allegedly set off fireworks,
lit a flammable liquid, fired off several pellets from an
airsoft rifle at the building. He allegedly yelled out anti
ice slurs while he was being taken down by the NYPD.
Three were injured. Two of those who had had to
be taken to the hospital. The building is home to

a US Citizenship and Immigration Services Office, and Barnacle apparently
has long been a target or he has been associated
with extreme ASTs.

He is an anti American, anti government extremist. We know
that from what he said, We know that from what
he has said post arrest, and we know that from
what his actions that he tried to take today.

Now I should plan it's Arabaca who has long been
connected to extremists. The FBI describing this incident outside the
Federal Building yesterday morning.

Port gasoline onto the ground, it ignited it with a
lighter in an Incidia device. That device was a firework,
a large firework in a canister that proceeded to catch
on fire. Pretty big flame as you've seen on the internet.

two thousand and five, working primarily as a Patriot missile
system mechanic. He left the military with the rank of

had prior documented history as an emotionally disturbed person, but

no pass arrest. This apparently was the first one downtown yesterday.

More than nine hundred fires are currently burning across Canada,
leading to smoke, pollution and health alerts all across the country.
Of course, we had them here. There was even a
little smoke in the air yesterday, still here in the city.

in the haze that we saw yesterday, with smoke.

Air quality alerts have been extended basically throughout the entire
day today, with experts recommending people limit time outdoors as
much as possible.

Health alerts were also in effect in parts of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania,

This was New Jersey's MetLife Stadium Saturday, just twenty four
hours before Sunday's World Cup Final, when conditions thankfully improved.
Chicago's air quality deemed unhealthy again today.

Yes, President Trump suggesting that Canada faced tariffs or at
least a bill for wildfire smoke that has covered large
sections of the northeastern US. The President says he told
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney that Ottawa needed to do
more to control those fires or pay for the damages.

Getting this in this morning, but right before we came
to air, a man stabbed and wounded two American tourists
near the Ancient Acropolis in Athens the st morning.

The attacker a man.

He went after this man and woman, both Greek Americans,
apparently with a knife, on a street near an entrance
to the Acropolis itself and near the entrance to the
Acropolis Museum, which lies right at the foot of the
Acropolis Hill. The woman suffered injuries to her leg, while
the man was more seriously hurt with wounds to his arm.
We don't have a whole lot more on this, but
the attacker was detained at the scene. The two victims

transported to the hospital. We don't know their identities. We
don't know what the motive for the stabbing was either,
of course. His more information comes in on that story.
We'll pass that on to you. Five to eleven while
we're overseas. The two soldiers killed in Iranian strikes and
Jordan over the weekend, identified now.

And saying that they were twenty five year old. First
Lieutenant Tyler James Fihan and nineteen year old Private Isabella Gonzalez.

That's correspondent Kiir Simon's. The Pentagon says the soldiers were
in Jordan's Operation Inherent Resolve, which is the name of
the mission against the Islamic State. Meanwhile, another service member
was killed in Iraq on Saturday. That soldier has not
been identified. Simon's reports a US service member was also
killed in northern Iraq.

That person hasn't been named yet, but sen Com says
that it was while a Iranian drone was being made
safe that had landed in that region, a region where
there are also a US bases.

And President Trump was scheduled to attend the dignified transfer
of the remains of those service members that'll take place
tomorrow at Dover.

Meanwhile, the US continues to expand its target list inside Iran,
striking what US Central Command says are military targets including
energy infrastructure, port facilities, bridges, coastal surveillance sites, and air defenses.

Tries are saying no it is not entirely dead, that

The Iranian Foreign Ministry says diplomatic messages from mediators have
been delivered to Tehran. Secretary of State Mark Rubio says

And then there's just rise and concerns over the thread
of an all war between Iran and the US. And
that's prompting now the State Department to issue a warning

Brookshaftment is renewing its warning to Americans worldwide to be
increasingly cautious after this weekend's developments in the Middle East.
The agency warns of heightened tension, saying that groups supportive
of Iran may target Americans around the world, adding the
security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation.

The US Embassy in Aman this weekend also warned Americans
in Jordan to avoid military bases and the airport, which
US officials said was evacuated Sunday because of a credible threat.
Jordanian authorities denied that. Still, Americans in the Middle East

they don't know if it's connected to those crimes, and
maybe this is just some individual who thought somebody wasn't
home and then ran into sa Kuon Barker.

Barkley's close call comes after a recent string of high
profile burglaries. In twenty twenty four, thieves broke into the
homes of multiple athletes, including Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick
Mahomes and tied in Travis Kelcey stealing more than two
million dollars worth of cash, jewelry, and memorabilia.

Now, in this case, it seems they didn't get away
with anything, but of course they ran into the family
inside the house.

how many were involved.

on the Upper east Side. So far, seventy six have
been diagnosed with the disease since the outbreak was first identified,
seven patients in the hospital.

These are the latest numbers we're getting from the.

Health Department as of last nine The outbreak has been
concentrated in the zip codes of one oh one, two eight,
one hundred twenty eight, and one hundred seventy five. Now
Mayor Mom Dottie is touting that he's claiming that the
quick response to Legionnaire's outbreak has made it so it's
not as bad as last year's outbreak up in Harlam.

Past city protocol has been to begin an investigation after
three cases have been confirmed in a tight area and timeframe.

Now, Mom, don not wait for that. I do mean
to step on you there, Mayor.

The mayor says, as a result of early testing and
cleaning efforts, health officials believe the original source of the
outbreak has been eliminated.

We believe that we have now eliminated the source of exposure. Regardless,
we are continuing to inspect cooling towers and will aggressively
enforce our public healthul law now.

But City Council Speaker Julie men And she's demanding that
Mayor Mom Donnie cough off answers on how the deadly
Legionnaire's disease outbreak that has sickened dozens of New Yorkers
festered on the Upper east Side. She said the city
did not respond quick enough men and will introduce a
build today that will require the city to take proactive

steps to identify cooling towers that building owners failed to
test for the disease causing bacteria and automatically disinfect them
as a precaution. And that was what she was suggesting
early on in this Her proposed legislation would set up
a dedicated summer hotline so New Yorkers can get up
to date answers during a Legionnaire's outbreak that according to

the details that were shared with us five forty two yesterday,
we were telling you about this eighteen year old woman
who was shot in the chest. This was late Sunday night,
about midnight going into Monday. She was waiting for a
subway at the Medgars Evers College subway station when a
man came up to her and demanded she hand over

(24:13):
her purse. Well, she fought to hold on to that person.
That's when he pulled out a gun. He put it
to her chest and he fired at her. Now, the
amazing thing is she's going to be okay. In fact,
she's home today. She spoke to Eyewitness News last night.
She talked about exactly what took place.

Speaker 18 (24:29):
She wanted my necklaces first, and I had told some
him to be would be good. He started to grab
my bag, my purse, and he kept on telling me
to give me to give him my person. I was
tunning him, know, and then we started playing over the bag.
I thought that he was gonna stop, but I was

(24:50):
just like not in the right head space at the
time because I didn't think that it was actually happening
to me.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Well, you never think it's happening.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
They tussled over her Steve Madden per she says, for
about two minutes before he pressed a gun against her
chest and shot her. She was on her way home
for work. Miraculously, she walked away with a fleshwood as
the bullet apparently went through her chest and out her
upper back.

Speaker 18 (25:16):
I feel a little better. I'm just getting used to
everything in the pain. It just wasn't clicking in my head,
the scenario of what was going on until afterwards.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
Oh, when you're in the middle of it, you're freaking out.
So she fell to the ground. The guy was able
to get her bag. She did not need surgery, and
in fact, as of last night, she was released from
the hospital and told to rest at home, which is
what she's doing this morning.

Speaker 18 (25:44):
I was surprised that it was minimal damage. I did
think it was going to be weirds only because of
where I thought it was.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
Yes, so here.

Speaker 4 (25:52):
The police were able to track her cellphone, which was
in that Steve Madden handbag, to another location on Pacific Street,
but when they got there, they found a few of
her items that were stolen during the robbery that were
on the ground, but no sign of the guy who
shot her amazingly though she's alive and doing okay. Now,
they just got to find the creep that shot her,
and imagine that shall just be a matter of time.

tell you about a woman who died after being given

forty eight, a woman died after receiving a serum injection
from an unlicensed doctor at a wellness center in the Bronx,
and now the holistic health care provider is facing some

(28:18):
big time charges. Doctor Louise Rojas had advertised himself as
a holistic doctor who offers alternative medicine at his lifestyle
center on Riverdale Avenue. His website offers a host of services,
but neglects to mention that he does not have a.

Speaker 4 (28:35):
License to practice in the US. That fact unfortunately uncovered
as police are investigating the death of Elizabeth Baron, who
was under Rojas's care. Law enforcement sources say the twenty
seven year old was receiving an injection of some sort
of serum on Sunday and eighty anti agent serum. When
something went horribly long, she lost consciousness. She was taken

to the emergence sering room.

This was about one.

Speaker 4 (29:01):
O'clock on Sunday, and then she passed away. And some
people who live near this clinic say they always wondered
what was going on because they saw lots of people
coming in and out of it.

I think it's terrible that somebody died, period, and the
fact that doctor was not licensed and was doing some
dubious injection makes it even worse.

Speaker 4 (29:23):
Rojas has a license to practice medicine in the Dominican Republic,
but not in the US. His website indicates he's certified
as a medical assistant, an alternative medicine doctor now charged
with requisite dangerment authorized practice of a profession. An attorney
for Rojas's come forward that, as neighbors say, you know,

this should never happen.

I wouldn't think that somebody can have like a double
life or a secret life er now, But then to
hear that somebody lost their life because of that, like
you feel for the family.

Yeah.

So the medical examiner investigating and will determine the exact
cause of death. It wasn't clear if she had any
underlying medical conditions. WABC News Time five p. Fifty It's
headed over to Brooklyn. Do you know that three people
were hit and killed by cars over the weekend in Brooklyn.
One man was hitting a crash on Saint Mark's and

(30:18):
Franklin Avenue in Crowned Heights. That was Saturday afternoon. Apparently
a driver ran a red light, then hit another car
that crashed into the sixty seven year old man who
was just crossing the street.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
He was killed.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
And then you had seventy nine year old Yeah, that James,
She was hit and killed in a crash in Ease Flatbush.
And then there was another crash. These were all Friday
into Saturday. Seven forty five in the morning, pedestrian was
hit by a FLATBEG truck right near Pennsylvania Avenue.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
The rear tire hit her. She was taken to the
hospital where she died.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
Now, the one piece of good news is all the
drivers stayed on the scene. These were not hitting runs,
but just horrific, horrific accidents.

Speaker 22 (31:01):
I mean, I think three fatal crashes in a single
weekend is just unacceptable. Is in the city. I know
the city is trying to work on this, but I
don't understand why it's taking too long.

Speaker 3 (31:14):

He's with Transportation Alternatives, a safe safety advocate group. The
three crashes, the drivers remained at the scene. So far,
there's been no arrest made, but police are still doing
an investigation.

Streets are so busy, so crowded, that we just need
better protections.

Obviously.

It makes me feel uneasy walking around the city.

Another horrific story. It's just a few of these this morning.
An investigation underway after two children were killed in a
boat crash. This was late Sunday night in New Jersey.
Happened in Berkeley Township Bay area. The children were on
a boat with their grandparents when the thirty foot vessel

(31:58):
he hit an Intercoastal Waterway channel marker. The impact was
so strong it caused a nine year old girl and
a seven year old boy to be ejected into the water. Now,
their grandparents, if you're, you know, just searching the water
trying to find their grandchildren. They did eventually, but they
were unresponsive. Children were taken to a local hospital where

(32:20):
they were pronounced dead. Firefighters and EMTs they raced out
to try to save these kids.

Speaker 17 (32:25):
One of the points last night that they make sure
that they documented everything that was seen, and you know,
all the facts are going to be there and they're
going to be accurate. So whether which way they go,
they're accurate. And the fireman did. I can't say enough
for our EMTs and our firemen. One of the empts
jumped right on the fireboat and went out.

Speaker 4 (32:47):
Unfortunately it was just too late. The children were taken
to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead. There
were life jackets seen next to these children as they
were receiving CPR. She'll say, all the lights on that
channel marker were working and on at the time.

Speaker 3 (33:05):
Of the accident.

Speaker 4 (33:06):
Now, of course this is horrific for the family, but
it's horrific for the firefighters too who race to the scene.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
One of them is somebody who's about to have a case.

Speaker 17 (33:15):
Is a real tragedy. You know, the water is unforgiving.
I did hang out at the firehouse and tomorrow night
they're having a meeting, and you know, I was a
Medican Vietnam, so you know I've seen this.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
So I consoled the.

Speaker 17 (33:31):
Fireman, the two firemen that ran out there, and actually
the one fireman is having a baby this month and
he's out there given cpre So it's unfortunate.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Yeah, So the crash remains under investigation this morning. Mayor
mom Donna yesterday doubling down, maybe it's tripling down at
this point on his plans to arrest Israeli Prime Minister
bb Netan Yahoo if he were to come to New
York for the General Assembly, which is no doubt he will.
The Israeli leader is expected to visit the Big app
in September. Here is mom Donni. Yesterday's reporters asked him

about this again.

Speaker 14 (34:04):
My administration will follow all applicable local laws. That is
our commitment. That is something that we will follow through
on when it comes to an adherence to local law.
And that's all I have to add on.

Speaker 4 (34:15):
So President Trump dismissing the fact that mom Donnie has
any legal power to arrest Nata Yahoo when he comes
to the United States. Yesterday you had Natanya who calling
the international Court a kangaroo court with no jurisdiction over Israelis.
But here he was Mom Donnie again saying that he's
investigating whether what he can do if he can legally

(34:37):
have the Prime Minister arrest.

Speaker 14 (34:38):
We're speaking about someone who's the subject of an international
criminal court arrest warrant, and he's the subject of this
arrest warrant for alleged crimes against humanity, for war crimes,
and he's the architect of the genocide against Palestinians and Gaza.
These are not facts of my personal assessment. They are
facts of public record.

Now he knows he can't arrest him. You and I
know that he can't arrest but he still continues to
talk about it. You had Rabbi Joe Patasnik, he served
on the mayor's transition team, and here's what he had
to say about all this yesterday.

If you're the mayor, you should find opportunities to bring communities.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
Together, not to cheer them up. Yeah. So I wish
you would focus on that and lots of the others. Yeah, well,
apparently he's not going to do that. Let's end with
this one.

Over in New Jersey, they began the new e bike
law enforcement yesterday, which means that riders who don't comply
with this sweeping set of new requirements, including obtaining a license,
registering their bike and wearing a helmet can now be ticketed.
Now we have this in the city. You've seen these

(35:43):
guys all over the place on these e bikes, a
lot of times their kids. We see lots of people
being hit by these bikes. So now you need to
have a license, and you don't, you'll be pulled over. Well,
they'll pull you over anyway, Maybe just check you do.
Here's the people in Westfield, the officers, the police, they
say they're going to start enforcement out of it.

Speaker 23 (36:03):
We've had issues of juveniles kind of riding throughout town
like having fun, but sometimes getting into the roadways, driving
in large groups, and a lot of that has to
do with possibly them not knowing like the rules of
the road.

Speaker 4 (36:15):
Yes, so of course some of the issue is these
are new drivers, right, they're on e bikes. They may
have not had any sort of driving lessons whatsoever, and
so they don't know the rules of the road.

Speaker 23 (36:25):
If they're operating deal in a nonsafe way. I don't
care what age it is, they're going to be stopped
in order to advise them that their behavior is inappropriate
and that could jeopardize their safety.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
So they started making these stops apparently yesterday.
