Neighbors race from their homes after an explosion in the
Bronx and off due the lifeguard to the rescue on
Long Island. A gold bar scam that has duped way
too many New Yorkers. Would you eat? A pizza made
in the trunk of a car? And a battle of
a birthday cake at a New Jersey restaurant has everybody
weighing in. All right, let's get into it. At five

old four, Let's go up to the Bronx where one
person dead eleven others injured, two of them critically after
an explosion and fired at a Bronx apartment building yesterday afternoon,
Danny Mercado says he barely escaped his second floor apartment
right next to the blast.

Got lucky.

What I had was the ceiling floor roaming.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
I saw a path, apartment gone, and then I went
to check on the neigh books you had burned, and
then the fire started getting bigger and we came outside.

Now it's not clear one where this explosion, why it
took place. Of his five story buildings is two hundred
and ninth Street, right in the Norwood section.

Collapse earth crakes.

I've done Yeah, there were fair amount of neighbors who
say they were caught inside this building. They had to
just run for their lives to get out. The flames
moved incredibly quickly.

She was like a shock.

The fire was.

Closet, The whole closet was a flame. Now hours later,
maybe six hours later, we heard from the fire officials
and they said this explosion ripped the doors off hinges
of this apartment and the flames did go incredibly fast.
There were residents in this building that were begging firefighters
to go back in and get their pets, saying they
didn't care about their apartments, they just wanted their pets out.

This is the firefighters talking about this after the blaze
was put down.

This was a very difficult fire on a very hot
and humid day. We had multiple people that needed to
be rescued out of the building. Our FDNY firefighters and
ems did an extraordinary job. There are multiple examples of heroism.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Now, it wasn't until five hours after the fire started
that search and rescue teams discovered that one person was
dead inside the building. To give us a whole lot
more detail about that. Among those critically injured who were
a forty eight year old woman who was at Jacobi Hospital.
One of those injured is a child who's under one,
but their injuries are being described as minor. Six firefighters injured,

including three serious injuries, battling this blaze. Now, the cause
of the fire, there's two different theories. One is a
gas explosion and one is another one of these potential
lithium ion battery malfunctions, which we've seen way too many
times in the city over the last couple of years.
I imagine in the next couple of hours we'll have
more on that fire and what started at five o six.

While we're talking fires, a twenty four year old's been
arrested now and connection to that fire that destroyed the
South Bushwick Reformed Church's beautiful landmark that it stood for
one hundred and seventy five years in Brooklyn. The arrest
bringing mixed emotions from members of that congregation who've been
searching for answers since the fire back in June. Here's

Because there as an arrest that's been made, then that
adds another layer of sadness and grief and anger is
shot of.

Course, I mean, this thing had been around one hundred
and seventy five years. So there's video apparently of a
man purchasing a lighter than using it set the fire
on the afternoon of June nineteenth. That blaze quickly spread
through the building's wooden structure, reducing the church to rubble.
Federal prosecutors now identifying this fire bug as twenty four
year old John Jones. He lives in Brooklyn. He has

no known connection to the congregation. The church has long
served and did as a gathering place for people in
the community.

We have done graduation and proms, and weddings and baptisms
and ordinations and funerals and baptistful giveaways and holiday community mails.

And just how stupid some random guy sets this thing
on fire. So now people in this community are saying, hey,
you live here, if you've moved into the community in
recent years, because it's seen some turnover, newer buildings going up.
They say it's time to hand over some cash to
help them build a new play.

live here, donate something and be part of the community.

And police telling us that they arrested Jones overnight Tuesday
into Wednesday after he was allegedly involved in the theft
of a sandwich in a soda from a CVS in
Midtown and then cops discovered there's a warrant for his
arrest in the Arson case, so he's expected to appear
in federal court in Brooklyn as soon as this morning.
News Time fontines there's going to be a Senate vote

today on whether the whole doctor Anthony Fauci and contempt
of Congress. The Senate Homeland Security Committee vote comes after
the former White House Health advisor invoked the Fifth Amendment
more than one hundred times during a hearing last week
about the COVID pandemic and the Advisive Council.

Now the President out west on this swing. He spoke
at his Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes
and there was a thirty eight week old we had
told you about yesterday who had been arrested over the weekend,
who was walking the grounds armed with the gun, had
all kinds of guns in the trunk of his car,
and had all kinds of guns and weapons in his home.

He is facing a federal weapons charge.

Now Deakert Service, along with other federal and local partners
were at the Trump golf course preparing for the president's visit.
They observed what was a suspicious person acting suspiciously at
the location.

Now this was two days ahead of the president's visit.
Janine john Tail, that's his name. They searched his vehicle,
recovered a loaded pistol around in the chamber. A search
of his home turned up high powered firearms, ammunition, body armor,
and a notebook out. The question is was he there
to do something to the president? Now they have not
gotten as far as saying that's the case.

He identified himself as an employee of the state department.
He's not an employee of the State Department, and so
just very suspicious behavior. So we work together hand in hand,
and this is just an example of that work. And
so the sheriff's deputies were a huge part of this.
They were the ones who initially took them into custody.

Now Tail has been charged federally with possessing an unregistered
short barreled rifle. He's also pending state charges involving weapons

marine and interesting, it'll be interesting to see how this

call there the Incident Command Management. It's like emergency management
officials say they now reach between five and thirteen percent
containment of three fires and that they're making steady progress
aided by some cool weather. Over the last twenty four hours.
The fires have led to over sixty thousand being evacuated

over there from their homes over just the last couple
of days.

against five alleged high ranking members of the Jalisco New
Generation Cartel. Here's the acting US Attorney Todd Blanche making

Yes, we're also announcing today with the State Department more
than one hundred million dollars in rewards for information leading
to the arrest of not only the five that were
just unsealed today, but three indicted previously unsealed cases against

former cartel leader who's known as El Menshow, who was
killed in a Mexican military raid back in February.

Least cartel members have been charged with a range of crimes,

in US custody. They're searching for them. A new report
says at least twelve states now have reported cyber attacks
against their water systems that may be linked to IRAN

He says the affected systems largely rely on Internet connected
systems that allow small staffs to operate these systems remotely,

It's a little frightening to think that they're messing with

Committee has announced an investigation into Congressman Max Miller. Correspondent

Now, police reports that have been obtained by some news
organizations detail accusations of physical abuse and threats during their marriage.
Miller's running for reelection in November. Lawmakers have this busy
week they want to leave for the August recess with
everything in place. In addition to voting on Attorney General
nominee Todd Blanche, they also have a budget agreement that

That Republicans are and talks about taking the first steps
to pass a GOP budget bill that wouldn't need any
support from Democrats. It could include money for states to
enforce voter ID requirements, as outlined in the Save America Act,
which is championed by President Trump and has been blocked
by Senate Democrats. But in a bipartisan move, the Senate
overwhelmingly advanced a short term government funding bill to prevent

an October first shutdown. Senate leaders are looking to hold
a final vote this week.

Act took deffect here in New York yesterday, allowing terminally

ill adults the option to end their lives with the
help of a doctor. The act allows six New Yorker
sick New Yorkers, i should say, with six months to live,
to end their lives through medical assistance.

end of their life.

Now, that's Governor Hokel who witnessed her mom suffered from AOS,
and she said that it took years of intimate discussions
with bill sponsors, health experts, advocates, and most importantly, families
who've had similar firsthand experiences for her to sign off
on the SACK, which is now a law in New York.

This is about respecting deeply personal choices right, specifically at
the end of life, and giving terminally ill New Yorkers
more control over to the end of day.

That's someone who had advocated for this bill. In all
beneath so there is a mandatory waiting period of five
days between when a prescription is written and filled. You
have to record a video or audio of a request
by the patient for medical aid and dying. There's a
mandatory mental health evaluation. But there's a lot of hurdles

between the person doing saying they want to die and
being able to get the medications to die. Now, there's
a lot of people against this. They say this is
in moral There's others who worry that loved ones will
take their lives because medications to keep them alive will
bankrupt their families, and they say it'll be cheaper to
kill themselves.

We're making it much easier for people to to get
medicine to kill themselves than we are for them to
get medicine to improve their quality of life and prolong
their life, and that sends a really strong message.

Yeah, that's a huge problem. So this was an upsetting
story we did earlier this week, and now we're hearing
from the family Officer Rebecca de Paula. She was an
officer with the NYPDA. She headed down to the Dominican
Republic over the weekend to do a cosmetic procedure. It's
cheaper to do it in other countries. And while she
was undergoing this cosmetic surgery at a clinic in Santa Domingo,

she caught some sort of bacterial infection. We don't really
know all the details of it, but she passed away
just thirty one years old. Her family speaking out yesterday
about the loss of her.

What makes the story even more awful is Depaula leaves
behind three kids. She had joined the NYPD in twenty fifteen.

in the Bronx, where she had just been named three

Mamdanie going hard against e bikes, those some of the
least of the dangerous illegal ones. Anyway, he held a

news conference yesterday. The mayor did says he sent cease
and desist letters that have gone out to online retailers
who are selling these e bikes and motorized scooters that
exceed the city's twenty mile per hour speed limit. And
we've seen some of these bikes on the street. They
go as high as thirty forty miles an hour, and
people don't have helmets on.

Our administration, through our Corporation Council, is sending a cease
and assist letter to more than forty online retailers that
have been selling these illegal vehicles.

Now, the mayor says, companies that don't comply will risk
fines of up to two thousand dollars per infraction. Some
of the companies getting these letters Amazon, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Wayfair,
you know the companies you've heard of.

These online retailers risk facing civil penalties of up to
two thousand dollars for each individual infraction.

So Mayor Mom Donnie, revealing the contents of these c
sent assist.

Letters demanding that they immediately end the sale of prohibited
motorized scooters and e bikes to New York City residents
and New York City business.

these things all the time when I'm walking around mid Town.
A great moment out at Robert Moses Beach on Long Island.
So this off goood duty lifeguard. His name is Brandon Collin.
He's out surfing in the early evening before it gets
dark with a sister, Cassidy, and all of a sudden

they hear screams from help from the water, and thank
god they're there because they're lifeguards. He paddles over and
he sees someone being pulled out in a rip card.

We heard some yelling from down the beach. Paddled over
and I saw, yeah, guy getting pulled out in a
repparent holding a boogy board, and I got over to him,
started to pull him in, and then I heard more
yelling down the beach and apparently four other patrons had
tried to jump in to help the initial guy and
they got swept out too.

Yeah, now all five of them are in the water struggling.
So Brandon and his sister Cassidy, one by one pluck
all four of these guys out of the ocean.

It was very dark at the time, and just before
the police arrived, a lot of the patrons on the
beach were they were shining their flashlights, just trying to
prove out a little light for us out there, because
it got dark fast and the rips were very strong,
so it took a while to get back to shore.

He did say there was a nice moment after he
had rescued all five of these I mean they're both
eros were doing that. He says, each one of the
people who he had saved came up to him and
shook his hand.

Creek Alliance, and he says he's never heard in all
of his time of ray swimming in the Newtown Creek.
So that's good. I guess it's getting cleaner. N ypd's
Financial Crimes Task Force sending out this dire warning, especially
to older New Yorkers about this scam that involves gold

bars that they're currently investigating. It involves a computer pop
up claiming to be from Microsoft saying that their computer
is infected with a virus and they need to call
a number to get it unlocked. And then when they do,
they have to then get some money to pay for
gold bars, and they can have to hand the gold bars.
I mean, most people wouldn't fall for this, but unfortunately
(31:47):
there are some who do. It's actually more than some
here in New York. In fact, one woman she gave
nine million dollars to these scammers. And most of these
scammers are overseas, but they do higher couriers here in
the US to pick up cash and gold bars, and
they say, that's what's going on here. So well, here's
what sounds like specific case targets the elderly. It begins
(32:09):
with a competer pop.

Up an important security message to unlock the computer, please
call support immediately.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Yeah, So people get that pop up and they call
the number, not knowing it's not real. And then these
people who are behind the scam, they'll call back and
they can make it look like they're calling from the
NYPD or something like that, and so people believe it's real,
and all of a sudden they're all out of all
kinds of money. The losses across the country from this
(32:36):
gold bar scam, they think it exceeds about one hundred
million dollars right. The amount of money to get in
with some of these victims are very, very staggering. Nine
million dollars on one shot. She loves her life savings.
She was ready to retire, just outrageous. Police have recovered
some gold bars during search worn busts and are hoping
to use the money from them to pay percentages of
(32:57):
restitution to some of the New York victims. Now, e'd say,
if you're received calls or computer messages like this, Just
hang up, log off, don't engage because likely it's totally
a scam. Did you see that Sean Ditty Combs was
in a prison fight? His release date has been pushed
back after he was involved in this fight last month.
(33:18):
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, did he will
now be released February twentieth, twenty twenty eight, instead of
January twenty fourth. Combs has been sent to solitary confinement
after the fight that started due to another inmate making
a remark towards him. I imagine inmates are probably trying
to start it up with him. You can only guess did.
(33:38):
He was previously sentenced to fifty months in prison after
his conviction on two prostitution charges back in October of
twenty twenty five. Maybe you heard this interview yesterday. Bruce
Blakeman was on with SID on Sid and Friends in
the morning, going after Mayor Mom Dottie saying that the
mayor should stay away from this year's nine to eleven commemorations.

They say. He says that the mayor's past associations with
some who have applauded the nine to eleven attacks are
beyond defensive, and that he should listen to those around
him who are saying don't go and stay away.

It's as if you know someone's having a wake and
they asked you not to go to the wake for
personal reasons, you wouldn't go. I don't think he should go.
But here's where I'm going to say, if he's hell
bent on going, turn your back on him.

Now. There is an online petition that has about eighty
thousand signatures that's asking the mayors to stay oway. Three
hundred of those signatures are relatives of the victims, with
a lot of people on that. And while we're talking
about the mayor, did you see this yesterday? So mayor
mom Donnie is originally from Uganda, right, And somebody unearthed
(34:47):
this video of him. So he's thirty six now, So
thirty is twenty four in this video. So that's twelve
years ago, thirty six. Twelve years ago, he was on
a tour moding his Disney movie. You know, his mother
is a movie director, and he was on this set
where they were doing one of these interviews with reporters,

a Hollywood reporter, and he was talking about the movie
and the music on it and listen to his accents.
So this is only twelve years ago. He's thirty six.
Now he was twenty four in this video. Now was
he putting on this accent or did he lose this
accent over the last twelve years.

mean having a dance move to a song is a
big thing, right. But I would say that Nigerians have
really patented that the Nigerians come out with a song

Fourth time in the thirty years of this contest the
number one spots goes to a Lincoln Place block. This
is in Crown Heights. It stretches from New York Avenue
to No Stran Avenue, and apparently these people all get

along really well, and so they create this beautiful block.

What they've done is just create this beautiful space that
celebrates joy and civic engagement, sustainability.

And neighbors say, there's nothing but greenery everywhere you look,
planted and cared for by the block's gardening committee, and

these portable generators, a mini oven, and then he has
a sign out front about how much each pizza cost.

who were trying it yesterday say it's pretty good pizza,

Neighbors race from their homes after an explosion in the
Bronx and off due the lifeguard to the rescue on
Long Island. A gold bar scam that has duped way
too many New Yorkers. Would you eat? A pizza made
in the trunk of a car? And a battle of
a birthday cake at a New Jersey restaurant has everybody
weighing in. All right, let's get into it. At five
(01:28):
old four, Let's go up to the Bronx where one
person dead eleven others injured, two of them critically after
an explosion and fired at a Bronx apartment building yesterday afternoon,
Danny Mercado says he barely escaped his second floor apartment
right next to the blast.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Got lucky.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
What I had was the ceiling floor roaming.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
I saw a path, apartment gone, and then I went
to check on the neigh books you had burned, and
then the fire started getting bigger and we came outside.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Now it's not clear one where this explosion, why it
took place. Of his five story buildings is two hundred
and ninth Street, right in the Norwood section.
Speaker 6 (02:05):
Collapse earth crakes.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
I've done Yeah, there were fair amount of neighbors who
say they were caught inside this building. They had to
just run for their lives to get out. The flames
moved incredibly quickly.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
She was like a shock.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
The fire was.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Closet, The whole closet was a flame. Now hours later,
maybe six hours later, we heard from the fire officials
and they said this explosion ripped the doors off hinges
of this apartment and the flames did go incredibly fast.
There were residents in this building that were begging firefighters
to go back in and get their pets, saying they
didn't care about their apartments, they just wanted their pets out.
(02:52):
This is the firefighters talking about this after the blaze
was put down.
Speaker 7 (02:56):
This was a very difficult fire on a very hot
and humid day. We had multiple people that needed to
be rescued out of the building. Our FDNY firefighters and
ems did an extraordinary job. There are multiple examples of heroism.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Now, it wasn't until five hours after the fire started
that search and rescue teams discovered that one person was
dead inside the building. To give us a whole lot
more detail about that. Among those critically injured who were
a forty eight year old woman who was at Jacobi Hospital.
One of those injured is a child who's under one,
but their injuries are being described as minor. Six firefighters injured,
(03:33):
including three serious injuries, battling this blaze. Now, the cause
of the fire, there's two different theories. One is a
gas explosion and one is another one of these potential
lithium ion battery malfunctions, which we've seen way too many
times in the city over the last couple of years.
I imagine in the next couple of hours we'll have
more on that fire and what started at five o six.
(03:56):
While we're talking fires, a twenty four year old's been
arrested now and connection to that fire that destroyed the
South Bushwick Reformed Church's beautiful landmark that it stood for
one hundred and seventy five years in Brooklyn. The arrest
bringing mixed emotions from members of that congregation who've been
searching for answers since the fire back in June. Here's
(04:18):
the reverend of that church, James E. Stewart.
Speaker 8 (04:21):
Because there as an arrest that's been made, then that
adds another layer of sadness and grief and anger is
shot of.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Course, I mean, this thing had been around one hundred
and seventy five years. So there's video apparently of a
man purchasing a lighter than using it set the fire
on the afternoon of June nineteenth. That blaze quickly spread
through the building's wooden structure, reducing the church to rubble.
Federal prosecutors now identifying this fire bug as twenty four
year old John Jones. He lives in Brooklyn. He has
(04:49):
no known connection to the congregation. The church has long
served and did as a gathering place for people in
the community.
Speaker 8 (04:57):
We have done graduation and proms, and weddings and baptisms
and ordinations and funerals and baptistful giveaways and holiday community mails.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
And just how stupid some random guy sets this thing
on fire. So now people in this community are saying, hey,
you live here, if you've moved into the community in
recent years, because it's seen some turnover, newer buildings going up.
They say it's time to hand over some cash to
help them build a new play.
Speaker 7 (05:25):
I'm hoping more on you people that could afford to
live here, donate something and be part of the community.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
And police telling us that they arrested Jones overnight Tuesday
into Wednesday after he was allegedly involved in the theft
of a sandwich in a soda from a CVS in
Midtown and then cops discovered there's a warrant for his
arrest in the Arson case, so he's expected to appear
in federal court in Brooklyn as soon as this morning.
News Time fontines there's going to be a Senate vote
(05:53):
today on whether the whole doctor Anthony Fauci and contempt
of Congress. The Senate Homeland Security Committee vote comes after
the former White House Health advisor invoked the Fifth Amendment
more than one hundred times during a hearing last week
about the COVID pandemic and the Advisive Council.
Speaker 9 (06:10):
I respectfully declined to answer based upon my rights under
the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Yeah. So, Fauci refused to answer questions, saying he believes
the committee chair and Republican Senator Ran Paul wants to
see him behind bars and is obsessed with him. Paul
accuses Fauci of covering up COVID's origins and of unnecessarily
closing schools across the contrary five point ten President Trump
slamming Michigan's Democratic nominee for Senate. The President claims Abdul

al sa Ed hates Jewish people and hates Israel. Now
he won. El saied the primary in Michigan on Tuesday
night into Wednesday morning.

out what's going to happen. All kinds of money's going
to be pourtant to this race for November. Matt Grossman,
he teaches political science at Michigan state. He has his
own thoughts on how this race may go.

He sort of has started pivoting early, making sure that
to have it known that.

He's talking about Elsa ed Year.

The socialist, that he is a capitalist that wants to reform,
that he's reaching out to people who are in the
DSA just as much as he's reaching out to people
who are Trump voters, and that you know he wants
to assemble. Has brought of a coola as possible.

Now l Sayed would be the first Muslim elected to
the Senate if he prevails in November. Matt Grossman thinks
the GOP has a candidate that can beat the Democrat.

Republicans are going to see that this is a real
pickup opportunity and they're not going to believe any polls
that show that else I ed is ahead if they
do show that. So you're going to have spending here
tell the end on both sides.

And there's incredible spending on that primary. Five twelve. President
Trump out west yesterday delivering a campaign style speech about
the economy. He was in Las Vegas, speaking to a
crowd at the Red Rock Casino and Resort. He touted
his no tax on tips policy, which is big, big
and popular in places like Las Vegas.

Right now, it's one of the best things. I mean,
it's one of the greatest things.

People are making a lot of money no tax on tips,
and it's great.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
And the President trying to ramp up his economic message
with the midterm elections less than four months way, his
several more of these types of events scheduled in the
coming mind.

The United States is on tracked export unprecedented two point
five trillion dollars in goods this year alone, something everyone
thought was impossible.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
And he says that's driving down prices.

Prescription drug prices with a down four or five, six
hundred think of it, six hundred percent.

Now the President out west on this swing. He spoke
at his Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes
and there was a thirty eight week old we had
told you about yesterday who had been arrested over the weekend,
who was walking the grounds armed with the gun, had
all kinds of guns in the trunk of his car,
and had all kinds of guns and weapons in his home.

He is facing a federal weapons charge.

Now Deakert Service, along with other federal and local partners
were at the Trump golf course preparing for the president's visit.
They observed what was a suspicious person acting suspiciously at
the location.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Now this was two days ahead of the president's visit.
Janine john Tail, that's his name. They searched his vehicle,
recovered a loaded pistol around in the chamber. A search
of his home turned up high powered firearms, ammunition, body armor,
and a notebook out. The question is was he there
to do something to the president? Now they have not
gotten as far as saying that's the case.

He identified himself as an employee of the state department.
He's not an employee of the State Department, and so
just very suspicious behavior. So we work together hand in hand,
and this is just an example of that work. And
so the sheriff's deputies were a huge part of this.
They were the ones who initially took them into custody.

Now Tail has been charged federally with possessing an unregistered
short barreled rifle. He's also pending state charges involving weapons
charges in a twenty twenty five robbery as a former
marine and interesting, it'll be interesting to see how this
whole thing plays out. In a moment, we'll head over
to Washington State where they have just a little bit
of containment on those wildfires that continue to burn. We'll

than one hundred million dollars in rewards for information leading
to the arrest of not only the five that were
just unsealed today, but three indicted previously unsealed cases against
additional CJNG.

former cartel leader who's known as El Menshow, who was
killed in a Mexican military raid back in February.

Least cartel members have been charged with a range of crimes,

for murders and attempted assassinations, procuring weapons, money laundering, and
deadly drug manufacturing and distribution.

Now, the problem is these five suspects are not currently
in US custody. They're searching for them. A new report
says at least twelve states now have reported cyber attacks
against their water systems that may be linked to IRAN
two in New Jersey that they won't tell us where
in New Jersey that was Patrick Kelly. He's chief security
off for a big security cour firm called league Ours.

He says the affected systems largely rely on Internet connected
systems that allow small staffs to operate these systems remotely,
and that's why I guess it's easier to hack into them.

We have to go and disconnect those and we have
to do a bit of a risk poster so that
we understand which ones are vulnerable and which ones aren't.

It's a little frightening to think that they're messing with
our water systems and there's no sign anything happened, but
just the fact that they got in.

Now we have disruption and we're having to do water
bowling advisories because we're reducing the pressure and we're not
able to make certain that things are purified the way

The good news is there's been no reports of any

the fact that they can hack in means they might
be searching to do something like that. The House Ethics
Committee has announced an investigation into Congressman Max Miller. Correspondent

the Ohio Republican's ex.

overwhelmingly advanced a short term government funding bill to prevent

help of a doctor. The act allows six New Yorker
sick New Yorkers, i should say, with six months to live,
to end their lives through medical assistance.

Now, that's Governor Hokel who witnessed her mom suffered from AOS,
and she said that it took years of intimate discussions
with bill sponsors, health experts, advocates, and most importantly, families
who've had similar firsthand experiences for her to sign off
on the SACK, which is now a law in New York.

This is about respecting deeply personal choices right, specifically at
the end of life, and giving terminally ill New Yorkers
more control over to the end of day.

That's someone who had advocated for this bill. In all
beneath so there is a mandatory waiting period of five
days between when a prescription is written and filled. You
have to record a video or audio of a request
by the patient for medical aid and dying. There's a
mandatory mental health evaluation. But there's a lot of hurdles

between the person doing saying they want to die and
being able to get the medications to die. Now, there's
a lot of people against this. They say this is
in moral There's others who worry that loved ones will
take their lives because medications to keep them alive will
bankrupt their families, and they say it'll be cheaper to
kill themselves.

We're making it much easier for people to to get
medicine to kill themselves than we are for them to
get medicine to improve their quality of life and prolong
their life, and that sends a really strong message.

Yeah, that's a huge problem. So this was an upsetting
story we did earlier this week, and now we're hearing
from the family Officer Rebecca de Paula. She was an
officer with the NYPDA. She headed down to the Dominican
Republic over the weekend to do a cosmetic procedure. It's
cheaper to do it in other countries. And while she
was undergoing this cosmetic surgery at a clinic in Santa Domingo,

she caught some sort of bacterial infection. We don't really
know all the details of it, but she passed away
just thirty one years old. Her family speaking out yesterday
about the loss of her.

And she was really like a big sister to me,
always available to give us advice. She was always available
to lead us onto the right track with Jesus.

What makes the story even more awful is Depaula leaves
behind three kids. She had joined the NYPD in twenty fifteen.
She had served in the forty sixth pre singing up
in the Bronx, where she had just been named three
months ago Officer of the Month five point two. Mayor
Mamdanie going hard against e bikes, those some of the
least of the dangerous illegal ones. Anyway, he held a

news conference yesterday. The mayor did says he sent cease
and desist letters that have gone out to online retailers
who are selling these e bikes and motorized scooters that
exceed the city's twenty mile per hour speed limit. And
we've seen some of these bikes on the street. They
go as high as thirty forty miles an hour, and
people don't have helmets on.

Our administration, through our Corporation Council, is sending a cease
and assist letter to more than forty online retailers that
have been selling these illegal vehicles.

Now, the mayor says, companies that don't comply will risk
fines of up to two thousand dollars per infraction. Some
of the companies getting these letters Amazon, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Wayfair,
you know the companies you've heard of.

These online retailers risk facing civil penalties of up to
two thousand dollars for each individual infraction.

So Mayor Mom Donnie, revealing the contents of these c

Letters demanding that they immediately end the sale of prohibited
motorized scooters and e bikes to New York City residents
and New York City business.

A great moment out at Robert Moses Beach on Long Island.
So this off goood duty lifeguard. His name is Brandon Collin.
He's out surfing in the early evening before it gets
dark with a sister, Cassidy, and all of a sudden

they hear screams from help from the water, and thank
god they're there because they're lifeguards. He paddles over and
he sees someone being pulled out in a rip card.

We heard some yelling from down the beach. Paddled over
and I saw, yeah, guy getting pulled out in a
repparent holding a boogy board, and I got over to him,
started to pull him in, and then I heard more
yelling down the beach and apparently four other patrons had
tried to jump in to help the initial guy and
they got swept out too.

Yeah, now all five of them are in the water struggling.
So Brandon and his sister Cassidy, one by one pluck
all four of these guys out of the ocean.

It was very dark at the time, and just before
the police arrived, a lot of the patrons on the
beach were they were shining their flashlights, just trying to
prove out a little light for us out there, because
it got dark fast and the rips were very strong,
so it took a while to get back to shore.

He did say there was a nice moment after he
had rescued all five of these I mean they're both
eros were doing that. He says, each one of the
people who he had saved came up to him and
shook his hand.

Creek Alliance, and he says he's never heard in all
of his time of ray swimming in the Newtown Creek.
So that's good. I guess it's getting cleaner. N ypd's
Financial Crimes Task Force sending out this dire warning, especially
to older New Yorkers about this scam that involves gold

bars that they're currently investigating. It involves a computer pop
up claiming to be from Microsoft saying that their computer
is infected with a virus and they need to call
a number to get it unlocked. And then when they do,
they have to then get some money to pay for
gold bars, and they can have to hand the gold bars.
I mean, most people wouldn't fall for this, but unfortunately
(31:47):
there are some who do. It's actually more than some
here in New York. In fact, one woman she gave
nine million dollars to these scammers. And most of these
scammers are overseas, but they do higher couriers here in
the US to pick up cash and gold bars, and
they say, that's what's going on here. So well, here's
what sounds like specific case targets the elderly. It begins
(32:09):
with a competer pop.

Up an important security message to unlock the computer, please
call support immediately.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Yeah, So people get that pop up and they call
the number, not knowing it's not real. And then these
people who are behind the scam, they'll call back and
they can make it look like they're calling from the
NYPD or something like that, and so people believe it's real,
and all of a sudden they're all out of all
kinds of money. The losses across the country from this
(32:36):
gold bar scam, they think it exceeds about one hundred
million dollars right. The amount of money to get in
with some of these victims are very, very staggering. Nine
million dollars on one shot. She loves her life savings.
She was ready to retire, just outrageous. Police have recovered
some gold bars during search worn busts and are hoping
to use the money from them to pay percentages of
(32:57):
restitution to some of the New York victims. Now, e'd say,
if you're received calls or computer messages like this, Just
hang up, log off, don't engage because likely it's totally
a scam. Did you see that Sean Ditty Combs was
in a prison fight? His release date has been pushed
back after he was involved in this fight last month.
(33:18):
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, did he will
now be released February twentieth, twenty twenty eight, instead of
January twenty fourth. Combs has been sent to solitary confinement
after the fight that started due to another inmate making
a remark towards him. I imagine inmates are probably trying
to start it up with him. You can only guess did.
(33:38):
He was previously sentenced to fifty months in prison after
his conviction on two prostitution charges back in October of
twenty twenty five. Maybe you heard this interview yesterday. Bruce
Blakeman was on with SID on Sid and Friends in
the morning, going after Mayor Mom Dottie saying that the
mayor should stay away from this year's nine to eleven commemorations.

They say. He says that the mayor's past associations with
some who have applauded the nine to eleven attacks are
beyond defensive, and that he should listen to those around
him who are saying don't go and stay away.

It's as if you know someone's having a wake and
they asked you not to go to the wake for
personal reasons, you wouldn't go. I don't think he should go.
But here's where I'm going to say, if he's hell
bent on going, turn your back on him.

Now. There is an online petition that has about eighty
thousand signatures that's asking the mayors to stay oway. Three
hundred of those signatures are relatives of the victims, with
a lot of people on that. And while we're talking
about the mayor, did you see this yesterday? So mayor
mom Donnie is originally from Uganda, right, And somebody unearthed

this video of him. So he's thirty six now, So
thirty is twenty four in this video. So that's twelve
years ago, thirty six. Twelve years ago, he was on
a tour moding his Disney movie. You know, his mother
is a movie director, and he was on this set
where they were doing one of these interviews with reporters,

a Hollywood reporter, and he was talking about the movie
and the music on it and listen to his accents.
So this is only twelve years ago. He's thirty six.
Now he was twenty four in this video. Now was
he putting on this accent or did he lose this
accent over the last twelve years.

So you guys, we don't really have as many dance
moves associated with a song, but we will always dance.
We're always dancing.

That's interesting, right. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden out with its
annual Greenest Block in Brooklyn winner and it's no surprise.
Fourth time in the thirty years of this contest the
number one spots goes to a Lincoln Place block. This
is in Crown Heights. It stretches from New York Avenue
to No Stran Avenue, and apparently these people all get
(36:20):
along really well, and so they create this beautiful block.
Speaker 19 (36:24):
What they've done is just create this beautiful space that
celebrates joy and civic engagement, sustainability.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
And neighbors say, there's nothing but greenery everywhere you look,
planted and cared for by the block's gardening committee, and
that's why they continue to win these awards.
Speaker 20 (36:42):
It's really nice to just be able to walk through
and you feel like you can breathe better because all
the foliage now and a smart car parked at the
corner of fifty fourth and Tenth Avenue here in Manhattan,
turning heads, stopping pedestrians in their tracks thanks to the
unmistakable smell of fresh stone fired pizza that's coming from
(37:02):
its trunk.

It's called the Pizza Pod and it's the idea of
the chef. His name is Bradley Alvelo, and he's selling
all kinds of pies out of the back of his car.
Speaker 5 (37:12):
This is New York City, so people have seen it all,
but I've noticed that everyone has to stop. They're like,
hold on, let me take a second and see what's
happening over here now?
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Inside the trunk of Vello stores olive oil, sauce and cheese,
and a pizza oven, a generator, you know, one of
these portable generators, a mini oven, and then he has
a sign out front about how much each pizza cost.
Speaker 5 (37:33):
I just happened to have this smart car, so I
just kind of hooked it up so it worked, and
here we.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
Are, no so I have to go try to people
who were trying it yesterday say it's pretty good pizza,
and he says, you know what, Until I know I
can really make a business out of this, I'm going
to keep selling it out of my car.
Speaker 5 (37:51):
This is New York City, so people have seen it all.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
But I've noticed said that before Buddy, he was saying
his retail spaces are so expensive that he says, maybe
more sense to continue to sell those pizza pies out
of the back of this truck.
