Speaker 5 (00:42):
Welcome back to a
Magical Life.
I'm your host, magic Barclay, and today I wanna talk to you
about first aid kits.
But first I'm gonna tell you astory.
I have lately become one of theclumsiest gardeners.
Ever known if there'ssecretaries to use to prune
something.
(01:03):
I will cut my hand.
If there's a knife being used tocut something, I will cut my
hand.
If there's something to belifted, I'm likely to drop it
down my legs and this has becomemy story for the past couple of
months.
I get cuts, scrapes, bruises allover me.
(01:24):
In fact, just today I managedto, whilst, uh, pruning my
potato plants prune my hand.
So.
Apart from the trail of drippingblood coming from my hands most
of the time, there is also someknowledge coming, and that is
what I'm going to share with youtoday.
(01:44):
Sorry for the graphic intro, butyou can imagine it's something
that is quite close to me at themoment.
So what are we talking abouttoday?
Well, we're going to talk aboutfirst aid kids.
Now I'm not talking bandaids andgores and you know, all that
kind of jazz.
I'm talking what can you haveclose to hand that will help?
(02:09):
Let's look at some plants first.
So with plants.
I have many growing in mygarden, of course,'cause that's
how I usually hurt myself.
But some of them can grow veryeasily in pots wild or as
companion plants in your gardento other things.
(02:32):
And some of those we're going totalk about now So let's talk
about the living part of yourfirst aid kit.
Now, these are plants that areeasy to grow.
They don't need a lot of water.
And they don't need a lot ofattention.
But what they do have is apowerhouse of help for you.
(02:53):
And the first one is calendula, also known as a wild marigold.
Calendula helps clean wounds, heel wounds, and soothe skin
irritations.
It's anti-inflammatory,antimicrobial.
It's great for cuts, scrapes, rashes, and burns.
It's quite cooling.
You can make a hydrozole.
(03:13):
From Calendula, so placing it insome purified water, letting it
sit and then straining it, andthat is great for your skin on
your face.
Also, it reduces swelling andredness in irritated skin,
actually promotes healing inminor cuts and abrasions and
calend.
(03:34):
Believe it or not, is a hugepollinator retractor.
So a lot of the good bugs inyour garden are going to love
it.
In fact, your chickens can eatit too.
So I pick Calen flowers becauseonce you've got Calen, got it
forever, and I will give thoseflowers.
To my chooks, and what Iactually do is I put them in
(03:56):
their water.
So just in the bottom of thewater dishes, I'll put calendula
flowers that will make ahydrozole for them and they pick
out the flowers and eat them aswell.
Another one is lavender, alsoknown as nature's stitches and
lavender.
Apart from having a lot of.
(04:18):
Functional medicine, beneficialproperties can really help with
burns.
Insect bites stings the oil in.
It can reduce stress andheadaches.
It helps you sleep.
You can dry some lavender andput it under your pillow, but in
our first aid kit, we can applyit topically to help reduce
(04:38):
inflammation and promote.
Wound healing.
How do I know?
Because I've been using it thispast week.
Yaro is our next one.
Now, I did mention quitegraphically that I have been
cutting my hands open with myur, and so what I have been
doing instantly when I've madethe cut.
(04:59):
I jump around and I swear alittle, and then I go to my
yarrow plant, and what I will dois I will pick off some leaves,
put them in my mouth, chew themup, mix them with my, with my
saliva, and spit that poltus.
Onto my cut.
Yarro is a tic, so it stopsbleeding.
(05:20):
It's also known as soldiers' warbecause back in World War II it
was growing quite wild, and ifthey had injuries, they would
put yarro on it, so it stops thebleeding and promotes the
healing, reduces inflammation.
It can shrink the tissue aroundthe cut area, and that helps
(05:40):
soothe the area.
Now another good living firstaid plant is comfrey, also known
as bone knit.
It's actually essential forhealing fractures, sprains, and
muscle damage.
Again, another one you can giveto your chickens.
(06:02):
They love comfrey leaves.
And so my experience withcomfrey was, ooh, few years ago
now, when one of my sons wasturning 21.
I managed to kick somethingwhile I was cleaning the house
two weeks before his birthdaywhere I wanted to wear some
fantastic high heels, and Ibroke my toe.
(06:24):
Now what did I do?
I made a poltus of comfrey.
This time I didn't chew it upand spit it out.
I put it in my mortar and pestlewith some clean water, not tap
water, and I made a littlepoltus out of it.
I wrapped that ulti around mytoe.
I then wrapped that in papertowel and I put a plastic bag on
(06:48):
it, and that's how I slept fortwo weeks every single night.
And after two weeks, my toe wasbetter.
That was after people telling meA broken toe takes six weeks
usually.
And believe it or not, I wore myhigh heels to my son's birthday.
Not something I'd recommendafter a broken toe, but still I
could do it.
And so I did.
(07:09):
Now comfrey helps reduceswelling.
It does help support tissuerepair, and it is great for
sprains and strains, butfantastic for small broken
bones.
Now, don't.
Get me wrong here.
If you've got a broken leg andyour bone's sticking out,
comfrey's probably not gonna beable to do a heck of a lot for
(07:31):
you.
You wanna go to a doctor forthat one.
But if it's a broken toe or abroken finger or something like
that, or a sprain or a strain, comfrey is your best friend.
It has high Allantoin, which isa composite in the Compre that
helps.
The healing now, another one isaloe vera.
(07:53):
We've all heard it soothe burns, but it's also good for insect
bites.
It's good for abrasions andcuts, and it will actually help
prevent scarring.
It has immediate cooling relief, and alle juice is also good.
If you have a very upset tummy, another one here is plantain.
(08:15):
Now, here in Australia, it'ssummer while I'm recording this
and everything's dry and thelittle plantain flower heads
have dried out and they'resticking out above everything
else'cause nothing else is talland growing.
But the plantain flower heads.
Now plantain is very versatileon the skin.
(08:36):
It can treat bug, bite sting, skin irritation.
It actually draws out toxins.
It reduces swelling and speedsrecovery.
It's really good for skinconcerns and you can make
plantain into a tus to sootherashes and insect stings.
It's antibacterial, preventsinfection, but it's also.
(09:01):
I love plantain for thisanti-parasitic.
So I mentioned my chickensbefore.
I will pull off plantain, flowerheads and buds and their leaves,
and I will give that to mychooks because it's a natural
dewormer for them.
I actually give it, uh, to mycats as well, and they love it.
(09:22):
Crushed up.
Of course.
And our last for this section.
Living first aid plant ischamomile now.
Chamomile again helps you restand sleep.
It helps, um, ease digestivediscomfort, soothes the skin and
(09:43):
minor wounds from irritation.
It's really gentle on kids.
Um, soothes, colic and otherminor ailments.
It can reduce redness andirritation in inflamed skin
conditions.
Of course, chamal tea isfantastic when you pick the
chamomile.
If it's Roman chamal, it smellslike bubblegum, so it also makes
(10:05):
you very happy and chamal.
Again, I do pick and make teaout of, I will.
Also, uh, dot it around my houseso that my cat, indoor cats stay
nice and calm, and it's anotherone that goes out to the
Chuckies.
Now let's see what else we have.
(10:26):
We've gone from the garden.
We're going into the kitchen foryour first aid kit, and of
course top of the kitchen list.
Is honey antibacterialantimicrobial, it's wound
healing.
You can use it on bee stings, believe it or not.
And so you just apply a smallamount of raw honey to the wound
(10:49):
or the burn, and that will helpwith.
The problem.
It's antibacterial, as I said, very powerful Addition to your
first aid kit, first thing youneed to do if you get a head
cold or a flu is have a spoonfulof honey.
It is also wonderful.
I'm going to say wonderful withtea Now, honey.
(11:13):
Off the store shelf, probablynot so great.
You really wanna be carefulwhere you get your honey from.
A lot of honey on the storeshelf is fake, so you really
wanna know where that honey'scoming from.
Okay.
What else do we have in thekitchen?
(11:34):
We have ginger, which of coursewe know treats nausea and
digestive issues, how to use it.
Chop up a piece of fresh ginger, make a tea out of it.
It will help you straight away.
It's also great with.
Headaches and tummy aches, andwe also have garlic.
(11:55):
Now, garlic is number three inthe kitchen.
First aid kit.
That helps with everything.
Again, if you have chickens, youcan give them garlic.
Don't give it to cats and dogs, but you can give it to any bird.
They will love it.
Okay, what else do we need inour first aid kit?
(12:19):
We need colloidal silver.
So what do I do when I have acut from my secretaries going
through my finger or cuttingmyself with a knife by accident
or whatever it is, droppingmetal down my legs?
I once I have used my yaro andit stopped bleeding, I clean it
(12:41):
with colloidal silver spray, andI use this on my pets as well.
So as soon as they have a anirritation or an injury, get
sprayed with colloidal silver.
This helps clean the area.
This is your disinfectant.
Now, if you prefer to use amedicinal chemist, sport
(13:02):
disinfectant.
Have at it, really go for it.
But in my family we usecolloidal silver.
And what we do with that is wealso clean anything else that is
come in contact with us duringthe injury.
So yes, I use colloidal silveron my UR when they go through my
(13:24):
finger.
Why?
Because I don't want.
Whatever is in my blood now allover my secateurs, and then
they're gonna go yucky andrusty.
So I will clean them withcolloidal silver, give them a
quick wipe off.
Actually, I usually get the kidsto that'cause I'm dealing with
my cut fingers and really usecolloidal silver for anything
(13:46):
that needs a good clean.
Now we've talked about.
Some of our first aid kit.
Another part of it is essentialoils.
What can you have in youressential oil first aid kit?
Well, I have lavender, ofcourse.
Rosemary.
Rosemary is brilliant again forheadaches, feeling a bit brain
(14:09):
foggy.
It's really, really good.
I have citronella oil.
Now.
Why do I have it in my first aidkit?
Well.
I have a family member that'shighly allergic to mosquito
bites, and so the citronellaoil.
Reminds me in my first aid kitthat before this family member
(14:30):
needs the first aid kit, I'mgoing to put drops of citronella
oil around all the doorways.
And I use it on paper towel inmy chook area as well.
And it just helps keep some ofthose mossies and bugs away.
Another one is lemongrass oil,and the reason I have that in my
first aid kit is it's the firstoil I diffuse in the home.
(14:55):
Why?
Because again, it keeps thosenasty bugs away.
The biting bugs.
It also freshens the air.
It makes you feel good.
It's very uplifting.
And the other essential oil Ihave in my first aid kit is
lemon.
And in fact, I have a bottle oflemon essential oil with me at
all times because if I'm out andabout and I don't have my water.
(15:20):
And I have to drink tap water.
I'm gonna want a couple of dropsof lemon oil in that.
So the limo in that is verybeneficial for all health.
It kind of neutralizes some ofthe nasties in the water.
Now, traditional first aid kitmust haves.
(15:40):
You must have some gloves.
You must have Steri strips.
Why?
Because that is going to holdyour finger together when you
put the UR through it, I cantell you that much.
I will tell you, for every deepgash I've given my hands, I have
never had stitches, not once.
(16:01):
Most people would've gone andgotten stitches.
No, I use my arrow, then I usemy colloidal silver.
Then I cut some Steri strips andI hold it together in a cross
pattern, and then I put abandaid around that one.
And then if I need to wet myhand or anything in the next 24
hours, I'm going to put a gloveover that.
So I'm not taking the bandageoff.
(16:24):
I'm allowing it all to heal to.
Seal up, and I'm going toprotect it with a glove.
So you need a thermometer, youneed scissors, you need steri
strips, you need gloves, and youneed bandaids.
What I don't have in there is Idon't have aspirin or Panadol or
(16:46):
panadine or any of those.
I don't have anti-nauseatablets.
I also don't have eye drops.
Why?
Because those things can bevery, very, very toxic, and so I
just don't want those in myfirst aid kit.
(17:07):
Now, other things, for the firstaid kit.
That array must have.
We've got the plants, we've gotthe kitchen stuff, we've got the
basics for a physical first aidkit.
We've got some essential oils.
And the other thing is you, yes, you're part of your first aid
(17:28):
kit because what you do whensomething happens will actually
affect.
How you heal.
And so with this, I will say, asI said a little earlier, when I
cut myself, I do jump up anddown and scream and carry on,
(17:49):
probably swear a little, andthen I tell myself.
That's okay.
It was an accident.
Get over it.
Don't beat yourself up about it.
It's happened.
Move on.
This is really important becauseoften when we injure ourselves,
when someone around us isinjured, We look to place blame,
(18:10):
and it could be placing it onyourself.
Be placing it on someone else, and guess what?
That's just not helpful.
It's not going to help you heal.
In fact, it's going to prolongthe injury.
It's going to make you feel evenworse, which is going to affect
your gut, and it's going toaffect how you move your bowels
(18:32):
and it's going to affect a lotof things, and it's going to
cause a trauma, which you aregoing to remember next time you
hurt yourself.
And so then it's gonna build onitself and it's gonna get worse.
So when things happen, you justneed to let them go.
Do what you need to scream, shout, punch, something, not
(18:52):
someone something.
Swear.
Jump up and down.
Whatever it is that you need todo to get it out.
Then and there, do that.
And then it's done.
I'm looking at my cut finger nowas we speak, and it's not
pretty.
It's really not pretty.
I can tell you that.
I can see exactly where I cut itand how deep I cut it, but the
(19:15):
fact is.
That was this morning and nowI'm talking to you and I'm
learning something and I'mteaching something from a moment
that actually felt prettyhorrible at the time.
Doesn't mean I'm ever gonna doit again.
It doesn't mean that will I everdo it again?
Quite possibly, to be honest,I'm, you know, I just haven't
(19:35):
been watching what I've beendoing, but have I made this mean
anything?
Apart from really good fodderfor talking to you today.
No means nothing.
It has no effect on mewhatsoever.
And this is where we need to getto.
When there's a trauma or aninjury, we can't allow it to
(19:56):
keep hurting us.
And this is part of your firstaid kit.
You.
Your thoughts are powerful, sodo that.
Now, I did mention I don't likeeye drops.
The reason being.
They can be quite toxic.
What do I use instead?
I will use salty water.
(20:18):
I will use my colloidal silverspray, or I would just blink a
lot because the more you canwash whatever is in your eyes
out really quickly, the betteroff you'll be.
And I will tell you often whileI'm in the garden, I flick dirt
into my eyes.
I know I need to wash that outreally, really quickly.
(20:42):
So that is exactly what I do.
I don't use eyedrops for it.
I will use water.
I'll use colloidal silver, I'lluse salt water, whatever I have
at hand.
And you know, this is reallyimportant.
That by all means, if you wantto use stuff from a chemist, go
and do that.
But if you wanna move to a morenatural.
(21:04):
Way of being your first aid kithas to reflect that because
guess what?
This first aid kit is going tobe something that you go to
quite often, and so it reallyneeds to reflect how you wanna
live.
Now, something I didn't mentionin my first aid kit, and that is
(21:26):
a binder.
I have two binders in my firstaid kit.
One is activated charcoal.
I mix it with some water to forma paste.
I apply it topically, or I willput it in some water and I will
drink it.
It will bind to any nasties.
Certainly very good if you'vegot a bit of a tummy bug as
well, or if you've ingestedsomething you shouldn't have.
(21:49):
And the other one I use isfulvic and IC minerals, and I
use that in a liquid form.
And so I make structured waterevery morning to start my day,
and that just.
Binds to some of the nastiesthat might be in my system and
gets them out.
Now, fulvic and IC minerals, ifyou don't have colloidal silver,
(22:10):
you can use those on an injury.
So there's just a few things inyour first aid kit to make a
more natural first aid kit.
And just remember, you are a bigpart of this when accidents
happen.
They are exactly that.
Accidents.
Now I'm going to leave you withthat one today.
