How are women shaping the future of firearm storage and building supportive communities in the shooting industry? In this episode recorded live at SHOT Show 2026, hosts Erica Chin and Maggie Reese talk with Amanda and Alexa from Hang AR and Adventure Gear South. Amanda explains how her passion for shooting led her to leave corporate life, open a gun store in Florida, and engineer innovative firearm accessories. The group discusses how female-owned gun stores create a comfortable space for new shooters to ask questions without feeling judged.

The conversation focuses on the power of mentorship, whether it involves guiding new business owners, learning how to hunt, or helping a friend on a fishing trip. Amanda also demonstrates the latest Hang AR products, including new lockable designs and quick-detach M-LOK mounts that help gun owners maximize space inside their safes or on wall displays. The episode wraps up with a look at Hang AR's ongoing sponsorship of WOMA's "She Never Quit" event, which raises funds for female veterans, and first responders charities. Listeners can explore their products or connect directly by visiting hangersystem.com or adventuregearsouth.com.

SPEAKER_02 (00:14):
Welcome to Amateurs and Experts Podcast.
We are at 2026 Shot Show,Thursday morning, and uh we're
in the Otis Technology Booth.
I am Erica Chin, and I'm herewith Maggie Reese.
And we are excited to have HangAR and Amanda and Alexa.

(00:37):
Alexa.
Yeah.
And um we are excited to talk tothem.
They're a sponsor.
They came to She Never Quit forthe first time this year, and we
have so much to talk about.

SPEAKER_01 (00:47):
Absolutely.
Thank you.
Thanks for having us.

SPEAKER_02 (00:50):
Yeah, we're excited to have you here.
Um Amanda, you have like severalcompanies now, pretty much under
one roof.
Yeah.
Yeah, absolutely.
And Alexa is like your sidekickand the and uh she is marketing
everything.

SPEAKER_01 (01:08):
She's like, she just whatever we need.
She steps in, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (01:12):
And that is so cool.
And we're we're glad to have youboth here.
And we're glad that you guyscame to She Never Quit this
year, and you're a sponsor, andI mean all the things.
So uh tell us about how how yougot started, because you weren't
in the industry at first.

SPEAKER_01 (01:28):
No, um, well, like how do I make that a quick
story?
But yeah, yeah.
So um so I I grew up obviously, you know, in the outdoors.
We're both country girls.
Um, you know, I grew up insouthern Ohio, um hunting,
fishing my whole life.
Um, but after I got married, Igot more into like shooting as a

(01:48):
hobby.
Oh um and you know, learned morethat way.
And I I actually worked in incorporate for years um and we
started building a business onthe side and doing um retail in
the industry, uh firearmsaccessories and things for a few
years, and started building amachine shop as a hobby we do in
C and C machining.
You have some intense hobbies asa hobby.

(02:14):
And uh eventually it just Idon't know, life led us to the
place where we were just like, you know what, um I'm gonna just
start doing this full time.
So I left corporate life and Ium have so we do have we open a
brick and mortar uh gun store,so I run a gun store full time
during the day, and we run amachine shop full-time as well.
So at nine weekends, and yeah.

(02:36):
Um and so it just evolved reallywith time out of a out of a
passion and a hobby.
And um we invented the hangerproduct, which uh we do a lot of
custom manufacturing and it kindof led us to doing some things
for ourselves that we just feltlike we needed, and that's how
the hangar product came around.
Um, and then we kind of turnedthat into a business, and now
we've been at SHOT Show.

(02:56):
This is our third year umdisplaying a SHOT show.
Uh we got introduced to Wilma, and she never quit over the last
few years through a mutualcontact.
Yeah, Jessica.
Yeah, Jessica, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (03:08):
We had her on yesterday.

SPEAKER_01 (03:09):
Oh, awesome! And she is just she's amazing, and she
helped us launch some of ourmarketing, she helped us with
our initial packaging, everything, and then she
introduced us to Wilma, and wejust love what you guys do.
We love what you do for umgetting women into outdoor
sports and making sure that theyhave somewhere that they can
learn from people and women whoreally know what they're doing.

(03:30):
Um, so yeah, we're just happy tobe in a place where we can help
somehow.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_03 (03:34):
Well, a lot of women don't have the experience of
growing up hunting and fishingand whatnot.
So and then it can beintimidating to get into it
later on in life if you justweren't kind of born and raised
in that environment.
And you probably know that fromyour own brick and mortar.
It it it's intimidating for awoman to walk in by herself and
then you know, 20 men aretelling her what to buy and

(03:57):
pushing her in a certaindirection.
Or not talking to her at all, ornot talking to her at all
because they don't see her as acustomer, they think she's just
there with somebody else.

SPEAKER_01 (04:07):
You know, and I love being a female gun store owner.
Um, I do get a ton of uh womenshooters, some experience and
some brand new, and I get to,you know, treat them like they,
you know, can they either knowwhat they're talking about or
they can learn, and it's notgiving them that treatment of
you need you need some guy herewho's gonna help you figure it
out, you know.

SPEAKER_02 (04:26):
That's so cool that you can be a mentor to those
ladies.

SPEAKER_01 (04:30):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
So it's a it's it's a cool placeto be in.
And the store's only been openuh as a brick and mortar for a
couple years.
Um but I would say a big part ofour uh clientele has become
women, so the word's isspreading, so that's great.

SPEAKER_02 (04:45):
And where do you where is it?

SPEAKER_01 (04:47):
We're in Tampa Bay, so we're in Seminole, Florida,
in Pinellas County.

SPEAKER_02 (04:51):
Uh huh.

SPEAKER_01 (04:51):
So and the name?
It's Adventure Gear South.
So that's awesome.
Yeah, check outadventuregeouth.com.
You can see all about it.

SPEAKER_02 (04:58):
Yeah, that is so cool.

SPEAKER_01 (04:59):
Thank you.

SPEAKER_02 (04:59):
I love that uh I know we talked a little bit
about um mentoring and you know,Wilma is big on mentoring.
Um I know like my first hunt waswith Deb, and she was my mentor,
you know, and that was in my 40sbecause I didn't grow up
hunting.
My dad was a fisherman, he tookme sometimes, but I was like the
annoying youngest kid.
So I didn't get to go thatoften.

(05:22):
And um he was hunter he huntedalso, but I never got to go.
And um, it wasn't until my 40sthat I I had Deb kind of say,
Hey, you know, come come along, come along.
And um, it was so cool.
And we all need a mentor.

SPEAKER_04 (05:37):
Absolutely.

SPEAKER_02 (05:37):
And we or we need somebody to say, Hey, come
along.
Yeah, and um last night we wereyou not only mentor ladies in
your shop, but we were talkingabout in business also.

SPEAKER_01 (05:47):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
I've for years now, especiallyit started to kind of in my
corporate life.
I was involved in some women'sbusiness groups and would do
some mentoring, and um, I stilldo it now.
I do some community networkingand mentoring uh through uh
business networkinginternational.
And um which is something Ilove, you know, and it's the
same thing, like you said, Ithink all of us we need somebody
who's pulling us up who is alittle more experienced than us,

(06:08):
and somebody who's a little lessexperienced that we're pulling
along with us.
And that way, you know, thateverybody says that rising tide
just raises all ships becausewe're all just kind of pulling
each other along.
So I yeah, I love that feeling.
Yeah.
Especially, I mean, I certainlydon't know it all.
I mean, yeah, I'm a gun storeowner, but you know, I I will
say I really haven't had a lotof chance to hunt since you know

(06:29):
I was in my teens, and so um,you know, that whole side of it,
I I still feel like I'mlearning.
I'm learning from people who aredoing it more nowadays because
technology has changed, um youknow, firearms have changed,
ammunitions, everything.
So I still have a lot to do.
Yeah, scopes, oh my gosh, yeah.
Uh thermals, right?
Yeah, absolutely.
So I'm I'm still learning a tonfrom people who are out there
doing it now.

(06:49):
Whereas, you know, in my olderyears, I I spent a lot more of
my time fishing than I dohunting.
So you know, yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_03 (06:55):
So Eric Erica took me fishing.
So that's exciting, you know.
And we all have those thingsthough that you know we just
don't get enough time to do.
And um, and I I told this storybefore, but I I was uh a little
bit of a princess on the boat, and I and I was like, we we all
have our limits.

SPEAKER_00 (07:15):
So I won't touch fish, but I die to go fishing
all the time.
I will not touch them, andthat's my thing.
I always say, I want to gofishing, but I won't unhook it
because especially living on thebay, like you never know that
these fish teeth.
And I'm like, I'm not here.
And so I've gone out oncharters, and the charter guides
are like she outfishes thevoice, but I'm always like, I'll

(07:38):
bring it out and I'll hold itand I hand it over and I'm like,
here we go.

SPEAKER_03 (07:41):
You are my twin soul right now, okay?
Like, I don't I love fishing, Ilove being on the boat, I love
drinking beer.

SPEAKER_00 (07:48):
But I will even like if you use sh like shrimp as
bait, I'll do that.
Like it's just something aboutthe will you bait the hook?
If it's if depends on if we'reyeah, what we're if it's like
shrimp things like that, yes.
But like if it's if we go p ifwe go catch minnows before we go
out, I won't touch it.

SPEAKER_03 (08:06):
Okay, so you and I are gonna go fishing with Erica
because I've already trainedher.
I've already trained her thatshe has to hook my fish for me.
Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (08:14):
Oh yeah, Erica, we'll be we'll be the workhorse.

SPEAKER_00 (08:19):
Okay.
I'm gonna hill her in the oceantoo, because I will like I'm so
glad where we live, it's clearwater because if there's fish
even come close to me, I I'mout.

SPEAKER_03 (08:29):
So all right.
Well, this just goes back.
You you gotta have mentors andthen you gotta have the people
that pull you along.

SPEAKER_02 (08:37):
I feel like I did pull you along, Maggie.
You did in the end, you werehooking your own bait, uh, you
know, not happily.
Maybe your own hook.
You were stopped crying, stoppedscreaming.
She actually held the fish for apicture.

SPEAKER_01 (08:52):
You had your dream in me and you weren't throwing
up off the side of the boat.

SPEAKER_03 (08:55):
She she was the one.
She was like, tear this, dothis, don't forget about this.
And I was like, Oh yeah, this iskind of a big deal.
Wear a coat.
You need a windbreaker.
I'm like, oh yeah, thanks.
Erica.
We were at the San Franciscoband.

SPEAKER_01 (09:07):
You were mentored, you get to be a mentor, awesome.
Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (09:10):
We'll come to the golf.
I'm down very different.
I'm down.
It's hot.
It's you won't need a coat withus.
You'll need sunscreen though.

SPEAKER_02 (09:20):
And we actually went to iCast.

SPEAKER_03 (09:22):
Yeah, that was super fun.
So you end up meeting people inthe industry and then they kind
of introduce you to other stuffand other excitement.

SPEAKER_02 (09:31):
And Mackie just sat back and drank beer.

SPEAKER_03 (09:33):
And and you know what?
We all have our skill set.

SPEAKER_01 (09:36):
I'm like, don't you love the outdoors industry?
It's so friendly and there'sbeer everywhere.

SPEAKER_03 (09:42):
Like, wait a second.
That's why we're in the Otisbooth too.
Because they do beer onWednesdays.

SPEAKER_01 (09:48):
Oh, I see the sign right here.
Yes.

SPEAKER_03 (09:52):
Happy hour, four o'clock.
But tell us about the products.
You brought some stuff with us.
I did, thank you.
Tell us about what you brought.

SPEAKER_01 (09:59):
Okay, so anybody who's not familiar with hangar,
I thanks to you guys, I've beenon here a couple times, so we've
gotten the word out of it.
But so the hangar product, it'skind of a play on words, it's
hang-AR.
Um started away, started out asan AR upper receiver mount
because there really isn't anyin it that exists out there.
We're the only mount that Istill have seen for upper
receivers.
So AR10, AR15s.

(10:21):
Um, and then people were kind oflike, well, that's great, but
can I hang a whole rifle,please?
Um and so we last year at SHOTShow we launched our stealth
mount.
And so it actually attaches, wehave some different options now.
So attach attaches to either anMLOC attachment point or a key
mod attachment point, and we'reworking on Picatinny.
Um so any any firearm doesn'thave to be an AR, but any

(10:43):
firearm that has an attachmentpoint, which most of them
nowadays do, except for maybeyou know, some of your pure
older style, like hunting riflesor something.
Um and then so I don't know ifyou have the camera somewhere as
each other, but it's got it.

SPEAKER_04 (10:57):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (10:58):
Um so this is kind of our uh one of the styles.
I think this is MLOC.
And so what we've launched forthis year, we have two in the
new product center.
Um we try to kind of innovate, especially we're a small, pretty
agile company, and there'salways way to improve.
So we try to make sure we'reinnovating through the year so
we have something new to bringto SHOT Show.
Um, so this year the mount isnow lockable.

(11:21):
That was a concern.
Um obviously, I mean, everybodyknows their situation.
You know whether you can orcan't just hang a gun on the
wall in your house depending onyour situation, what state
you're in, whether you havesmall children that you're
worried about, things like that.
So we did make the lock nowlockable, so it will lock onto
the wall using any standardcable gun lock, so it makes it
really cheap and easy forsomebody to just they can pull

(11:42):
the cable gun lock out of theirgun case and lock it on the wall
if they need to.
Um and then we also releasedthis year um the quick detach
mount.
So there are two opposite sides.
One locks on and you know it'syou can't get to the other one,
uh, gives you super fast andeasy access.
So this is a spring-loaded, Ikeep hitting this microphone.

(12:04):
This is a spring loaded um andit so it clips right into the
MLOC and then hangs on the wall, and you can just pop off the
whole thing so you don't have toworry about leaving anything on
your rifle.
Some people even though ouroriginal style has just a base
that stays on the rifle, it'sreally low profile, you can
hardly see it, but some peopleare like, I don't want to leave

(12:25):
anything on my rifle.
Um so this can go completely onand off in one quick movement.
And so those are our newproducts for this year.
So far, really well received.
Um it's exciting.
Um the the quick detach is aprototype, so we're not um gonna
start shipping until probablythe spring.
Um so we're taking kind ofpre-orders for that here at SHOT
Show.

SPEAKER_02 (12:45):
And besides SHOT Show, how can they pre-order
that?

SPEAKER_01 (12:48):
So we um are you taking pre-orders?
Yeah, we are taking pre-orderson our website too.
Um so you can go to probably theeasiest is hangersystem.com,
H-A-N-G-A-R System.com, andeverything's right there in the
shop.
And then um, yeah, all thedifferent styles of a receiver
mounts.
We have adapters for differentwall types, um, magnets for the

(13:08):
side of the safe, slat wall, things like that.

SPEAKER_02 (13:11):
So you guys have evolved.

SPEAKER_01 (13:13):
We have evolved.
We have I'm like, oh, I think wehave like a dozen SKUs now.
How did that happen?

SPEAKER_03 (13:19):
But I love that you you filled a niche that was just
totally not being served.
Thank you.
You know, I think that's reallycool, is is to see something
you're like, okay, this ismissing right here.
This is missing, you know, inthe industry, and we're gonna be
the ones that do it.

SPEAKER_01 (13:34):
Thank you.
Yeah, yeah, it's awesome.
And the fun part about doingthings like shot, some of the
other shows that we do is thatjust educating the public
because it is a brand newproduct.
A concept, yeah.
Concept and people kind of lookat it, go, what am I looking at?
What is this?
What's happening here?
So we kind of get to talk peoplethrough it and explain it.
And then we've had a lot of fun, like Wilma helping us.
We've had some YouTubers andstuff who've been getting it out

(13:55):
there and so it's fun.
Yeah, so it's growing, it's youknow, we're still we're still in
our infancy, but I feel likethere's so many places still to
take it.
Absolutely.
Yeah, yeah.
So thank you.

SPEAKER_02 (14:08):
And with I mean, uh with this system, it's just
easy.
It's easy to get to get to.
I didn't realize you had magnetsnow for the safe and all that
stuff.

SPEAKER_01 (14:18):
Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (14:18):
I mean, how cool is that?

SPEAKER_01 (14:20):
And now with your safes, and it's so the magnets
can be used on the outside orthe inside because a lot of
safes have exposed metal inside.
Um and or you can, you know, depending on your comfort level
and where it's at, whether it'supper or the rifle, you can hang
it right on the outside of thesafe.
Um, and then we also have likethe square tactical walls, um,
some of the uh slatted tacticalwalls are now being installed

(14:43):
inside the safes, so ouradapters will fit those.
Um, so it even gives you extrahanging options within your
safe.
Because that's one thing thatyou run out of room.
You run out of room.

SPEAKER_03 (14:53):
Well, I was I was just saying, you are giving
people permission to buy morefirearms.

unknown (14:58):
That's it.

SPEAKER_03 (15:01):
We will find space, we will create space for you
because I mean we joke aboutthis all the time.
It's like I can't buy any moreguns because they don't fit in
the safe, you know, and I don'twant to buy another safe.
But you're saying, oh no, we canfit more in there.
We can hang them anywhere.

SPEAKER_01 (15:18):
That's one of our little lines for our dealers
that sign on.
We're like, tell your customerswhen they come in and go, Oh, I
just don't have room for anothergun.
Oh, I got you.
Yes, I got you.

SPEAKER_02 (15:25):
We'll take care of that.
I know.
I know.
Now you have safe magnets, soyeah, no, just like a fridge
magnet.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_03 (15:38):
So you buy your Christmas present, which is the
gun, and then you have yourstocking stuffer.
Yeah, absolutely.

SPEAKER_04 (15:46):
Absolutely.
That's great.
I love it.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (15:49):
That's so fun.

SPEAKER_01 (15:50):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (15:51):
And then uh what's uh what's next?

SPEAKER_01 (15:53):
You have uh, yeah, um, like I said, the big thing
is so we're working on Picatinnyfor this year.
Um we do have a lot, it seemslike it never ends because as
soon as you create something, people are like, oh that's
great, but what about it?
Yes.
And then you and as a company, you have to think, okay, is
there enough demand for this?

(16:14):
Is it is it worth putting ourtime and attention into?
Um and sometimes I mean it'swe're small and agile enough and
we do everything ourselves.
We we prototype, we 3D print, webuild.
Um and so sometimes we go downrabbit trails, we probably
shouldn't, but you know.
Um but we picketunny isdefinitely a big one, so that
that's gonna be a big one forthis year.
Um I think continuing tofine-tune the quick detach, uh,

(16:37):
because it's um gonna be readyto like set to ship in the
spring, and we're we'refine-tuning some stuff with with
the spring system andeverything.
Um and then uh I feel like I'mforgetting something.
There was something else that wewere talking about from Shot
next year, but I think thosewill be the big ones.
That's awesome.
Yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_02 (16:54):
So when you come to Shot, do you actually get some
really great feedback and likeoh take it back and go, oh, we
just we might be able to dothis.

SPEAKER_01 (17:02):
Yeah, I think that's the cool thing about about Shot
is you get the two differentviewpoints.
So some of the other shows, likeif you do a retail show, you're
getting the consumer end.
And so you're getting uh fromtheir side, if they're thinking
about putting this in theirhome, what they're visualizing,
what they're thinking.
And then at Shot, you're gettingthat industry viewpoint.
People who's saying, How do Isell this?

(17:23):
Or how do I use this in my ownbusiness, or how do I so oh my
gosh, so much information.
And people, that's the coolthing about SHOT Show is um
people love small new companiesand new products, and they they
want to help and they want to,you know, give you they want to
give you feedback and they loveto be involved in the process
when they know that you're gonnatake their feedback and go do

(17:45):
something with it.

SPEAKER_02 (17:46):
Isn't that the truth?
I feel like Shot Show, um,everybody, you know, kind of the
uh mentorship, everybody's hereto build each other up.
You know, there isn't um it it'sjust like a big family.

SPEAKER_01 (17:59):
Yep.

SPEAKER_02 (17:59):
And um you know, everybody's everybody's there to
support each other.
I think the the smallbusinesses, they're usually
downstairs, and that is the mostexciting place.
Like I can't wait to spendtomorrow just going through or
later on today going through allof the little um businesses
because um that's where the ininnovation is.

(18:20):
Yeah, it's like you know, that'sthat's where you find the heart
and soul, I think, of the smallbusiness, the the you know, kind
of mom and pop store, the theself-starters.

SPEAKER_04 (18:31):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (18:32):
And um I it's just a great energy down there, you
know, and and people helping andand giving feedback and uh you
know it it's pretty cool.

SPEAKER_01 (18:42):
Okay, people who are here for the love of it, you
know, and it's not it's not ajust a big corporate entity
that's you know trying to makethe next buck.
Like we love what we're doing,we're we love pushing the
industry forward.
So yeah, absolutely.
Yeah, absolutely.
So fits some right uh great withWalmart and she never quit.
Yeah, it does, it doeseverything out.

SPEAKER_02 (19:00):
We yeah, we love that um you've sponsored us and
and that you're a part of ourfamily.
I feel like you know, um our weuh as a board we usually bring
on um well we bring on sponsorsthat we we use and we love.
And um we stand behind oursponsors in that because um you

(19:22):
know we don't want to just tohave a sponsor that that nobody
uses or that we can't attest to.
And um and you know, yourproducts are solid.

SPEAKER_01 (19:33):
Thank you.

SPEAKER_02 (19:34):
And uh I think it's really cool that you're always
uh looking to innovate andevolve.

SPEAKER_01 (19:40):
Absolutely.

SPEAKER_02 (19:41):
You know, and um and this just proves it.

SPEAKER_01 (19:43):
Thank you.
Yeah, obviously, you know, we'rewe're a pretty small and baby
company, but I love that we gotto a point where we could be
involved in some small way tohelp Wilma and start getting
back in the you know in theindustry and everything.
So we appreciate the opportunityfor sure.
I mean just being involved inShe Never Quit was just the
coolest experience.
And just knowing that everythingthat you guys are doing for

(20:06):
women, for veterans, um, youknow, military, that you know,
in some small way we could be apart of it.
It's pretty cool.

SPEAKER_02 (20:12):
Yeah.
It it really is.
That's um, you know, I didn'trealize that helping women or
mentoring women was was reallylike my heart, but also veterans
and and uh you know firstresponders, of course, you know,
that that's where my heart isalso.

SPEAKER_04 (20:31):
You might have a little bit of experience.

SPEAKER_02 (20:33):
I might have a little bit of experience with
that.
Um but you know, I it'simportant, you know.
Uh I think the females, they youknow, we well, I can say we, um
didn't, you know, in my career,I I didn't have a lot of
support.
Um and I think law enforcementin general don't have a lot of
support these days, um, andveterans too.

(20:56):
And so it's it's really you knowincredible to merge the two and
uh be able to go out there andhave women come to She Never
Quit.
And without sponsors like you,we wouldn't have She Never Quit.
And we wouldn't have um, youknow, we wouldn't have the
ability to give to thosecharities.
So, you know, we definitelyappreciate uh every sponsor,

(21:19):
every every dollar that we couldgive because um actually last
year I was able to hand over acheck to one of our sponsors,
and it was a great feeling, youknow, to be able to say, hey,
and they used it for counselingfemale veterans and first
responders.
So uh it was it was amazing.
Yeah.
And this year we're actuallydoing the Spike Foundation uh as

(21:42):
one of our charities, and umthat is doing uh best for
canites.
Uh so yeah, so you'll get tohear about um the Spike
Foundation when you come to shenever quit this year.

SPEAKER_01 (21:54):
Yes, that's awesome.
We have a big heart for dogs anddogs and military law
enforcement, so that's that'samazing.

SPEAKER_02 (22:01):
Well, thank you.
