Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello and welcome to the Black Girls Console 2
podcast.
I'm your host, dr AngelinaDavis, and before we start this
episode, I want you to take adeep breath with me for just one
second.
You know, I want you to knowthat this is a space that's just

(00:22):
for you, a space where you areseen, where you are heard and
you are valued.
You know, we've created thisspace together, our little
corner of the world where we getto have honest conversation
about what it really takes tothrive as a woman in consulting,
and especially if you're awoman of color.

(00:43):
You know, over recent years theworld of consulting has been
shifting under our feet.
What used to work even justfive years ago isn't enough
anymore.
Technology is changing, we havechanging client expectations
and there's a rise of thepersonal brand that has
completely reshaped thelandscape of our industry.

(01:04):
I mean, for decades theconsulting world has been
controlled by gatekeepers, largefirms that dominated the
industry and they set thestandards.
If you want to succeed, you hadto play by their rules.
That meant rigid frameworks andcorporate politics and, yes,
the old school methods like coldcalls and endless RFPs and

(01:25):
endless proposals.
The business was highlytransactional and, let's be
honest, exclusive, because oftenwe weren't factored in, it was
not designed for people like us.
But today the game is changingand technology has broken down
so many barriers and createdopportunity for what I would say

(01:46):
is a more level playing field.
Platforms like LinkedIn andYouTube are amplifying
individual voices and allowingindependent consultants to stand
really shoulder to shoulderwith major firms.
We have tools now that let usautomate repetitive tasks and
streamline our workflows.
We can literally run globalbusinesses from our laptops and

(02:10):
at the same time, clients haveshifted their expectations.
They don't want or even needcookie cutter solutions.
They have AI for that and theydefinitely don't want to feel
like a mere number on a longclient roster.
They want authenticity.
They also desire connection.
They're looking for thoughtleaders.
They want consultants who notonly bring expertise, but who

(02:36):
can also deliver tailoredsolutions that align with their
values.
And as much as these changeshave opened doors, they've also
created some new challenges forus, like how do you begin to
stand out in a saturated marketwhere everyone claims to be an
expert?
How do you adapt to these toolswithout feeling overwhelmed or

(02:57):
losing the human touch to yourwork, and how do you position
yourself as a high valueconsultant in this new era
without burning out trying to doit all.
These are questions we're goingto explore together this season
.
You may be wondering why I'vedecided to make this shift.
Well, when I first started inthe industry, I felt like I was

(03:19):
climbing uphill, uphill, with nomap and no one to help me along
.
I had the qualifications, I hadthe experience and the drive,
but it always felt like I wasbeing told I had to prove myself
and be twice as good and worktwice as hard.
And it wasn't just me.
I saw this happening to otherbrilliant and extremely capable

(03:41):
women, Women who look like me,and women whose values were
constantly questioned, eventhough they had everything they
needed to succeed.
And, honestly, what I realizedalong the way is that working
harder was not the answer.
The real enemy isn't just theexternal systems we're up

(04:02):
against.
It's the internalized systemstoo, the ones that we've been
conditioned to carry the cycleof undervaluation and
misalignment and burnout, theendless hustle that begins to
leave us exhausted and scatteredand disconnected from what
matters most.
Those things play a role too,and in this season, it's about

(04:22):
breaking that cycle.
It's about creating somethingbetter.
So I want you to just imaginefor a moment a consulting
business where your expertise isnot only valued but it's sought
after, where clients come toyou ready to invest, fully
aligned with your vision andvalues.

(04:44):
Imagine a life of financialstability, where your income is
predictable, your revenuestreams are steady and you can
plan for your future withconfidence.
This isn't about working harder, it's about working smarter and
it's about working together, building a business that allows
you to work less and to livemore.

(05:05):
A business that excites you, that challenges you and that
fills your life with joy, notone that drains you and demands
that you sacrifice things thatyou find to be so important.
Those are sacrifices that youdon't have to make any longer.
Okay, this season is abouthelping you shift the way you

(05:27):
operate.
We're going to say goodbye toold ways of working and embrace
the tools, the strategies andthe mindset shifts that help us
thrive in this new era.
We're going to tackle thingslike how to build a consulting
business that feels aligned andbalanced and joyful, how to

(05:47):
break free from the feast orfamine cycle and create
consistent, predictable revenue,to begin to develop the
confidence to take up space toarticulate our value and to
attract the highest levelaligned clients.
And then, finally, toprioritize you, to prioritize
ourselves, all of you, yourpeace, your purpose, so that

(06:09):
your business serves your lifeand not the other way around.
My focus is on boosting yourperformance, cultivating a
resilient mindset and creatingthe kind of life harmony that
lets you excel withoutsacrificing your health, your
family or your joy.
But more than that, I want tohelp you unlock your ability to

(06:35):
lead, to rise above the noiseand to cut through all of the
doubt, so you can make boldmoves that position you as a
thought leader in your industry.
My wish is that you will feelempowered every time you tune
into an episode.
I want this podcast to feel likea conversation with someone who
gets it, someone whounderstands the challenges you

(06:57):
face and the weight that youcarry, and I want you to think
of this podcast as more thanjust something to listen to.
I want it to really feel likeyour sanctuary, a place where
you can step away from all thenoise, tune into what really
matters and take away somethingvaluable for your journey.
Friend, this is your space, aspace to grow, to stretch and to

(07:23):
create a consulting businessthat works for you.
Whether you're just startingout or you're ready to scale, my
mission is to give you thetools and the confidence to
level up, not just in yourbusiness, but also in your life.
So take this as your invitationright now to take your business
to a new level.

(07:46):
podcast with someone who needsit and get ready for a season
