The CEO you should Know, broughtto you by Robie Foster Miller Eric Insurance.
This week's CEO Vicky Taylor, healthcommissioner at the Ashland County Health Department.
Today we're going to shine the spotlighton the Ashland County Health Department and
their health commissioner. Vicky Taylor isjoining us. Vicky, good morning,

(00:24):
Thank you so much for joining us. How are you today? Good morning?
Thank you. I am wonderful. It's glad to be here with you.
Yes, glad to hear your voice. And let's begin at the top.
How long have you been the healthcommissioner in Ashland County? Yeah,
I know it's somewhat recently named, but how long have you been in the
role? So in twenty twenty oneJune I became the health commissioner, but

(00:49):
I had been here a year beforethat as the accreditation coordinator. All right,
so you've been there for a littlewhile now, Vicky. Could we
kind of start at the beginning,And I know the Health Department and does
a lot, but could you kindof share do an overview of all the
services and everything you guys provide.Sure, I think a lot of people
are surprised when they find out howmuch Health Department actually does. But we

(01:14):
have three divisions, our Nursing Division, our Environmental Health Division, and Operations.
So our Nursing Division focuses on communicabledisease investigations, vaccines, general health
screening, health education, and leadmitigation. They also have CPR training and
Narken distribution. Our Environmental Health Divisionis probably one more people are familiar with

(01:38):
because they do all the restaurant andfood inspections within the county. They do
sewage inspections and help people determine whereto put their sewage systems in when they
build. They check water samples acrossthe county, helping food borne illness investigations,
and inspect pools, campgrounds, tattooand body our parlors. So they're

(02:00):
a pretty busy division. And thenwe have the Operations Division, which handles
all the day to day operations likefinance and group management. But they also
house public communications, our Emergency Preparednessdivision, our accreditation, and then we
do reporting to state and local officialsand our community health improvement and assessment plans.

(02:24):
We also have the Vital Records Division, which handles the birth and death
certificates and also does annual fatality reviews. So you can see that we have
a lot going on in public health. Yeah, I think a lot of
people you hear health department and youdon't realize until you have a good conversation
about all the services that are provided. The voice you hear today it's Vicky

(02:46):
Taylor. She is the Ashland CountyHealth Commissioner. Now, I don't know
if we have an exact day,you know, when we talk about how
long the health Department's been around outI'm sure it's been a long long time,
right, Oh, I'm sure atleast decades, maybe fifty years or
more. So it's a vital servicein any community to help look over the

(03:07):
health of the general public. Asopposed to lak medical facilities. We really
look at population health and try tofigure out what we can do as an
organization to help the overall population beas healthy as possible. Well, as
you mentioned the overall population, amI right? You have a new recent

(03:28):
mobile health clinic that you can taketwo different spots across the community. Correct,
that is true. It is gainingin popularity. We have taken the
mobile clinic all over the county andit's being very well received. So I'm
glad that people are starting to noticethe big white van as it goes around
towns. All right, terrific tohear about that now, Vicky, in

(03:52):
terms of people that are employed atthe Ashland County Health Department, and you
mentioned several divisions, do you havea ball figure roughly how many employees do
you guys have? Yeah, weusually have around twenty employees that work pretty
consistently for full time for us.We occasionally will have some part time student
interns working with us, but wereally feel like we have a good solid

(04:15):
employee base here at the Health Department. And Vicky, if I could ask,
and I believe I'm correct, you'rein a new building right we are.
We are in Ashland City. Weare at one two one one Claremont
Avenue. It's a big kind ofwhite building in front of Armstrong Cable and

(04:35):
we are just happy as can beto be in this new facility. We've
seen an uptick and foot traffic comingin here, so that makes us very
happy. All right. We areglad to learn this morning all about the
Ashland County Health Department and the Healthcommissioner there, that is Vicky Taylor.
This week's CEO. You should knowshe's going to spend a few more minutes

(04:57):
with us. But let's find outa little bit more about Vicky Taylor.
Let's step back to the beginning,if we could, VICKI, tell us
where was Vicky Taylor born? Well, I was born in Hastings, Michigan,
but I never really lived there. So I was the daughter of an
Air Force man who traveled all overthe world and took his family with him.

(05:19):
So this is the first time I'velived in one place for a very
long time. So I can certainlycall Ashland County my home. All right,
Well, you mentioned born in Michigan. Where did you go to high
school? Well, as a militarybrat, that's what we call ourselves,
I had a different high school everyyear of high school, but I graduated
in Columbus, Ohio at Hamilton TownshipHigh School. All right, now,

(05:44):
could you tell us after high schoolanything about college? VICKI? So,
I was an adult student and wentto college later on in life. So
I have an undergraduate degree in criminaljustice, and I have a degree from
this Ashland Theological Seminary and a Masterof Arts and Corporate Strategic Communication from Ashland

(06:04):
University. All right now, thequestion everybody may have you mentioned about your
family and traveling around. Born inMichigan, in high school, graduation in
Columbus. How did you make itto Ashland and living here? Now?
Could you give us the story afterthat? Sure? Well, my husband
was an Air Force man, buthe was from Holmes County, and in

(06:26):
nineteen ninety eight we decided to movefrom Arizona back to this area so we
could be closer to his family, and I came back to attend graduate school
here. So we've made Ashland ourhome for the last twenty three years.
All right, Do you want totell us a little bit more about the
family. Sure, yes, I'mmarried. My husband is retired from a

(06:47):
couple of jobs, but he stillworks at Ashland University part time. We
have a son, and he ismarried and has children of his own,
and they live in Ashland County aswell. All right now, the other
question is what is Vicky Taylor liketo do when she is not working?
Do you have any hobbies? Whatdo you do in your spare time?
Well, I don't have a wholelot of spare time because I also teach

(07:11):
at Ashland University, but I dolike to be out on our boat on
Charles Mill Lake, and I alsolike to paint when I have time.
