E61 What are your targets?

Hi Friends,

In this episode I talk about:

Targets for the new year. If we don't make intentional plans to work towards our goals then they will not get done. Making plans for the year can help us achieve what we want to.

(00:00):
Hi and welcome to Classic Advice.
My name is Scarlett Classic, your host.
Welcome everybody. To those of you that are new on
this show, I share stories from my life to draw lessons from
them to encourage self improvement for a happier and
more fulfilling life for the both of us.

(00:21):
If you're shooting arrows but don't have a target, what's the
point? One of my hobbies is archery.
I really don't do it very often, not as often as I would like.
I I don't compete. I don't, I have a Longbow and my
husband has a compound bow and the kids, we also have a little

(00:46):
Longbow for Riley and another compound bow for the kids that
they share. And we have these targets, these
little square boxes, cubes basically that will set out from
us and we'll aim and shoot at them.
And when I was thinking about, Iwas taking some time and I was

(01:06):
reflecting about 2025 and I was thinking about 2026.
I was thinking about everything that I did and accomplished and
thinking about things that I hadwanted to accomplish in 2025,
but for whatever reason, they didn't happen.
And when I was thinking about 2026, I was making some very

(01:30):
clear and distinct goals for myself.
And that got me thinking about you and how if we don't set
clear goals for for ourselves, then it's like archery and
shooting, but just shooting at whatever.

(01:54):
And if you do that, your arrows are going to be all over the
place and they're going to be hard to find and some are
probably going to get lost. And it's like, what the point
you don't even know if you're good at what you're doing
because you not aiming at a target, you can't see how far

(02:16):
off the bulls that you are. Does that make sense?
Like, so for example, if I I didn't really make a distinct
goal for myself last year when it came to my podcast, I didn't
really make a distinctive goal for myself when it came to
writing my book. Those are two things that are
hobbies of mine that I'm doing on the side.

(02:36):
And last year, I missed releasing quite a bit on my show
on here, not because I wanted to, but I guess I really, I
wasn't really making it a top, top priority.

(02:56):
And for 2026, I want that to change.
For 2026, I want to never miss releasing an episode on here.
I want to be more proactive in Iguess, making this podcast work
and showing up here. I started doing social media

(03:20):
post online in December and I released those daily and
they're, I was terrified to do it at first.
Let's just say that, you know, the fear of being judged, the
fear of starting something new, I guess was just kind of getting
to me. And I knew I should be doing it
because it's like I can do the podcast, but if people don't

(03:43):
know the podcast exists, then you know, So that's just one way
that I'm sharing what I'm doing and getting word out there
without quote UN quote advertising it because I don't
want to advertise my podcast. It's just not something that I
want to do. I like listening to podcasts.
I don't have ads in them. So that's just kind of my way of

(04:07):
getting word out there. Anyways, side tangent, but
having set goals for things thatwe want to achieve is really,
really, really, really, really going to help us achieve those
goals. And when the year is done, we

(04:27):
can look back or even month by month, week by week, we can look
back and say, hey, I hit the nail on the head every single
time. I swung the hammer.
Perfect. Great.
Are you going to hit the nail onthe head every single time?
Maybe not, you know, and that's life.

(04:48):
We're going to fail sometimes. But at least when we look back
in 2027 to 2026, we can see how close we were to the bullseye.
How many times we missed what what was it that caused us to
miss so that we can fix it and do better the next year, This

(05:11):
year it well, I guess last year in 2025, I moved and I missed
releasing on here because we were moving and we were getting
up at the Crocodon, working all day and going to bed exhausted
and doing that for like a few weeks in a row.
Had I batch recorded? Had I planned in advance on how

(05:38):
I was going to navigate that so that I didn't miss on my show, I
could have managed it a lot better.
I could have not missed on here.Had I planned in advance and
been ahead of myself, you know what I mean?
So sometimes when we look back, we can say, oh, I could have

(05:58):
managed that better. Hindsight's 2020, I could have
managed that better. When that happens again next, I
mean, I'm not moving, but when life gets busy again, how can I
manage handling my show so that I cannot miss an episode on
here? The other thing that happens is

(06:23):
getting sick and losing your voice.
What's going to happen when I lose my voice because I get
sick? Because that's just life.
If I'm ahead of myself a little bit on the show, if I have a few
videos already pre recorded for my social media posts, then I
don't need to worry about getting sick because I have some

(06:47):
in storage that I can grab and take out and use.
If for whatever reason I get a cold and I get sick and I can't
record, or life just gets reallycrazy busy and I don't have the
time, what is it for you? What are your goals in 2026 that

(07:12):
you want to achieve? What are you aiming for this
year and do you have a target that you'd like to reach?
For me, I already shared about the show.
I also want to write in my book.I'm also trying to be very

(07:32):
realistic with that specific oneis kind of on the bottom of the
priority list. So I have my certain goals and
then what are the priorities? Where do they all sit in my life
and my priorities, right? Like if you have 20 things to

(07:53):
do, what are the top five? What are that?
Well, the writing in my novel iskind of the bottom one because I
do have a very busy lifestyle. I have a job that I work really
long hours on. So to say I'm going to sit and
write in my book for 30 minutes every day just isn't practical
when I work a 14, a 14 hour dateand I'm gone, right?

(08:17):
And sleep is something that is on a higher priority on the
ladder of priorities, right? But I can say, well, every
weekend that I have off, I want to dedicate 30 minutes that
that's a more sustainable goal. And sustainability, I can't
preach that enough. I'll try not to preach.
I can't talk about sustainability enough because

(08:40):
I'm the kind of person where I to kind of have these manic and
not I don't not I don't get depressed, but I have these
depressive states where I'll go really, really hard for a while
and then I'll get tired and exhausted and wear myself out
and then I'll take a break. But then the brakes is really,
really long. The lesson that I'd like us to

(09:01):
take is intentionally carving out time in our calendars so
that we can shoot our arrows at the target.
And that is the challenge as well.
I really like writing things down, so I am going to challenge
you to do the same thing and maybe you can think of another

(09:21):
way that works better for you. But write down your goals and
what you want to achieve in 2026and put it somewhere where
you're going to see it every dayto remind you, hey, this is the
goal for 2026. I'm going to do the same thing.
I'm going to write it down and I'm going to put it right by my

(09:42):
bed where I keep all my like my bedside table or whatever.
So that every time I go to bed, when I wake up, I'm going to
see, hey, this is the goal that you had for 2026.
This is important for you to shoot arrows at this target this
year. I think that seeing it every day

(10:03):
and and having it written down as a visual reminder every day
is really going to help me to carve out that time and shoot
arrows at the target. The other thing that I use
religiously is the calendar in my phone.
I put everything in there. I put in there my bills that are

(10:24):
coming out. I, I put in there when I'm
getting paid. I put in there my meetings, I
put in there my appointments. I put everything in my calendar
on my phone. I have put in my calendar for
2026 my times where I'm going toshoot my arrows at my targets

(10:47):
every second weekend that I haveoff.
I put in my calendar right in mynovel and I put in like a a 30
minute time slot and I've put a reminder on there for 10 minutes
before to go do that. And it's so every second weekend

(11:08):
I'm going to get a notification on my phone telling me to pick
up my bow and arrow and shoot atmy target, an actual Bing on my
phone to say, hey, if you don't do this, if you don't pick up
your bow and arrow right now, you're not going to have time

(11:30):
later. Because today's the day when you
have time, you've dedicated timefor this until it becomes a
habit. Once you create a habit and it's
just what you do, you might not need this reminder anymore.
But for me, where I'm at right now, I need this reminder to

(11:51):
say, hey, pick up your bow, pickup your arrow and go shoot those
arrows at your target. And hopefully when we come into
2027, I can come on here and tell you guys, hey, I have X
number of chapters done in my book.
Woo Hoo. Hey guys, I actually never

(12:12):
missed an episode on my show. Let's do that again next year.
That's a route for this episode. Please keep in mind JJ saying,
which is please pause, take sometime and think about what
targets you want to have for 2026 and love yourself enough to

(12:37):
carve out some time in your calendar to shoot some arrows at
your target and be aware of yourripple because we all have a
ripple in life. And let's make that a +1.
Stay classically you. You guys stay uniquely you.

(12:58):
I would love to hear from you. I know I say that all the time,
but I'm telling you again, I want to hear from you and it's
all in the show notes, but my website isclassicchronicles.ca
and we will chat again soon. Take care of you guys.
Love you. Bye.
