During the discussion we reflected on Mina’s impressive and tireless promotion of Yugoslav and Serbian cinematography, including the recent retrospective of 1960s black wave movies he put together and curated at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
We spoke about the legacy and influence of Živojin Žika Pavlović, Dušan Makavejev, Bahrudin Bato Čengić and Aleksandar Petrović movies, discussed who left their mark on Hollywood, and what was the wider significance of film noir movement.
We further discussed silent Yugoslav cinema of the early 20th century, how we perceive history through film and perceptions of womanhood in the cultural arena. We also spoke about the significance of restoration and preserving movies which are of cultural importance for world heritage, and explored why movies are so important.
