Steve Marvell (00:01):
Hi, this is Steve Marvell and this is the crucial
survival podcast. I am in thebathroom because by all
accounts, that is where the bestacoustics are. So do feel free
to leave in the comments whetheror not these are in fact, the

(00:24):
best acoustics. I have no idea.
It sounds a bit echoey to me anyway. I'd like to talk about wild
foods today. This weekend, Iwent for a walk with Maxine, my
beautiful partner who will belistening. And we took the dog

(00:46):
for a walk in the woods. And Inoticed in mid Devon in the UK,
there was a great deal of plansalready going to seed. That's,
that's a see quite early for forfor a few things. However, I

(01:10):
didn't notice that such asdandelions actually out yet. And
that sort of reminds me of theprogression of wild through food
throughout the year and theimportance of learning those
wild foods that cover the year.

(01:36):
And so the bulk plants like wildcard, garlic are quite early in
the season. But obviously, fruits and nuts in find our
trees come autumn time. Believeit or not, there aren't good

(02:01):
pickings in summer. Summer, isthat midway between plan being
like, Hey, I'm gonna grow andI'm gonna really fall about
flowers. And now it turns fromall my nutrition is now going

(02:23):
this way, it's now going to gointo my fruit or whatever it
might be. And there's there's nofruit, but there's no goodness
and in the plan bits itself andis saying, okay, so why do we
do? So? In summer? What are theplans? stick something in the

(02:45):
comments. I'll talk about that.
In future episodes about wildfood of witches, there will be
many. So if you've notsubscribed, and many of you have
not, you should be liking theFacebook page. And if this is on

(03:09):
YouTube, it's probably not I'mjust going pure podcast at the
moment. Yeah, that's that seewhat's going on there in summer,
equally wind winter bit of abastard in terms of food,

(03:33):
obviously, into sort of season.
If you have a survivalsituation, in some ride are
saved because of thetemperature. If we think about
the priorities the temperatureis horrific. rescues difficult.

(04:01):
All all of those things arereally working against you.
Probably be able to find somewater much like you would in any
other part of the air. And ifit's snowing, happy days, we
still gotta get nice dry wood.
It's it's just difficult ifyou've ever done one of my

(04:22):
courses, which hopefully, all ofthe people who've been my
courses are now listening. Ifyou've done one of my courses,
you will know that winter, especially when we do courses at
like minus 10 It's It's It'sspecial. I really just saw the

(04:45):
world while you would say Iwould have said men from the
boys but we don't say thatanymore. Obviously. It's from
the people who really wantedfrom the people who were by Got
it.
And so, yeah, this is why we do.
I'm not trying to advertisemyself right now. I'll do that

(05:05):
another day. But yeah, this iswhy I've advised it do more than
one course in the air. Youexperienced the wild food, you
experienced the conditions, thelaw, all sorts. Nobody needs to
live fire overnight in thesummer. But you know why? Minus
10 You, you need a fire and youneed it all the way through the

(05:31):
nine. If you can't have a firethat goes through the night,
then do you're gonna have towait 10 days? Or if you've got a
group, pardon me? If you've gota group, then Holy Moses, you
better be up in shifts. If it'sthat cold, really. Because like

(05:55):
three o'clock in the morning iswhere it's coldest. You really
will have to stay up with afire. Quite honestly. And and
sleeve. That sort of dusk and Iin the afternoon. You'll find

(06:16):
rescue doesn't operate.
Certainly after the firstchapter so much at night until
until you about a search andrescue I did for a friend of
mine another day. But yeah, wedon't really search that nights

(06:43):
image, bird. First, first thingin the morning. That's when it
all kicks off. That's where youneed to be prepared. So if
you're going to who's going tostay up? Stay up in the night
and keep yourself warm sleep onthe afternoon? Um, yeah, that's,

(07:11):
that's my waffle ins for the dayin my excellent acoustics
bathroom. Yeah. So what do youwant to hear about? What do you
want to talk about? Let me know.
Facebook group, crucial slidepack the whole training. Send me
a message Steve Marvell two L'syou'll find that on Facebook on

(07:36):
the on the page to send patemessage that find it. Tell me
what you want to know about. AsI've said when we start doing
these 10 minutes, and it will beconcentrated be like 10 minutes
on something specific. Bit ofamusing one today. And quite

(07:59):
honestly, I'm actually sneakilytrying to find good acoustics
whilst simultaneously trying outa new piece of software, which
does some editing on my phone.

(08:19):
So I shall bid you farewell,King surviving and I will speak
to you soon
