Chapter 65 Summary

Bravo continues his preparations inside the warehouse, racing against time as he fills steel drums with water and plans the electrical setup he envisioned earlier. He knows his window of opportunity is narrowing, especially with the property up for lease and the risk of unexpected visitors increasing. Although capable of violence, Bravo reflects that he has always viewed it as a last resort, rationalizing his past actions, particularly the assault on Steven Schroeder, as contractual obligations rather than personal vendettas. Still, the weight of those choices lingers as he considers Remington’s efforts to track him down.

As Bravo waits, his thoughts drift backward through the path that led him here. He recalls a violent youth, his transformation through military service, and his eventual induction into the elite ranks of the Green Berets. Years of exposure to brutality hardened him, leaving him detached and emotionally numb. After leaving the military, he spiraled into homelessness before being drawn into the world of debt collection, a line of work that gradually shifted from intimidation to outright violence. Now having accumulated substantial monetary gains but exhausted by the life he’s chosen, Bravo longs for escape and dreams of disappearing to a peaceful place once he has eliminated Remington and Hernandez, ensuring no loose ends remain.

Meanwhile, Javon Morris continues his investigation by interrogating Daniel Bruner and Sandra Brown. Bruner appears completely uninvolved, offering no indication of knowledge about the mysterious envelope left at the FBI office. Sandra’s interview begins tensely, escalating when she believes she’s being accused of delivering a threatening message. Though visibly angry, she cooperates, and Javon finds no immediate signs of deception. Frustration mounts as Sandra criticizes the investigation’s lack of progress, striking a nerve with Javon, who knows the envelope remains his only real lead.

The interview takes a dramatic turn when two manila envelopes fall from Sandra’s portfolio as she prepares to leave. Shocked, she explains she had found three envelopes outside her office days earlier and forgotten about them entirely. Javon immediately recognizes their similarity to the envelope left at the bureau and halts her from touching them, ordering an urgent forensic analysis. As Sandra breaks down, insisting on her innocence, Javon is left uncertain whether she is a victim of circumstance or a skilled deceiver, hoping the lab results will finally bring clarity to a case filled with unanswered questions.
