In this Lunar New Year episode airing January 16, Kelly Jackson challenges listeners to ask a simple, confronting question: what are you really waiting for before you fully step into your life—time, or permission? She unpacks “auditioning” as the exhausting habit of trying to qualify for your own life, then names what it looks like in real time: overexplaining to avoid being questioned, cushioning your dreams so you won’t look like you care, waiting to feel ready, shrinking your truth to fit others’ comfort, performing humility, getting stuck in “prep mode,” needing proof before you move, and staying overly available to earn belonging. Kelly explains why this pattern makes sense as a nervous system strategy rooted in past conditioning, and uses Lunar New Year as a cycle shift—“new year, new standard”—to end the constant negotiation of worth. She invites listeners to choose one non-negotiable standard to live for 30 days and take one bold action this week—post the draft, send the email, launch imperfectly, set a boundary without a long explanation, ask directly, submit your work, or say no—to prove the audition is over. The goal isn’t to become louder or fearless, but to make one clean decision, stay with the discomfort of growth, and practice visibility until your body learns it’s safe to live as you.

From the Episode:

  • "  Auditioning is living like you are trying to qualify for your own life."
  • " ...you never feel fully safe when you are waiting for safety to be handed to you."
  • "   Overexplaining is a form of bracing and you're trying to build this wall of logic so nobody can hurt you with their opinion."
  • "  ...there is a difference between preparation and hiding; preparation moves you forward and hiding keeps you in the same place with like better notes."
