Speaker 3 (06:27):
We use it a lot over there on revolver and, uh, yeah,
I've carried it kind of carried it over here as
well to eternal affairs. Um, So Steve, let's jump right
into it, shall we? Sure. First question I have for you,
because we're talking about your book, Be Wise With Your
Money In These End Times. And I was wondering, what
(06:50):
was the inspiration for you writing this book?
Speaker 8 (06:55):
Yeah, great question. I've got a copy of it right here.
If people want to see what it looks like, Be
Wise With Your Money In These End Times. So the inspiration,
the background is, is that my family used to live
in Idaho. We recently moved to Tennessee. We had a
beautiful property. And when I was about 60 years old,
(07:16):
I think, that was quite a few years ago. I'm
a little bit older than that now. One day, there
was just a revelation that hit me. And the inspiration
was this, that I'm not getting any younger. And I
work for White Horse Media, which is a wonderful Christian ministry.
I've been with them for about 20 years. But at
(07:37):
the time, we did not have a retirement account for
our employees. And my wife and I, Kristen, we have
two children, Seth and Abby. And at that time, my
kids were both looking forward to going to college. And
of course, that's not cheap. They really wanted to do that.
(07:58):
They wanted to spread their wings and get the best education.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
They could get.
Speaker 8 (08:03):
I'm not saying that you can't get a good education
if you don't go to college.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
I think you can. There's other options.
Speaker 8 (08:09):
But anyway, I was looking at my future with the
children and the expense that would be involved in that
and the fact that I didn't have a retirement account.
And on top of that, we had a beautiful piece
of property, five acres up in the mountains, surrounded by
pine trees. And that property was just about paid off.
(08:31):
We purchased it in 2009. So it was many years
ago and it had appreciated dramatically in North Idaho. And
the property was one of my goals was to pay
it off. And so I knew that once that happened,
which was not going to be too long from that
moment of the inspiration. So I'd have a property paid off.
I'd have some extra cash. I have kids that are
(08:54):
wanting to go to college, didn't have a retirement account.
And prior to that, and it's still true today, that
the majority of my life's focus is Jesus, my relationship
with God, the Bible. And White Horse Media is all
about sharing the Lord's word and helping people to get
ready for his return. And we picked the name White
(09:16):
Horse Media because in Revelation 19, verse 10, or verse 11,
Jesus is described as coming to earth on a white horse.
So my whole focus of my life, apart from my
wife and my kids and trying to stay healthy, has
been spreading the word of God and helping people to
know Jesus and to get ready for his return. And
(09:39):
I hadn't really done a lot of study on the
apparently mundane topic of money. You know, I just gave
my life to God and trusted him and I paid
my bills, but I didn't really make that topic a
focus of my life. But when I realized, you know,
one day it just kind of hit me. hey, Steve,
(10:01):
you're getting older. You don't have a retirement account. You've
got your family you need to take care of, provide
for your children as much as you can, and your
house is going to be paid off and you're going
to have some extra cash. You know, I just realized,
just like God told Hezekiah years ago, when he was
about to die, God said to him, put your house
(10:21):
in order. And I realized I need to get my
financial house in order because I don't want to get
stuck or caught in the future with empty pockets in
the midst of financial needs. And so I just decided
I'm going to not just study revelation and the Bible
(10:43):
and prophecy. I'm also going to start studying what the
Bible says about financial principles, about money. I'm going to
start looking for the best financial educators that I can find.
There's a proverb that has really been a real guiding
light to me. Proverbs chapter 13, verse 20, which says,
(11:04):
he who walks with the wise grows wise. And I
think that applies to many different areas, including money. So
I decided that based on that scripture, I was going
to seek out and find people the people that were
the best in dealing with money and finances and investing
and things like this. And so I can learn not
(11:26):
just from some fly-by-night YouTube channel that says, hey, buy
this stock or buy this stock or whatever, but I
want to learn from people that really know what they're
doing and have a track record and are very reputable.
And so I prayed a lot and I said, Lord,
guide me and help me to understand the principles of
(11:47):
money management and how to grow my money. As there's
a famous saying, we work for money. You mentioned you
have bills to pay.
Speaker 5 (11:54):
I do too.
Speaker 8 (11:56):
And so there's a famous saying that we need to
learn how to work for money. And then as time
goes on, we need to learn how to make our
money work for us so that we're actually generating income
from the money that we use in a wise way.
And so anyway, that's kind of not too short of
(12:17):
an answer to that's the background of the book. And
the more I began to study this topic from my
Bible and from some of the world's most respected financial
thinkers and experts, then I just, you know, another revelation
hit me. And it was, I wish I had known
about these principles 50 years ago. I wish I had
(12:39):
been practicing these things for a long time. And if
I would have done that 50 years ago and started,
you know, they say there's another principle. They say, think
big and start small. If I would have started small
with a big goal a long time ago, and if
I would have been using my money in a wise way,
my financial world would be a lot different. And so
(13:01):
I thought, you know, I need to teach this to
other people. And so that's why I wrote the book.
was so I could help people who are younger than me,
who are not just retirees, but young people, teenagers, those
in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, that realized that finances
is part of life. Money is part of life. We
(13:23):
all have bills to pay. And I also realized, and
this is very important, that money is not something separate
to my relationship with Jesus. When you look at Matthew, Mark, Luke,
and John, A lot of Jesus parables deal with money, surprisingly,
dealing with principles of finances and stewardship and using your talents.
(13:44):
And so I realized that it's not like, you know,
I pray over here and I have a relationship with
God over here and money is not part of that.
But I realized that growing my money, being economical, being
responsible with my money, earning money. and then using it
wisely to help my family and ultimately also to help
other people. Because I like to give to God's work.
(14:04):
I like to help, you know, ministries that need help.
I just was looking at my money situation today. I
do this every couple of weeks and go through my finances.
And I have certain ministries that I give to, like
United Prison Ministry, which is a prison ministry that brings
Bibles and Bible studies to prisoners. And on their website,
it says, the answer to crime is Christ. And so
(14:26):
I support that ministry and I support Child Impact, which
is helping rescue girls, especially who have been sucked into
child trafficking. I support that ministry. And there's another ministry
called People of Peru Project, where they work with orphans
in Peru and they take them in, they get them
an education, they get them on their feet, they help
(14:48):
them to find families. And I support that ministry. And
I love doing this. I don't make a huge amount
of money, but when I can give my offerings to
these ministries, it makes me feel really good. And so
all of these principles, I thought, need to be shared.
So that's why I wrote the book.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Yeah. And for Christians today, certainly I heard some good points.
Why do you believe that Christians need to be talking
more about money today?
Speaker 8 (15:21):
Well, I think one reason is a lot of Christians believe,
like many do in my church, the church I go
to is, well, they probably believe different things. But in
my church, you know, we really do focus on the
Lord's coming and on getting ready for his return. But
I think, you know, a lot of, there's a saying
that I heard from one of my seminary professors years ago,
(15:43):
and he said, some Christians are so heavenly minded that
there's no earthly, there are no earthly good Christians. And
I think one reason why some Christians, conservative Christians, Bible-believing
Christians don't think about money and don't focus on that
is because they don't, they just, you know, they feel well,
we'll just trust the Lord and we're in the end
times and Jesus is getting ready to come. And it's
(16:04):
not something that we need to think about. So I
think that's one reason. Another reason is I think people just,
you know, they've never been educated in the importance of
being a good steward of your financial resources. So I
think there's different reasons, but there's not a lot of, well,
(16:24):
it's hard to say really the percentages, but many Christians
are waking up to the fact that money is part
of their relationship with Jesus and being a good steward
of God's resources and using those resources wisely to help
others is important. There are many Christians that do realize that,
but there are a lot of others that don't and
they need to be educated.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Yeah, it's interesting. For some, I know it's tough to
even get finances, income right now. I know that's a
fight for a lot of people right now. What would
you suggest to someone who's struggling with creating income for
(17:11):
the storehouse, so to speak?
Speaker 5 (17:13):
Yeah, great question. I have a chapter in my book called....
Speaker 8 (17:17):
It's about financial principles, healthy financial principles. So the first
thing we need to do is make sure that our
relationship with.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
Jesus is number one.
Speaker 8 (17:31):
Because Jesus said in Matthew 6.33, he said, if you
seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, all
these things will be given to you. So number one
is surrender your life to Christ. and let him be
your guide in everything that you do. Now, another principle
(17:51):
is to realize in Luke 19, verse 13, Jesus said,
he told a parable about a noble man who was
going off into a far country to receive a kingdom.
And he called his servants and he gave them some money.
And then he said, you know, use this money while
I'm gone. And he said the exact words he used
(18:14):
was occupy until I come Luke 19 verse 13. And
the word occupy means do business. And so then he
went away and then he came back finally after a
long time and he, and he brought his, the first
servant to him and he, you know, he gave him
so much money and this man, let's say he had one,
a Roman amount of money. And then he, he, uh,
(18:36):
developed it into 10. And then the nobleman said, well done,
good and faithful servant. And so then the next person
came up and he had one talent or one amount
of money and he turned it into five. So the
first one was a thousand percent increase. The second one
was 500% increase. And then the third one took his
(18:58):
Lord's money and he just buried it. He did nothing
with it and it didn't go well with that man.
And so there's a lot of principles in that parable,
but so what If we give our lives to Jesus,
number one, and the second thing, when we read his word,
we realize that he wants us to occupy, do business.
He wants us to, you know, live in a practical
(19:19):
way down here and develop what we have for the
benefit of God's work and our families and our own needs.
So once a person gets that in their mind, you know,
I need to give my life to Jesus. And then
number two, I need to use my talents while I'm here,
occupy while I come.
Speaker 5 (19:38):
And so then.
Speaker 8 (19:38):
Another principle is you start small. Like I mentioned, think big,
start small. We need to have a vision of what
God can do for us, even though we only have,
you know, God said to Moses, what's it? Moses said,
I can't go to Egypt. I can't even hardly talk.
And God said, well, what is in your hand? And
he said, well, I've got my staff. So God used
(20:01):
Moses and he used what he had to start with,
which was his staff. And he used that man and
that staff. to bring 2 million people out of Egypt
and to give birth to the whole Israelite nation. And
so we need to think big that God can do
big things with us, but we've got to start with
what we've got. So there's many principles. Another principle is
(20:24):
we need to do what we can to get a job.
I've got a Bible verse right here in 2 Thessalonians 3,
verse 10, where Paul says, if anyone does not work
or will not work, neither should he eat. So this
is a basic principle that we need to not be lazy.
(20:45):
We need to be willing to get off our bottoms.
We're not here to be couch potatoes. God didn't make
us in his image to be couch potatoes. He made
the world. He worked during six days. He rested on
the seventh. He made us in his image. And he
created us to be productive, to do things. Not every day,
six days during the week, but he made us to
(21:07):
be productive. So people first have to be educated in
their heads what are the biblical principles of developing our talents,
starting where we're at, starting small, having a vision that
God can help me, he can do something for me.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
So then we need to get some.
Speaker 8 (21:27):
Education or some training. We need to decide with the
Holy Spirit's help and with prayer, what am I good at?
What are my talents? What are my abilities? Some people
have different gifts. Some people have other gifts. And so
we want to try to find what our talents are,
how we can develop them, how we can educate ourselves
(21:48):
so that we can get a good job. And if
you start out with a little job, you know, then
you can maybe advance to a better job. So it's just,
you know, there's principles where you just, you work your
way up. And then another principle is we need to
learn to live within our means. So if we're very
tight on our budget right now, we don't want to
(22:09):
take our credit card and start going to the mall
and buying things that we, when we get the bill
at the end of the month or the next month
that we can't pay that bill. And so many people, unfortunately,
even many Christians, you know, the temptation to use that card,
you know, to buy some furniture or buy this or that.
(22:29):
And the ad says, there's no interest.
Speaker 5 (22:32):
For a year.
Speaker 8 (22:33):
So you can just make the minimum payment and everything
will be fine. And people just keep putting off making that,
paying that off. And so their debt can increase dramatically.
And before you know it, you know, the average American
credit card debt is somewhere around.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
$ 10, 000.
Speaker 8 (22:52):
And the credit card companies charge you, you know, 24, 25, 26, 28, 29,
30% interest on your unpaid balance. So if we have
a credit card debt, we need to make like Daniel
in Daniel chapter one, when he was offered food, he
shouldn't eat that was offered to idols and it wasn't
(23:13):
good for him. Daniel chapter one, I think it's verse eight,
says Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not
defile himself with the king's meat, the king's food. And
so if you have a big credit card debt, you
need to purpose in your heart that you're going to
pay this off. So you need to live within your means,
get out of that big debt, and then start going
(23:35):
step by step of being able to pay your bills,
building up good credit, and then developing an emergency fund
where you've got something on the side in case you
have an unexpected expense. Dave Ramsey is an expert on
these principles. I talk quite a bit about him in
my book and other people. So, you know, you just
(23:55):
go step by step. And what my book does is
it walks you through these steps, putting God first, realizing
you're a good steward, developing your talents, educating yourself so
you can improve your ability so you can then get
a better job. And then you don't spend all your
money that you get from your paycheck or whatever way
(24:18):
of income you get. And then you start putting something
aside for an emergency fund. And once you're out of
bad debt and you've got an emergency fund and you're
building your income, then you need to start thinking about
what am I going to do with the extra money
So I can make that money work for me so
(24:40):
I can grow my money in the future. And it's a,
it's a, it's a, as they say, you know, wise
investing is a long game. You're not trying to get
rich quick. You realize that, uh, get rich quick. It's
not the way to go. You don't, if you're struggling
with your money, don't, don't spend it on the lottery,
you know, try, or don't go to the casinos because
(25:01):
you're going.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
To end up losing.
Speaker 8 (25:03):
What?
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Easy come, easy go, right?
Speaker 5 (25:05):
Yeah, easy come, easy go.
Speaker 8 (25:07):
So God wants us to build our money and our
lives in a wise way. And there's a phrase in
my book that I quote. I got it from somebody else.
And it said, gaining wealth is not an elevator. There's
no elevator. Like you just get in, push the button,
you're going to get there. But you have to take
the stairs. You got to go step by step, point
(25:30):
by point. It's like the old saying, the journey of
a thousand miles starts with the first step. So you
learn the principles. And this is what my book does
is it teaches principles and those principles are rooted in scripture.
So I think one of the differences between my book
and a lot of other finance books is that many
of the finance books they did, they leave God out
(25:50):
of the picture. And I want to look at my
my life and my finances, my money, my future, my giving,
my receiving, my working, everything under the umbrella of the
Lord and his word. And so my book is based
on scripture, but it also combines with financial information from
(26:11):
people that have been very successful in the use of
their money, like Dave Ramsey and Warren Buffett and Jack Bogle.
And there's quite a few others that are very, very smart.
And they may not all be Christians, but we can
still learn from people that have made a success out
of their lives in a certain way. Just like if
(26:36):
my car is having problems, it would be great if
my master mechanic, someone that I go to, is a Christian,
because it'll help them to be more honest. But there
are other honest mechanics that are not Christians. So The
issue with me when I'm looking to gain knowledge in
a certain field, if it's mechanics or if it's health
(26:59):
or whatever it is, or if it's finances, all of
my mentors or, you know, my mechanic or whoever may
not be a Bible-believing Christian, but if they've proven themselves
with practical knowledge, we can still learn from them. And
so— I guess this is kind of a long answer
to your question, but people are struggling with finances. They're
(27:22):
struggling with the inflation. They're struggling with trying to find
a job. But if you're diligent, and the book of
Proverbs is full of information about don't be lazy, be diligent,
hard work will pay off.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
Hard work pays off. Diligence pays off. Honesty pays off.
Speaker 8 (27:41):
Being an economist, and Jesus was an economist. When he
fed the 5,000 with all this, he took five loaves
and two fish and prayed over this food and multiplied
it and fed a whole crowd. And so, but then
he said at the end, he said, gather the fragments
that remain that nothing be lost. Let's not waste this food,
(28:03):
even though I can, you know, take five more fish
and two more loaves of bread and I can make
a whole lot more, you know, don't, don't rely on
the miracle only, but be frugal, be economical, right? You know,
save the crumbs and don't let them be lost either.
So these are principles that we need to learn. They're
(28:24):
in the Bible. They're taught by Jesus. They're throughout the scriptures.
They're in the Ten Commandments. And we need to learn
these principles. So we need to educate ourselves. I guess
that's kind of the short answer to your question.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
What do you do?
Speaker 8 (28:38):
Educate yourself. Put God first. Educate yourself about money. And
then paths will open where you can start to build
I prefer the word wealth rather than the word riches.
You can gather your riches because riches in the Bible
are often used in a negative way. But wealth is
(29:01):
many times used in Scripture in a positive way, such
as in Deuteronomy 8, verse 18. It says that the
Lord is the one who gives you the power to
get wealth. And don't forget that. Don't forget God, because
he's the one who gives you the power to get wealth.
So it's biblical to be growing your wealth, growing your income,
(29:27):
growing your resources so that you can provide for others,
give to others, meet your own needs. And I've got
a long-term goal. So once I've been studying these things,
I thought to myself, I wish I'd been doing this
since I was 20. But now I'm 67. But I'm still,
(29:47):
I'm hoping to be around for quite a while. If
the Lord doesn't come, I want to be around forever
when Jesus comes. But in this life, you know, I've
got my wife, my kids, my family, my responsibilities. And
I'm thinking long-term. So I'm developing my investment accounts. I'm
developing different avenues of income. And I'm slowly doing this,
(30:08):
thinking years down the road so that if time goes
on long enough and I get to be 80 years
old or 85 years old, Warren Buffett is 90, I
think he's 94 years and he's still out there working
for Berkshire Hathaway and he's still, you know, investing and
the guy's 94 years old. And so I'm thinking, well,
(30:31):
if I get to be, you know, 94 years old,
which I hope, hope to get to a hundred, uh,
I want to have things in a row by that
time so that I can, you know, not be in
the poor house and, uh, you know, not have my, my,
not be a burden to my kids so that they
have to take care of dad because dad, you know,
(30:53):
didn't know what to do. And now dad's old. And now,
you know, you, they got to pay for me. You know,
I don't want that to happen.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
So I've got, what's the scripture to perspective. It's not,
not just talking about finance, of course, but this is
a good man leaves an inheritance to his children and
his children's children.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Not just talking about finance, of course, but legacy. Yep.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
And that Bible verse is in my book.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
And I'm glad you keep bringing up this stewardship and
wealth building. So how does someone delineate the differences between
the biblical stewardship and worldly wealth building?
Speaker 5 (31:36):
Yeah, good question.
Speaker 8 (31:38):
The difference is your motive and how you do it.
The way God wants us to build wealth is honestly.
We don't want to cheat others. We don't want to
take advantage of others. We want to do it in
an honest way. And we also want to do it
(32:01):
with the purpose in mind of honoring God and growing
our wealth so that we can be more of a
blessing to other people. So Here's a perfect verse for that.
It's in Ephesians chapter four, verse 28, 27 and 28.
(32:26):
Paul said, I'll read it. He said, neither give place
to the devil. Don't give any place to Satan. And
then he says, let him who stole steal no more. Now,
this is quoting.
Speaker 5 (32:39):
The Eighth Commandment.
Speaker 8 (32:40):
When you look at the Ten Commandments, the Eighth Commandment says,
you shall not steal. Some people mistakenly think that when
Jesus came, the Ten Commandments were just for the Jews
and that's all behind us now. I don't believe that
at all here. I think that's a complete misinterpretation of
the New Testament.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
So here's Paul.
Speaker 8 (32:58):
Here's Paul, you know, Christian Paul, the Apostle Paul, who
wrote the majority of the New Testament books.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
Yeah, 13 of them. As a matter of fact, 13
of them.
Speaker 8 (33:07):
And he said, if you've been stealing, which is breaking
God's law, he said, stop stealing. In other words, you
should be, you know, bring your life by God's grace
into harmony with the eighth commandment. And then he elaborates
even more. He says, let him who stole steal no more.
In other words, stop doing that, but rather let him
labor working with his hands, the thing, which is good.
(33:32):
So you want to earn your money. in a, in
a way that's good. You're not, you know, selling, uh,
you know, alcohol. I don't believe in selling alcohol. I
don't believe we should be, you know, distributing drugs and
making money that way.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
We should be working with his hands. The thing, which
is good.
Speaker 8 (33:51):
It says that he may have to give to him
that needs, uh, So all the principles are right here.
By God's grace, you receive forgiveness because you've broken his law.
Stop doing that. Now you get a job. You work
in a field that is good, that's actually helping people,
helping humanity. And so the purpose of this, here's your motive.
(34:12):
This is the difference between trying to just get rich
and trying to build wealth for the benefit of others.
It says that he may have to give to him
who needs.
Speaker 5 (34:23):
So there's the reason.
Speaker 8 (34:24):
So the difference between Falling into the trap of the
love of money as compared to building wealth for a
good purpose is, you know, why are you doing this
and how are you doing it? Are you doing it
with a motive that you want to follow Jesus and
build your talents and have more so you can give?
(34:45):
Or are you doing it just so you can have a,
you know, big fancy car and a huge house? And
I'm not saying that, you know, there are people that
do have big houses, but they also are very giving people.
So I'm not against wealth, but it just depends on
what you do with the wealth that you have.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
And intentions.
Speaker 5 (35:04):
Why you're earning it. That's right. Your intentions. That's exactly right.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
So for those who do have debt and their questions,
how should they view their debt?
Speaker 8 (35:19):
Yeah, great question. I'm not against all debt. There's good
debt and there's bad debt. And there's some debt that's
worse than other debts. So it depends on the kind
of debt. So if it's a credit card debt, that's
a very bad debt. And that should be eliminated as
quickly as you can. You should sacrifice things that you want.
(35:43):
Don't buy those things until you pay off your debt.
So there's needs and there's wants. And if you have
a credit card debt, meet your needs. Restrict your wants
until you pay off that debt because that's a bad debt.
So the next kind of debt would be a car loan.
(36:03):
I think it's much better to look around, try to
get a good deal, and pay for your car with cash.
Because as soon as you drive a car off a
lot or as soon as you buy it, it's going to,
cars don't appreciate in value unless they're really old cars,
you know, that you can, that are maybe worth a lot.
(36:24):
But the average car, it depreciates in value. You might
buy it for $ 10, drive it off the lot, and
then if you try to sell it, you can only.
Speaker 5 (36:32):
Get $ 6 for it or $ 5 for it. That's just
the way it is.
Speaker 8 (36:35):
So car debt, I would avoid as much as you can.
But it's not as bad as credit card debt because
you do need to drive to work. And if you
need to take out a loan to get a car
or at least finance a portion of it, pay as
much cash as you can, finance a portion of it,
get to work, earn the money, and pay off the loan.
So that's the car debt. The next kind of debt
(36:56):
would be an educational debt. So like my son just
graduated from college and his debt was about, he went
first year, second year, third year, no debt. And then
he finally got to his fourth year and he did
accumulate about a $ 7, 500 debt. But with the help of
his family, we paid that debt off. So when he
(37:17):
graduated last Sunday, he has no debt. So but but that's,
you know, educational debt is is a debt for a purpose.
So I wouldn't put it in the same category as
a credit card debt. It's your your financing, your future
and your education.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
But if you can.
Speaker 8 (37:35):
Get the farther you can get without a debt and
you can get that debt down or have no debt,
if you get a good good GPA, you'll get more grants,
you'll get scholarships, you know, things like that can help.
Uh oh.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Steve, can you hear me? I don't know if the
stream's still working or if I am experiencing something on
my end here. I seem to be frozen. Steve, can
you hear me? Oh, shoot. Seems to have dropped. Stream
(38:14):
seems to have dropped Steve. I'm not for sure what's
going on. Hopefully we can get back. You know, he
said something about storms. So let's see, is it still,
are we still live? I'm trying to check here. Stream,
(38:38):
see if it's still going. Seems to have dropped there
as well. See if that's still up. All right, that
seems to be still going as well. I'm sure Steve
(38:58):
will be back as soon as he can. I'm sure
that was his minor setback probably due to the storms.
He was talking about storms before. We'll just be patient
and wait for him to get back. In the meantime,
as we wait for Steve to return, Curtis is messaging
(39:24):
me right now. He's praying.
Speaker 5 (39:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
Yeah, I believe it may be due to the storms.
So just hang with us real tight. And, you know,
I'm reminded right now of some of the things that
we need to cover here. But, oh, here he comes.
He's coming back. I'm coming back to the stage here, Steve.
Speaker 8 (39:51):
Yeah, I think it was that storm I was telling
you about. We lost, I think we lost power, but
it looks like I'm back on. I don't know what's
going on outside, but I was warned on my phone
of an alert that there's a severe thunderstorm warning in
my area until 645. So that's another four minutes. So,
(40:13):
but you got me back, right?
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Yep. I got you back. I can hear you. And
you're back on the stage and everything. Um, okay.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (40:21):
I remember where I left off.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (40:22):
I was talking about, uh, my son and how his
debt's been paid, his educational debt. And that, so credit
card debt, very bad auto loan debt, not as bad,
but not good, uh, educational debt to finance, you know,
going to school and going to college. This is a
better debt because you're actually funding with debt, your education.
(40:44):
And hopefully you'll be able to pay that off when
you get a job after you graduate. But the other
kind of debt, which I would put in the good category,
is … I was.
Speaker 3 (40:55):
Going to say really quickly, speaking of good debt, I'm
hoping to be able to attend Hillsdale in the next
couple of years myself. So looking forward to that. Hopefully
that can happen.
Speaker 8 (41:07):
Yeah, and you might need a little bit of financial
help to do that with a loan.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (41:13):
But I would consider, like I said, funding your education
with some debt. It's not like overexpending on a credit card.
So the final source of the final debt, I'm sure
there's probably other kinds of kinds of debt, but the bigger,
I'm dealing with the big ones would be a mortgage.
So when I, um, when I moved from California to Idaho,
(41:37):
we bought a house at a good price. We sold
our house in California and we had some, we had
enough money for the down payment and, on our Idaho property,
which was five acres. And we bought it at a
good time in the market. And we put so much
money down and we financed the rest. And so that's
(41:59):
where I started. You asked me, you know, how did
I get all this started? How did I write my book? Well,
it had to do partially with, I realized that my
property in Idaho was about ready to be paid off.
That was a goal that I had was to pay
off my mortgage. And I did that. And then I
needed to figure out what I'm going to do with
my extra money. But anyway, my point is that we
(42:20):
did use debt. We financed the lion's share, the bulk
of our property in Idaho. And what a blessing that was.
We lived in a beautiful part of the world in
North Idaho, five acres surrounded by pine trees. And I
planted a couple of orchards and a garden. And I
(42:41):
had lots of berries there. And our property appreciated. And
not only that, but we turned our barn, we had
a big barn, a pole barn, which through a lot
of donations and people helping us, we turned that into
the headquarters of White Horse Media. And God just blessed
that from A to Z. And for 17 years, and
(43:03):
it wasn't that long, but it was over 10 years
in Idaho, White Horse Media was producing programs in our studio.
Through those programs, we were reaching people.
Speaker 5 (43:12):
All around the world.
Speaker 8 (43:13):
So many people's lives have been changed through White Horse Media.
Now that we've moved to Tennessee, we sold our property.
White Horse Media moved into its own building. Now my
family has a house in Tennessee. In the basement, I've
got my studio. If I would have decided years ago
in 2009, I don't want to go into any kind
(43:35):
of debt so I can't finance the purchase of this property,
then I never would have had those five acres. My
kids wouldn't have grown up in the country. I wouldn't
have had all that good fruits and vegetables from my land.
And we wouldn't have had White Horse Media moving inside
(43:55):
this building and having a studio and 19 offices and
this beautiful building that we were producing programs and shipping products.
And my property wouldn't have appreciated so that when I
sold it, I could then have this property in Tennessee.
So the benefits of financing a property with a mortgage,
(44:18):
in my mind, have far outweighed the fact that I
did have a debt for a time. So when you
ask me, what do you think about debt? It's not
just a simple answer. I wouldn't just say, stay out
of debt, because that needs to be clarified. credit card debt,
(44:40):
auto debt, student loan debt, mortgage, mortgage debt. I think
they're all in different categories and I'm not against all
debt as long as it's a wise debt and we
don't over leverage and take out more debt than we're
able to, to handle.
Speaker 7 (45:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
Like, you know, when you're two people and you buy
a five, six bedroom house, I mean, some people's line
of thinking, oh, we're going to have a whole bunch
of kids or something like that. I'm like, but you
make $ 30, 000 a year. That's right. And even Indiana, where
(45:24):
cost of living is much lower than most of the states,
that math don't math.
Speaker 5 (45:33):
That's right. And Josh, a lot of people, and I respect.
Speaker 8 (45:39):
People in all classes and wherever they are on this
financial scale. But there are many people that, you know,
they're just living from paycheck to paycheck and they're just
trying to pay, pay their bills. And they can't even
think at this point about, you know, investing or building
wealth because they've just got to, you know, they got
(46:03):
to make the mortgage payment or the rent payment. And
they're just really struggling. And, and, and, you know, That's
where a lot of people are at, but there is,
there is a path to improve your finances. And I
believe it's possible. There's a lot of people that have
started out at the bottom and by God's grace, they've
(46:25):
grown their, their wealth and they've become philanthropists and they've
become people that can write large checks to help ministries
like yours and ours. And a lot of people have
a lot of stories that, But it's come through, you know,
not taking the elevator, but taking the stairs. First, you've
got to have a vision. A lot of it has
(46:46):
to do with the mind. You know, the Bible says,
as a man thinks, so is he. So I've learned,
the more I read the Bible, the more I pray
for the Holy Spirit, the more I grow in my
Christian life, I realize the deep significance of how I think.
And if you don't think... Like there's a saying, if
(47:08):
you aim for nothing, you'll hit it. And if you
don't think you can improve your life or that God
can help you improve your life step by step and
get out of the situation that you're in or the
rut that you're in and make progress, if you don't
think it's possible, then you're not.
Speaker 5 (47:24):
Going to do it.
Speaker 8 (47:25):
You won't be able to do it. So a lot
of people that are into finances, the first thing they
do is they teach you how to think. That you
need to think differently. You need to think that all
things are possible, at least if you're a Christian, all
things are possible with God. There's nothing that's impossible with God.
(47:48):
And so we need to think bigger and think that
God can help me. And then we need to start
educating ourselves. And moving in that direction. And again, you know,
the widow, the story. So you've got quite a continuum
or a range of people. Like on the one hand,
in the Bible, you've got Job and you've got Abraham.
It says in Genesis 13, verse 2, that Abraham was
(48:11):
very wealthy in cattle, in silver, and in gold. He
was a wealthy man. And then on the other side,
you've got the poor woman, the widow, who put her
two mites into the offering at the temple. And that's
all she had. And Jesus commended her. He commended her
and he commended Abraham. He loves them both. So whether
(48:32):
you're Abraham or whether you're the poor widow with two mites,
you can still start where you are. Like, again, the saying,
I heard it recently and I thought, that's a good line.
I've got to share that. And the line is, think
big and start small. So you have to train your
mind according to scripture and think big. bigger than where
(48:56):
you are. And then you need to pray that God
will help you to take the steps to improve your situation.
And I believe that, uh, you know, well, my book's
called be wise with your money, but really it's being
wise with your life and how you handle money comes
out of your life. Jesus said, from the overflow of
(49:19):
the heart, the mouth speaks and whether you can earn
money or not and what you do with your money.
And if you build your wealth or how you give
to others, it really starts with your heart and with
your relationship with Jesus and with your faith that God
can help you step by step to improve your life.
(49:39):
And so, you know, it's very practical and circumstances are
different for different people. If you're looking for a job,
if you're out of work, don't rely on a government check.
You know, learn how to find employment. That's what God
wants us to do. He wants us to learn how
(50:01):
to find employment. And my daughter, she's 18 years old.
And when we first moved here, In Idaho, she tried
to get a job and she struck out. She couldn't
find a job in our area. When we moved here
to Tennessee, she decided to wait a year before she
went to college. And so she looked for a job.
She put in many applications. She went for many interviews.
Speaker 5 (50:24):
Nothing. But we encouraged her, you know, don't give up, Abby.
Just keep going. God will open the door. And he did.
Speaker 3 (50:31):
He did.
Speaker 8 (50:32):
So she got her first job about eight months ago
at a sushi restaurant. And she was getting paid, I
think it was like $ 16 an hour.
Speaker 5 (50:43):
Not bad. And then she got a raise. And she
was up to like $ 18 an hour.
Speaker 8 (50:49):
And her employer loved her.
Speaker 5 (50:51):
Because she was a good worker. She was a hard worker.
She was faithful.
Speaker 8 (50:55):
And she built up, she was building up her own
bank account because she had a job. And so that
job came to an end because she's getting ready to
go to college now. She's going to start in college
in this area, and she's going to start in July.
But she knew she needed to get a job on
campus because she'd like to work while she's going to school.
(51:17):
It's going to help with her incidental expenses or lab
fees or whatever. And so today was her first day.
Speaker 5 (51:25):
At the library.
Speaker 8 (51:26):
So she's working on campus at a library. She got
her first day from 9.30 to 1.30. She had her
training and I saw her earlier today.
Speaker 5 (51:33):
And she said, dad, I loved it. I loved my training.
I'm going to love this job.
Speaker 8 (51:38):
And so the point is that you may strike out
in getting a job, but you just keep at it.
Don't give up, keep praying and, you know, work it,
you know, look for the ads, look for the jobs,
look for the.
Speaker 5 (51:51):
Signs that say, you And then you just keep going.
And then you work your way up.
Speaker 3 (52:00):
Sometimes you're meant to be an entrepreneur and build it
from the ground up.
Speaker 8 (52:04):
Right. That's another option. That's another option. Instead of being
an employee, you become an employee. You're in business for yourself.
And so those options are available too. And that's where
you need to learn the landscape. It's a great time
to be alive because.
Speaker 3 (52:24):
I mean, as far as financially speaking and being an
entrepreneur is the best time to be alive because we
can actually, it doesn't take that much research either. Like
a simple, a simple mind can do this, go online.
YouTube has a ton of it as well, but just
go online and research. What are the proven markets? What works?
Speaker 5 (52:45):
You know, what can you do? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (52:47):
What, just look at what works and do that. And
you're like, but is it, this is that simple? Yes,
it is that simple. It, it, and yes, uh, some
things do, do, uh, need capital to get started up.
I wouldn't start there. I'd start with the things. It
was like, what takes little to no capital? Look at
those research, those things. Um, that's, that's, that's how I'm
(53:08):
able to, you know, supplement keeping my lights on a
lot of times is I look at, see what, what works. Um,
and then, cause I'm, I'm, I'm very like entrepreneurial minded.
I like, I like to, build. I mean, you know,
we're in our fifth year over at my, on my,
on my network revolver broadcasting. Everything is, everything is supplemented
or taken care of by taking, taking the time, doing
(53:31):
the research and saying, okay, what works? What's true? What
are the proven markets? What are the proven things to, to,
to make money and then do that or re or
remodel it or remold it? And like what takes little
to no capital to, to build from the ground up and,
And you can find there's so many things out there nowadays,
especially with AI, which can be used as a great tool.
Speaker 6 (53:54):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (53:57):
I agree completely. Yeah, it can be used as a
great tool. You can automate these things. I hear you
talk about making the money work for you. If you
can make the business work for you as well, once
it gets generating money, then you're getting that money and
then using that money to then generate more money. making
(54:18):
it work in tandem both ways. I mean, you, you could,
you could have the potential to make money hand over fist,
but not, not for wealth sake, obviously. As we're looking
at the, we're talking about the biblical principles and everything,
being a giver, being, you know, being, being able to
giving heart and God loves a joyful giver.
Speaker 5 (54:41):
That's right. That's right.
Speaker 8 (54:43):
And I feel exactly the same way. I, we've, I
get my salary from white horse media, but I've developed
other sources of income as well. And I've got the
goal in mind as to what you just said. So I,
on the side, uh, some friends of mine, we've put
together two online courses. One of them is to teach
people how to grow sprouts and micro greens in their home,
(55:05):
which is very, very healthy. It's very inexpensive. So for
under 50, for under 50 bucks, uh, People can go
to sproutingwithsteve.com. That's our website, Sprouting with Steve. And for
under $ 50, they can learn how to grow lentil sprouts,
broccoli sprouts, all kinds of sprouts to add to their
(55:25):
salads that are very nutritious. They're very healthy. It'll help
you with your health, cut down your medical bills, increase
your longevity. They taste great. And this is another way
we're developing this source of extra income through sproutingwithsteve.com. And
then we have another website called growyourmoneywithgod.com that teaches people
(55:47):
about investing. And that's under $ 100, just one-time fee. And
it's an investment in people's financial education. It will teach
them how to find an online platform, how to invest,
how to create what's called a pie with a portion
of your pie, let's say precious metals. Another portion would
be You know, the S & P 500 or the big,
(56:07):
heavily traded businesses in America. Another would be value, which
would be like Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club. And then we've
got a growth section where people are investing in such
things like NVIDIA and, you know, higher growth companies. And
you put together a pie where you've got 10%.
Speaker 5 (56:25):
In this, 15% in this, 50% in that.
Speaker 8 (56:27):
And you link it to your bank account so you
can be putting in 50 bucks a month for your
long-term financial health. And so at growyourmoneywithgod.com, that's what I've
tried to do as well. And we're going to be
using AI to try to promote these small businesses to
give people value for their financial health and their physical
(56:48):
health so they can benefit from this for a very
inexpensive price. And if enough people choose to do this,
then it's going to provide extra streams of income for
me and some others. which is what you're trying to
do as well. And so you have to find your
niche and then you have to learn how to do it.
(57:09):
There may be some trial and error, but there's a
lot that's doable these days in this world of technology.
And we need to learn about it and work it
for the glory of God and for the benefit of
our families and to become givers to help God's work,
(57:29):
the umbrella of God's leadership. And then it describes who
doesn't work on the Sabbath. It says you don't work
or your son or your daughter. And if you have
a family, that means you're obviously providing for your kids
and you teach them to work during the six days
and rest on the seventh. And then it says, or
your manservant or your maidservant. And you mentioned being an entrepreneur,
(57:51):
that business is another option, self having your own business
rather than just working for somebody. If you're working during
the six days, and your life is under God's umbrella
and you're building up your, your resources wisely, then you can,
at some point you can shift from being an employee
where you're working for others all the time. And then
you start becoming an employer and you hire other people
(58:15):
to work for you. And that's where you have your
manservant and your maidservant because they are, they're not slaves.
They are employees and, who maybe work out in the
field to help with the crops or help with mom
in the house. And you're building your wealth by hiring
other people to work for you. And then it says,
or your cattle, your cows aren't to work on the Sabbath.
(58:38):
And the cow is an asset. The cow, you've heard
of cash producer, cash cow. So back in Bible days,
you get meat or milk from the cow. You get
milk from the goat. You get wool from the sheep.
You get transportation from the donkey or the horse. And
these are your assets. So you work, you make money,
and eventually, hopefully, you can even hire somebody else to
(59:00):
work for you and grow your wealth. And then you
build up your assets. And your assets, the goal is
that when you're too old and you can't work, that
you're assets are providing for you. You've got your cash
producing assets. And that's kind of like your social security,
your retirement plan.
Speaker 5 (59:20):
And then it says, or the.
Speaker 8 (59:21):
Stranger who's within your gates. So the stranger is someone
that needs help maybe, or maybe he's passing through, or
maybe he needs help. And you bring him in, you
give him food, you maybe give him a job, help
him to work in your field.
Speaker 5 (59:33):
And then the.
Speaker 8 (59:33):
Cycle continues where you teach him to start building his income.
And then eventually he can, you know, have some wealth
and he can have a family and he can start
developing his own cash producing assets and he can start
helping other people as well. So the fourth commandment gives
you like a life vision for your whole life from
the beginning to the end and what the goal is
(59:55):
to honor God, to be obedient to him and to
use your talents, to build up your assets, and to
be a blessing to the stranger. So it's all in
there in the fourth commandment. It just blew my mind
when I looked at the fourth commandment from a financial perspective.
It's just the principles there are very deep, and they're advanced,
(01:00:17):
and they're powerful.
Speaker 6 (01:00:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:20):
You're answering my questions as we're going along. So I'm like,
I'm going to ask him this. And it's like, Nope,
he's answering that.
Speaker 6 (01:00:25):
All right.
Speaker 5 (01:00:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
But, um, it's almost like, you know, uh, but it's,
it's fantastic. Um, I want to kind of lean in,
if I may lean into some challenging questions. Um, uh,
some people say that, uh, Christians shouldn't, uh, worry about
retirement because Jesus is coming soon. Cause you mentioned that earlier. Um, uh,
(01:00:48):
how would you respond to that? That people, people that
really are leaning that, that direction that they think that
I shouldn't, I just really shouldn't worry about it because,
you know, well, the end might be tomorrow. What, why
am I still doing the storehouse? Why am I still
building for a future that isn't, that isn't coming? And yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:01:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:01:11):
So here's the answer, Josh. First of all, you don't
know that future isn't coming.
Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
Right.
Speaker 5 (01:01:15):
It may come. And then what? You know, what then?
Speaker 8 (01:01:19):
So years ago, when I first bought my property in Idaho,
I thought to myself, do I want to start, you know, clearing,
clearing land, putting up a fence, planting fruit trees, which
takes sometimes years to bear fruit because, you know, the
Lord's coming and it's, is it a waste of time?
I decided, no, I'm going to do it. So I
planted my orchard. I had my plum tree, my peach trees,
(01:01:43):
my apricot trees. And I planted my strawberry patch and
my blueberry patch and my raspberry patch. And, you know,
years later, I was eating, enjoying a lot of healthy food.
And I wouldn't have done that if I would have thought, well,
you know, we don't have time. No point in planting
an orchard. You know, no point in getting married and
having kids. No point in thinking about college. And then
(01:02:06):
you take the next step. Well, what about retirement? So
let me give you a biblical answer to your question.
Proverbs 6. Verses 6 to 11, Solomon said, go to
the ant, you lazy person, and consider its ways and
be wise, which the ants have no guide, overseer, or ruler.
(01:02:28):
They provide their meat in the summer and they gather
their food in the harvest. So ants are very smart
and they're thinking about the future. So in the summer months,
they're very active. And they gather food and store it
under the ground. And they know the reason why they're
doing this is because they know summer is not going
(01:02:49):
to last forever. And fall is going to come and
then winter is going to come and the snow is
going to come down if you live in North Idaho. And,
you know, the ants want to provide for the colony.
So they prepare for the winter months during the summer months.
And then verse 9 says, how long will you sleep,
O sluggard, O lazy person? When will you arise out
(01:03:11):
of your sleep? yet a little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to sleep, so shall
your poverty come as one that travels and your want
as an armed man. And the imagery is, if you
don't do anything in preparing for your future, then poverty
(01:03:31):
is going to be like a traveler way off in
the distance who's going to be getting closer and closer
and closer and closer and closer. And then finally, he's
going to hit you like an armed bandit And you're
going to have nothing left. And so Proverbs is using
the ant as an illustration to prepare during the summer
(01:03:54):
for the future. Because if you don't, poverty is going
to strike you like an armed man. So there's your
answer there. You know, what do you say to people
that say we don't need to think about retirement because
the Lord's about to come? You know, they should learn
the lesson from the ant. Proverbs 6, verses 6 to 11.
(01:04:15):
The wisest man in history was Solomon, who was given
wisdom from God, and he prepared. Another biblical example is Joseph.
When Joseph interpreted the Pharaoh's dreams about the seven fat
calves and the seven skinny calves and the seven fat
(01:04:37):
ears of corn and the seven skinny ears of corn,
He told Pharaoh, this is what's going to happen. God
is showing you that Egypt's going to have seven good
years and then seven terrible years. And so then the
Pharaoh appointed Joseph as his prime minister to develop a
plan to save Egypt. And so he did. He said,
all right, during the seven good years, we need to
(01:04:59):
store up a certain amount of grain. And then when
the seven famine years come, we'll be able to feed Egypt.
And that's what he did. And so when Joseph's family
came down from Egypt or down from Canaan, it was,
you know, Jacob and his family and they were starving.
They came and they eventually lived in Egypt and it
(01:05:20):
saved the family. And through this family, Jesus was born
to save the world. And so there's an example of
thinking about your earthly future and God blessing it phenomenally,
ultimately to bring Jesus into this world through that family.
to die on the cross for our sins and rise
from the dead. So God thinks long-term. I shared this
(01:05:44):
with somebody recently. In the Garden of Eden, he gave
the initial promise that the seed would come and he
would crush the head of the serpent and the serpent
would bruise his heel. And that was a promise of
the coming of Jesus. 4,000 years later, Jesus was born
in Bethlehem. Jesus died on the cross and he rose
from the dead. 2,000 years later, we're still here. And
(01:06:06):
I believe the Lord is coming soon But the point is,
God thinks long-term. And his goal in allowing the sin
experiment or the sin tragedy to go on all this
time is so that when he finally puts an end
to it, he carries the sympathy of the universe and
the understanding of the universe with him that sin is
(01:06:28):
a disaster. And when he gets rid of it, it's
never going to come again because the demonstration has been complete.
And that's why God's been allowing this to go on.
And so God, from the very beginning of the fall
of Satan to this day and the fall of Adam
and Eve, God is thinking with the big picture in mind.
(01:06:50):
And that day will come. And we don't know when
it will come. But while we're here, we need to
be wise with our lives, our influence, our talents, and
our money so that we can be a blessing to others.
And I think retirement fits right in with that.
Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
Yeah, go by his example and also think long-term.
Speaker 5 (01:07:11):
That's right. Go by his example and think long-term. Exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
Yeah, because you reminded me of something a woman in
my family used to say. She used to tell us,
don't go out buying green bananas. Don't go... Steve, that
was 20 years ago.
Speaker 8 (01:07:32):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
I'm going... Well, I bought a lot of green bananas
since then, so it turns out no man knows the
day nor the hour, nor woman.
Speaker 5 (01:07:40):
That's right.
Speaker 8 (01:07:41):
And I never expected to be as old as I am,
but I am. And now that I've learned the principles
that I've learned, I'm thinking long-term. I mean, I'm thinking
my ultimate long-term vision is heaven, is forever, living with
Jesus and with the angels and with his people in
the new earth, with the new heavens and the new earth,
in the kingdom of God forever and ever and ever.
(01:08:03):
And my priority in life is to be there and
to help other people to be there. That's what White
Horse Beauty is all about. That's the goal of my life.
But now that I'm 67 and I'm still here, I'm
also starting to think, if I stay healthy, if I
swim and exercise and eat a good diet and keep
growing my sprouts and my microgreens and having live salads,
(01:08:27):
I can cut my medical bills. I can live a
lot longer. And if I'm here for longer, you know,
I want to make sure that I have funds to
live on and to grow for my family. So now
I'm thinking I'd like to, you know, if the Lord tarry,
I want to make it to 100. And I want
to have something to give in my estate plan and
(01:08:51):
to help my family and to help the Lord's work.
And I never used to think that way. I never
used to think that way. But now I'm thinking that
way because I've been studying money. and the Bible and, and, uh,
finances for quite a while. And what a blessing it's
been to me.
Speaker 6 (01:09:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
Well, not only that, but you get to witness, uh,
its effects, right? Cause if you're living to a hundred,
you're going to get to see a whole lot of
how that legacy moves forward. Uh, that's right.
Speaker 8 (01:09:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
Um, So this may be a little, I don't know,
I'll just ask the question. Is it possible for someone
to become a little too focused on preparing financially?
Speaker 5 (01:09:35):
Definitely.
Speaker 8 (01:09:36):
We can be too focused on anything. We can lose
our balance. We can become unbalanced. We can become obsessed
with anything. So even a good thing, if it becomes
too important to us, can become a bad thing. So
(01:09:57):
that's where wisdom comes in. The book of Proverbs is
all about wisdom and finding the balance. And so, you know,
we can, yeah, I mean, but that doesn't negate financial responsibility.
Speaker 5 (01:10:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
I know that I've been guilty of that in the past.
My wife says, you work too much, you work too much,
you work too much, you're a workaholic. And I've had to,
at that time or two, repent of that with the
Lord because it's just kind of, I have this like
laser focus. And once I got my mind on something,
someone has to break me of it. I have to
be reminded. So that's one of the, I think it's
(01:10:36):
one of the good things about entrepreneurship is because at
any point, whatever I'm doing, my wife can go, Hey,
Go take a break. Hey, it's time to go have
a meal and just talk about your day or whatever
and decompress. Because we can't. It's so easy to get
(01:10:58):
caught up.
Speaker 8 (01:10:59):
Yeah, we become imbalanced. And so, yeah, life is a balancing.
Speaker 5 (01:11:04):
Act, Josh. And you know that. We have to toggle.
So in my world, I have a saying.
Speaker 8 (01:11:10):
Four words that start with F.
Speaker 5 (01:11:14):
F like Frank.
Speaker 8 (01:11:16):
So the first word is faith. That's my priority is
my relationship with God, my faith. And that encompasses, you know,
our ministry, sharing Jesus, everything that has to do with
my faith. And the second F is my family. My
family is a big priority for me. And my third
(01:11:36):
F is my fitness, that I need to take time
to walk, to swim, to.
Speaker 5 (01:11:45):
I'm a jogger.
Speaker 8 (01:11:46):
I don't jog fast, but I move and I keep
going for a while. Whether it's push-ups or stretches, and
that includes also eating a good diet, my health, taking
time to grow my garden. I've got five fruit trees
in my backyard. My brand new fig tree's got 25
figs on it, and I'm pretty pumped up about that.
(01:12:08):
I love figs, so I take time to spend in
my orchard. I take time to be with my family.
And my last F is finances, my financial responsibility. So
I do spend a certain amount of time working on
improving my money, my financial world. And I've got to
(01:12:30):
balance all of that. So if I'm all focused on
money and becoming too obsessed with it, then I'm neglecting
my kids, spending time with my daughter and my son
and my wife. Yesterday was Father's Day. And I spent
the whole day with my family. It was fantastic. And
so there's got to be that balance. If you spend
(01:12:51):
all your time YouTubing and working on growing your revolver ministry,
but you lose your health or you don't spend enough
time with your wife, you're going to break.
Speaker 5 (01:13:07):
So you've got to have the balance.
Speaker 8 (01:13:09):
And I've realized that, that I need to spend time
and exercising and researching, you know, getting a good diet.
And I need to also spend time thinking about the money,
but I need to spend time with Kristen and Seth
and Abby. And I need to spend my prayer time
(01:13:29):
with Jesus, reading my Bible and putting him first so
that he can help me in all the other things.
He helps with the first F. If I can get
the first F right, then I'll get the family and
the fitness and the finances right. So I believe that
Jesus is involved with every area of my life, everything.
And I don't know if I shared this with you
during our last interview, but the game changer for me
(01:13:52):
has been realizing that I need to pray every day
for the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit is the
spirit of truth who guides into all truth. And that
was a game changer for me 37 years ago when
I realized when the Lord impressed me, I need to
start praying for the Holy Spirit. And the more I
do that, he clarifies everything. everything else in my life.
(01:14:13):
The Holy Spirit is like the great clarifier that helps
me to see the different parts and how they all
need to go together and the balance that I need.
And it's wonderful. I've just been so blessed by praying
for the spirit of truth to guide my mind into
all truth. It's changed my life. It's helped me. And
(01:14:36):
for anybody that's watching this, there's the number one recommendation
that I can give you in your life is to
pray for the Holy Spirit every day. And the more
you do that, you'll get clarity about everything else.
Speaker 3 (01:14:50):
Yeah. Something to be said about prayer and supplication. It
seems to be the theme of everything. Everywhere I go
here recently, we would, between our Bible study, what we
do over there in Revolver Broadcasting, it's Morning Word, and
reading a lot about prayer. When I was at church
this last Wednesday night, Um, first time I had been
able to go in the building and I've been quite
(01:15:11):
a while, cause I've been out there trying to, you know,
make money and stuff, uh, to, to make, keep the
lights on. So as you said before, you know, um,
so it was nice to be able to go to church.
The pastor actually invited me and he was like, we're
starting a new series. And then the series ended up
not happening. And then he had to pivot. And when
he pivoted, he said, well, something's been on my heart prayer.
And so he did a whole message on prayer and, um,
(01:15:32):
something that, uh, we, we focus major on, uh, at revolver.
is cultivating a culture of prayer. So we actually have
a prayer list that we have on our website. So
people can go there and they can pray for everybody
by name. So not only praying for their own homes
and their own families, but everybody that just needs the prayer.
(01:15:56):
And so I want to encourage anyone that's watching or
listening right now, you don't have to visit revolverbroadcasting.com to
see all the content. You can just go there. to
fill out the email form and let us know you
need prayer because that's, my friends always go, you must be,
you must be a super, we call it popular because
(01:16:19):
your phone's always going off. And I said, no, no, no, no.
I'm not popular. God's popular. It's people messaging me, letting
me know that they've been to the website and they've prayed.
I get over, over 50 messages a day of people,
individuals saying prayed, which means that they've, been diligent not
only to go to the website, but to pray for
every single name. And we've watched, I was so glad
(01:16:45):
you brought this up because it was like, we've watched
so many of those names either come off the list
or at least part of what they've asked for has
been answered in such a fantastic way. And we've had
some that they're on the list one day and then
the very next day, I got to take them right
back off the list because the praise report came through
God answered this in a big way, changed this completely
(01:17:06):
around in one day. It's so quick that God, God
can give you whiplash on how fast he can answer
and how great he can answer more than you ever expected. Uh,
we had a lady who, who emailed us and said
that she felt like evil was entering her home. Uh,
it changed her husband. It made her son turn against her. Um, Uh,
(01:17:27):
it was just a dark presence and she couldn't explain it.
And she, all of a sudden she had a blood
pressure issue that she had never had in her entire life.
She's always had very great health. She eats right. She
exercises all the stuff. Right. And, uh, so we put
her on the prayer list the very next day. She
emails back and says, uh, she goes, I don't know
what happened, but my husband came home and everything was, uh, wonderful.
(01:17:49):
And my son gave me a hug and apologized for
all of his behavior. And, um, our entire household. feels
lighter and brighter and better. And she's continued to report that.
I'm going, amen, right? Yeah, wow.
Speaker 5 (01:18:07):
Yeah, praise the Lord, Josh. I mean, we all need
to be praying.
Speaker 8 (01:18:11):
And that's so, when we talk about money, like I said,
the first thing is God. Get God, get your relation
with God right. And prayer and the Holy Spirit is
a huge part of that. And you're learning the same
thing that I'm learning.
Speaker 3 (01:18:29):
Yeah. And if that doesn't bring you peace, like I
know people say, well, I've got this worry, I've got
that worry. Did you just hear what that lady experienced
through prayer? That should bring you peace.
Speaker 8 (01:18:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:18:42):
Be anxious for nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
Yeah. This storm shall pass too. I mean, it's only
here for now. Our lives are what? A vapor, right?
Speaker 5 (01:18:55):
That's right. Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:18:56):
When we were looking for property in this area, we
looked at a lot of houses. And one house we
walked into, a realtor took me and my wife into
this house. And in the living room, there was a
sign or a saying on the wall above the couch.
And it was from a rock and roll singer that
(01:19:17):
I used to listen to years ago before I became
a Christian.
Speaker 5 (01:19:21):
But it was a good saying.
Speaker 8 (01:19:23):
And the saying was something like, 90% of what I
worry about never happens. And it was signed Tom Petty.
And I don't believe he was a Christian man. But
the saying is true. 90% of what we worry about
doesn't happen. And that's where we need to fortify our
(01:19:45):
minds with the word of God, where the scripture says,
be anxious for nothing. So when we find ourselves worrying
about something, we think, well, we're worrying about something because
we think it's going to happen, but we don't know
what's going to happen. And Jesus is the alpha and
the omega. He's the beginning and the end. And he
that started us will finish us. And he's in charge.
(01:20:06):
And I apply that even to my retirement as I
think about my future and my investment accounts or whatever
I've got going to provide for my future. I think, well,
it may not happen the way I think, but Jesus
is going to be there because he's the Alpha and
he's the Omega. He's the first and he's the last.
And whatever happens, he's in charge and I can trust him.
Speaker 7 (01:20:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
And not only that, but he comes in, he's the
greatest superhero of all time.
Speaker 5 (01:20:36):
That's right.
Speaker 8 (01:20:37):
Better than all the Marvel Avengers and the Hulk and,
you know, Batman and Superman and all those people, Spider-Man,
you know, Jesus is, and it just, it pains me
to see people looking and focusing and idolizing, you know,
(01:20:58):
the actors and the hosts and the politicians and the
people in this world. And I think to myself, Jesus is,
is far above them all. You know, we need to
love him and, and be just captivated by the Lord
because he is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
(01:21:19):
And no matter how good or popular, you know, a
person may be, if they do have any good in them,
it came from Christ. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:21:29):
And they'll, and they'll point you that direction.
Speaker 5 (01:21:31):
That's right. And he's it.
Speaker 8 (01:21:33):
Yeah. I'm sold on him, man. I am sold out
to Jesus being the Lord of my life.
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
That's one of the things that I like, I enjoy
about the actor, comedian, actor, Chris Pratt. He says that
every time he gets a chance to be on stage,
he's got a platform. He's like, I'm only here because
of him. He didn't used to be that way. He
used to be, you know, very, he admits like he
used to be very worldly and and speak with depravity
(01:22:04):
and everything else. But when he found the Lord, everything switched.
Speaker 8 (01:22:08):
Yeah. Good for Chris. I didn't know that, but good
for him. You know, he's God loves these, these people,
even that are in Hollywood or in the movies and these,
you know, these well-known millionaires, he still loves them and
he wants to get ahold of their hearts. And if
he got ahold of Chris Pratt, you know, praise the
Lord for that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:22:29):
And you know, it appears to be genuine. Now we
can never really know because it's always between the individual
and God, but it appears to be a genuine faith
and he professes it quite often. So I, I, I
hope upon hope that it is.
Speaker 8 (01:22:45):
Well, let's hope for the best, you know, let's be
charitable and give a person the benefit of the doubt.
Speaker 7 (01:22:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:22:52):
And even if they're not where we are, you know,
it doesn't mean, you know, we have a long way
to go as well.
Speaker 5 (01:22:58):
And God works with people right where they are.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
Yes, he does. Come as you are. And I was
just talking about that this morning. I said, you know,
the more I find out that I know, the more
I realize I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:23:13):
Yeah, that's true. As long.
Speaker 8 (01:23:18):
As the place we look for what we don't know
is God's word, is the ultimate, the ultimate standard.
Speaker 5 (01:23:29):
Cause it's true.
Speaker 8 (01:23:30):
You know, but some people say, well, I don't know anything.
And so I might as well be open to, uh,
to aliens talking through channelers to give me information from
beyond the stars in some galaxy. And so we have
to have limits. We know what we don't know and
we need to learn a lot, but let's make sure
that our learning is what the Lord wants us to,
(01:23:54):
to learn.
Speaker 3 (01:23:55):
Yeah, absolutely. If I may two more questions.
Speaker 8 (01:23:59):
Sure.
Speaker 3 (01:24:00):
Okay. One of those two being, do you believe that
here in the, at least in the future, reason being
the storing up the storehouse and still continuing this, not
only for obeying the Lord and what he has set
(01:24:21):
before us, but you think that eventually believers could face
restrictions on buying and selling?
Speaker 8 (01:24:28):
Yes, and maybe we can actually have another Bible study together.
I'd be totally open to that. About that time, no
buying and selling, which has to do with money. In
the context of that verse, it's Revelation 13, verse 16
and 17. It's about the mark of the beast. It
says that no man may buy or sell unless he
(01:24:51):
has the mark or the name of the beast or
the number of his name. I know that person very well.
I write books on it. teach on it, do seminars
on it. And so, yes, I do believe that that
time is coming. And when that time comes, when the
mark is enforced, then everybody will have the final choice
to make.
Speaker 5 (01:25:11):
Do we put our earthly.
Speaker 8 (01:25:13):
Lives or our money or our bank accounts or, you know,
paying our bills, providing for our families? Is that more
important than our relationship with God? And if so, they're
going to get the mark of the beast. So they
can continue to live in this world and buy and sell.
But if God is first, if Jesus is first, their
(01:25:34):
creator is first, then they're going to say, even if I,
you know, even if I can't provide, I'm going to
trust the Lord. I'm not going to go along with
the mark. The Lord is going to take care of me.
And I believe it's going to come a final time
when it's going to be raven time. It's going to
be manna time, just like in the old Testament, you know,
when the water, when the rain dried up, God fed
(01:25:57):
Elijah with the ravens. And when the Israelites were in
the wilderness and they had nothing, you know, he brought
water out of the rock and he brought the manna
down from heaven. On the sixth day, there was twice
as much manna. And on the seventh day, there was
(01:26:17):
none to teach them. Again, you know, the principles of
obedience and six days, seventh day, And so the time's
going to come when we can't buy or sell. And
then we say, Lord, my life is in your hands.
And that's going to be the final test. Are we,
you know, is our earthly life and our money more
important than God? Or is God more important than anything
(01:26:41):
in this world? And those who put him first and
can't buy and sell, he's going to feed them.
Speaker 3 (01:26:47):
And they will have built a storehouse to prove that
they would be good stewards of what he gives them.
Speaker 8 (01:26:53):
Well, ultimately, I mean, I think that a storehouse that
we build is good for a while, but there's going
to come a point where, again, it's going to be
raven time and manna time where no earthly. I mean,
I'm all in favor of having a, you know, having
a storehouse and having a pantry and having some things,
you know, laid up. But there comes a point where
(01:27:16):
we can't rely on that either. We're going to be
relying 100% on Jesus alone.
Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
To bring us through.
Speaker 3 (01:27:23):
Yeah. So some, some folks are, are doing that now
day to day. Um, and so, um, if, if you
had just, just one minute to tell Christians how to
handle their money in these, these uncertain times, um, overall,
(01:27:44):
what would you say to them?
Speaker 8 (01:27:46):
Well, I would say handle your money by putting it
on the altar. putting your whole life on the altar
and asking God to be number one in your life.
And then as he's number one in your life, he
will help you in every area, including your finances. And again,
(01:28:09):
just go step by step, get out of debt, bad debt,
my credit card debt, get a job, develop your income,
develop your talents, whether it's as an entrepreneur, whether it's online,
whether it's a brick and mortar job, whatever it is,
there's many jobs out there that are available. And then
(01:28:30):
develop your income, think about your future in a wise way,
put something aside for your future, and ultimately look at
your finance, and your life from the perspective of how
can I give more to my family, provide for my
legitimate needs, and then give more to help the work
(01:28:54):
of God.
Speaker 5 (01:28:54):
In this world.
Speaker 8 (01:28:56):
So we can meet more people in heaven around the
great white throne with shining faces and white robes and
crowns and harps. And we can all kneel with the
angels in this huge crescendo of redeemed humanity and unfallen angels,
(01:29:18):
where we all look at one place, which is the
lamb of God. And say, we're going to say worthy
is the lamb who was slain.
Speaker 5 (01:29:29):
Amen. I want to be there. And that's what it's
all about, man. And I want to be there.
Speaker 8 (01:29:35):
And when the more, if we can see more people
up there and, and using our money to help get
more people up there, you know, that's what it's all about.
Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
Amen to that. But thank you so much, Steve, for,
for joining me today. Once again, guys, check out everything
white horse media. everything this man does. He really loves
the Lord and he's got some great advice. I'm telling you.

Lot of that, you know, this book is under five bucks,
so this will get people started. They can get it
from white horse media and I believe it'll be a
big blessing.
Speaker 6 (01:30:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:30:12):
And it's a, the book is be wise with your
money and these end times, correct? Yes. And so, Yeah.
I mean, that's one less cup of coffee for your
entire month. Just go to work a little groggy one day,
but you get that book and learn something. And we
(01:30:33):
all could use a little more education in this world,
especially when it's self-explored, right?
Speaker 5 (01:30:43):
Of course.
Speaker 8 (01:30:44):
And we also have a lot of resources on The
End Times. On our website. We have a free Bible school.
We have a YouTube channel. And finances is just a
sliver of what we do. But it's an important sliver
