In today's rapidly changing world, we all have questions and
we all want answers. It's on this program that we
get our answers from the Word of God. It's time
for another episode of A Relevant Word with longtime pastor
and bestselling author, Carl Gallup. Welcome to Irrelevant Word with
Pastor Carl Gallups. Carl is the minister of the Hickory
(00:59):
Hammock Baptist Church in the Milton, Florida area, Pensacola region.
My name is Kevin King, and today we're going to
visit something that I've never heard of myself, but it's
something that used to be commonplace a very long time ago,
used to be taught quite a bit. And Carl is
going to maybe introduce this to a lot of people
for the first time. I know it'll be introduced, probably
(01:21):
introduced to me for the first time. But you said
it used to be ubiquitous. Well, in fact, it goes
back to ancient, ancient times. Even the pagans had a
perverted form of it.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
But what you're going to speak of goes from Genesis
to Revelation.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Literally.
Speaker 6 (01:36):
Literally.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Without misusing the word literally. It's literally from Genesis to Revelation.
It's the threshold covenant today on the relevant word.
Speaker 6 (01:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
And so for those of you that are listening now,
and thank you for listening, you're saying, oh, I know
all about that.
Speaker 6 (01:50):
Well, that's cool.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
You're one of a few of very, very many people.
It's cool that you do. But now what I'm going
to do is put it on steroids, the teaching again
real quick in just a few minutes, and then I'm
going to make it relevant. I'm going to show you
how it goes right to spiritual warfare. which is about
as relevant as it gets in our days. We live
in Satan's world, and he is trying to destroy the
(02:13):
threshold covenant of God and set up other covenants, thresholds,
And you'll see in just a moment. But first, for
those of you that don't know about Threshold Covenant, I'm
not talking down to you.
Speaker 6 (02:25):
Most of the church doesn't. Most preachers don't.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Listen, I went all the way through seminary with a
master's of divinity and theology and doctrine and Hebrew and Greek.
I never heard Threshold Covenant, ever, ever, until I got out.
I've been preaching for 40 years now. I've been studying
on my own. And it's like, oh, my goodness, this
should have been taught, a whole class should have been
taught on this in seminary because it literally ties the
(02:50):
Bible together from Genesis to Revelation, helps you to understand
the whole venue of spiritual warfare, Golgotha, the resurrection, what
we're doing now as a church, everything, everything comes into focus.
All right, so let me go to household covenant. Well,
let me first just give a modern-day illustration that will
(03:15):
help a little bit to get this concept in your mind.
So let's say, Kevin, that you and I lived in
more ancient days, and we didn't have courthouses and clerks
of court and records and computers and filing systems, all that.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
But in the meantime, there were still contracts that needed
to be signed. There were weddings that needed to be
agreed upon. There were parcels of land that needed to
be purchased from others, and it needed to be handed
down to their family.
Speaker 6 (03:44):
And you needed some kind of covenant.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
And so one of the most ancient covenants is what's
been known as the Threshold Covenant. Now, God originated this.
In the Garden of Eden, you begin to see the
deeply spiritual nature of it But as you move through
the scriptures, you see it over and over and over again.
But here's the deal. So if you and I were
(04:08):
going to make a covenant, okay, let's say you had
a son, I had a daughter, and they were going
to get married. And I was agreeing to it, and
you were agreeing to it, but we needed to make
a covenant over it. Or if I was buying property
from you, whatever, something important.
Speaker 6 (04:24):
All right.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
The way you would do this is you would go
into your herds, and most people had herds and crops,
and a lot of people had at least a few
sheep and sometimes cattle, etc. And you would pick one
of your choicest animals. You would bring it to the
threshold of your front door, and you would slaughter it there. Now,
most people of any faith at all back in the
(04:47):
ancient times, we've got excavations from Sodom and Gomorrah, from Pompeii.
I mean, modern archaeologists are uncovering all this. And in
the threshold of almost every home and businesses and temples
and shrines and sanctuaries is what's called a groover. It's
(05:07):
a little, it's a groove, it's a trough that runs
right through the middle of the threshold. And you say, well,
what's that about? That's where you put the blood of
the animal or at least some of it. You filled
that up. If the rest of the blood you'd put
in a basin beside it, but you would put blood
in that groover. Well, what'd you do with it then? Well,
then you would take that blood and sometimes you could
(05:30):
put it on the thresholds. I mean, excuse me, on
the doorpost of your home, just so it would be visible.
But as long as it's in that threshold and I'm
coming to your house, let's say you do this at
your house. I'm coming to your house. then I would
come to that front door, I would see the blood,
and I would know that you sacrificed one of your
prize animals. And back then, animals, I mean, clothing came
(05:51):
from them, food came from them. I mean, some of
them were beasts of burden, and you grew your crops
by hitching them up to the equipment and plowing up
the field.
Speaker 6 (06:02):
So this is important.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
It's not like finding a dead rat on the side
of the road and putting some blood there. No, no,
this is something. Not only that, but whatever it was
that you slaughtered and put the blood there, I would
come into your house and we would eat a meal,
and the meal would be that animal. So it would
be a lamb dinner or a steak dinner or a
barbecue or whatever. So I would come to your front door. Now,
(06:27):
if I was still willing to make that covenant with you,
I would step over the threshold, not on it, because
you don't want to disgrace the blood that's in the threshold.
You step over it and you enter into your house.
Let's say I had never been in your house before, ever.
I mean, we were friends, but I'd never been in
your house. Well, guess what I've just done? I've entered
(06:48):
another dimension of reality. In other words, inside your home
is your space.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
That's you. That's your family.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
You live there. I go in there. I come in
over the blood. I come in of an animal that
you sacrificed. I sit at your table and we eat
that animal together. And there we take maybe a cup
of the covenant, a glass of wine, and we toast
and make the agreement.
Speaker 6 (07:13):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Now, when you step over that blood of that animal,
what that says is, Carl, since you've agreed to this,
if you break this covenant, then what I did to
that animal, I have a right to do to you.
I mean, it was deep. It was a deep covenant. Now,
another thing, the pagans would use it to ward off
(07:35):
the evil spirits. And they believed that by sacrificing animals...
That's why you find these groovers in all these different places,
even like Sodom and Gomorrah.
Speaker 6 (07:44):
Then they would take it and.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Put it on their doorpost, and they would say, okay, so,
you know, the demonic, the gods, they can't get to
us because, you know, we've made a sacrifice to them,
you know. Well, so now you understand something of the
threshold covenant, but watch. I'm going to tie it all together.
Go all the way back to the Garden of Eden.
(08:05):
Adam and Eve bought the big lie of Satan. Satan lied.
He called God a liar. You surely shall not die.
God knows you can be like him.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
That's all. God's just keeping you from something. He's lying.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
He's blaspheming God. Then he false prophesies and says, no,
you're not going to die. Well, then he's a murderer
too because he did bring death and he did murder them,
a slow murder, but they died. They weren't supposed to.
Speaker 6 (08:29):
Die ever, ever.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
They were just supposed to live in God's paradise. He
brought death and destruction and lies and falsehoods. And they
bought it. In the meantime, once they realized what had happened,
they ran and hid from God. We know this from
the word of God. And then it says that they
saw their nakedness. Now, what did that, that could mean literal.
(08:52):
It did mean they were literally without clothing, like we
would know it, but it also meant the nakedness of
their souls, everything. But then God chastises all of them
and tell Satan what his punishment is going to be.
Speaker 6 (09:05):
Tells Adam and Eve what there's going to be.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
But then he says, Then the Bible says that he
took animals and got their skins and made clothing, a covering.
That's where we get the word Kippur in Hebrew, Yom Kippur,
the day of atonement, the day of covering, where the
high priest goes in and takes the blood and sprinkles
it over the Ark of the Covenant, making atonement for
(09:27):
the sins. You see a foreshadowing of that in the
Garden of Eden with God doing it. And I'm convinced
that the animal he killed was a lamb. We don't
know that. The Bible doesn't say that. This is my opinion.
But Jesus is known as the lamb slain before he
breathed into Adam's nostrils, before the foundation of the world.
And so why wouldn't it be? Because the next covenant
(09:49):
you find over in Genesis, God's making covenants with Abraham,
a threshold covenant. He takes animals. Lambs are part of it.
He cuts them in half. God walks through the middle
of them. He makes a promise.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
To Abraham. Abraham makes a promise to God. I mean,
that's one of the most ancient ones.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Then when we see all the way to Passover, when
the Israelites are in Egypt for 400 years in slavery,
but through Moses, God raises up a deliverer, brings them out.
Speaker 6 (10:14):
What does he tell Moses to do?
Speaker 3 (10:16):
You tell the people, take a lamb, their best lamb,
a lamb without defect, a one-year-old male lamb. See, it's
all pointing to Jesus. And you slaughter him at your door,
at your threshold. It says, and take the blood and
put it in. And almost every translation says in the basin.
Speaker 6 (10:34):
That's all.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
It doesn't say at the foot of the door, and
it's just put it in a basin. So you're thinking,
put it in a bucket. That's what we do in America, right?
Just put all that blood in a bucket. No, the
word in Hebrew is kaf, and it's pronounced phonetically C-A-P-H, kaf.
Speaker 6 (10:49):
And that word means threshold.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
And it can be used for a cup or a basin,
but the idea when you put it on the doorstep,
the base of the door, it's a threshold. And so
he says, then you take a hyssop branch and you
put blood on both sides of the door and at
the top on the lintel. Now I'm drawing, what am
I drawing here? It's the shape of a cross with
the blood and at the bottom, I mean, both sides
(11:14):
at the top and on the bottom in the threshold.
And then he says, what does he say? Now you,
And everybody you can get, we found out Gentiles went
into these Jewish homes. I mean, even Gentiles came out
with them under the.
Speaker 6 (11:27):
Blood, watch this, of the lamb.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
And before that, God would pass over them the wrath
that he was bringing on Egypt. But watch, first you
had to be under the blood of the lamb. You
had to make a threshold covenant with God. You had
to go through that front door and you go in
and you eat that lamb with the people that are
under the blood. What does Jesus call himself? I'm the
(11:50):
good shepherd. The enemy comes in by some other means.
I come through the gate. I am the gate.
Speaker 6 (11:55):
I am the way. I am the door. I am
the door.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
And then in Revelation, he says, behold, I stand at
the door of your house and knock. If you would
open it, I would come in and eat with you.
Jesus just described the threshold covenant in Revelation, for example, okay? Now,
we've got to go to a quick break. When we
come back, I've got so much more to share, but
at least I've set the table, so to speak. Yeah,
(12:21):
I've set the table for you to come in and
eat the threshold covenant with me, but I've got some
more fascinating stuff to reveal, and then I'm going to
make it very relevant to tell you, okay, that's cool
stuff to learn, but what does this have to do
in my life in 2025?
Speaker 6 (12:34):
Hang on. All right.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
It's a relevant word with Pastor Carl Gallops, the Threshold
Covenant today.
Speaker 6 (12:41):
We'll be right back after the break.

(13:10):

to A Relevant Word with Pastor Carl Gallops. I'm Kevin King,
and today we are visiting the Threshold Covenant. And there's
so much to unwrap with what you've set up in
the first 12 minutes of this program. We've been talking
(13:30):
off air here, but in the break. There's just so much.
You could do several shows on this. I've done probably
three shows. long sermons and much... I say long, I
mean more than five minutes. I've done three sermons on
it just in the past few months as of the
time we're doing this show. Well, you've done a really
(13:50):
good job of setting us up with what it is,
and now there's just so much more to explain.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
There is more, because I want to make it relevant.
Guess what? This is called a relevant word. Makes sense.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
So what happens, if you're going to make the word relevant,
first you have to teach. You have to set it up.
You have to have people understand the concept... Then you say,
now let me show you how this extrapolates over to
your life. And we're going to do that in just
a moment. But we're still setting all this up. Now,
we left off at the break with me showing you
in the Old Testament, in the Garden of Eden, a
(14:22):
threshold covenant. And the book of Hebrews in the New Testament,
by the way, says there is no forgiveness of sin
except for the shedding of blood.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (14:30):
So we know the ultimate shedding of blood was in
Jesus Christ. Well, he's the ultimate threshold covenant. Golgotha is.
But you go all the way back to the Garden
of Eden. There was shedding of blood for the atonement,
for the covering of Adam and Eve's sin. Then you
go to Abraham making covenant with God in Genesis.
Speaker 6 (14:48):
And there.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
He takes animals, he cuts them in half, he makes
a threshold with it, if you will, and God walks
through the midst of it and makes his promise to Abraham.
There's a threshold covenant. Then you go to Passover, and
that's the clearest picture of a real threshold covenant. It's
a shame that English translations don't use the word threshold
because that's the word in Hebrew. But I'm convinced that
(15:12):
so many translators just didn't understand about the threshold covenant.
It's an ancient, ancient thing that Satan has perverted. The
pagans perverted it. But God brought it first in the
Garden of Eden. But it says, take the blood of
a lamb and put it in the basin. But that
word is kaf in Hebrew. It means the threshold.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
So we see in the shape of a cross, the
blood of that lamb was put. There's the door. Jesus says,
I'm the door.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
I'm the way. I'm the gate. I'm the good shepherd.
Come through the door.
Speaker 6 (15:41):
Then you go in. Then you eat. All right.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
And then Jesus, of course, says in John chapter 6,
he said, look, unless you eat my flesh and drink
my blood, you can have no part of me.
Speaker 6 (15:51):
People freak out over that.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Even the people that were there during that time, a
lot of his disciples left him, it said. Not the
original 12, but disciples meaning followers. And Jesus turned to
the 12, said, are you going to leave me too? Well,
but the whole thing he was talking about was threshold covenant.
Threshold covenant. So you come in and you eat.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
What do you eat? You eat the animal that you.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
at the threshold as a sign of a covenant you're making,
a promise you're making to the person that you're eating with,
and then they make that same covenant back to you.
Speaker 6 (16:23):
They were willing to come across that threshold. They did
not step on it. See, that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
In the ancient days, if you stepped on the threshold,
it was insulting. It was called trampling on the threshold. Well,
that meant you changed your mind, and you're letting the
guy know, I'm not going to do this. I've changed
my mind. I found out that property you have is
not 20 acres. It's 10 acres. You've been lying to me.
I stomp on your threshold and you turn around, walk off.
(16:49):
Doesn't matter at that point. But if you had stepped
over and ate with him and you did the cup
of the covenant together.
Speaker 6 (16:55):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
That's binding in the ancient days, binding unto death. Well,
so all of this is there before us throughout the
word of God in pictures. But then when we get
to the New Testament, we see it In Jesus Christ,
of course, he is the lamb slain. He's what Passover
was all about. He was crucified on Passover. When we
(17:17):
have the Lord's Supper, we're commemorating taking that blood and
putting it on the doorpost and the lentils and in
the threshold and eating with God, the Father's house. That
goes to John chapter 14, where.
Speaker 6 (17:33):
Jesus is getting ready to go to the cross.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
That's a threshold, by the way, because that's the picture
that the threshold of Passover made in the shape of
a cross, a blood-stained cross.
Speaker 6 (17:43):
Well, what about the door you've got to go through?
It's Jesus. He's right in the middle of it.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
He said, I'm the door. You have to come through me.
That's why we say, and we were talking about this
off air, we say, well, how do you get saved?
You've got to get under the blood. Well, that comes
from the threshold covenant. It comes from that whole thing
and all the way back to Passover in Exodus chapter 12.
They had to go through the door and under the blood.
Now we know that the door is Jesus Christ and
(18:07):
the under the blood in the shape of a cross
was his cross at Golgotha. That's how we come to
being born again now. Come to that threshold, making a
covenant with our creator through Jesus Christ. It's so deeply spiritual.
It's so deeply moving when you understand all this. So
when you come to the New Testament, you hear the
(18:28):
same language. You find it in John 14. In my
Father's house are many dwelling places. Come into my Father's house.
I go and prepare a place for you. But how
do you get into the Father's house? Jesus said, through me.
Speaker 6 (18:41):
I'm the door. And what do you do?
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Well, at the Passover that night, he said, you do
it in remembrance of me. And because I'm going to
give my blood tonight, I'm going to give my body tonight.
I'm the sacrificial lamb slain before the foundation of the world.
I'm putting my body and my blood in the threshold.
And by tomorrow, you'll understand.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
You'll see it. I will do it for you.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
And you'll see the bloodstained shape of the cross that
was over the doorpost. and the lentils of the people
of Egypt 1,500 years before tonight. Jesus could have said
something like that because that's exactly what he was doing.
He was demonstrating and becoming the ultimate threshold covenant for
all who would come. For God so loved the world
(19:22):
that he gave his only begotten son, the lamb slain
before the foundation of the world. that whosoever would come
to him would step over that threshold and come into
the Father's house and eat and drink of that covenant,
of that sacrificial lamb. Metaphorically speaking, eat and drink of that.
(19:42):
That's why Jesus said, you've got to eat my flesh
and drink my blood. He didn't mean we had to
become cannibals. He's referring to the threshold covenant. over and over.
You find it in the scriptures. Now, I want you
guys that are listening right now to hear this because
this has been so misquoted, misused, misunderstood, mistranslated. But now
(20:05):
that you know everything you know, tell me what you
think this is. Hebrews chapter 10. If we deliberately keep
on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth,
no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful
expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume
(20:25):
the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the law of
Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or
three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a
person deserves to be punished?
Speaker 6 (20:37):
Listen, folks.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Who has trampled on the Son of God under their feet,
and they've treated as an unholy thing the blood of
the covenant. What's he talking about? He's talking about the
threshold covenant, the blood that's in the threshold, and you've
got the chance to come in the Father's house, and
(21:01):
you come to a knowledge of that. It says you've
come to a knowledge. See, people take this and say, see,
that proves you can lose your salvation. It's not even
about that. And by the way, if that means you
can lose your salvation, it also says it's impossible that
you'll ever get it back. It's not what it's about.
He's saying you can come right up next to the
things of God. You can stand in God's front yard.
(21:22):
You can even knock on the door. You can look
in his windows. He can open the door and you
can see the inside. But if you don't step across
that blood, sit at that table, eat of that lamb,
make that covenant, you don't belong to him. And if
you turn and walk away, you might as well be
trampling on the blood of the covenant. Because that's the
only way you're coming into the Father's house.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
Does that make sense, Kevin? Absolutely. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
So, I mean, it just brings the scriptures alive. It
brings the understanding of what we do in our churches alive.
And some of the things we do, shame on us,
are not biblically accurate because we don't know this truth. Again,
I go all the way to Revelation chapter 3, talking
to one of the churches. Jesus said, behold, I stand
at the door and knock. And if you would open
(22:08):
the door, I would come in and eat with you.
And so he's saying, look, okay, so you've come to
my family. You claim that you've come in my house
and eaten with me, and you've made a covenant with me,
but you're so quickly turning to.
Speaker 6 (22:18):
The world and all that.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
He said, now I'm standing at the door of your house,
and I'm knocking. I will come across your threshold. I
will come in and eat with you if you will
let me. It's kind of the prodigal son thing. It's
like you've become a prodigal, but I want you back.
Speaker 6 (22:32):
You're mine.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Now you've got to let me in your house now.
I mean, it's all through the Bible, this concept of
threshold covenant. Now, here's what I want to say to
make this relevant.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
God invented that whole thing.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
Pagans and unbelievers have corrupted it, and the whole world
walks in Satan's thresholds. He sets up fake thresholds. Listen,
God's the one that developed the threshold of marriage. What
has Satan done? stopped all of the blood of that. No,
marriage can be anything you want it to be, anybody
you want it to be, anytime you want, baby.
Speaker 6 (23:08):
You don't even have to get married. You can just
live together.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
Okay, that's Satan's threshold. You see, you can take the
word threshold and substitute.
Speaker 6 (23:16):
The word choice.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Are you going to make a choice for God, for
the Lord Jesus, or are you going to make a
choice for the world and Satan? Are you going to
walk in his door or are you going to walk
in the father's door? The threshold of marriage, the threshold
of manhood, womanhood, the threshold of gender, children. The threshold
of national borders. God invented national borders. He says in
his word in the Old Testament what they're for. They're
(23:39):
for our protection. They're for the protection of nations that
are trying to do the right thing in Satan's world.
No nation's perfect. But if you have borders and you
defend them and you have rules and laws, you can
live a lot more peaceful than if you just live
in the jungles along the Amazon and come and go
as you wish and rape and murder and kill and steal.
And that's what Satan would have the whole world do
(23:59):
if he could. He spits on that threshold.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Over and over. This is what spiritual warfare is about.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
That's why Paul said in Ephesians chapter 6, he says,
our battle's not against flesh and blood. Oh yeah, you
see it in flesh and blood, but it's against unseen realms, powers,
and principalities. in other dimensions, in unseen realms.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
Well, what's that about?
Speaker 3 (24:21):
They're crossing over the threshold, and they're trampling on the
blood of Jesus, and they're trying to get you to
do it, trying to suck you into addictions and pornography
and drugs and alcohol and anger and rage and bitterness
and unforgiveness.
Speaker 6 (24:36):
That's Satan.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
So please understand, from Genesis to Revelation, the threshold covenant
is when we literally get under the blood of of
the doorway, which is Jesus stained with the cross, the
blood of the cross, and then we choose to be
a part of the Father's house. We're living in this world, yes,
(24:58):
but we are not citizens of this world. We are
strangers and aliens, the Bible says, but we are supposed
to be ambassadors for the coming kingdom of Jesus Christ.
But you first have to cross over the threshold into
the Father's house only through Jesus Christ.
Speaker 5 (25:15):
Is the Threshold Covenant a very powerful message?
