Hacia mediados del siglo XIX, México abrió las puertas a la inmigración extranjera, entonces llegaron algunos miles de españoles que establecieron desde pequeñas tiendas de abarrotes hasta industrias y bancos, sin que muchos dejaran atrás una mentalidad colonial. De ahí el calificativo de "gachupines". Platicamos con Clara E. Lida sobre estos españoles durante el Porfiriato, qué pasó con ellos tras la Revolución y cómo se comportaron ante la llegada del exilio republicano español.
