Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sarah Megan's some good money. Gosh, it feels like you're
only just here for the other book that you released
well eighteen months ago, two years ago, and now here
were with another book, baby, So congratulations, And I could
say number two. But you've actually written a lot of
books for other people and this, but this one's all you.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
This is all mine. This is my first book that's
just me.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
It's so exciting.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
But those who don't know, like you ghost wrote for
a lot of really famous people, yes, and then you
did the book with Lisa Messenger, and now this is
like you've done your university to grow exactly and they
trust you.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
I've done the hard yards and now I finally get
to put my own one out.

Speaker 5 (00:39):
I think you should have been trusted way well.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
I mean it's I knew you were writing something else
for a long time as well, the other book I
won't talk about. But then this one kind of came
out of everything you're doing with Finder and how you
became all of a sudden this huge money expert.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
Yes, and at the cost of living crisis of the
last few years, and what so many people around me
struggle And if you can't figure out your finances for yourself,
how do you even know where to start for your kids?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
So that's why I wrote this book. It's called How to.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
Raise Rich Kids, and it's designed to help parents with
their children, but it's really for anyone because it just
lays out all the nuts and bolts of investing in
a really accessible way.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
It's like when you say to chat GPT, explain this
to me as you would to a ten year old.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
And that's what the book is. Because when I was
reading it, I.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Was like, Oh, that's something I can do for me, yes,
that I don't even do for me, start the kids.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
So good for kids like well in their twenties as well,
and your twenties can get hold of this, you can really.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
Get ahead, Yes, and em said, which I loved, that
it's a really great baby shower gift. It's a great
thing to give parents of new babies. But I've got
sections in it for like the little kids under five,
five to ten, ten to fifteen, and fifteen plus, so
you can get into the nitty gritty depending on where
your kids are. But if your kids, like yours, are
in their two there's so much in there that they
can do to set themselves up down the track, and

(02:05):
a lot of it.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Is long term.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
You know, you're making small investments every week to end
up with long term wealth. But you know, I would
have loved if my parents did this and I turned
forty and they were like, by the way, here's two
hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yes, that would have mean a really good gift.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
What's an example of something that you're talking about or
do you need people to read the book?

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Well, there's lots of examples in there, but I'll share one.
If you have a child who is a teenager or
they're in their twenties and they're earning their first income
and it's under forty thousand dollars a year, they are
eligible for the government co contribution in their super. And
that means for every twenty dollars a week they put
into their super or you help them with, the government

(02:47):
will give them ten dollars, so they get free money
from the government in their super to help them with retirement.
So if they do this for five years, say from
fifteen to nineteen, you put in twenty dollars a week
for those five years with the government co contribution and
compounding over time based on average annual returns.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
By the time they.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
Are sixty, they will have an extra roughly two hundred
thousand dollars in their super Wow.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
So it means you're putting money.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, free money.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
So you're putting in five thousand dollars now and you
end up with close to I think it's one hundred
and eighty nine thousand.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
So just to get really basically, how do I do that?
Do I do it with the super fund or do
you have to apply to the government.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
No, you don't have to apply.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
That's a great question because these things seem so complicated,
but it's all automatic.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
You don't have to apply.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
You just have to set up a super fund for
your kid. And then it's a bank transfer. You can
set up an automatic bank transfer. The most important thing
is it has to come from your child.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
It can't come from your account.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
But you can gift them the money every week and
if you want, you transfer it to them and they
transfer it in.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
And then how does the government know you do? That
is the super fun talking to the government?

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Correct, Yeah, and they're always talking, they're watching everything.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
No, just that anyone listening now, Just that advice alone
is so special because you think, like, if you've got
a five year old right now, you know that that's
going to happen. And then we want our kids to
go well when far beyond when we're still alive, and
that's when it's going to benefit them. So that's just
one scary So that's a good reason to buy this book,

(04:15):
How to Raise Rich Kids.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Sarah me, how's it been going?

Speaker 1 (04:20):
By the way, So it was launched last week and
I've been following on your socials and seeing the book
pop up everywhere and it's such a bright yellow cover
if everyone's looking for it.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
But have you heard yet how it's going.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
Yes, I've actually it's been out for two weeks now, yep,
and I've just started getting some people reach.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Out and it literally makes my day.

Speaker 4 (04:38):
I've had, you know, someone reached out on LinkedIn and
he said, I picked it up at the airport and
I read it cover to cover and it's just made
everything makes so much sense to me and thank you
so much. And just getting a few dms on Instagram
and things and that kind of feedback is it literally
makes my heart like burst because my whole goal of
this and Gaily just touched on it.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
There it's like to give parents some piece of mind.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
And you don't have to have all the answers, but
if you can have a couple of things going, it
just gives you that peace of mind that I've got
something ticking away and I'm kind of looking after them
in that way.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
The book really it's called how to Raise Rich Kids,
which is so like eye catching, yes, but it should
be called like, have patience because all of your tips
are like give them this type of pocket money and
get them to do this with it and it'll win
this in the end, and do this with the super
It's basically have patience with your money, yes.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
And how to get the right habits.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
I think, especially in this day and age, our kids
are growing up where they can spend money they don't
have on things they don't need.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
You can use buy now, pay later. You can shop
you know on social.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Media at midnight on a Wednesday night and buy something
ad to cart in one click. There's so much temptation
to spend just constantly, and we didn't grow up with that.
So how do we help them add a bit of
friction and delayed gratification back into their money's.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
You know, that's part of it.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
But it's also just getting some good habits now that
compound over time and it can be really set and forget.
I think that's the biggest thing. I think money can
feel like homework and an extra thing.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Especially as parents.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
We have so many tubs open all the time, we
don't need more mental load. So this gives you, like
the framework to be able to set some things up,
even if all you can afford is five dollars a week.
That five dollars a week over time will compound and
eventually become thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars,
So just get started.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
I did exactly that, because I've been friends with you
for a long time.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
For my godson and god daughter, put up five dollars
a week in an account for them. And then my
god son just turn eighteen, and I gave him the
thumb the amounts, but I didn't give it to him
until and still on your advice, I made him open
a small share account. You have great share accounts that
you recommend as well, and I made him put it
in the share account so that my hard work wouldn't

(06:48):
go to nothing. No, but thank you, because he was
genuinely thrilled. And then when I sat down and spoke
all the lessons you've taught me, my friend he was like, yeah,
I'm doing the share account and then now we actually
he's like an eighteen year old boy. What's he got
in comment with me? But he's always like, hey, what
do you think of this share? What do you think

(07:08):
of this share? And we're beautiful talking about that. Yeah,
so share the share accounts as well that you recommend.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
I mean, there's so many, and I think one of
the best ones to start with is rais r AiZ
and that can be a micro investing platform, and that
means you can start with as little as five dollars
and it's a really great way to get started and
get comfortable and look at all the different options there.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
You can do ETFs.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
That sounds like something complicated, but the best way to
explain an ETF is if you walk into a grocery store,
A share is picking an individual item a banana or
an apple or a roast chuuk and ETF means you've
got a basket and you've put fifty of those things
in it, so it's fifty different companies in that basket.
So that can be a more diversified way to invest.
But getting into one of these platforms, having a play around,

(07:54):
seeing what the returns are like, and just getting familiar
with it all. It eventually becomes like net banking and
becomes really familiar to you, and then you can get
a bit more advanced with you investing.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
Is Raise a good one for even adults that have
no idea what you're doing.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
That is the perfect intro app in my view, because
it's they call it micro investing, So you're starting with
really small amounts and you you know, if you put
twenty dollars in there and you invest in something and
it dives, you're not that stressed, whereas if you've put
five hundred or a thousand dollars in something, the stakes
are a bit higher.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
So Rais is a great one to start with. Not sponsored.
I just love them.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
I know.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
I was about to say, you've been so good to them.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
My hope one day it comes back and they make
you their ambassador.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Hopefully if you're listening Raise.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
That's what you get from them.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Well, it's just it's a pleasure to see your success
and we're so proud of you. But this success means
so much to so many people. It's a really helpful tool.
And like I said on my social media, an excellent
baby shower gift map is they're going to crap in outfits,
they're going to grow out of soft toys will end
up in landfill and we hate them anyway because there's

(09:04):
too many around the house.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
And this will allow them to buy as many as
they want.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
This will allow them to buy you nappies when you're.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
Rold well, that depends.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
