Announcer (00:01):
It's time now to get the hell out of your life.
A weekly broadcast with realpeople, sharing real struggles,
and offering real hope.
Today's show will encourage, inspire, and empower you to face
life's challenges with a fullconfidence and renewed hope.
Now let's join our host, RonMyers, the promoter.

Ron Meyers (00:22):
Hello, my friends.
It is so good to be with youtoday.
Every week before I turn on thismicrophone, I ask the Lord one
simple question.
Jesus, what do your people needto hear today?
Not what will get the mostdownloads, or not what people
want to hear, but what they needto hear.

(00:44):
And so, friend, as I prayedabout today's episode, I kept
hearing these words in my heart.
Stop and smell the roses.
Now, I know what some of you arethinking, Ron, are we going to
talk about flowers for the next25 minutes?
No, we're going to talk aboutlife.
Because I want to ask you aquestion that I hope stays with

(01:06):
you long after this show isover.
Are you really living?
Or are you just getting throughanother day?
Think about that for a moment.
How many mornings do we jump outof bed, grab a cup of coffee,
rush off to work, answer emails, pay bills, watch the news,
scroll through our phones, fallinto bed exhausted, only to wake

(01:30):
up the next morning and do itall over again.
Weeks become months, monthsbecome years, and before we know
it, we're wondering where didthe time go?
I've spoken to thousands ofpeople over the years, and
there's one question I almostalways ask.
I say, Imagine you go to thedoctor for a routine visit.

(01:54):
He walks back into the room, sits down beside you, and
quietly says, I am so sorry, butyou only have a few months to
live.
How would your life change?
Now every single time theanswers are almost identical.
I'd spend more time with myfamily.
I'd stop worrying about thethings that don't matter.

(02:15):
I'd forgive people.
I'd tell my children I love themmore often, I'd laugh more, I'd
finally take that trip, I'dspend more time with Jesus.
Then I smile and I ask one morequestion.
If you already know whatmatters, why are you waiting?
Why do we wait for bad newsbefore we start living?

(02:40):
Why do we wait for a tragedybefore we appreciate today?
Why do we wait until someone isgone before we tell them how
much they meant to us?
My friends, tomorrow has neverbeen promised.
But today, today is sittingright in front of you.
And once today is gone, you'llnever get it back.

(03:03):
Those of you who have listenedto this podcast for a while know
something about me.
I am a people watcher.
I absolutely love watchingpeople.
Put me in an airport, coffeeshop, a restaurant, even a
grocery store, and I amperfectly content.
I watch the businessman rushingthrough the terminal.

(03:25):
I watch the young mom trying tokeep up with her little ones.
I watch the elderly couple stillholding hands after all these
years.
I watch teenagers laughing.
I watch grandparents smiling atbabies they've never met.
And I find myself wondering, what's their story?

(03:45):
What burden are they carrying?
What prayer have they beenpraying?
What miracle are they hopingfor?
Because every face has a story.
Every person matters, every lifehas value.
But here's something else I'venoticed.
Most people aren't really seeingthe world around them.

(04:07):
They're looking down, they'relooking at a phone, looking at
their schedule, looking ateverything they have to do next.
Always rushing, always hurrying, always trying to get somewhere
else.
And in the process, theycompletely miss where they
already are.
You know, my granddaughter isonly four years old, little

(04:29):
Riley.
She's four.
She's at that beautiful agewhere she's learning how to see
the world.
She's learning to think, she'slearning what to believe, she's
learning what really matters.
And it dawned on me one day, hasher gramps.
I have the incredible privilegeand responsibility of helping

(04:51):
shape the way she sees life.
So I've started teaching her alittle phrase, stop and smell
the roses.
Now because she's four, shethinks gramps is talking about
flowers.
And sometimes I am.
But what I am really trying toteach her is something much

(05:11):
bigger.
I'm trying to teach heroptimism.
I'm trying to teach hergratitude.
I'm trying to teach her tonotice God's fingerprints all
around her, to notice people, tonotice beauty, to notice
opportunities, to slow downenough to enjoy the life God has

(05:32):
given her.
Because one day she'll be older, she'll have responsibilities,
deadlines, bills, heartaches,disappointments.
And my prayer is that somewheredeep in her heart, she'll hear
her gramps saying, stop andsmell the roses.
Friend, don't rush through lifeso fast that you miss the God

(05:53):
who gave it to you.
You know, every parent, everygrandparent, every teacher,
every coach, every adult isspeaking into the life of a
child.
The question isn't whether we'reinfluencing them.
The question is, what are weteaching them?
Are we teaching them to chasesuccess or to chase Jesus?

(06:16):
Are we teaching them to worry orto trust?
Are we teaching them to complainor to be grateful?
Are we speaking fear into theirfuture?
Or are we speaking destiny andpurpose into their lives?
I want my granddaughter to growup knowing that God has an

(06:38):
incredible plan for her life.
Every sunrise is a gift, everyperson has value, every day has
purpose, and if she will keepher eyes open, she'll discover
that God is constantly placingbeautiful opportunities right in
front of her.
A few months ago, I found myselflying in an ICU bed after what

(07:03):
was supposed to be a routineprocedure.
When something like thathappens, your perspective
changes.
You don't think about a to-dolist, you don't think about how
many emails you answered, youthink about the people you love.
You think about theconversations you still want to
have.
You think about whether you'vereally lived the days God has

(07:27):
already given you.
That experience didn't make meafraid, it made me grateful.
Grateful for another sunrise, grateful for another
conversation, grateful foranother chance to tell someone
Jesus loves you.
And maybe that's why today'smessage has been burning in my

(07:48):
heart.
Because I don't want you or meto wait for bad news before we
start living the good life Jesushas already made possible.
And here's what I believe may bethe biggest reason so many
people rush through life.
They're carrying a burden thatJesus never asked them to carry.

(08:12):
And when we come back, I want toshare the truth that completely
changed my life.
The truth that made me fall inlove with Jesus, the truth that
set me free, God's amazinggrace.

Announcer (08:27):
You're listening to Get the Hell Out of Your Life
with your host, Ron Myers.
Real stories, real struggles, and real hope.

SPEAKER_05 (08:36):
One of the most somber statements ever to be
uttered is it's hopeless.
Maybe you feel it's hopeless foryou to get what you've always
wanted in your life, and thathopelessness may be leading you
down a path that dead ends intodespair.
There's no hopeless situationfrom God's standpoint, because
nothing is impossible with Him.
Turn to Jesus for forgivenessand allow him to restore hope.

Ron Meyers (09:33):
Before the break, I said something that may have
caught your attention.
I said, I think the biggestreason so many people rush
through life is because they'recarrying a burden Jesus never
asks them to carry.
I've been thinking about thatfor years.
And you know, as I watch people, and yes, I'm still a people
watcher, I don't just see tiredfaces.

(09:55):
I see people carrying invisiblebackpacks.
Some are filled with guilt, somewith shame, some with regret,
some with fear, some with thefeeling that they're just not
enough.
And maybe that's you today.
Maybe you've been trying yourvery best to be a good
Christian.
You've tried harder, you'veprayed longer, read another

(10:17):
book, volunteered more, promisedto God you would do better next
time.
Only to find yourself wondering, why do I feel so tired?
My friend, can I tell yousomething that changed my life?
Jesus didn't come to make tiredpeople try harder, he came to

(10:39):
give weary people rest.
Didn't he say, Come to me, allwho are weary and burdened, and
I will give you rest.
He didn't say I'll give youanother list or I'll give you
another rule.
He said, I will give you rest.
I have to tell you, that is whyI am so captivated by Jesus.

(11:04):
People ask me sometimes, Ron,why do you talk so much about
grace?
Because I can't get over it.
I honestly can't.
That's why I often say I'maddicted to Jesus and allergic
to sin.
Now listen carefully.
I'm not allergic to sin becauseI'm afraid God is going to swap
me every time I mess up.
I'm allergic to sin because I'vediscovered something infinitely

(11:28):
better.
When you've tasted grace, youdon't crave the chains anymore.
For years I thought Christianitywas mostly about trying harder,
you know, self-improvement.
Maybe you did too.
I thought if I worked harder,God would be happier with me.
If I prayed enough, if I readenough, if I behaved enough,
maybe I'd finally feel accepted.

(11:49):
Then one day the gospel hit me.
It hit me not on my head, but myheart.
I realized something.
Religion says do.
Jesus says done.
Religion says keep trying.
Jesus says it is finished.

(12:09):
Religion says maybe somedayyou'll measure up.
But Jesus says, you are mybeloved.
Walk with me.
Listen to these incredible wordsfrom Scripture.
The Bible says that the recordof debt that stood against us
was nailed to the cross.

(12:30):
Think about that.
Every failure, every sin, everyregret, every shameful moment,
Jesus didn't ignore it.
He paid for it completely.
The cross wasn't a down payment,it was full payment.
That's why just before he died,Jesus didn't say, I'm almost

(12:50):
finished.
He said, It is finished.
Those three words changedeverything.
Now let me tell you somethingthat absolutely thrills my
heart.
Grace isn't God lowering thestandard.
Grace is God changing the heart.

(13:11):
There's a huge difference.
Some people hear a message aboutgrace and immediately ask, so
are you saying people shouldjust go out and sin?
No.
I'm saying something much biggerthan that.
When someone truly understandshow deeply they are loved by
Jesus, something changes insidethem.

(13:32):
Not because they're afraid, butbecause they're grateful.
I don't wake up in the morningwondering how close can I get to
sin without getting in trouble.
No, I wake up thinking Jesus hasbeen so unbelievably good to me.
How can I walk closely with himtoday?

(13:54):
That's a completely differentmotivation.
I love what the apostle Paulwrote.
He said, The grace of Godteaches us how to live.
Think about that.
Grace is a teacher, religionpoints a finger, grace reaches
out its hand, religion says, tryharder.
Grace says, walk with me.

(14:16):
Religion changes behavior for awhile.
Grace changes hearts forever.
You know what I've discoveredafter interviewing hundreds of
people?
The people who experience thegreatest freedom are rarely the
ones trying to impress God.
They are the ones who areoverwhelmed that God loves them

(14:37):
anyway.
I've interviewed people who wereaddicted to drugs, people who
spent years in prison, peoplewho lost everything, people who
thought they had gone too far,and never once heard someone
say, I finally changed becausesomeone condemned me enough.
Never did I hear that.

(14:58):
But I've heard countless peoplesay, I finally changed because I
discovered Jesus loved me morethan I ever imagined.
Friends, that's grace.
And here's something that hasbecome very personal to me.
When I was lying in that ICUbed, I wasn't thinking, I hope

(15:20):
I've done enough.
I wasn't trying to rememberwhether I had checked enough
religious boxes.
I found myself resting in onesimple truth.
Jesus has already done enough.
That doesn't make me careless,it makes me grateful.
It doesn't make me want less ofJesus, it makes me want more.

(15:44):
Because perfect love doesn'tpush us away, perfect love draws
us closer.
Can I tell you something I'veobserved as a people watcher?
Many people are living likeprisoners, even though the
prison door is standing wideopen.
Imagine someone sitting in ajail cell.
The door has been unlocked, thechains have been removed, the

(16:07):
judge has signed the pardon, butthe prisoner refuses to walk out
because he doesn't believe it'sreally true.
How many Christians live likethat?
Forgiven, but still carryingshame, loved, but still trying
to earn love.
Accepted, but still striving foracceptance.
Free, but still living likeslaves.

(16:28):
My friend, Jesus didn't die toimprove your prison cell.
He came to lead you out of it.
Maybe that's why so many peoplenever stop and smell the roses.
They're too busy trying to earnwhat has already been given.
They're so focused on becomingacceptable, they miss the
incredible truth.
In Christ, they already are.

(16:49):
And when the truth settles intoyour heart, everything changes.
You begin to notice God'sgoodness.
You begin to notice peopleinstead of just problems.
You begin to noticeopportunities instead of
obstacles.
You begin to wake up eachmorning not asking, God, how can

(17:09):
I make you love me today?
But instead asking, Father, thank you for already loving me.
Show me how to love otherstoday.
That is the abundant life Jesustalked about.
Not life without problems, alife overflowing with his
presence.
So let me ask you a question.

(17:31):
What burden are you carryingtoday that Jesus already carried
to the cross?
Is it guilt, shame, fear, thepressure to be perfect, the
belief that you'll never beenough?
Friend, lay it down.
Jesus isn't asking you to carryit one more day.

(17:51):
When we come back in part three,I want to challenge you to do
something very simple, but itmight just change the rest of
your life.
We're going to talk about how totruly live, how to stop waiting,
how to stop rushing, how to stopmerely existing, and how to
start noticing the incrediblelife God has already placed in

(18:12):
front of you.
I'll be right back.

SPEAKER_04 (18:14):
You failed again.
You promised yourself you'd dobetter, but here you are, back
in the same place.
The condemnation feels crushing.
But grace is available throughthe sacrifice of Jesus.
Because his love never fails andhis grace never runs out.
Second chances aren't justavailable, they're abundant.

Announcer (18:44):
How do you get the hell out of your life?
Get on your knees and cry out tothe Lord.
How to get the hell out of yourlife?
Well, yeah, replace it withJesus.
We gotta be born again, born ofthe Spirit, and that's by
trusting Jesus Christ, turningfrom our sins and trusting
Jesus.
How do you get the hell out ofyour life?
Oh gosh.

Ron Meyers (19:02):
Jesus.
Jesus.
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.
Welcome back, my friend.
Today we've been talking aboutsomething that is so easy to
miss.
Life.
Not next week.
Not next year.
Not someday today.
You know, I think one of thegreatest tricks of the enemy
isn't always getting us to dosomething terrible.
Sometimes it's simply convincingus to wait.

(19:24):
Wait until you're happier.
Wait until you have more money.
Wait until the kids are growing.
Wait until you retire.
Wait until life settles down.
Wait until you have moreconfidence.
Wait until you know more aboutthe Bible.
Wait, wait, wait.
And while we're waiting, lifekeeps moving.

(19:45):
Children grow up, parents growolder, friendships drift,
opportunities pass by, anotherbirthday comes, another
Christmas, another summer, andone day we wake up wondering,
where did it all go?
Jesus never called people tosomeday.
He always called people totoday.
Follow me.

(20:05):
Come to me.
Go.
His invitation has always beenimmediate because Jesus knows
something we often forget.
Today is where life is lived.
Not yesterday, not tomorrow, buttoday.
I have another question for you.
When was the last time youwatched a sunrise?
Not while checking your phone, not while thinking about your

(20:27):
schedule.
Just watched it.
When was the last time youlaughed so hard your stomach
hurt?
When was the last time you toldyour spouse I love you?
Not because it was ananniversary, not because you
felt obligated, just because youwanted them to know.
When was the last time youhugged your kids or your
grandkids a little longer thanusual?

(20:50):
When was the last time you satquietly, opened God's word, and
simply enjoyed being with Jesus?
Those moments, that's life.
I think about my four-year-oldgranddaughter.
She still sees wondereverywhere.
She notices butterflies, shegets excited over puddles after

(21:10):
a rainstorm.
She laughs without worryingwho's watching.
She asks questions.
She notices things that mostadults walk right past.
And I wonder, when did we stopdoing that?
When did we become so busy thatwe stopped noticing God's
fingerprints?
Maybe Jesus wasn't exaggeratingwhen he said we should become

(21:33):
like little children.
Maybe children see things we'veforgotten how to see.
You know, I've interviewedhundreds of people over the
years.
People who have lost everything, people who have overcome
addiction, people who havebeaten impossible odds, people
who have found Jesus after yearsof running.
And if they've taught meanything, it's this nobody has

(21:57):
ever told me they wished that.
They loved less.
Nobody has ever said, I wish Iencouraged fewer people.
I wish I would have trustedJesus less.
No, they don't say that.
Almost everyone says someversion of I wish I had started
sooner.
Maybe that's you today.
Maybe you've been waiting toforgive, waiting to make that

(22:20):
phone call, waiting to startreading your Bible, waiting to
tell someone about Jesus, waiting to chase that dream God
placed in your heart, waiting tobelieve that God has already
forgiven you.
Friend, stop waiting.
Not because I'm telling you to,because Jesus already invited
you.
Here's something I've learned.

(22:40):
God rarely shows the entirestaircase, he usually shows us
the next step.
Think about Noah.
God didn't tell him everydetail.
He said, Build.
Think about Abraham.
Go.
Think about Peter.
Come.
Think about the disciples.
Follow me.
Every great story in the Biblebegan with one step of

(23:01):
obedience, not ten.
One.
So let me give you Ron's nextstep.
I don't want you to remember 20things from today's podcast.
I want you to remember one.
Live today.
Today, tell someone you lovethem.
Today, forgive someone.
Today, encourage someone.

(23:22):
Today, smile at a stranger.
Today, turn your phone off for afew minutes.
Today, sit outside and thank Godfor the breeze, the birds, the
clouds, and the sunshine.
Today, read one chapter of yourBible.
Today, spend ten quiet minuteswith Jesus.
Today, stop and smell the roses.

(23:43):
Because today cannot bereplayed.
Today cannot be refunded.
Today cannot become a do-over.
This day is a gift.
That's why they call it thepresent.
And before we close, I want toleave you with one final
thought.
Maybe the greatest miracleyou'll experience this week

(24:04):
won't be that God changes yourcircumstances.
Maybe the miracle will be thatHe changes the way you see them.
Maybe you'll notice the beautywhere you once saw
inconvenience.
Maybe you'll notice opportunitywhere you once saw interruption.
Maybe you'll notice a lonelyperson who simply needed someone

(24:28):
to smile.
Maybe you'll notice that God hasbeen speaking to you through
ordinary moments all along.
Don't wait for a funeral to tellsomeone you love them.
Don't wait until your childrenare grown to play on the floor
with them.
Don't wait until retirement toenjoy today.
Don't wait until you feel worthyto come to Jesus.

(24:49):
Because here's the beautifultruth.
You'll begin living because ofhis love.
And that's why I love Jesus somuch.
That's why I can't stop talkingabout him.

(25:12):
And that's why I often tellpeople I'm addicted to Jesus and
allergic to sin.
Not because I'm afraid, butbecause I have found something
infinitely better.
I found a Savior who knows mecompletely, loves me completely,
forgives me completely, andwalks with me every single day.

(25:32):
Friend, that's the life I wantfor you.
So this week, lift your head, look around, notice the people,
notice the beauty, notice theopportunities, notice the
fingerprints of God that are allaround you.
And when you hear that stillsmall voice, follow it because
the author of your story isstill writing.
And I have a feeling the bestchapter may be the one you're

(25:56):
about to live.
I will be back next week withanother grace-filled episode of
