Hello, my friends.
It is so good to be with youtoday.
Let me ask you a question.
Who are you?
Now most people answer that bytalking about their job, their
accomplishments, their failures,or even their past.
But what if we've been askingthe wrong question all along?

Maybe the real question isn'twho am I?
Maybe it's whose am I?
Today's guest, Benny, spentyears chasing success,
performing in a rock band andsearching for something that
always seemed just out of reach.
He knew about Jesus, but likeso many people, he hadn't
(01:03):
experienced a personalrelationship with him.
Then one invitation, oneencounter, one decision changed
everything.
As you listen today, I want toencourage you to do more than
hear Benny's story.
Listen for how God may bespeaking to your own heart.
Because the same Jesus whotransformed Benny's life is

Here's my conversation withBenny.
Benny Dichara (01:33):
So my dad, God bless him, and he was he grew up
Roman Catholic because we'revery Sicilian, right?
My last name's Dicchiata inItalian.
So that's it.
And so he married my mother,who's not.
And so the Roman CatholicChurch back in the day, they
said, Well, if you marry her,we're gonna excommunicate you.
You do not marry out of thereligion.
(01:55):
So I was like, I don't getthat, Ron.
But so he's like, Well, enoughof this.
So my mom was Lutheran, so mydad went through adult catechism
and they became Lutheran.
So I was raised Lutheran inchurch every single Sunday with
my parents, early service, like6:37, kind of just crazy.
And so if I would have died onMonday, I cannot sit in front of
(02:19):
you and tell you I'd be inheaven.
And this is being in churchevery single Sunday.
I knew who Jesus was, but I didnot know Jesus.
Yeah, if that makes sense.
That's how I was.
Ron Meyers (02:29):
Same way.
People ask me, what was thechange in your life?
I went from a knowledge to arelationship.
Absolutely.
It really is different.
It's that simple.
There's always a point, Benny,that I talk to people that
something drove them to ask whothis Jesus was, whether it was
drugs or alcohol or abuse.
Right.
(02:50):
What drove you to find out whothis Jesus was?
All right.
Benny Dichara (02:53):
Well, here's the thing.
It just this will be real.
This will be real.
So I got married at an earlyage.
Got her confirmed because Ithought that was important.
We get married.
You cannot change someone.
I said it.
You cannot change someone.
Only God can do that.
And so we were married for 10and a half years.
(03:15):
I had two beautiful childrenout of it.
It was the craziestrelationship, especially toward
the end.
And it it got ugly and mean.
And that it's just, it was itwas horrible.
And so I'm trying to defend thekids and hide them from things.
And you know there's an issuewhen that happens.
Anyway, so we split, and itbecame everything that you hear
(03:36):
the antithesis of split.
You know, it's all about themoney and this, that, and the
other, and the kids, and it's apower thing.
And I don't know if any of yourlisteners are going through
that, but it is a real thing,right?
And the devil is in completecontrol of that.
His number one deal isdivision.
Ron Meyers (03:53):
Yeah.
Benny Dichara (03:54):
Divide and conquer.
Divide and conquer.
And then for me, I'm in churchevery Sunday with my family and
children.
And I still don't have enoughto dial it up to God and just
say, Jesus, can you please stepin us and fix it?
And so we wind up splittingback at that time when I had
hair.
I had a lot of it.
And we did the, we did the rocktour circuit.
(04:16):
I had a secular rock band.
It was all original stuff.
And we played like the coastand New Orleans all over the
place and stuff, and saw thingsI never want my kids to see.
And all of these things, andthen some things went on with
the band and in thisrelationship, it all kind of
morphed together.
And I was like, this is this ishorrible.
So so after we split, because Iwas stationed in Memphis, I
(04:37):
moved back to Memphis and it wassome distance away.
In 1992, I moved back toLouisiana and I moved to Baton
Rouge.
Once I was there, just did awhole bunch of management type
jobs, everything.
I got invited one day to thisbusiness function that were run
by very serious Christianpeople.
Not Christian in the sense ofthe word Christian, but they had
(04:59):
the Holy Spirit fire in them.
Like I've never seen that inbusiness people.
And they started quoting thingsthat I'd never heard before.
And I've been in church everySunday, right?
As a matter of fact, if itwasn't in Matthew, Mark, Luke,
and John, I didn't know aboutit, basically.
So we're we're we're talking atthis thing, and they do a
little altar call at the endbecause they like in business,
the only way you succeed inbusiness is if you succeed in
(05:23):
him.
I mean, that's one of thethings, right?
And so, and I'm like, I don't,so I go down and I get a little,
I get a little paperback Biblefrom him because I didn't have
one in the house.
And God just compelled me to godown and get one.
And I didn't, I did not getsaved.
I did not do an altar callthing.
I'm wicked at the Bible andwent back and I sat down.
So, but at that point, youcannot overlook the power that
(05:48):
God has in his timing.
And that business meeting was apreordained.
Ron Meyers (05:54):
So it planted a seed.
Benny Dichara (05:55):
Oh, like not a mustard seed.
This thing was like an avocadoseed, right?
And so it's just like ourrelationship and us meeting,
that's a preordained thing eonsago.
And if you know, you know.
And so, so I had dispressed.
Well, it was this, I was afloor manager for a Toyota
dealership at the time.
And this lady, Miss Linda, loveme some Miss Linda.
(06:15):
And so I sold her a car, herhusband a truck, her daughter a
car.
So I was familiar, I knew theirfamily.
They knew I did music.
She says, Hey, don't you have arock band?
Didn't you have a rock band?
And I said, I did.
Not anymore, but I did.
And she says, You should cometo our church because you would
love the music.
So I said, Well, what are you?
And she's like, What do youmean?
I'm like, Well, like I grew upLutheran.
So what are you?
(06:35):
Methodists, Baptist, what areyou?
She goes, Uh-uh, we're juststraight out the Bible,
Bible-based church.
And I'm thinking, I've heardabout you people.
But I'm like, no.
So I'm telling you, in allhonesty, I know your listeners,
I don't know if anybody's gonnarelate to, I lied to her for
three months because she wouldcall me every Monday.
I didn't see you in church.
(06:55):
And I said, I was busy.
And back then I was justwatching the Saints lose because
I thought they did.
So all of that to be said, thismeeting I went to, this
business meeting I went to waslike a week toward the end of
these three months where I wasfibbing to her.
And she calls me and she says,Listen, I didn't see you in
church again.
I'm gonna come and get you thisSunday.
Like I'm coming to get you.
(07:17):
And I said, No, ma'am, you'renot.
And she says, Why?
I said, I'm gonna meet youthere.
And she goes, Seriously?
Because I know you've beenlying to me for and I said, Yes,
Miss Linda, I've been lying toyou.
I said, But I heard some thingsand I need to know more.
So I'm coming.
So I walk up to the church, andyou know what she did, Ron?
Big old smile on her face.
She gives me a big old hug.
Her husband, Max, gives me abig old hug.
(07:39):
Come on in.
The music was incredible.
And then they do an altar call.
So I go down for it becausejust the Holy Spirit is working
on me like crazy at this moment.
And I broke.
I mean, broke.
And I went to step back fromthe altar and I couldn't move.
And I looked behind me, and itwas a mountain of days where I
(07:59):
was going, whoo, got past thatone.
Ron Meyers (08:02):
Well, I want to take a minute and you can finish
your story.
But I've always said, Benny,there's people out there
listening that they can relateand connect to everything you
just said.
And I know the same thinghappened to me.
There was something that Icould feel tangible inside of
me.
Absolutely.
And there really is.
It wasn't just reciting aprayer.
(08:22):
Nope.
I felt God.
And I think that's importantbecause you and I, you're out in
the public all the time withyour rock group, Christian Rock,
and I'm on the radio andpodcast.
But this stuff that we talkabout about Jesus is because it
really transformed our lives.
It changed us, it changed thetrajectory of where we're going
(08:45):
in life.
And I think if I wouldn't havehad that encounter I had in
Atlanta, or if you didn't havethat encounter that you had,
your life would be totallydifferent to this day.
Benny Dichara (08:58):
Yeah, speak that.
And that's all, hey, Miss Lindahad one job to get you into
church and get Jesus in you.
Just not even to get me, justto invite me.
To invite.
That's the good word.
Right.
And so, and so and so I'm down,and I broke in that mountain of
days.
I couldn't even move.
And so all of a sudden, I criedlike I've never cried before.
Amen.
And it wasn't pain, it was agood cry.
(09:21):
It was release.
It was release of all the sinthat had piled up in my life,
right?
And it was release from thereally horrible divorce thing.
It was a complete really I wasdating somebody.
I went the next day, told herwhat happened to me, and we
split.
And she's go, she's like, Whatare you doing?
And I'm like, This isn't cool,and I'm done.
(09:42):
I'm married.
I'm married to Jesus.
Well, you know what she toldme?
She said, she says, I've neverbeen dropped for Jesus before.
And I'm like, well, if you'regonna lose to somebody, that's
the one to lose to.
Ron Meyers (09:52):
But you said the word release.
I think that is so real becauseI tell people it's like I lost
a hundred pounds of this deadweight of baggage, of fear, of
guilt, of shame, of sin.
And I was free to become whoChrist created me to be.
100%.
Benny Dichara (10:10):
Yeah, I know we're gonna get into this in a
little bit, but this comingOctober makes eight years that
I've had a traumatic braininjury.
So, but yet we're two recordsin since you and I shouldn't
even be having this discussionbecause they weren't sure if I
was gonna come out of that.
But God had a plan.
He had a plan.
Had a plan.
So, so the new record is YahwehNisi.
(10:33):
So Mikey Howard, seven timedown, love journey music, he's
our producer, and he and Ico-wrote on the radio single
from Yahweh Nisi, which is JesusCan Heal the World.
And do you need a title?
Do you need anything but thetitle, I should say, to get it?
Jesus can heal the world.
I'm going through addiction ofsome sort, and it doesn't matter
(10:55):
what kind, Jesus can heal that.
I've gone through a divorce,all that kind of stuff with all
these crazy family issues.
Jesus can heal that.
I've gone through who I think Iam, Jesus can heal that.
For me, I had a lot of thingsthat Jesus needed to heal
because of who I thought I was.
I was so hung up, Ron, on who Ithought I was.
I had a band that was me.
(11:16):
I'm the front man for thatband, for this band, that was
me.
Ron Meyers (11:19):
So who did you think you were?
Some big shot rock and rollband star?
I'm not saying that, but youknow what it is.
Benny Dichara (11:25):
You know what it is.
It's like what I thought wasthese, I'm creating these
opportunities, which I had noidea at the time in my BC life
that God was lining things up orwhatever, right?
I mean, so when I have mysecular band, you'll find this
interesting.
So my keyboard, because I wouldbounce back and forth off of
keys, and I had a ramp off thefront that my my brother-in-law
was my guitar player, and hewould run up the ramp with high
(11:46):
five.
It's a whole show thing.
It's nonsense.
But we would do that, and onthe ramp portion was a star
painted, and I had like a crosspainted in the star with the
tail of the cross coming at thebottom.
And I had people, I am notsaved at this point, Ron.
And I've got people at showsgoing, what is your design?
What's that logo thing?
(12:06):
I was like, hey, a star is whatI want to be.
The cross is who's gonna get methere?
I'm not saved, and God isspeaking through my face, and I
didn't get it because you know,we were pretty well known and
all over everybody's blowingsmoke up your pant leg, and
y'all are so fantastic, and ohmy god.
Oh, the it and all those thingsthat we get wrapped up in.
Ron Meyers (12:26):
So you were a star in your own mind.
Benny Dichara (12:28):
Hello, and guess what?
And guess what?
And for most people, aren't weall?
Yeah, for that's so you knowwhat it changed for me?
I had to realize it wasn'tabout who I was, but it was
about whose I was.
Yeah.
Ron Meyers (12:42):
Amen.
And and you know, and sinceI've met you years ago and I run
into you at some conventions,you're a happy guy, aren't you?
Life is good.
Benny Dichara (12:52):
Yeah, I don't care.
Yeah, if that makes sense.
You know, because here's thething when when the Holy Spirit,
like you said, like when I gotsaved, and you just you notice
the difference, all that weightis off of you.
When when boy, I hope some ofyou listeners can relate to
this.
When we walk in thepreordained, planned purposes of
Christ, you really don't careabout much because you know it's
(13:15):
handled.
God is the answer.
Jesus is the answer.
Point people to him.
That's all.
I mean, because I look at mypastor or whatever, but I mean,
we're on stage and I'm talkingin between songs and I'm telling
them this is how this happened,this is how that happened.
And if Jesus can do it for me,guess what?
He can do it.
Ron Meyers (13:34):
Well, you know, I call myself the promoter.
The most often asked questionto me is what do you promote?
Jesus.
I promote Jesus, and that opensup a dialogue.
But right now, Benny, there arepeople out there that maybe
they have a band, maybe they'redoing something and they are
going to be a star in their ownmind, but yet they feel
(13:55):
something missing.
And through your wisdom andthrough your experience, you can
give them a little Bennyencouragement, a little pep
talk.
What would you tell thatperson?
Like a Bennyism.
Benny Dichara (14:07):
Here's what I've learned.
Let me say it this way (14:08):
this is what I learned.
I think the name of Jesus is aJ, which is shaped like a hook.
And once you get that hook inyou, you don't do anything the
same.
The way you perform is not thesame.
The way you talk to people isnot the same because you're
pointing them to them.
(14:29):
For me, it's a stage,musicians, lights, sound, all
that all that stuff is groovyand it's fine.
And guess what?
It's fun.
It's a party for Jesus from thestage, right?
But the but the point is it's aparty for Jesus.
Because if you don't feel thelove of Jesus, come across the
footlights when we perform.
If you don't feel the love ofJesus in our discussion today,
(14:50):
then I need to quit and dosomething different.
Ron Meyers (14:52):
Well, let me ask you, Benny.
You and I both agree that Jesusis the healer.
Yes.
Jesus is the answer.
Yes.
So what have we done wrong?
What have the churches or thepeople done wrong?
There are churches on everycorner, Christian radio
stations, television stations,and people are hurting.
(15:14):
And you talk to them aboutJesus, and it's like, I don't
want to hear that.
Right.
But you and I know Jesus is theanswer, in your opinion.
What have we done wrong?
Benny Dichara (15:26):
Yeah, this is coming from me.
So I've discovered the center,and you may have heard this
before, right?
The center of the word pride isthe letter I.
I don't feel like doing that.
I don't think I can talk topeople about Jesus.
I don't think this is workingout the way that I I had a dream
and it's not working out theway that I can.
(15:46):
We're talking right now aboutthis record, this new record,
and it's on radio across thecountry.
We're doing amazing things.
We're booking shows andeverything.
They don't want to talk to meabout 1997 when I founded the
band.
I just said 1997.
People have asked me over allthat time, you ever thought
about quitting?
And I'm like, as surely as Iheard the Lord say, I've chosen
(16:09):
you for this, do this.
I've never heard him clearlycome back to me and say, I'm so
sorry, I made a mistake.
It's not happened.
He's never told me, stop.
It's a mistake.
Never, ever, ever.
Even the rocks will cry out,right?
Well, call me a rock star inthat way because I'm crying out
that people need to know him,that he can fix everything that
(16:30):
they're going through.
For me, it's a stage.
For you, it's your podcastradio.
For a doctor, it could be asurgical suite or a hospital.
For a boss, it could be abusiness setting or a set of
office.
Everybody has a stage.
It's our gift from God.
What we do at that stage is ourgift back to Him.
Ron Meyers (16:52):
And I would encourage someone out there
right now, if this has evenintrigued you, maybe you're
thinking, maybe I should giveJesus a try.
When nothing else is working inyour life, your friends leave,
you get terminated, the wifeleaves, the bank account is low,
you get a bad doctor's report.
I would say it's time to tryJesus.
(17:15):
Because you know what?
If it doesn't work for you, youcan go back to your old life.
Right.
But I've never found anybodyout of all the hundreds and
hundreds of people I've talkedto.
I've never met anybody thatwent back to their old life.
You know what they say, Benny?
They say, I can't believe Iwaited so long.
But then my response is butsometimes we have to go through
(17:39):
a lot of hell in our life beforewe cry out to Jesus to take the
hell out of our life.
That's right.
It's his timing.
And now look at your knowledgethat you have.
You were in a secular rockband.
You got to learn a lot of thebusiness practices and how to
deal with people because Godknew one day you're going to
proclaim his name of his sonJesus with a rock band.
(18:02):
So you got to learn a lot ofthe world tricks, and and now
you're up there and you are asuh what do they say, as wise as
a serpent and harmless as adove.
And well, listen, we're almostout of time.
How do people find out aboutyou in your music?
Benny Dichara (18:20):
So the name of our band is Empowered.
And what it stands for, I thinkit's important for people to
know, is God's empowered us withthe gift of music so that we
can empower others with hismessage, so you're ready for it,
so that they can then go andempower others.

That's all it's about, right?

And they're going through stuff, and stuff is all
inclusive, it can be anything.
But God, but you, Lord.
And if they would just pressinto you, you've got the
answers.
Jesus can heal the world.
And it's a fact.
He gave his life to heal theworld.
And God gave his only son toheal the world.

And just, Father God, if anyoneis going through a struggle, I
just pray, Father, just rightnow that the Holy Spirit just
come on them, that the HolySpirit touch them.
The way Ron and I experiencedwhen we were saved, Father, just
that that weight of whatthey're going through is lifted
from their shoulders, Lord God,and that their life be forever
and eternally changed.
(20:54):
We just we believe in that.

Wow, what an encouraging conversation.
One statement Benny made hasstayed with me.
It wasn't about who I was, itwas about whose I was.
Think about that.
So many people spend theirlives trying to become somebody,
a better career, a biggerpaycheck, more followers, more
(21:26):
success, and more approval.
But none of those things cangive you the peace your heart is
searching for.
Only Jesus can.
The moment we discover that ouridentity isn't found in what we
do, but in who we belong to,everything begins to change.
(21:46):
Fear loses its grip, shamebegins to fade, hope comes
alive, purpose becomes clearer,and suddenly you're no longer
trying to prove yourself.
Simply learning to trust theone who created you.
That's the freedom Jesus offersevery one of us.
(22:08):

Walk in his grace, live in hisfreedom, share his love, and
wherever God has placed you,that's your stage.
Use it to point people toJesus.

It is so good to be with youtoday.
Let me ask you a question.
Who are you?
Now most people answer that bytalking about their job, their
accomplishments, their failures,or even their past.
But what if we've been askingthe wrong question all along?

Maybe the real question isn'twho am I?
Maybe it's whose am I?
Today's guest, Benny, spentyears chasing success,
performing in a rock band andsearching for something that
always seemed just out of reach.
He knew about Jesus, but likeso many people, he hadn't
(01:03):
experienced a personalrelationship with him.
Then one invitation, oneencounter, one decision changed
everything.
As you listen today, I want toencourage you to do more than
hear Benny's story.
Listen for how God may bespeaking to your own heart.
Because the same Jesus whotransformed Benny's life is
(01:26):
still transforming lives today,including yours.
Here's my conversation withBenny.
Benny Dichara (01:33):
So my dad, God bless him, and he was he grew up
Roman Catholic because we'revery Sicilian, right?
My last name's Dicchiata inItalian.
So that's it.
And so he married my mother,who's not.
And so the Roman CatholicChurch back in the day, they
said, Well, if you marry her,we're gonna excommunicate you.
You do not marry out of thereligion.
(01:55):
So I was like, I don't getthat, Ron.
But so he's like, Well, enoughof this.
So my mom was Lutheran, so mydad went through adult catechism
and they became Lutheran.
So I was raised Lutheran inchurch every single Sunday with
my parents, early service, like6:37, kind of just crazy.
And so if I would have died onMonday, I cannot sit in front of
(02:19):
you and tell you I'd be inheaven.
And this is being in churchevery single Sunday.
I knew who Jesus was, but I didnot know Jesus.
Yeah, if that makes sense.
That's how I was.
Ron Meyers (02:29):
Same way.
People ask me, what was thechange in your life?
I went from a knowledge to arelationship.
Absolutely.
It really is different.
It's that simple.
There's always a point, Benny,that I talk to people that
something drove them to ask whothis Jesus was, whether it was
drugs or alcohol or abuse.
Right.
(02:50):
What drove you to find out whothis Jesus was?
All right.
Benny Dichara (02:53):
Well, here's the thing.
It just this will be real.
This will be real.
So I got married at an earlyage.
Got her confirmed because Ithought that was important.
We get married.
You cannot change someone.
I said it.
You cannot change someone.
Only God can do that.
And so we were married for 10and a half years.
(03:15):
I had two beautiful childrenout of it.
It was the craziestrelationship, especially toward
the end.
And it it got ugly and mean.
And that it's just, it was itwas horrible.
And so I'm trying to defend thekids and hide them from things.
And you know there's an issuewhen that happens.
Anyway, so we split, and itbecame everything that you hear
(03:36):
the antithesis of split.
You know, it's all about themoney and this, that, and the
other, and the kids, and it's apower thing.
And I don't know if any of yourlisteners are going through
that, but it is a real thing,right?
And the devil is in completecontrol of that.
His number one deal isdivision.
Ron Meyers (03:53):
Yeah.
Benny Dichara (03:54):
Divide and conquer.
Divide and conquer.
And then for me, I'm in churchevery Sunday with my family and
children.
And I still don't have enoughto dial it up to God and just
say, Jesus, can you please stepin us and fix it?
And so we wind up splittingback at that time when I had
hair.
I had a lot of it.
And we did the, we did the rocktour circuit.
(04:16):
I had a secular rock band.
It was all original stuff.
And we played like the coastand New Orleans all over the
place and stuff, and saw thingsI never want my kids to see.
And all of these things, andthen some things went on with
the band and in thisrelationship, it all kind of
morphed together.
And I was like, this is this ishorrible.
So so after we split, because Iwas stationed in Memphis, I
(04:37):
moved back to Memphis and it wassome distance away.
In 1992, I moved back toLouisiana and I moved to Baton
Rouge.
Once I was there, just did awhole bunch of management type
jobs, everything.
I got invited one day to thisbusiness function that were run
by very serious Christianpeople.
Not Christian in the sense ofthe word Christian, but they had
(04:59):
the Holy Spirit fire in them.
Like I've never seen that inbusiness people.
And they started quoting thingsthat I'd never heard before.
And I've been in church everySunday, right?
As a matter of fact, if itwasn't in Matthew, Mark, Luke,
and John, I didn't know aboutit, basically.
So we're we're we're talking atthis thing, and they do a
little altar call at the endbecause they like in business,
the only way you succeed inbusiness is if you succeed in
(05:23):
him.
I mean, that's one of thethings, right?
And so, and I'm like, I don't,so I go down and I get a little,
I get a little paperback Biblefrom him because I didn't have
one in the house.
And God just compelled me to godown and get one.
And I didn't, I did not getsaved.
I did not do an altar callthing.
I'm wicked at the Bible andwent back and I sat down.
So, but at that point, youcannot overlook the power that
(05:48):
God has in his timing.
And that business meeting was apreordained.
Ron Meyers (05:54):
So it planted a seed.
Benny Dichara (05:55):
Oh, like not a mustard seed.
This thing was like an avocadoseed, right?
And so it's just like ourrelationship and us meeting,
that's a preordained thing eonsago.
And if you know, you know.
And so, so I had dispressed.
Well, it was this, I was afloor manager for a Toyota
dealership at the time.
And this lady, Miss Linda, loveme some Miss Linda.
(06:15):
And so I sold her a car, herhusband a truck, her daughter a
car.
So I was familiar, I knew theirfamily.
They knew I did music.
She says, Hey, don't you have arock band?
Didn't you have a rock band?
And I said, I did.
Not anymore, but I did.
And she says, You should cometo our church because you would
love the music.
So I said, Well, what are you?
And she's like, What do youmean?
I'm like, Well, like I grew upLutheran.
So what are you?
(06:35):
Methodists, Baptist, what areyou?
She goes, Uh-uh, we're juststraight out the Bible,
Bible-based church.
And I'm thinking, I've heardabout you people.
But I'm like, no.
So I'm telling you, in allhonesty, I know your listeners,
I don't know if anybody's gonnarelate to, I lied to her for
three months because she wouldcall me every Monday.
I didn't see you in church.
(06:55):
And I said, I was busy.
And back then I was justwatching the Saints lose because
I thought they did.
So all of that to be said, thismeeting I went to, this
business meeting I went to waslike a week toward the end of
these three months where I wasfibbing to her.
And she calls me and she says,Listen, I didn't see you in
church again.
I'm gonna come and get you thisSunday.
Like I'm coming to get you.
(07:17):
And I said, No, ma'am, you'renot.
And she says, Why?
I said, I'm gonna meet youthere.
And she goes, Seriously?
Because I know you've beenlying to me for and I said, Yes,
Miss Linda, I've been lying toyou.
I said, But I heard some thingsand I need to know more.
So I'm coming.
So I walk up to the church, andyou know what she did, Ron?
Big old smile on her face.
She gives me a big old hug.
Her husband, Max, gives me abig old hug.
(07:39):
Come on in.
The music was incredible.
And then they do an altar call.
So I go down for it becausejust the Holy Spirit is working
on me like crazy at this moment.
And I broke.
I mean, broke.
And I went to step back fromthe altar and I couldn't move.
And I looked behind me, and itwas a mountain of days where I
(07:59):
was going, whoo, got past thatone.
Ron Meyers (08:02):
Well, I want to take a minute and you can finish
your story.
But I've always said, Benny,there's people out there
listening that they can relateand connect to everything you
just said.
And I know the same thinghappened to me.
There was something that Icould feel tangible inside of
me.
Absolutely.
And there really is.
It wasn't just reciting aprayer.
(08:22):
Nope.
I felt God.
And I think that's importantbecause you and I, you're out in
the public all the time withyour rock group, Christian Rock,
and I'm on the radio andpodcast.
But this stuff that we talkabout about Jesus is because it
really transformed our lives.
It changed us, it changed thetrajectory of where we're going
(08:45):
in life.
And I think if I wouldn't havehad that encounter I had in
Atlanta, or if you didn't havethat encounter that you had,
your life would be totallydifferent to this day.
Benny Dichara (08:58):
Yeah, speak that.
And that's all, hey, Miss Lindahad one job to get you into
church and get Jesus in you.
Just not even to get me, justto invite me.
To invite.
That's the good word.
Right.
And so, and so and so I'm down,and I broke in that mountain of
days.
I couldn't even move.
And so all of a sudden, I criedlike I've never cried before.
Amen.
And it wasn't pain, it was agood cry.
(09:21):
It was release.
It was release of all the sinthat had piled up in my life,
right?
And it was release from thereally horrible divorce thing.
It was a complete really I wasdating somebody.
I went the next day, told herwhat happened to me, and we
split.
And she's go, she's like, Whatare you doing?
And I'm like, This isn't cool,and I'm done.
(09:42):
I'm married.
I'm married to Jesus.
Well, you know what she toldme?
She said, she says, I've neverbeen dropped for Jesus before.
And I'm like, well, if you'regonna lose to somebody, that's
the one to lose to.
Ron Meyers (09:52):
But you said the word release.
I think that is so real becauseI tell people it's like I lost
a hundred pounds of this deadweight of baggage, of fear, of
guilt, of shame, of sin.
And I was free to become whoChrist created me to be.
100%.
Benny Dichara (10:10):
Yeah, I know we're gonna get into this in a
little bit, but this comingOctober makes eight years that
I've had a traumatic braininjury.
So, but yet we're two recordsin since you and I shouldn't
even be having this discussionbecause they weren't sure if I
was gonna come out of that.
But God had a plan.
He had a plan.
Had a plan.
So, so the new record is YahwehNisi.
(10:33):
So Mikey Howard, seven timedown, love journey music, he's
our producer, and he and Ico-wrote on the radio single
from Yahweh Nisi, which is JesusCan Heal the World.
And do you need a title?
Do you need anything but thetitle, I should say, to get it?
Jesus can heal the world.
I'm going through addiction ofsome sort, and it doesn't matter
(10:55):
what kind, Jesus can heal that.
I've gone through a divorce,all that kind of stuff with all
these crazy family issues.
Jesus can heal that.
I've gone through who I think Iam, Jesus can heal that.
For me, I had a lot of thingsthat Jesus needed to heal
because of who I thought I was.
I was so hung up, Ron, on who Ithought I was.
I had a band that was me.
(11:16):
I'm the front man for thatband, for this band, that was
me.
Ron Meyers (11:19):
So who did you think you were?
Some big shot rock and rollband star?
I'm not saying that, but youknow what it is.
Benny Dichara (11:25):
You know what it is.
It's like what I thought wasthese, I'm creating these
opportunities, which I had noidea at the time in my BC life
that God was lining things up orwhatever, right?
I mean, so when I have mysecular band, you'll find this
interesting.
So my keyboard, because I wouldbounce back and forth off of
keys, and I had a ramp off thefront that my my brother-in-law
was my guitar player, and hewould run up the ramp with high
(11:46):
five.
It's a whole show thing.
It's nonsense.
But we would do that, and onthe ramp portion was a star
painted, and I had like a crosspainted in the star with the
tail of the cross coming at thebottom.
And I had people, I am notsaved at this point, Ron.
And I've got people at showsgoing, what is your design?
What's that logo thing?
(12:06):
I was like, hey, a star is whatI want to be.
The cross is who's gonna get methere?
I'm not saved, and God isspeaking through my face, and I
didn't get it because you know,we were pretty well known and
all over everybody's blowingsmoke up your pant leg, and
y'all are so fantastic, and ohmy god.
Oh, the it and all those thingsthat we get wrapped up in.
Ron Meyers (12:26):
So you were a star in your own mind.
Benny Dichara (12:28):
Hello, and guess what?
And guess what?
And for most people, aren't weall?
Yeah, for that's so you knowwhat it changed for me?
I had to realize it wasn'tabout who I was, but it was
about whose I was.
Yeah.
Ron Meyers (12:42):
Amen.
And and you know, and sinceI've met you years ago and I run
into you at some conventions,you're a happy guy, aren't you?
Life is good.
Benny Dichara (12:52):
Yeah, I don't care.
Yeah, if that makes sense.
You know, because here's thething when when the Holy Spirit,
like you said, like when I gotsaved, and you just you notice
the difference, all that weightis off of you.
When when boy, I hope some ofyou listeners can relate to
this.
When we walk in thepreordained, planned purposes of
Christ, you really don't careabout much because you know it's
(13:15):
handled.
God is the answer.
Jesus is the answer.
Point people to him.
That's all.
I mean, because I look at mypastor or whatever, but I mean,
we're on stage and I'm talkingin between songs and I'm telling
them this is how this happened,this is how that happened.
And if Jesus can do it for me,guess what?
He can do it.
Ron Meyers (13:34):
Well, you know, I call myself the promoter.
The most often asked questionto me is what do you promote?
Jesus.
I promote Jesus, and that opensup a dialogue.
But right now, Benny, there arepeople out there that maybe
they have a band, maybe they'redoing something and they are
going to be a star in their ownmind, but yet they feel
(13:55):
something missing.
And through your wisdom andthrough your experience, you can
give them a little Bennyencouragement, a little pep
talk.
What would you tell thatperson?
Like a Bennyism.
Benny Dichara (14:07):
Here's what I've learned.
Let me say it this way (14:08):
this is what I learned.
I think the name of Jesus is aJ, which is shaped like a hook.
And once you get that hook inyou, you don't do anything the
same.
The way you perform is not thesame.
The way you talk to people isnot the same because you're
pointing them to them.
(14:29):
For me, it's a stage,musicians, lights, sound, all
that all that stuff is groovyand it's fine.
And guess what?
It's fun.
It's a party for Jesus from thestage, right?
But the but the point is it's aparty for Jesus.
Because if you don't feel thelove of Jesus, come across the
footlights when we perform.
If you don't feel the love ofJesus in our discussion today,
(14:50):
then I need to quit and dosomething different.
Ron Meyers (14:52):
Well, let me ask you, Benny.
You and I both agree that Jesusis the healer.
Yes.
Jesus is the answer.
Yes.
So what have we done wrong?
What have the churches or thepeople done wrong?
There are churches on everycorner, Christian radio
stations, television stations,and people are hurting.
(15:14):
And you talk to them aboutJesus, and it's like, I don't
want to hear that.
Right.
But you and I know Jesus is theanswer, in your opinion.
What have we done wrong?
Benny Dichara (15:26):
Yeah, this is coming from me.
So I've discovered the center,and you may have heard this
before, right?
The center of the word pride isthe letter I.
I don't feel like doing that.
I don't think I can talk topeople about Jesus.
I don't think this is workingout the way that I I had a dream
and it's not working out theway that I can.
(15:46):
We're talking right now aboutthis record, this new record,
and it's on radio across thecountry.
We're doing amazing things.
We're booking shows andeverything.
They don't want to talk to meabout 1997 when I founded the
band.
I just said 1997.
People have asked me over allthat time, you ever thought
about quitting?
And I'm like, as surely as Iheard the Lord say, I've chosen
(16:09):
you for this, do this.
I've never heard him clearlycome back to me and say, I'm so
sorry, I made a mistake.
It's not happened.
He's never told me, stop.
It's a mistake.
Never, ever, ever.
Even the rocks will cry out,right?
Well, call me a rock star inthat way because I'm crying out
that people need to know him,that he can fix everything that
(16:30):
they're going through.
For me, it's a stage.
For you, it's your podcastradio.
For a doctor, it could be asurgical suite or a hospital.
For a boss, it could be abusiness setting or a set of
office.
Everybody has a stage.
It's our gift from God.
What we do at that stage is ourgift back to Him.
Ron Meyers (16:52):
And I would encourage someone out there
right now, if this has evenintrigued you, maybe you're
thinking, maybe I should giveJesus a try.
When nothing else is working inyour life, your friends leave,
you get terminated, the wifeleaves, the bank account is low,
you get a bad doctor's report.
I would say it's time to tryJesus.
(17:15):
Because you know what?
If it doesn't work for you, youcan go back to your old life.
Right.
But I've never found anybodyout of all the hundreds and
hundreds of people I've talkedto.
I've never met anybody thatwent back to their old life.
You know what they say, Benny?
They say, I can't believe Iwaited so long.
But then my response is butsometimes we have to go through
(17:39):
a lot of hell in our life beforewe cry out to Jesus to take the
hell out of our life.
That's right.
It's his timing.
And now look at your knowledgethat you have.
You were in a secular rockband.
You got to learn a lot of thebusiness practices and how to
deal with people because Godknew one day you're going to
proclaim his name of his sonJesus with a rock band.
(18:02):
So you got to learn a lot ofthe world tricks, and and now
you're up there and you are asuh what do they say, as wise as
a serpent and harmless as adove.
And well, listen, we're almostout of time.
How do people find out aboutyou in your music?
Benny Dichara (18:20):
So the name of our band is Empowered.
And what it stands for, I thinkit's important for people to
know, is God's empowered us withthe gift of music so that we
can empower others with hismessage, so you're ready for it,
so that they can then go andempower others.

That's all it's about, right?

inclusive, it can be anything.
But God, but you, Lord.
And if they would just pressinto you, you've got the
answers.
Jesus can heal the world.
And it's a fact.
He gave his life to heal theworld.
And God gave his only son toheal the world.

And just, Father God, if anyoneis going through a struggle, I
just pray, Father, just rightnow that the Holy Spirit just
come on them, that the HolySpirit touch them.
The way Ron and I experiencedwhen we were saved, Father, just
that that weight of whatthey're going through is lifted
from their shoulders, Lord God,and that their life be forever
and eternally changed.
(20:54):
We just we believe in that.

Wow, what an encouraging conversation.
One statement Benny made hasstayed with me.
It wasn't about who I was, itwas about whose I was.
Think about that.
So many people spend theirlives trying to become somebody,
a better career, a biggerpaycheck, more followers, more
(21:26):
success, and more approval.
But none of those things cangive you the peace your heart is
searching for.
Only Jesus can.
The moment we discover that ouridentity isn't found in what we
do, but in who we belong to,everything begins to change.
(21:46):
Fear loses its grip, shamebegins to fade, hope comes
alive, purpose becomes clearer,and suddenly you're no longer
trying to prove yourself.
Simply learning to trust theone who created you.
That's the freedom Jesus offersevery one of us.
(22:08):
Before we leave today, here'syour next step.
I want you to spend just fivequiet minutes with God this
week.
Turn off the television, putdown the phone, find a quiet
place, and ask him one simplequestion.
Lord, what do you want me toknow about who I am in you?

down what stands out to you.

Think of one person whoencouraged you in your faith,

Walk in his grace, live in hisfreedom, share his love, and
wherever God has placed you,that's your stage.
Use it to point people toJesus.
