EP. 78  Embracing Pain: The Gateway to Growth

What if the very thing we avoid most is actually the key to everything we desire?

Pain gets a terrible reputation in our comfort-obsessed world. We medicate it, distract from it, and design our lives to minimize it at all costs. But what if pain isn't the enemy? What if it's actually the price tag attached to everything worth having?

In this raw and transformative conversation, we explore why discomfort is the currency of growth. Drawing from both personal experiences and scientific research, we unpack five critical principles about pain that could fundamentally change how you approach life's challenges. From the biological truth that muscles must tear before strengthening to the neuroplasticity evidence showing how stress literally rewires our brains for resilience, we make the case that avoiding pain means avoiding your own potential.

We share vulnerable stories of hitting rock bottom, facing rejection, and questioning whether our dreams would ever materialize. These weren't just difficult moments—they were essential catalysts that forced clarity, revealed character, and ultimately prepared us for purposes we couldn't yet see. As we explain, "Influence isn't given, it's earned through sacrifice, scars, and showing up when it's hard." The greatest leaders don't gain respect from titles but from their willingness to embrace difficulty when others run from it.

Are you currently facing pain in your business, relationships, or personal growth journey? Listen now to discover why this might be exactly what you need—not as punishment, but as preparation for the unshakable version of yourself waiting on the other side. Because as we've learned, greatness and pain aren't opposing forces—they're partners in the same transformative process.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Welcome back to the Go All In podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I'm Braxton Cave and I'm Jake Fine.
Today we're diving deep intosomething every single one of us
you know faces, but most peopletry to run from it.
Today's episode is titled Painis the Price, and I want to dig
right in on this.
I have a few things to sayabout it.
Everything you want lives onthe other side of discomfort.

(00:46):
You know the things that peopleare very scared to go and do,
stuff that's uncomfortable.
Your goals, your dreams, yournext level they're not found in
the comfort zone.
They're paid for in full withpain, and that's basically what
we're talking about.
You know, people might look atthe title and be like you know,
this, this one's interesting, soyou're ready, we're going to

(01:09):
dig in right here.
So pain gets a bad rep and wetreat it like it's the enemy, um
, but pain is actually proofthat we're growing, that we're
stretching, that we're chasingsomething bigger that what's
behind us.
So it's, you know, just like.
Think about it.
A muscle has to tear before itgets stronger, um.
A seed has to break before itcan grow.

(01:29):
A diamond has to form underpressure.
And purpose, uh, purpose isrevealed through pain, um.
So emotional pain, mental pain, physical pain it all hurts, but
it all it also humbles us andit sharpens and transforms us.
But I mean, let's see I can gohere.

(01:53):
You know I've hit rock bottombefore and I had no clear
direction.
You know, with you know COVIDhitting it's just been a lot of.
You know, with you know COVIDhitting it's just been a lot of
pivoting a lot of.
You know figuring out what I'mgoing to do.
And you know, going back intothe RV industry, you know just

(02:18):
being around the fast paced workagain, it's just I feel good
being around it, getting doneearly and working on my brand
and stuff like that.
I've also had that.
You know, that thought in myhead of wondering you is be
better brand, is it ever gonnaget off the ground?
And every day I feel it.
You know it's, it's a sting oflike rejection but it's pushing

(02:38):
every single day and you know'regoing to go through the pains
and you just grow from them.
So that's what I have so far,you know.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
So you guys know, I like to give you, I like to give
you bullets or numbers.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
I think I feel like, at least for me, the way my
brain works.
I like to be able to likememorize stuff or write things
down.
So I'm going to go throughthese for y'all, you know.
The first one here is you don'tget the reward without
resistance, and I think growthis always on the other side of
pain, regardless of what you'redoing, whether it's physical,
emotional, spiritual.

(03:18):
It's all part of the cost, right?
A second one is pain createsclarity when life hurts it, for
it forces you to focus andrecalibrate Right.
It reveals who you really are, what you care about and what
you're willing to fight for.
Number three and you hit on thisjust a minute ago comfort is

(03:38):
the killer of greatness.
And if you're always, you knowchoosing easy, choosing average,
you know the path of leastresistance.
You know greatness demands pain, not as a punishment, but as
part of the process.
Number four you know, back to afaith foundation.
I believe God uses pain aspreparation, and every season of

(04:01):
struggle is either shaping yourcharacter or shifting your
direction.
And every season of struggle iseither shaping your character
or shifting your direction.
You know it's one of theprayers that I pray often is
that you know God puts me in therooms that I'm supposed to be
in.
God puts me in front of thepeople I'm supposed to be
surrounded with, and I may notknow why at the time, but
shifting that perspective in mymind of like I'm here for a

(04:23):
reason.
I just got to figure out whatit is.
And it may be a longer period oftime than you think and all of
a sudden it clicks.
Ah, that's why I'm supposed tobe here.
And then the last one is if youwant the platform, you better
be willing to bleed for it.
Influence isn't given, it'searned through sacrifice, scars

(04:44):
and showing up when it's hard.
And you know part of this iswithin the business world.
You know, I don't believe atitle gives you power Right In
leadership.
It's all influence.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Right.
Some of the greatest leaders inthe world don't have a title.
They lead through influence andimpact, and but for them to
develop the person they were, there's pain and a lot of people
there is pain because theydidn't get that role or that
title.
And then they figured outwhat's my skill set, what
separates me, and then they takethat and they run with it
separates me, and then they takethat and they run with it.

(05:19):
So, to leave you guys, I'd sayif you're walking through pain
right now, keep going.
It doesn't last forever andbecause on the other side is
purpose, power and a version ofyou that's unshakable, don't run
from the price.
Pay it right.
As the, as the saying goesrent's due every day, and pain

(05:40):
is part of the process.
So is greatness one more thing.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
I want to add in a little science thing for you.
Um like like there's been, studies in neuroplasticity shows
that discomfort, mental andemotional stress, literally
rewires your brain forresilience.
You know, it's proven sciencefacts, so write that down.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, I mean, and the one.
The other thing I add to it islook at some of the people who
have done some of these amazingthings.
So it's, it's easy to kind oflook at.
You know, the physicalachievements, right, like a
David Goggins of the world, right, people who've been
through hell, they're able toachieve these crazy things

(06:21):
because mentally, like you said, rewired, they're just different
and they're able to accomplishsome pretty crazy things because
what we think of as pain isn'tpain to people who've been
through some real stuff.
Until next time, thanks y'all, see ya.
