Speaker 2 (00:12):
Welcome to the Good
Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of an approachto health and wellness that is
focused on restoring your healthby restoring your balance
within your body?
One might be closer than youthink within your body.
One might be closer than youthink.
Today, I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
dr Christy Hall, with LivingWell Nutrition.
Dr Christy, how's it going?
Speaker 3 (00:31):
It's going great,
nick, thanks so much for having
me.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
We're excited to
learn all about you and your
business.
Tell us about your company orpractice.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Mm-hmm.
So I launched into nutrition asa profession about I think I
started in 2010 after being veryinterested in it for a number
of years.
I was a mom of five childrenand it was my second child that
had lots of health issues, andso I started dabbling in the
world of nutrition.
(01:00):
I come from a very Westernmedical background, from a
family of doctors and dentists, and holistic nutrition was
really outside of my area ofexperience, but after seeing my
daughter's health restoredthrough nutrition, I knew there
was something to it, so Istarted that in 2010.
And then, after doing that for awhile, I learned about genetics
(01:24):
.
I had a client call me and tellme that she had the MTHFR gene
and I had not heard of it.
Back then I did some diggingand went wait a minute, I think
this describes my family.
So then I did a master's levelwork in epigenetics and what we
call now nutrigenetics, becausewe can use nutrition to change
(01:44):
people's genetic expression andthereby restore health, and so
that was a fantastic addition tomy practice and I've been using
that to really help people gettargeted support for their
health.
And then, most recently, I gotmy doctorate in nutritional
psychiatry.
So really focusing on what'sgoing on inside the brain so
(02:05):
that we can prevent dementia orreverse dementia or health PTSD,
depression, anxiety.
There's a lot that we can dowith very targeted nutrition.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Where does this
auxiliary fuel source come from
that got you into this business?
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Well, when you're a
mom, right, you definitely have
whatever energy you need to helpyour kids.
And when my second daughter wasborn and she was so sick, I
really.
I went to Western Medicinefirst and my pediatrician agreed
that my daughter wasn't welland we ran tests and they found
(02:43):
nothing.
I said she's fine.
And I said, you know she's not.
And so then off we go to theallergist and we went down the
Western medicine, go see all thedifferent specialists and
everybody said she's fine.
She was covered in head to toewith red, angry eczema.
She had no energy as a toddler, didn't want to even play, and
so I had to go a differentdirection and I ended up with a
(03:04):
naturopathic doctor who had beena surgical nurse and in the
Atlanta area and Dr Millie she'sstill in practice today was
fantastic and she introduced meto the world of holistic health
and that just changed my entireperspective.
So that is what fueled megetting started.
(03:27):
But years later I had my owntrauma and I went into what's
called the cell danger response.
And when your body goes intothe cell danger response,
Everything changes.
Your body's ability to detoxifyshuts down, the cellular
receptors begin to shut down, your digestion shuts down.
Everything stops because thebody thinks it's in just a
(03:51):
life-threatening condition thatdoesn't end.
It's not like you're almost ina car accident or you're in a
car accident and then it's overIn the cell.
Danger response you get stuck, and I got stuck and had a
horrific heavy metal toxicity.
I ended up being told I hadfibromyalgia and chronic fatigue
(04:11):
, and so I knew the answer wasnot the antidepressant I was
being offered.
I knew that I needed to go backto the drawing board and look
at nutrition, and so that's whatfueled round two for me.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
It's clear to me who
your target customers are, but I
don't think that they know whothey are.
Could you tell us who yourtarget customers are, articulate
that and how you're trying toattract them now?
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Right.
So we work a lot with firstresponders.
My husband was a firstresponder for 18 years and an
Army veteran, so that's who wespend a lot of our time with.
But really anyone who's hadtrauma or just long-term chronic
stress that has tipped thescales from okay, stressful day
(04:55):
to overwhelm, right.
And so when someone has tippedthe scales and they're in
overwhelm, that's who we want tohelp, because we can get them
back into balance and we canreally defrag their brain so
that they're optimal again.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Have you ever thought
about doing your own podcast?
Speaker 3 (05:15):
I have not really.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Outside of work.
What do you do for fun?
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Oh goodness, I love
to scuba dive.
Most peaceful place on earth isabout 100 feet under the
surface.
I love to snow ski and gardenand I am a nerd at heart, and so
I love reading research studiesand things like that.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Let's switch gears,
and you may have already done
this.
Stop me, if you did, can youdescribe a hardship or a life
challenge that you overcame andhow it made you stronger?
What comes to mind?
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Yeah, you know, for
me it really was that time when
I went through.
I had my own trauma and it wasreally getting out of a very
dysfunctional marriage and wehad a lot of life threatening
things happen.
My life was threatenedrepeatedly, my life was
threatened repeatedly.
My home was broken into, mychildren were told that they
were going to be murdered on acouple of different occasions,
(06:10):
and so that was.
You know, that's something thatI don't wish on anyone.
It was a horrible, horribledecade in my life, but I
overcame it and you can too.
You know people that have gonethrough that kind of trauma can
recover.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
It's a lot more
common than people think these
days.
Please tell our Dr Christy, please tell our customers one
thing that they shouldabsolutely remember about living
well nutrition.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
You know, I think it
is so important, when you take
responsibility for your health,to realize that you can reverse
a lot of what's happening, andyou can do it most often without
pharmaceuticals.
And so I just encourage peopleto look, take a different path.
The pharmaceutical will alwaysbe there if you need it, but so
(06:57):
many times we can get you backinto balance and you won't need
that pharmaceutical at all.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
