Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Good
Neighbor Podcast, the place
where local businesses andneighbors come together.
Here's your host, Sophia Yvette.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome to the Good
Neighbor Podcast.
Are you in need of achiropractor?
Well, one may be closer thanyou think.
Today I have the pleasure ofintroducing your good neighbor,
jenna Carter, with the ChiroCo.
Jenna, how are you today?
I'm fantastic.
Thanks for having me.
Of course, it is a pleasure tohave you on and we're excited to
(00:35):
learn all about you and yourbusiness.
Can you start by telling ourlisteners a bit about your
company, Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
The ChiroCo is a
holistic, wellness-based
chiropractic studio located onMain Street in Grapevine, Texas,
so we focus on serving wholefamilies.
So we see a lot of prenatal, pediatric and then just a lot of
families of all ages and wereally focus in on helping aid
the nervous system and gettingour nervous system at ease so
(00:58):
that our body can heal the waythat God designed it.
And so of course we're workingon a little bit of the symptoms
but also making sure that we'regetting everyone's nervous
system so a little bit morechilled and a little bit out of
that fight or flight and makingsure that they feel seen and
safe and supported.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Now, Jenna, it sounds
like you're very passionate
about what you do.
How did you get into thisindustry to begin with?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yeah, it's a good
question.
So when I was an undergrad, Iloved science and I knew I
wanted to do something inhealthcare.
However, I knew that I alsowanted to do something more on
the holistic side, and so when Iwas shadowing all these
different types of practitioners, I shouted a chiropractor and
was instantly sold, and so Imoved here to Dallas, went to
chiropractic school and thenquickly realized that I wanted
(01:44):
to open up my own practicebecause I didn't feel like there
was anything in this area.
That really was the exact waythat I wanted to run my practice
, so I wanted it to be a littlebit longer appointments.
I wanted people to feel veryseen and heard, and so I opened
the chiropractor really quickafter graduation and kind of
never looked back and it'shonestly been such a blessing.
(02:05):
We've helped serve so manypeople in the DFW community, not
just Grapevine so it's honestlybeen so awesome to see everyone
and continue to help peoplearound the area.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Wow, jenna, sounds
like some truly amazing work
that you get to do helpingothers.
Now that you get to do helpingothers, now let's get into it a
bit more.
What is the most common myth ormisconception you get in your
industry?
Speaker 3 (02:32):
There's a lot of
myths about chiropractic.
Actually, I just did a like abig Instagram post on different
myths about chiropracticactually, but one big one is
that it's not just for back pain.
Really, what I'm focusing inwhen I'm adjusting is taking and
looking at any tension patternsthat the body is holding and
helping your nervous systemfunction, and so really focusing
(02:53):
on that whole body healing andmaking sure that we're not
really fixing anything.
We're just supporting your bodyand the natural development and
helping the body do what it wascreated to do, and so we just
help support everyone and, yes,we do get rid of a lot of
symptoms in the process ofgetting that nervous system
functioning optimally.
So it's definitely a big myth,I think, about chiropractic.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Now, who are your
target clients and, in terms of
marketing, how do you attractthem?
Speaker 3 (03:21):
It's a good question,
Obviously, I see a lot of
families like I mentioned priormy target customer is definitely
seeing.
I've seen everyone from newbornall the way up to about 65.
And so I love seeing wholefamilies, because if mom is
functioning properly then babywill kind of mimic her, and so
it's really important that wesee the whole baby, the whole
(03:41):
family, from baby all the way toadult.
And then how do I attractcustomers?
I would say Instagram isdefinitely my big main source,
so we're always postingdifferent education content and
so continuing to get theeducation there about some of
those myths, like I said, aboutchiropractic.
And then obviously we get a lotof word of mouth as well, so
it's been very cool to get thoseinitial people in the door at
(04:03):
ChiroCo.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
And then it kind of
blossomed from there with a lot
of word of mouth.
What is one hardship you had toovercome yourself that you
would like to share with ourlisteners today, and how it made
you a better and stronger woman?
Speaker 3 (04:21):
It's a good thing to
talk about.
I definitely would say thatopening ChiroCo was obviously a
big leap of faith.
So I was straight out of gradschool.
It's very scary to open abusiness.
You got to deal with LLCs andtaxes and all these fun things
that they don't teach you inchiropractic school.
But I would definitely say thatone of the big hardships was I
opened up in a really smallspace with the ChiroCo and it
(04:45):
was definitely time went throughbeing there for about a year
realizing that, man, I'm goingto have to pivot because I can
really not grow mybusiness here and it was really
scary to take a leap into abigger space with a higher
overhead.
But it's honestly been such ablessing because it's definitely
allowed for a more, a betterspace for my business to grow
and to help serve more families.
(05:05):
And so I would say that was abig hardship because that just
happened within the last yearand so it can be kind of scary
to take that leap to opening abusiness and then having to
pivot a year in was a lot.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Now for the other
business owners that may be
listening to today's podcast.
What advice do you have forthem if they come into a space
where they have to pivot intheir business?
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Yeah, that's a good
question.
I would say just making surethat you're looking at your
numbers and working with peoplewho know more than you do.
So working really closely withthose lawyers and those CPAs and
just making sure that you feellike that pivot, that you can
afford it and it's not going toadd more stress on you, because
really when I show up every day.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
I don't want to be
worried about the business side.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
I want to be showing
up for my clients, right, and so
I want to make sure that allthat business side is tucked
away and then I can tackle it onlike a Friday or the weekend.
So I'd say my biggest advice isjust making sure that you're
taking that leap, but alsoreally, really honing in and
making sure you're running thosenumbers before you have to do
that.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Most definitely, I
agree with you 100%.
Most definitely, I agree withyou 100.
So, jenna, what is the most umimportant thing?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
you would like our
listeners to take away from the
chiroco, I would say just reallymaking sure that when you're
seeking chiropractic care, thatyou find someone who's focusing
on the nervous system and notkind of treating you like herded
, herded right.
So we spend a lot of time withour clients.
And so just making sure thatyou find a chiro that is going
to spend time with you, listento you, make that connection
with you and continue to supportyou and make you feel seen and
(06:37):
heard and just spending a littlebit more time with you so that
we can get that nervous systemkind of at bay and at chill, and
that you're just not in and outin two seconds, that'd be my
biggest thing.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Now you've spoken a
lot about the nervous system.
What is the most importantthing you would like our
listeners to take away from theimportance of unblocking that
area of the body or stabilizingit?
I guess you would say.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Yeah, no, that's a
good question.
So I feel like a lot of timeswe get stuck in what's called
fight or flight or sympatheticmode and our body has a hard
time down regulating out of it.
So we live in a society, especially here in DFW, where
it's go, go, go and we a lot oftimes don't kind of chill and
relax down into what we callparasympathetic, which is our
rest and digest.
So a lot of times people kindof struggle with getting their
(07:25):
digestive systems and sleepingwell and that's a sign our
nervous system is stressed.
So, getting outside, gettingsunshine, there's so many things
that you can help support yournervous system outside of
chiropractic or in addition toand so getting your feet in the
grass and getting some grounding, like all those things are
going to help your nervoussystem kind of feel at bay, and
having a little bit of you timeis really helpful so that you
(07:46):
can give it your all on the dayto day.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Now is your nervous
system associated with what they
call cortisol face.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Oh yeah, absolutely,
yeah, so if you are kind of
stuck in your adrenals or stuckin fire, flight, that will boost
your cortisol Absolutely.
So I see that day in, day outhere where a lot of women are
coming in especially who arereally, really stressed and
their cortisol is spikingbecause their body is responding
to that stress.
So, yes, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Would you agree that
a big sign of that is the
bloating in the face or in thebody where you can see that
effect and that will kind ofsignal to go in to see you?
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Yeah, there's a lot
of ways.
I feel like a lot of people, like I said, will have like TMJ
tension and that's a sign thatyour nervous system is stressed
or they're not sleeping well.
But yes, a lot of times whenpeople get will get their blood
work drawn and they're likecortisol is out of the roof.
So, yes, that is definitely agood way to kind of gauge it
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
And where can our
listeners go to learn more about
the Cairo Co?
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Yeah, absolutely so.
I already mentioned earlierthat we're really active on our
Instagram and our Instagram isat the Cairo Co, and then we
have a really good website thatwe're constantly updating with
different blog posts andeducation.
It's the Cairo Cocom, and wealso post quite a bit on
Facebook, which is the Cairo Cograpevine, and I'd love for you
guys to follow just for somedifferent education content.
Even if you don't see me, it'sgood stuff, little tips and
(09:07):
tricks that you can do at homeas well.
