(00:03):
The away and the ambiance and night. I'm gonna keep it blotting tars on
the line below chickens so cramla. All right, vibes are right, I'm

(00:32):
be honest, is right. Thisis a bottle of Murphy Goods twenty twenty
California Chardonnay. Excellent bottle. I'mtrying to hold on to the summer and
drink all the Chardonnay and rose Ican get my hands on. It's been
beautiful and I've absolutely thoroughly enjoyed this. This is from Santa Rosa, California,
where I was last week. Onthe nose, I get a little

(00:55):
bit of citrus, maybe some apple, almost like almost like baking spices on
the nose of the chardonnay. It'sreally bright, very rich on the palette,
definitely some of that kind of likebaked goods, but like with a
citrus feel to it. Almost alittle bit of vanilla, maybe some green

(01:15):
apple or something like that. Reallyreally good. This bottle will run you
about well, depending on where you'reat and if there's a sale, because
Murphy good is really good about thatin their retail anywhere from twelve to eighteen
dollars but y'all want to know whatit really tastes like. Y'all want to
know what it really tastes like.I got y'all. It tastes like when

(01:36):
you have a main attraction for adate dinner and a show or a concert
or whatever the case may be,but the date's going so well that y'all
gotta go do something else, graba nightcap, go back to the shorty
spot like. That's what it tasteslike to me, is like things are
going so great and it's just gettingeven better. There's another episode of a

(01:57):
podcast called Grab a Glasses about ittruly. David Thomas been him on his
DT also noticed the one only BigBroccoline the episode one seventy seven. Welcome
back. Hopefully you've had a greatweek. Everything's good to go. Life
has been life. I want togive a special shout out one time for

(02:20):
anyone who's having to re begin payingthose student loans. Yeah. I know,
yes, yes, rough, it'srough when you got to pick that
ship back up. It's been along time. We've been lucky to not
have to pay. If you've beenblessed like I have, you continue to
pay so you can get that thatbalance down without the interest. But I

(02:42):
know everybody got to get back onthis ship. We didn't do it,
Joe, Joe, we didn't doit. Gee with you all my nigga
were supposed to push this through. We didn't do it, Joe. We
didn't. But that's all right. We're gonna be all right. We're gonna
be all right. I got agreat show for you this week. I
really do Episode one seventy seven, feeling good. It's beautiful. This will
air the day that the NFL isback, you know, college football is

(03:06):
back. It's just a good time. Fall is beginning. All that.
You could bring out your hoodies andyour pants and or you could switch it
up hoodies and shorts, pants andT shirts, all that. It's it's
a beautiful time to be alive onthe earth. But before we get into
the show and all that, Iwant to make sure that everybody has what
they need. It's important. I'dlike to start grab a glass being present
and everybody being on the same page. So number one the show is called

(03:29):
grab a glass. It's an actionI would ask you do that You grab
a vessel of some sort and youfill up with something that you're going to
enjoy during the show. Number two, This is a cannabis friendly podcast.
Weed is from the earth. It'shere for all of us to enjoy if
we can do it responsibly, especiallyif we're gonna be doing number one by
drinking anything that might have some alcoholin it. So just you know,

(03:51):
mix it up how you see fit, and be careful, don't be behind
the wheel of a car and thelike that. And number three, Okay,
very very important. Please hydrate duringmy show. It's a great reminder
to do so. Water is alsofrom the earth, and you should enjoy
that during the show. It's justit just it just makes everything beautiful and
crisp and clear and perfect if everybodyhas what they need, because I'm gonna

(04:14):
give you some time to do so, we'll come right back after we pay
some bills and we'll chat a littlebit a continuation, if you will.
So I spoke about my experience onlast week's show about striking up a conversation
with an older man in the SantaRosa, California Airport and all the gems

(04:34):
that I received in this by chance, super random encounter. If you recall,
I was hesitant when he spoke tome. I was focused on planning
ahead in case the current flight thatI was about to get on was going
to cause me to miss my connection. It's going to see I don't needed
to connect to Portland, and thatwould have thrown off all the plants.

(04:58):
If I missed that I had toget back to Portland. All the plans
would have been in jeopardy if Idid not. So I'm just in my
head like, okay, am Igonna have to run? Okay? Do
I have the stuff that I need? I take drama mine every time we
take off, so I just needlike do I have everything? I'm just
in my own world, okay,in my own world. So when he

(05:19):
said, hey, how's it goingtoday? I didn't physically roll my eyes,
but you know, in my headmentally I rolled my eyes. I'm
like, I'm not trying to lookbruh, not right now because whatever you
Hey, how's it going? No, I'm not trying. I'm not with
it right now. And it wasn'tnecessarily about him, like I said,

(05:40):
I was just focused on myself inmy situation and getting the things that I
needed to get just in case shitwas about to go haywire. But of
course I greeted him with enthusiasm becauseI was taught to respect my elders,
and frankly, I after the quickmarathod. In my head, I saw
no harm in him just saying hello, and I thought this would be like

(06:01):
a one minute interaction. Well,if you listen to last week's episode,
then you know he and I spokethe entire time he went through the security
line. This was an Air Forceveteran, an older Caucasian man, super
super dope and ended up being areally real cool conversation. I learned that

(06:24):
he was headed to Alaska with nobacks. By the way, we're in
California. He's headed to Alaska withno backs, big baller status. But
mind you, he told me hedoes not live in Alaska. So if
you go somewhere with no bags, let's just be clear, like like,
if you go to no backs toAlaska like that, you're probably getting the

(06:46):
ship you need while you're there, big baller status. Whilst you're there.
You heard me, Okay, Justto set the scene, so he asked
where I'm headed, because we're onthe plane. We're about to get on
the plane headed to Seattle, andI said Portland, and he goes Damn,
I love Portland. I know thatthe people around me that watch a

(07:08):
certain news station will tell you it'sawful there, but I can't listen to
that mess because it's beautiful there,to which I agreed for those of you
that don't know. Much like othercities in America, Portland is struggling with
a large unhoused population. You see, many cities on the West Coast had

(07:30):
that going on. San Francisco isanother one that comes to mind. But
there's also a large population of peoplethat wasn't going for none of that fuck
shit after the George Floyd murder andall the hell that took place in twenty
twenty. So not only is therea larger and house population here, but
Seattle's excuse me, Seattle actually hadsome shit going on too. But Portland

(07:55):
had a reputation, or gained arepumentation of being a city that, to
a certain demographic is trash. Let'sjust call a space spade. So we
started talking about that, and hewent on to talk about as he's gotten
older, told me about his childrenand all that he's watched friends become more

(08:16):
and more indoctrinated by mass media andlose their sense of empathy, their sense
of reason, their sense of logic, justifying themselves threatened by anything that isn't
their version of peaceful. He said, they've lost touch with the fact that
an issue can be resolved. Peoplewithout homes isn't something to be threatened by.

(08:43):
It's something that we have to fix, is all, and we can
do it. I'm paraphrasing what hesaid. We chadded some more about what
I did for work. He wasreally impressed with that. Told me that
he sold his commercial real estate company. We talked about marketing. Yes,
if I grew up around wine,I obviously said I did not, He

(09:05):
did, or at least close toit. And then he asked me where
I grew up, since I'm notfrom Portland or near Wine, and I
said from Chicago, and he actuallyused to live there for a little bit.
And then he goes, damn, you've lived in all the places that
some sort of news stations like topick on. And we both laughed because

(09:28):
Portland's got a reputation, and y'allknow Chicago got one. And then he
told me about his mom, whowas British, and how she taught them
never to get too consumed by thenews because she called them and I quote
misery merchants. Never heard that before, at least not in this context.

(09:50):
And if you watch too much ofit, you'll just find yourself being miserable
or mad or mean because you're uninformed. If you watch too much of it,
you'll find yourself miserable, mad ormean without having a clue what really
is going on. We both agreedPortland is not what they say, Chicago

(10:16):
is not what they say, andeven though there are parts that need help,
there are parts that are unfortunate,it can be fixed. But then
he said, and I quote thisis this is this is about as close
to quoting him as possible. Ifthey fix it, then what will they
talk about? A misery merchant that'sstuck in my head for days. Yo,

(10:43):
I'm like I see something now,I'm like, misery merchant. You're
a misery motherfucking merchant. That's whatyou is. A misery merchant. I
would argue that that goes past thenews. Though in our society these days.
Read the comments on social media,I dare you read them. It's

(11:03):
full of those misery merchants, justnegative, ass uninformed, formulated opinions about
stuff that nobody truly knows a damnthing about. There's a bunch of people
that will tell you, tesla ain'tshit, and they never droll one,
ain never been inside a one. It's a bunch of people that will argue

(11:24):
on some of these workout posts thatseem to be following me around. Somebody
will suggest to workout, and it'llbe fifty percent that say that workout it's
bullshit, fifty percent that say it'sthe greatest thing that they've ever done or
ever seen, and half it's justit's crazy. It's just arguing and misery.
My man is right, Portland isbeautiful. Someone told us right before

(11:46):
we moved here that it was ashithole, misery merchant. They were wrong.
Chicago is an immaculate city, immaculate, immaculate city. I remember being
at my college almost said the namefucked him, and kids that had never

(12:07):
been there were like, oh,I can never live in Chicago. It's
just so never been. You listento the wrong people. They don't know
shit and don't want to know shitand would rather be a part of the
problem with no ideas, thoughts oractions about the solution, and you'll just
end up with a misinformed, misery, mash up meal of some bullshit.

(12:35):
I didn't get this gentleman's name.I said that last week some TSA agent
got real aggressive about him taking hisshoes off in a certain way and moved
them to her line. I don'tknow, I don't know. I don't
know what they'd be on. Butall in all, a conversation that I
didn't want to have ended up turninginto a mini brainstorm about how to solve
the unhoused issues on the West Coast, gun safety and gun control in Chicago,

(12:58):
and urban planning. So I sayall that to say, hey,
man, have that conversation. Don'tbe worried about your flight. It's gonna
work out how it has to be. Be open minded, be kind,
and please, please please do notlisten to these motherfuckers that only push misery.
They's some merchants of the misery, and I'm not with it, and

(13:18):
you shouldn't be either. Now,something that could make a lot of basketball
fans miser poland this country is howthe USA men's team has performed in the
FEBA Basketball World Cup. At thetime of this recording, they've lost to
Germany, and I believe they'll playfor the bronze medal. This is not

(13:39):
the Olympics, it's the feeble WorldCup, so not the biggest deal in
the world. But you know, for those that want the United States to
be as excellent as it can bewhenever, it can be disappointing, especially
if you're a basketball fan. Now, I know that they didn't send the
A squad all the big name Ifyou don't know basketball, but you know

(14:00):
some of the big names, noneof those players were there. These were
more young, budding, up andcoming players. So they didn't send the
A squad And that's fine. Notedand documented that we didn't win, But
we didn't win because we didn't sendour best got it. However, I
think most people believe, even withoutthat, we could have done better than
the showing that we have currently happened. What's whole boy's name the track star

(14:24):
that said that the champions what isthe champions of? What? What did
he say? What was the name? Noah Liles? So this excellent,
very great track star had a commentrecently about the fact that the NBA can't
oh, somebody's at the house.Uh, the NBA players cannot call their

(14:46):
championship a world Championship because it's playedin the United States and it's mostly American
players. Semantics, I would say, but he's right. I mean,
if we're just gonna talk literal, fucking definitely, and yeah, it's not
the world countries versus countries, Sono, it shouldn't be called a world
championship. But that's what it's called. It's called that in many sports.
It's not a big deal. Ibet you he's feeling really vindicated at the

(15:11):
moment. But I would say thatthe funniest part about that, the whole
thing is that most of the guysthere's a bunch of NBA players that came
at him for it. Most ofthem that came at him after that World
Championship comment ain't sniffed an NBA championshipin their life. Very interesting. But
I say, I'm talking about thisbecause I've observed something and I'm presenting the

(15:35):
same solution that I always have,Because if we're worried about the feeble World
Championship, if we're worried about theNBA product, if we're worried about spirit
of excellence amongst our best and brightestathletes, I definitely have noticed something with
basketball because most of us that arebig basketball fans over a certain age,
I'd say believe that the NBA's basketball, not the NBA product. The NBA

(16:02):
product is great, some entertaining shit, but the basketball product of it has
suffered over the last decade. Let'ssay, lack of competitiveness, niggas sitting
out games, super teams built bycollusion and shit, and free agency agents
dictating to their clients what teams theyshould play for, not based on basketball,

(16:22):
but based on other shit. Whatelse? Nigga's taking the minimum to
play in the big markets, requestion trades amongst the contract you just signed,
flopping niggas holding up guns they're talkingabout one of the dudes, and
Charlotte's on percocets. I don't know, It's just etc. Etc. Right,

(16:45):
And when it comes to the FeebleWorld Cup prior to the Olympics,
the big names won't play and thatseems kind of often weird, right,
add that to the list. Whydon't we there seems to be allowed?
Lack of fire and competition amongst Americanplayers. Are they unmotivated because it's easier

(17:06):
than it's ever been to make astronomicalmoney? Maybe seems to be a factor
at least maybe a big one.But but, and this is what I
noticed this week. Get on theGraham, look up Chris Brickley, look
up any of these pickup games, any of the open runs, the shit
some of the programs, and watchthe footage of some of these these summer

(17:29):
run games. These niggas is fightingto the death. They play in their
hearts out, They yelling at eachother, talking all the shit, arguing,
diving on the ground, really justreally going for theirs. It's like
an alpha male sort of like,no, this is where I actually show

(17:51):
my peers how I get down gamepoint. And some of these games show
is more fiery than some of theseries last year in the playoffs. Shit
that Lakers Nuggets series, it wasa sweep. Honestly, some of these
game points, it look like theseniggas fighting like gladiators in ancient Rome.

(18:15):
So I said to myself, well, damn well, what what does the
NBA need to make that happen? What they need the NBA four period,
Frankly, bottle this ship up andlet's put that on TV. I'd rather
watch that if these NBA players,if y'all just really want to collect checks
and half ascid in these NBA games, that's cool. Get the bag,

(18:37):
please get the money. If moneyis the motivation, y'all doing the right
thing. Half acid in the NBA, get your money and then play in
the summer. But for those ofUS players, coaches, fans alike that
really really want to see the competitivenesson a broad scale and a mass scale,
there's got to be another way.So if y'a don't want to play

(18:59):
for the white predator story, owners, tell them to keep their money since
y'all don't like that model, andcan we please please start a real league
with real passion? Please that shitman. I saw Dennis Smith Junior and
John Wall go at it like damny'all, what the hell? I don't
want to see that energy. Andthen we can bring that energy to the

(19:22):
world and not have Daniel Tyson thenwhoop our ass in a FEBA game.
Shout out to Daniel Tyson. Bythe way, no shade there, that's
my guy. Okay, I'm abouquet of blessings after the break. Okay,
blessings is back. I got someflowers to give out. Twenty twenty
three, I'm giving out flowers.I'm giving flowers to a person, group,

What a player? What a rolemodel, what a vision like? I
just I'm praying for her because she'sthe youngest to do a lot of shit.
Obviously, we gotta give love toanybody who's set in path and set

(20:30):
and paved. I should say apath for her, the Williams sisters and
others. But I hope that shetakes that legacy and drives it even further
for American players, for black women, for black players. Kiss the trophy,
Shorty, you earned it. It'syour world. It's her world.

(20:52):
Fuck it, it's her world.Okay. On the Fly, I should
only Fly. I should only isa segment of this podcast where I put
your on game to the Museix Cinemabooks and or miscellaneous parts of the culture

have been called hot bullshit. It'ssuper fly. I like the sound.

so I just want to show hersome love. She looked great,
she sounded great. Then you wasdope. Everything was great. But her
throwback, I'm gonna say fair play. It's the name of the song came

(23:34):
