(00:03):
The blows away and the ambiance andnight I'm gonna keep it blotting. Hears
on the law. So we kickhallelo so close. All right, vibes
(00:33):
are right, ambiance is right. This is a bottle of Benvolios Friuli prosecco
out of Italy. Such a lovelyglass of prosecco. I actually am not
drinking this right now. I'll tellyou when I was drinking it here shortly,
but it was very recently and itwas amazing. Oh fuck, so
(00:55):
good. The environment was good, the wine is so good. This I
will run you about fifteen bucks,so that is an excellent price point for
this. Italian prosecco comes from thenortheast in the country of Italy, has
that lemony, citrucy, beautifully light, refreshing, bubbly that you just would
(01:19):
come to expect from prosecco, alittle bit of like green melon, honey
dew, honeysuckle. It's just yeah, it's it's amazing. What was it
really taste like at the moment thatwe had it, It tasted like just
immersing yourself in a number of culturesand how those things can be such an
orchestra. It was amazing. Fuck, it was good. We're gonna talk
(01:44):
about it for sure. There's anotherepisode of a podcast called Grab a Glass,
which by Yours Truly David Times betterknown dtape, episode one seventy nine,
Welcome back. We're just I don'tknow why I'm so chipper. I
should be I should be I shouldbe hot, I should be upset.
I almost just through the microphone becausewe just got back from Los Cabos in
(02:09):
Mexico, driving back to Portland, where it is officially changed from summer to
fall. We left ninety five degreeweather with nothing but sunshine to get back
to the Pacific Northwest, and it'dbe nothing but rain, torrential downpour.
(02:31):
We'll talk about all of it.We will. We'll get into it.
Hopefully you had a good week, good weekend. Everything's good for you.
You're getting the rust ciprocity you deserve, You're getting that money you deserve,
You're filled with love and appreciation fromother people, and everything's good. Hopefully
(02:53):
everything's good. Before we jump intothe show, though, I want to
make sure we do the three thingsthat are most important to us as we
indulge in this conversation that will hopefullypique your interest in your perspective on life.
Number one the show is called graba glass. That is a suggested
(03:13):
action that you grab a glass andyou fill it up with something you want
to drink. Keep you present whileyou listen while you contemplate. Number two.
This is a cannabis friendly environment. It's an environment that is conducive to
consuming cannabis while you listen. Sogo on ahead and enjoy that however you
do so. Also, you knowI should say this, I'm not.
(03:38):
There's other plant medicines that are outthere that I haven't quite indulged in.
But if you know, if youwant to micro dos during this, please
don't let me get in your way. Okay. That's number two and number
three very very important. Less ofa suggestion, more of a a very
hearty recommendation, is that you findsome water and you hydrate. I've over
(03:59):
the lea asked, however many daysit was that we were in Mexico,
have consumed copious amounts, inordinate amountsof alcohol. Actually probably not that much,
because you know, when you goto a resort, they keep the
drinks coming, but them shits tobe tasting like juice. But in theory,
I drank a lot, so Ineed to really get my hydration back
up. I was trying to hydratethere, but you know it's difficult.
You're sweating and all that shit.So I'm right there with y'all. Let's
(04:21):
get hydrated for the show. Anythingelse you want to add in there,
that's totally cool. We'll be backafter this. Yeah, I should be.
I should be way more upset thanI am, or that I'm acting
based on the fact that, likeI said, we just got back from
Los Cobbos in Mexico, back tothe Pacific Northwest, back to Portland,
(04:46):
Oregon, where it is gloomy asall hell, like total reverse. But
I'm not. I think because thetrip was so energizing. It was the
perfect reset, and I was justin awe of so many things while I
(05:09):
was there first and foremost. Letme back up, Actually, let me
back up just a tad. SoVeronica and I have been to Mexico together
before, we've been to Cancun.I wouldn't say early on in our relationship,
but before we did a lot ofthe big things that I guess solidified
(05:33):
the mass permanence of this relationship. So this was before we even owned our
first condo, our first property. That's how early to me it felt.
So we've been to Mexico before, but now a lot of big life things
have happened since then, so thiswas totally different. That being said,
(05:58):
we are very very blessed to evenhave the opportunity to travel in general,
let alone to have to make adecision on where we wanted to stay and
how much we wanted to spend. And again, very blessed have the ability
to pull the trigger on really amazingaccommodations and experiences. But we went back
(06:20):
and forth for a decent amount oftime as to where we wanted to stay
and how much we wanted to spend, back and forth, back and forth,
almost pulling the trigger man. Maybewe shouldn't do it, and we
could spend that money on the baby. Oh we should put that in savings.
Oh that can go into stocks.Oh you know that That whole like
trying to decide not even if youdeserve to spend the money, but if
(06:44):
you really, what better use couldthis go to. We went back and
forth for months. We bought theflight and had no accommodations until we just
decided, Okay, this is theplace we want to go, this is
the place we want to stay, and it was well worth it. I
was in awe of of many thingswhile I was there, but number one,
(07:09):
just watching my wife be pregnant andhappy and glowing and peaceful and not
have to work, and to getto read a book in her little bikini
with this big old belly Ronica. When she wears T shirts. Now that
(07:32):
belly poke out and at the bottomyou can see her skin. She looked
like Harold from Hey Arnold. Shitis very funny. And it was just
something that, you know, Iwas in awe of while I was there,
(07:54):
just watching her move around, navigate, get in the pool, float
the belly up in the air.It was cool. And the baby enjoyed
the hell out of Mexico, kickingand punching and rolling and whatever's going on
in there with them. I don'tknow what that baby is doing in there,
but it was definitely enjoying the vacationas well. So I was in
(08:15):
awe of that. I was alsoin awe of the people, mostly the
obviously the people that were working thereis what I'm referring to, because it
was such a tight knit, wellrun, extremely detail oriented, highly executed
(08:43):
resort. Everyone was super kind, extremely attentive, wildly thoughtful. We were
there to celebrate Vernica's birthday as wellas have our baby moon, and in
every turn there was some little extradetail that they would do to acknowledge that,
(09:03):
to make that an experience. Itwas great. I did everything I
could to speak all the Spanish thatwas possible within my ability, which they
seemed super appreciative of every time Iwould say something, and I know my
(09:28):
little phrases and how to tell peoplewe're vegan and where we're from. And
yeah, it was just a veryThe staff there was just extremely extremely appreciative
of us being there, making usfeel comfortable, and so I was just
in awe of that, Like thisis a massive place and every person had
(09:50):
that same energy. Obviously, Idon't know what it's like to work there.
I can't speak to that experience, but how they present was beautiful and
it just made everything great. Ifyou want information on where we stayed,
I'm happy to share it with youprivately because I think you'd enjoy it.
(10:13):
So I was in all of that. It was also an awe of just
Mexico in general, which is abeautiful country. Holy shit, I really
like it there. I know alot of people are moving there. I
brought it up to Vernic because sheshe vetoed it. But we would definitely
be back for sure. We alreadyare making plans at some point to want
(10:35):
to get back there because it's justyeah, it's it's a place to put
your at East. I was justin awe of just how beautiful Kabo was
too. We've never been there before. Amazing sunsets, the water is amazing
and though you can't get in it, Yeah, it was great. But
I finally got to read a bookthat of course we'll be featured and fly.
(11:01):
I should only that I've been meaningto read for a long time.
I've been seeing people reading it andit just called to me and I finally
got to read it. The bookis called The Creative Act, A Way
of Being. It's written by RickRubin, who is a world renowned music
producers worked with everybody. I'm notgonna list it, google it with every
(11:26):
worked with everybody, everybody, butmostly known in my life as a hip
hop producer. Again, he isnot only a hip hop producer, but
that is a big piece of hiscall It portfolio. And as I was
sitting there, before I even crackedthe book open, a thought came to
(11:48):
me because I've it's been a minutesince we've had this sort of vacation,
vacation when we're not running around wantingto do a bunch of stuff, but
just there to relax, kick back, be waited on, be doated on.
And as I was there the firstday, before I was able to
open the book, my first oneof my first thoughts was what makes us
(12:13):
all run to warm places, tropicalplaces, high climate places to do just
that, sit, sweat, bedoted on, drink juices. Some people
had alcohol, some people did baskin the sun, sleep and all that
(12:37):
just do all that whole vacation sortof vibe and a tropical, more hot
climate to recover. What is itabout us that we all do that?
And yes, of course some peoplego to Veil and Europe to you know,
ski in the mountains and all that. But I think that when people
think vacation, when we think aboutthat, usually some guy with sunscreen on
(13:03):
his nose, swim trunks, bikinis, little drinks with the umbrellas in it.
That's what we think of. Whydo we do that? Is that
learned from watching and marketing and allthat, or is there some cosmic,
instinctual sort of thing that we wantto run to that It was on my
(13:28):
brain because we all at the resort, we're doing the same thing for the
most part. Wake up, findyour little spot in the resort or on
the beach or wherever you want itto be. Put your stuff down,
sort of mark your territory to apoint, Go to breakfast, eat your
(13:50):
fill if that's what you want todo. Bring your ass back to where
you put your stuff down, andjust be there all day. Just sit
there. A lot of people werereading books. Everybody's drinking. Some people
were more social than others. Getin the pool, take a dip,
(14:11):
get back out, layout sweat allthat. Everybody's doing the same thing.
What is about us that makes uswant to do that? Why is that
the recovery thing that human beings do? So then I get to page fifty
three of this book, which isfantastic. You gotta pick it up,
especially if you're a creative, creativeperson. So I get to page fifty
(14:33):
three of this book and there's aquote there from Rick Rubin that says,
and I quote, there's a reasonwe are drawn to gazing at the ocean.
It is said the ocean provides acloser reflection of who we are in
the mirror. End quote. Sohere i am on this beach, at
(14:56):
this beautiful resort and Los Cabos toMexico. I'm having the time of my
life with my wife, bringing innew life, not working. I worked
for a hot second while we werethere. Pick up this book that I've
(15:16):
been meaning to read, wanting toread, and before i even get to
page fifty five, there's something specificallythat answers a question that I'm trying to
figure out. Why I'm on thevacation. There's a reason we are drawn
to gazing at the ocean, itsaid, the ocean provides a closer reflection
of who we are in the mirror. Perhaps this is one explanation as to
(15:41):
why we do this, Why weneed to get out in the sun,
close to an ocean or close toa body of water and just do nothing
reflect especially in this society, thiscapitalistic society, where we all work,
all working hard, and we're alltrying to climb the ladder and stack the
(16:04):
money and trying to decide if weshould spend the money on this or that
and once we were there, whetheryou spend a lot of money or not,
whether it's three days or seven, whether you're drinking alcohol or not,
whether you're gonna do a lot ofactivities or just gonna lay back, there's
something about at warmth, the abilityto be close to the water, the
(16:26):
ability to shut it all out andbe closer to whatever your source is.
I thought it was interesting that book, prior to me coming to my own
inclusion, generated an answer. Theuniverse is beautiful. It's amazing. And
(16:48):
I will say the universe is amazingand a beautiful thing because I spoke Usher
performing at the Super Bowl into existence. Yeah, you better believe that Big
Broccolini manifested that. And you knowthat if you listen to the show for
Shit a few episodes, you'll hearme talk about Usher and the fact that
(17:14):
I've been on record high, recordlong record as saying it's time for the
man to have the Super Bowl performance. Y'allna, let justin Termulate carry his
ass on there many times, y'all, just let justin Termulate show up whenever
you feel like it. And Ilove justin Termulate, don't get me wrong,
but damn come on now, let'sUsher or Sure should be up there,
(17:34):
and it's here. I'm so happy, I'm so glad about it.
So let me manifest one more thingwhile we're here. While we're going here
on episode one seventy nine, agraph a glass. Let's let's manifest that
I will be at the game tosee this live. I have not had
the chance to see Usher in Vegasat his residency. I've seen him perform
(17:59):
once before. I think it wastwenty fourteen for my mother's birthday. I
got her tickets for her birthday? Was that selfish? Maybe? Did she
enjoy it too? Of course?Bless manifest that I will be at the
game. I want to see thislive. I've I didn't manifested it now,
so I'm gonna manifest that I'm thereto witness it. Let's let's get
(18:29):
to Bouquet Blessings, floush only afterthe break. Okay, on a Bouquet
Blessings, I got some flowers togive out twenty twenty three, I'm giving
out flowers as I did in twentytwenty two. I've given flowers to a
person, group or entity for somethingdope as fuck. We call that on
this show. Bouquet blessings. It'sback again this week. It's but only
right that this will air right aroundmy brother's birthday. Happy Birthday, Jordan.
(19:00):
It's crazy. I don't even feellike I should call him my little
brother anymore because I feel like thatthat minimizes him. He's my brother,
he is my peer. I'm soproud of everything that he's doing. He
is a thoughtful, kind, empatheticman, and that is fantastic. I
(19:23):
look up to him in many ways. Oftentimes when you have that older brother
little brother thing, there's like thatwhole I don't know mentor meant. He
sort of like, you know,I'm gonna guide you because I've been there
before that that happens. It does. But I do look up to him,
and I do see him as apeer, and I admire his drive
(19:48):
and his vision for himself and hisability to take care of the things that
he takes care of for himself. He's just a model for all of us,
honestly and in many ways. Andso and you know that if you
know Jordan, you know that he'sthere's there's thought that goes into everything that
(20:14):
he does, and that's such abeautiful thing. And yeah, I'm just
proud of him. So J wantto know you'll listening to this. I
love you, can't wait to seeyou soon. And uh yeah, I
broke you off a little some.I so enjoy that. Bro love you.
Okay, I'm a flash. Itonly flash. It only is a
segment of this podcast where I putyou on game to the music, cinema,
books, and or miscellaneous parts ofthe culture I'm enjoying at the moment.
(20:37):
We talked about Rick Rubin's book TheCreative Act, A Way of Being.
Please pick that up. You're acreative It's great. I annotated the
fuck out of it. It's oneof those things that I'll have to go
back to and reread and there's there'sreal learnings in there. It's almost certainly
picked that up. I actually sawthis person reading it on social media because
(21:00):
they have a new single out.You know, a big, big staple

Lena Barross is a new single outcalled Don't Buy Me Roses. It's
fire push play. I don't reallyknow what else to say to you.
It's definitely that Friday night make adrink sort of vibe. So definitely do
that Realist K also has a newsingle out. I know a lot of
(22:30):
singles and I'm okay with them. This one's called Better definitely super smooth.
I heard this one on the plane. Push play last but not least,
just a quick throwback for you.I had a bunch because obviously we're on
vacation, so we're listening to differenttype of music, but I wanted to
(22:51):
go with this one. It's calledshe Ain't You. It's from Chris Brown.
It was twenty eleven. What atime to be alive. Twenty eleven
was a great year. Damn itwas a great year, right, great
year? Yeah, Derek Ross,Who've been? Oh man, it was
a great year. But this isa fantastic album as well. Push play
