Andrea (00:01):
Today we are reviewing
True Justice Family Ties.
Eric (00:05):
Was justice served or was
it guilty of wasting our time?
This podcast was created byfans or fans and is not
affiliated with or sponsored byHallmark or the Hallmark Channel
.
Andrea (00:19):
Hello, I'm Andrea.
Eric (00:21):
And I'm Eric, and this is
Hallmark Mysteries and More.
Andrea (00:25):
All right.
So today our description of themovie.
It's not very long.
It is a law school student andher friends set out to prove her
brother's innocence.
But the only way to clear hisname is by finding the real
killer, and this movie starredCatherine McNamara Markianne
Tarsouk might have butcheredthat Nikki Deloach and Benjamin
(00:49):
Ayers.
Eric (00:50):
Haven't heard of any of
them.
Andrea (00:54):
I mean half of them have
been on regular Hallmark movies
quite often.
Eric (00:58):
Yes, all right, well,
let's get into it.
So you know my theory though,on short descriptions tend to be
better movies, longdescriptions tend to be bad.
We talked about that a lotabout the holidays, so you know
I didn't go back and doublecheck it, but we have a short
description.
So I'm feeling optimistic hereand we have been battling a
(01:20):
little bit, but I think we're alittle agreement today.
So, andrea, overall on a scaleof one to five, one being the
worst, don't want to ever see it.
This is trash.
We are guilty of wasting ourtime.
Or five justice was served.
What do you give True justice?
Family ties?
Andrea (01:39):
Okay, so I watched this
movie now about three times.
Oh, I know the first time.
Well, the first time I onlywatched the first hour and then
I shut it off because I wasn't abig fan of the first hour and I
heard that actually for manypeople in the DMs.
So I decided, okay, let me tryit again the next day.
And I loved it.
The second hour for me is whenthe movie really picked up.
(02:01):
So the first half I would say athree, second half would be
like a five, so it kind of comesout as a four in the end for me
.
Eric (02:10):
And did that.
Even when you watched it again, did it still have you think the
slow or did you appreciate thebeginning a little more?
Andrea (02:16):
on your second or third,
whatever, I will say the third
time, I appreciated it more as awhole.
I think this is a struggle, forany new mystery series is
getting behind the characters, getting to know the characters,
and I think that was probablythe struggle for me.
Eric (02:32):
That's why we need three.
Andrea (02:33):
Right and well, even to
watch it three times, because
that also helped me like okay,I'm starting to develop like an
understanding of the characters.
I'm enjoying certain charactersmore than I did that first
viewing.
I'm invested more into theirlives, which I think for an
ensemble cast like this was, isthe whole goal of these type of
movies.
Eric (02:52):
All right, what did I?
I landed in the same number offour I will say two when I
started watching it, becausewe've we, you know, we've been
talking to the producer, we'vetalked to a lot of the people
and trying to get really behindit and get people excited for
this.
And I agree, I thought itstarted out a little.
Now it didn't last an hour, butI do think it started out a
(03:12):
little slow and I'm like, oh no,oh no.
I'm going to feel bad having togive this a just marginal
review.
But it's mostly just becauseMarcus the character, I didn't
like the brother there and itkind of was ruining the
beginning of the movie for me,because I just found him
annoying and I wanted him tostay in jail and I would be like
leave him.
But once they got into theensemble cast, I was really good
(03:37):
.
So for me I want to say it'sthe first like 20 minutes I was
like a little bit, oh no, butthen I got into it.
So I give it a solid, solidfour.
Andrea (03:48):
Yeah, I would totally
agree with you with the brother
I felt the same way.
Those first it was probablyabout the first 50 minutes was
the piece for me where itfinally turned after that 50
minute mark.
But that brother there wasquite a few scenes in those, you
know, first 50 minutes with himand I also felt the same.
It felt like he was acting likehe was in jail and it didn't
(04:09):
feel like it quite clicked theperformance and so it was a
little little rough or it kindof took you out of the movie.
Eric (04:17):
I went back and I was like
, ok, maybe this is his first
acting gig kind of thing, because you know secondary
character, homarx, bendis, moneyand the others, but he's been
in a few things.
So when he was with with, withthat Catherine there at the
beginning, casey, and she's liketalking to him, it was just
such a contrast in actingability.
(04:39):
Like you said, he was clearlylooked like he was in a high
school play and she I you knowlove classified, I thought was a
great movie.
I really enjoyed that movie andthat's, I'll be honest, that's
like my real exposure toCatherine Mcmurder.
But after watching this I'mlike that girl can act.
She, she was, she was goodthroughout the movie.
(05:01):
I just I love the way she wastalking to him but, like I said,
she should have been sayingsorry, marcus, I can't do
anything for you, you're in jail.
We're going to go on, live OurLife and have a good time down
at the bar.
Andrea (05:14):
But all right.
Eric (05:16):
But all right, so let's
scoot a little bit more into the
mystery portion of our mysteryminute.
Yeah, how did the mystery?
Andrea (05:25):
Well, we should also
just say there are new segments.
So if people are longtimelisteners, like we're doing some
new segments, which this is ourfirst time with these new
segments, so let us know howthey work for you, because we're
kind of mixing things up and wehave a few different segments
that Eric and Sydney didn't havebefore.
So if you're like, oh, this isa little different, it is.
Eric (05:44):
We're trying something
different.
We're trying to also increasethe pace a little bit.
So we'll see if people likethat, whether or not they want
to hear a strewn on and on.
But okay, yes, so we're goinginto mystery minute, where this
is where we're going to talkabout the twists and turns and
the mystery.
Did it hit, did it miss, andstuff.
So we talked, we liked theoverall movie.
How about the mystery?
Did it hit for you?
Andrea (06:05):
Yeah.
So spoiler alert, if you arelistening and you have not
watched, I am going to spoilsomething here.
So I actually really enjoyedthe two different killers.
I thought that was a greattwist from Olmark and did not
see that coming.
Often it's the same person.
If there is a double murder orif there's two murders happened
in the movie, it's the samekiller for both.
(06:25):
And so I did pick out the femalekiller.
I did peg her, just because alot of the times they give us a
ton of red herrings in themovies.
I don't think they gave usreally any.
Besides, the couple I mean itwas one of them had to have done
it.
And then you know, when thehusband ended up dead, you're
like, well, obvious as a female, but I had kind of thought that,
for I also thought it was thedad.
(06:49):
But I'm like why would he killhis daughter?
He seems really beat up aboutthis, but he did have that
guilty look and feel about himthroughout the movie.
So I kind of had it.
I just didn't think that hewould have killed someone.
I just thought there'ssomething off about this guy.
Eric (07:04):
I hope you're never on a
jury for me.
If you're like you just lookshady, I think you're guilty.
Andrea (07:09):
I don't know.
I know I'm not the only one whothought that.
I think someone posted that inmy comments too.
I was like I thought the samething.
He just had this guilty lookabout him, or the way he played
the character made it seem likethere's some shady stuff going
on here.
Eric (07:23):
Well, I was sending you
messages while I was walking or
while I was walking.
I watched the next morning andI was like I think I know who it
is.
I totally nailed the wife asthe killer, but I did not see
the dad at all.
In fact I first, when ithappened, I was like wait, what
(07:44):
happened?
What happened?
Because I don't know if it's awhatever, I kind of pride myself
and be able to figure thesemysteries out.
I thought, like you said, itwas like a little obvious of who
it is.
But I think Mystery 101 doesn'talways conceal that killer much
.
But it's a good story and itspins it well and it does a good
(08:06):
job with the characters.
That it never bothers me.
That's how this movie was aswell.
It wasn't until, like I said, once they threw the dad in there
I started doubting myself.
And when they show up and it'sthe final scene, I'm like wait,
is she really just like upset orno pants on the throat?
Andrea (08:27):
Yeah.
Eric (08:29):
No, no, I was right.
So I thought, I thought, like Isaid, I thought it was a good
mystery, maybe not the mostdifficult to solve, but still an
interesting one.
Andrea (08:39):
Yeah, and I liked the
female killer.
So the wife actually reallyliked her character.
I'm like she seems like someone, minus the fact she killed
people, but I was like it seemslike she would be a cool friend,
like I really liked the waythat she acted out this
character.
Like sometimes we have thekillers who are just obviously
mean and just like the husbandseemed that way, but she seemed
(09:01):
like, oh, she has her stufftogether.
She had that emotion when shetalked about, you know, not
having kids and I just, you know, you kind of felt for her and
so she really played.
I thought she played thatcharacter really well because I
felt empathy for her and youkind of really in that last
scene, even before, you know, she went for the throat, you're
just like.
I mean, you just saw herhumanness, which I don't know if
they always do that in Hallmarkmystery movies, so I really
(09:24):
enjoyed seeing that aspect ofher character.
Eric (09:26):
I wonder if that has
anything to do with having a
team of woman writers who maybehave a little different
perspective of how they, youknow, create that character.
Yeah, I do like, obviously, thecheating husband who's
flaunting it and everything likethat.
Like I don't think it justifiesmurder but, like you said, you
do develop a little bit ofempathy for them.
(09:48):
And once again, that's kind ofa mystery 101 thing too, where
usually the killer in mystery101, I don't want to say is
justified per se.
But you know, they got a littlesomething going on.
It's not like they're just likehey, I'm, you know I'm going to
run and kill people.
Andrea (10:03):
So right, yeah.
Eric (10:04):
All right, all right.
Well, our next new segment hereis called romance roundup.
It used to be our steam meter, but now we're a romance roundup.
So what do you think?
Did you feel any chemistry inthis movie?
Andrea (10:20):
Yeah, I think there was
three romances that I kind of
pieced from.
You know obviously Nikki andBenjamin Ayer's character.
I thought that was great.
That scene was probably myfavorite scene.
Eric (10:32):
I wish they didn't release
it.
Andrea (10:34):
I know that scene was
really good.
Eric (10:37):
Because that would have
been like.
When I saw it on social I waslike, wait, what.
I wish they wouldn't havereleased it, because that would
have been great, just to havethat 100% there.
Andrea (10:47):
Yes, that was probably
one of the best scenes.
It was just cute and the waythat you know Casey came in and
kind of played it like oh, thisis awkward, it's you know what?
Eric (10:55):
Yeah, I loved it.
Andrea (10:56):
That was a great scene.
And then between Casey and Eli,I thought they had some great
chemistry.
I did find it awkward that, like if she was friends with his
ex-girlfriend, he was justmurdered and His ex-girlfriend's
just murdered.
They're kind of flirtatious.
That whole kind of element youhave to kind of put on the back
shelf, I guess a little bit, because it seems a little fast.
Eric (11:18):
They did at the end, Like
I say, it was kind of like are
we going?
Andrea (11:22):
to be friends.
Eric (11:22):
It was playful, right, so
yeah, but there was definitely a
little flirtation, littlechemistry, but they did keep it
at bay, which I think isappropriate for just having, yes
, your friend or girlfriendmurdered.
Andrea (11:34):
Yeah, and I think when
they were, you know, playing
husband and wife when they didthe consult, I really liked the
part where she kind of like hewent to grab her hand and she
slapped her way.
She's like no, and I'm like, oh, that was just a cute little,
like subtle thing.
But like I think this movie hada lot, just as I said, with the
, you know, with the femalekiller, like they just had a lot
of those little subtle elementsthrown in there.
(11:55):
That again, having watched itthree times, I noticed those
little things that I maybewouldn't have the first brush,
but they really, I think, helpagain the movie show what
they're trying to do betweenthese characters and build some
of that ensemble cast.
Because then my last you knowchemistry was Liam and Sarah.
I thought I really hope thatthey get together in future
movies.
I really enjoyed theirchemistry, the little quick
(12:17):
banter, the Sarah Bellum, youknow the little nickname that he
gave her.
I thought that was super cuteand I can see something maybe in
the future building there thatthey could play with.
Eric (12:26):
Yeah, I loved the where
she was like re-buffing his
advance, but you could tell itwas like intrigue, yeah, she's
like no, but maybe so yes, and Iliked them as well.
I thought so, markian, Ithought he, like I said before,
(12:50):
with Kat just being really solidacting, I thought he definitely
held his own.
And the thing that wasinteresting with the romance
roundup you know we shared howBenjamin Ayres did this for free
because Nicky asked.
I think she's like hey, I'lllet you kiss me if you're in
this movie for free.
And he's like ah, sign me up,all right, because he didn't
(13:12):
have as big of a role as Ithought he was in there.
You know a couple of scenes andwe knew he was supporting and
that was like really the scenefor Benjamin.
Andrea (13:22):
Yeah, I mean, I know
he's in future ones or
potentially in future ones.
So that's what your interview, you know, said.
You know so Michael had saidthat they had signed on and
there is.
You know this is an ongoingcharacter.
So you know, I think theyworked together well on I liked
their cranberry Christmas movieand so maybe you know, they
built that friendship and justwas like hey.
Eric (13:43):
And you know we talked
about, when we're doing our year
in review, the chemistrybetween Andrew and Nicky, how we
think it's a little more, youknow, brotherly, sisterly.
I think you have Benjamin andher have a little more like, oh
hey, we could be this Completelyagree, this couple.
So I like that as well.
All right, so this is the oneI'm really looking forward to,
(14:05):
because I have a character inhere that I just I love, do you?
Andrea (14:09):
have romance roundup.
Anything to add?
Eric (14:12):
Oh, I was agreeing with
everything you said, okay.
Andrea (14:14):
I didn't know if you had
any other.
Eric (14:14):
Yes, my mind was just the
Nicky, the Nicky and Benjamin
Kiss, and then just that, that, how they they had that
flirtation with with Casey andEli, but they kept it
appropriately distanced.
And I agree with you, I wasjust seeing when they were
Eminem at the at the thing andhow they just play married.
I thought they did itbeautifully and it was just
(14:37):
setting up future.
So we once again, we need moreof these.
So, as myself proclaimed futureCEO of Hallmark, I'll make sure
it happens, so okay.
So moving on to the charactercorner, where we're going to
highlight our standoutcharacters from the film and you
said this in Samo Castlethere's plenty to be had.
So who was your favoritecharacter?
(14:58):
I love the movie.
Andrea (15:00):
So mine is Liam.
Eric (15:03):
I got hands down.
Yes.
Andrea (15:05):
Is that yours too?
Eric (15:06):
Totally yes.
Oh, my gosh Love Liam.
He was hilarious.
Andrea (15:09):
Alexander Nunes.
I looked up his name and justkind of I thought he brought
such a lightness and competencyat the same time.
Like he was fun, he was playful, but also he was like let's get
down to business.
Like you know, I'm getting paidto do this.
Eric (15:24):
And he wasn't Mason from
from Curious Cater, right yeah.
Andrea (15:29):
So like he could
actually do his job and I think
that character really tiedtogether the group well or kind
of what they showed us of him,and I would love to know more
about his backstory, just as weheard just a little bit in the
van, you know, between him andSarah and you know that's where
I think this movie or thisseries could really.
You know, you can have a wholemovie focused on Liam, next a
(15:51):
little bit more about his storyand then Sarah you could really
play with this, and I think theydid a good enough job of
exploring each of the charactersenough that were kind of
interested.
The one that they didn't show alot, and I don't know her name,
it's the other.
Eric (16:05):
it's the other female, the
one who did the forensic.
Andrea (16:06):
Yeah, and she wasn't in
it, a ton which totally makes
sense, Because with an ensemblecast you're going to have
someone who's a little, you knowdoesn't have quite the biggest
role.
So I would sure I would love tosee more with her, but I don't
know a ton about her after thisfirst movie and maybe that's on
purpose.
You know, maybe they havethings that they want to pull or
(16:27):
they maybe have someone elsewho they want to pull into the
cast Because I think this couldthrow in another love interest
and maybe have them part of thegroup.
So I like that.
That door is open.
But I definitely think Liam, for me, was just the one who was
the standout performance that Ididn't know I needed.
Eric (16:45):
So it was PJ Ellis.
Okay, pj was the, she's theforensic one and but yeah, I
agree with you so much with, oractually, or was Sarah the
forensic and PJ was the.
Sarah was she was the, the onewho had the evidence and all
(17:05):
that right.
Yeah, there was like.
Yeah, like he said, liam justhad so much to him in the great
thing about this, you know, inkudos to to Nikki and Megan for
writing a good script withcharacters is Sometimes those
secondary characters.
They don't flesh out very wellbut they, like you said, they
built enough of the story there.
(17:26):
Like one of the things thatthat had me was the, the, you
know his magnum PI or I reallyliked Magnum PI and stuff and
I'm a huge Magnum PI fan, soTotally dug that so that's why
you watched that murder.
Andrea (17:40):
She wrote episode.
Eric (17:41):
So Was that?
I don't know.
Is that a Magnum PI?
I don't remember.
I don't remember.
I've already blocked it out ofmy brain.
Andrea (17:49):
No, well, I'm gonna.
I know what murder.
Well then, I know what murder.
She wrote episode.
I'm gonna make you watch.
Eric (17:54):
Yeah, I don't think that
was the one.
But okay, but yeah, gettingback to Liam, he just was very
the way he just interacted witheverybody.
I think he just summed it upperfectly.
He was competent and stillplayful and fun, so loved, loved
him as a character.
I will say the one thing I ifwe're getting a little critical
(18:14):
of a of a Character, was Nikkias being a professor, being a
law professor and letting thesort of the class get a little
unruly, I thought, I think likewhat do you mean by that?
when Eli and Casey started goingat it with each other like, oh,
hypothetically, if someone wereto murder you know someone,
just be at the like.
(18:35):
They were clearly doing theirlittle passive aggressiveness at
each other in disrupting thewhole class like I think she
would have.
Andrea (18:43):
I would like a real
professor, but it was it made
for fun and entertainment, so Ifeel like I've been in classes.
I mean, I went to a liberalarts school and they definitely
let people Kind of go at eachother with different opinions
and ideas.
I've been in classes like that.
Yeah Well, I was about a murderof the well, no no, that kind
of thing.
Eric (19:02):
Like I said, it was there
yes.
No, not that it was a personalis clearly a personal attack on
each other kind of thing versus, yes, just a healthy debate.
But whatever nitpick, like Isaid, I liked, I thought
everyone was good.
The only thing I and this maygo back to the mystery, but,
like Benjamin, we talked abouthow he didn't have a huge role
(19:26):
who gave the envelope?
And maybe I missed it, sinceyou saw it three times and I
only saw it twice who gave themystery envelope with the the
lead?
Andrea (19:34):
They never said well,
nikki gave it to him, but they
know actually ever said, theyjust said someone special.
Eric (19:40):
Oh, maybe assuming it was
that's who I thought it was, but
I don't know.
Andrea (19:46):
Yeah, that's it.
Eric (19:47):
did they never confirmed
they just I'm assuming you
haven't, do you have a guess whoyou think it was?
Andrea (19:51):
That's who I thought it
was, so I was just assuming it
was him.
But I also would say the onething that happened with the
characters.
I liked, casey, though you knowthe leading, the leading lady
as her crime skills Absolutelyfantastic.
We're on point every time shecried.
But the one thing that Hallmarkmystery movies always does with
like why do you send them?
(20:12):
Like hey, I'm gonna call you.
You know, first I'm gonna textyou.
And so they're talking to akiller and they decided to call
let me answer this.
Oh, and now I'm gonna send youa video, as the killer is like
behind them.
You know that whole thing.
I know it's done for like dramapurposes.
It was like why don't you justsend the text first?
Like who would do all of thosesteps?
If this was actually the case, you would quick send off a text,
(20:34):
especially if you know you'rewith the killer.
Like hey, frank did it, are youokay?
Like not, let me call you, letme text you and let me send you
a video.
Like who's gonna have time todo all those things and not get
killed themselves?
Eric (20:49):
So I agree with you.
So one of the things I wasquickly touched on.
As far as the last thing of thethe character corner, it was an
assemble cast and they did dothe little slow walk Together as
they all came right, you know, from his little van and they all
turn the corner and they'redoing their little slow walk
together.
So that was classic.
I love that.
(21:10):
And then they had another linein there and I think it was
Sarah, but it was never trust aman with two first names.
And then Liam reiterated it andthat's actually been one of my
philosophies in life too peoplewho have two first names never
trust him.
So I love seeing that in themovie.
Andrea (21:30):
I didn't know that other
people thought that, so that
was great people do, I thinkthat's the thing.
Eric (21:35):
Oh, it is Okay, good it
should.
I don't.
Andrea (21:37):
I don't think that, but
Well, you don't, you have.
Eric (21:41):
You have a lot of proper
last names, you don't have to
worry about it.
Okay, so let's hallmark triviatime, something like that.
Maybe people didn't know aboutthe actors or the directors or
something in the movie.
I do have one thing for thisand and it is going to be, if
you follow us on social as well,I'll be ruining the surprise
(22:02):
for next Monday.
But the judge in the case Wasjudge McNulty, who, megan
McNulty, is the writer.
So it was well, she's also, andshe's also an actor Like Nikki,
but she didn't have a role inthis movie as well, and when
I've been talking to her on OnInstagram quite a bit, she's
(22:27):
super nice, super, super nice.
But I was like, hey, wait aminute.
It was on my second watch whenI saw judge McNulty and I had to
go back and like, did I get itright?
Sure enough.
So I sent her a picture and shelike gave me a little winky.
So they purposely that's howthey acknowledged Her and her in
this movie, even though shedidn't have an actual role.
(22:48):
And, like I say, the othertrivia thing is that we learned
that Benjamin Did do this moviejust because Nikki really
thought he would be perfect.
I agree, I thought he rockedthe role and he did the.
You know he did it for free.
It gets back to you know, we'vetalked Many times about just
that Hallmark universe Numberone, how great they treat their
(23:09):
fans and you know, us includedbut then just how they're also
very Much a family together.
There's like that very bigclick of the popular people, you
know, and he's definitely inthat click with Nikki and I.
I could see them calling up,you know, any of them.
Hey, paul Campbell, you want todo this, kimberley.
(23:29):
So I said you, will you do thisand do we do it?
And then all agreeing andsaying, sure, I'll do this,
aaron Cahill, come on over.
So, yeah, no, I bet they allwould prefer to get paid, but my
trivia is got a virgin rivertwist to it so of course.
Andrea (23:48):
Markeann Tarterra souk,
the leading guy, eli.
He actually played in twoepisodes of virgin river as a
love interest to Lizzie inseason four.
So if people were looking andthey're like maybe I've seen him
before he came in and I thinkhe played one of.
Now I'm forgetting the guy Jackand and the main girl no, now
(24:14):
the guy who plays in theHallmark movies.
I can't remember his virginriver name, lawrence, who is in
virgin river BenjaminHollingsworth.
No, he has only been in a couplemovies and I'm sure other
people know who I'm talkingabout.
Jack's best friend, the oneruns the bar with him.
He played one of his I think, true brothers that had came into
the movie.
Eric (24:34):
I think I just need to
watch some virgin river, just so
.
I can track of all the hallmarkpeople.
Andrea (24:39):
I know there's a lot of
crossovers and we have one
coming this next week in theregular Hallmark movie that was
also on virgin river.
So I'm enjoying that and I knowothers.
Eric (24:49):
I know, I know you do, I
know you do.
All right, all mark and chilltime.
So is there any other show ormovie?
You know, hallmark or not, thatyou would for people who
enjoyed this you think would bea good fit for them as well?
Andrea (25:08):
So the only thing that
came to mind and only because
it's on Homer, usually in theearly mornings or late at night,
matlock, because it's acourtroom drama and there was
some courtroom in this, and sothat's the only thing.
It also has humor, but it alsois, you know, again, a competent
movie or a competent, you knowperson who's running things.
So I, that's the only thing Icould come up with.
Eric (25:30):
I found Mark his little
description of it being 21 Mutt
Jump Street meets Law and Ordera pretty good description of
what it is, because it's likeyou know, all young people who
were doing it.
There's like 18 of them.
I haven't watched it in yearsbut I don't know how you could
(25:52):
like not, but I guess all right, you're too busy watching Virgin
River and Murder she.
Andrea (25:58):
Wrote.
Eric (26:02):
But so there's that.
But I also think if we're goingto get into a Hallmark one, I
would put this in that the Nikkiand Nora, because once again
it's you know fairly youngcharacters, you know it's got
the sister bond thing going toit.
So you know, it's clear, it'sobviously not a courtroom, it's
not a drama, you know that kindof procedural thing.
(26:24):
But it has had the same kind ofvibe with, you know, a lot of
fun, a lot of banter in it andyou know just character
diversity of characters, withmore than just one main you know
person.
So yeah, I would just sayprobably if you like one, you
like the other, maybe not.
We'll see.
Let us know in our DMs overthere on Instagram if you agree
(26:48):
or do not agree with Matlock.
A nice show.
From what?
1978?
What?
Andrea (26:56):
was the 80s.
Eric (26:58):
This is my prime time for
my mysteries, apparently
Starring a 1980, starring a 150year old actor who's very
similar to Catherine McNamara.
Andrea (27:09):
Actually, I diagnosed
this murder too.
That's a great ensemble cast.
Eric (27:12):
Another 150 year old, I
also love that series too.
That's Dick Van Dyke right.
Andrea (27:17):
Yep, it's great.
Eric (27:20):
All right, all right, all
right.
So we're in a fan corner wherewe share either emails or DMs.
We get some fans.
What I'd like you to do is Iknow you ran a little poll to
see what everyone thought.
We pulled my numbers.
Are we aligned with the publicor are we out here on our own
little mystery island?
See what?
Andrea (27:39):
I did there, okay.
So my final.
I did see that my final pollnumbers 48% gave it 5 out of 5.
48.
46% gave 4 out of 5.
3 out of 5 was just 16.
And then either a 1 or 2 starwas just 10%.
And I saw that our podcastvoted in a 1 star.
(28:04):
So really it's probably lessthan 10% that actually did,
because we clearly didn't thinkit was a 1 star.
That was you, eric.
Eric (28:12):
Yes, I did it.
Andrea (28:14):
This is a joke, because
I didn't want to give you my
point of vote no, and you sued,I already figured, I didn't want
to tell you what I was really.
Eric (28:19):
It's a good poll though I
shouldn't have skewed the poll.
Andrea (28:22):
So it was probably more
or less 50%.
Most people really enjoyed this, which was, I think, great to
see, and most of the commentsthat I had on my Instagram page
I had quite a few and a lot.
I only had one person whoreally wasn't a huge fan of it.
Otherwise, everyone else reallyenjoyed this movie.
Eric (28:37):
So I did the morning after
just the little slider bar and
I agree with you.
The only person who didn't likeit is the person who never
agrees with us.
Andrea (28:45):
Yeah, and we love her
dearly, I know.
Eric (28:48):
I know.
But everyone and I agree.
It's like most of the mysteriesseem to have a, even the
popular ones.
A lot of people like them, butthere's also a lot of people who
don't.
Whereas this one seemed to befairly Like I said, I did not
see many comments saying Idisliked the movie at all.
Andrea (29:08):
So I thought that was
good, but we need more.
Yeah, I think that's where.
Eric (29:13):
Can't have a one done.
Andrea (29:15):
Even the one who had
told us that she wasn't a big
fan of it.
She would totally be open formore.
She had told me she's like I'mtotally open for more and I
think that's a huge tip of thehat to this movie for having
people even if they didn'tnecessarily love it, they
wouldn't be opposed to watchinganother, whereas other movies
we've seen quite a few of maybecurious skaters and maybe people
(29:38):
are starting to either fall offthe wagon or beyond.
I'll be curious to see,numbers-wise, how that continues
.
Are people still going to be onboard now that we're past that
three?
Because I think a lot of peoplewill give it this rechance.
But then will it have thatsustained I enjoy you factor, or
will it start to fall thewayside?
(29:59):
Or does Hallmark not care?
I don't know.
I don't know it also seems whereyou're like.
I mean, obviously they canceledeveryone's favorite in Mystery
101.
Eric (30:09):
You're going to say a
gourmet detective which is not
canceled thanks to you.
Andrea (30:12):
I know I saw that on the
page and I'm like, hey, so
there's a chance.
They didn't say it, it wasn't.
And they have been coming outand saying if they've shut down
production or if they're notgoing to renew it, they have
been telling people we don'thave plans for more.
So for them to not say thatthey for sure don't have any,
maybe there's some hope.
Eric (30:30):
Well, obviously I've got
one big end.
I love the show.
I'd also love to see Brookeback, but Dylan's one of the
guys who's great, who talks tous all the time.
Andrea (30:38):
I love Dylan.
He is one of my favoriteHallmark stars.
Eric (30:43):
He didn't comment on that.
I don't think.
So I'm going to have to shootit over to him and say hey, hey,
because he may say no, theycanceled me.
He does not hide his truefeelings, so he's a very good,
honest guy.
So all right.
So we have a couple of newMysteries coming out.
First one is going to be in acouple of weeks Gilded Newport
(31:07):
Mysteries Murder at the Breakers.
Andrea (31:10):
Do you want me to read
the description?
I have a pull up.
A murder interrupts in 1895Vanderbilt ball.
A society columnist isattending and this is going to
air February 2nd at 8pm, whichis a Friday, central standard
time.
It stars Allie Scovey, dannyGriffin and Nathan Witt, and so
Allie Scovey was in Firefly Laneas well as the gourmet
(31:33):
detective daughter of BrookeBurns, and so you might remember
her.
I had forgot that she was thedaughter until I think you had
mentioned that and then when Iwas watching it, since they had
a marathon on Saturday, I waswatching or Sunday, whatever day
it was, but I was watching themarathon and like, oh, there she
is.
I didn't even put it togetherwhen I was watching Firefly Lane
that you know that was.
(31:54):
That was her.
So I'm excited to see her as aleading gal.
The one thing I will say afterwatching the preview a little
concern for the costume was only.
I'm used to the HBO Max, liketheir Gilded Age, their budgets
very large, and those costumesare gorgeous and on point for
the era.
These looked a little morecostume, shoppy and like they
(32:19):
just got them out of the attictype of thing.
So I mean, as long as they, youknow, kind of you can put that
aside.
That's what I'm going to try todo.
Eric (32:28):
Just having watched the
previews, well, I will say along
the lines of Emma, the maincharacter.
She actually, because she isthe Vanderbilt, but she's
removed, so she works forherself and she talks a lot
about how her clothes areconstantly being repurposed and
so many many, is always tryingto make her clothes look
(32:50):
presentable, but she is not aVanderbilt.
Now that's the question.
Do the Vanderbilt when you getto them?
Are they going to have that youknow procedure?
I don't know, so I will sayEmma the character.
It's not a surprise if it's herthat is there.
Andrea (33:07):
Okay, okay, all right.
What about you?
Are you excited for that one?
Eric (33:10):
Oh, totally, yeah, Totally
, totally, totally, totally,
like I read the book, it's we.
We talked to the writer, whothat will air the week before of
the book and she did say shewas happy because she got to see
a director cut and she says itholds pretty true to the, to her
(33:32):
book.
So a lot of times it's totallynothing like it where she said
this one does hold pretty trueto her, her, her story, and I
just think it's fun doing theperiod piece.
So I think it's somethingtotally different.
I also think, you know, we justgot to see a movie with some
young, but they're like 30-ish,right, I don't know how old they
all are, but I'm putting themlate, late 20s or 30, right,
(33:55):
whereas getting an actual 21year old, and I will say that
post when I posted the images itis by far our highest ranking
post.
Danny Griffin, who, I'm sorry, Igot to get to know the guy.
He has an insanely loyal basebecause they were reposting it,
(34:16):
re-sharing it, like we usuallyget you know a few thousand
things we had.
Well, last time I looked,38,000, we had more saves than
we usually have likes Like wehad 198 saves of those pictures.
So insane for that.
Andrea (34:35):
So I'm like looking up
who he is.
I got to figure out who DannyGriffin is.
Eric (34:40):
I do not believe he was in
Virgin River, but I would not
be surprised if he said he was.
Andrea (34:45):
Okay, okay, I can see
why.
The young girls probably thatis probably a young girl fan
base would be my guess.
Yeah, I don't recognizeanything that he's been in, so
but he does have a largefollowing.
Eric (35:00):
All right, I'm going to
roll on to February 23rd.
We have another mystery.
So within two months we'regoing to have three mysteries,
and this one is crime time freefall.
And this is crime series.
Actress Hadley Warner retiresto a small town where she
encounters her first real case.
(35:21):
Using her TV crime knowledge, she teams up with Detective Sean
Caden to solve the case.
The stars Lindy Greenwood andLuke McFarland.
Luke McFarland totally aftercatch me a few claws, he just
skyrocketed back way up to theto the elite with me again.
(35:42):
He was so good in that afterbeing in a couple movies.
So, and then Lindy Greenwoodshe's not hard on the eye.
So I'll admit I'm I'm quiteexcited for this one.
I think it's good.
Plus Stacey Harding, whodirected round and round, which
(36:06):
obviously I'm very big fan of.
I'm like I say I am very, verygame for for this.
And the funny thing is I've beentalking to her over Instagram
because I'm trying to get her.
You know.
It's like, oh, you know, if youever do, because she's she's
done a bunch of differentmysteries.
She's done mystery one like anepisode of mystery one on one.
Like pretty much every singleone out there she's done a
(36:27):
mystery.
So I'm like, if you ever do amystery again, you know I'd love
to get you in the podcast.
And she's like well, maybe I'vegot one Like she.
She hinted that it was comingand she kept doing stuff, but
she wouldn't even tell me offrecord what it was.
And then it dropped and I'mlike send her the picture.
I'm like, is this you?
And then she's like yeah, that's me.
So I'm excited because onceagain she's just an absolutely
(36:51):
fantastic director, the castAwesome and we'll see.
It's kind of a fun, fun littlepremise.
Andrea (36:59):
So yeah, I'm excited as
well.
I enjoy Luke and Lindy.
I have enjoyed I don't know ifI enjoyed her last Christmas
movie as much, it wasn't her,you know it was kind of the
movie overall but the I thinkthose two together could be
really, really fun.
And I again I like that premiseof the TV actress, you know and
(37:20):
moves to that small town andyou know I love a good small
town, cozy feels.
So this is right up my alley inthat regards.
So I am hopeful that I willreally enjoy that, that cozy
setting.
And I don't think I've seen anyactual previews of this one,
have you.
Eric (37:36):
I have not, yet I don't
know if they've done any of them
Any.
Okay, yeah, I mean I watchenough Murder.
Andrea (37:42):
She Wrote at Night or in
the mornings that I haven't
seen.
Sometimes they'll drop them onthere.
I haven't seen any yet, butthat's as long as the small town
is cute and cozy, I am all in.
Eric (37:52):
So I'm also excited to
review it because, like I say,
since Stacy's fantastic andtalks to us, that I think she'll
give a hopefully she'll come onthe podcast but B, if not,
she'll at least give us somegood like behind the scenes,
interesting, you know tidbitsabout the movie.
So it'll be, it'll be good.
(38:13):
So, yeah, okay, andrea.
Andrea (38:17):
Well, we just have one
more thing that we also have
coming up.
Remember the way home startsthis Sunday.
Eric (38:21):
Oh, correct, Wait is this
Sunday.
Andrea (38:23):
Yeah, this Sunday is the
21st.
Eric (38:26):
And I promised you that I
would watch it and we will
review the episode.
Andrea (38:32):
Yes, we'll just do a
quick little recap and review of
the episodes.
I personally, so this will be agreat little segment.
Potentially because I loved theway home, eric didn't make it
through the first three episodesof season one.
Eric (38:45):
So no, I didn't make it
through the first three, I
didn't make it through the firstfour.
Andrea (38:49):
Oh gosh.
Okay, so he needs to go backand watch season one, so he's
ready for this, and then we'llsee.
We'll see if maybe he we'veturned a corner with him and he
is all in, or we're just goingto have a disagreement every.
Eric (39:02):
I will say I definitely
came in the minority because yes
, you are.
Everybody says they love it,everyone says it's like
absolutely great TV, and theneven the ratings are mind
boggling good.
So I you know.
But I stood by myself defendingHannah, who is, by the way,
filming as of today.
I'm convinced that's what sheis doing, because Barbara Niven
(39:25):
posted a thing about how she'soff to shoot, and then they're
in the snow, Unless it's aChristmas movie.
Andrea (39:30):
but I heard of snows in
Minnesota, so I don't think they
actually film those inMinnesota, though no but that's
where it takes place.
Eric (39:39):
So I was like it's not
actually.
Andrea (39:41):
I mean, we have not had
snow, so it's not.
It's not being filmed here,Right?
I will also say, with the wayhome, my anticipation for this
new season.
Like I'm a little nervousbecause sometimes, you know,
Hallmark can drop the ball onseason two and I know this was
originally going to be a Netflixseries and so I'm hoping that
(40:01):
they had this kind of season twoworked out if eventually got
picked up.
So I am a little nervous thatI'm going to make you watch it
and you're going to be like nowI hate it even more.
So that's where I am a littlenervous.
Eric (40:14):
And it is funny how
there's, like that, the big
breaking news about how there'ssemi-nude or almost nude,
because it has you know.
Andrea (40:24):
Andy McGovern or
underwear.
Eric (40:25):
And underwear, which is
funny, because if people are
saying like, oh, whatever, I'mlike by Hallmark standards,
that's racy, but I do think whenwe actually see it, everyone's
going to be like wait, that wasit, you know, but kudos to her,
she could be time traveling andit could be like a huge long
John, you know.
But kudos to her that it's theyou know, the more mature woman
(40:48):
who's doing it versus them.
I love her and bringing in theyoung, oh yeah.
Andrea (40:51):
Love Andy.
Eric (40:53):
You haven't seen.
You haven't seen like hermovies, though going back in
time.
Andrea (40:57):
Like Four Winning in a
Funeral.
Cedar Cove is great Hove andI've seen Four Winning in a.
Eric (41:00):
Funeral oh yeah, dylan
McNeil, or Dylan McNeil.
Andrea (41:03):
I know Dylan Neal.
That's where I fell in lovewith Dylan Neal, with Cedar Cove
, and I loved Cedar Cove.
That was a show.
Eric (41:09):
Sydney talked me into that
one, because I hadn't watched
it ever Did you like that one?
Yeah, but except for you get tosee Brennan Elliott's a jerk I
know.
Andrea (41:17):
You can really see his
acting jobs.
Eric (41:19):
I'm not comfortable with
that.
Andrea (41:21):
I know I really enjoy
seeing that Like the nicest guy
and he's not.
So he's a great actor.
You can see from like the rolesthat he's played, so I actually
really enjoy that, or justseeing him play in this role.
Eric (41:30):
It just made me
uncomfortable.
But I like Dylan Neal so I liketo say he's one of the cool
guys, so I did enjoy that.
But yes, andy McNeil did existbefore Cedar Cove.
And if I'm watching, if I'mwatching Way Home, then I think
you should watch Four Winning ina Funeral.
Andrea (41:49):
I got to find it on some
streaming service.
I'll do that.
Eric (41:52):
Yeah, it's out there, ok.
Well, this is fun, it's been apleasure.
Yes, and once again it'sawesome, we finally agree again.
Real good mystery, enjoyed it.
Great acting, great chemistry, great all those stuff.
So all around.
Andrea (42:05):
And if you, like me,
gave up in that first hour, give
it another go and see if that Ithink that second hour will get
you pulled in.
Eric (42:12):
Even though you spoiled it
, but that's OK.
Andrea (42:15):
That is also true.
I did have someone else in theDS.
Eric (42:18):
But you know what we both
quit?
Andrea (42:19):
early and we both picked
it up the next day and enjoyed
it.
Eric (42:22):
So I know I'm not the only
one.
We said that, even if you knowwho we like, we figured it out.
It didn't ruin the movie.
Andrea (42:28):
So no, it really.
I mean, and you'll probablyfigure it out pretty easily as
well, even if we didn't spoil it, All right, we will see you
later.
Eric (42:37):
Bye, goodbye, 给我 needed.
