The New Testament Book of Hebrews says that we are
to encourage one another.
The Greek word means to comealongside and to give help.
We live in a time when this isvery important.
We need to be encouraging oneanother.
Who can you encourage?

We may ask the question why?
Well, Hebrews chapter tensuggests that encouragement is a
natural response to what God hasdone for us in Christ.
Because of Jesus Christ anddeath and resurrection, we have
our sin forgiveness.

We can give thanks for Barnabas.
Without him, we would never haveheard from Paul, who wrote so
much of the New Testament andwas an instrument through which
God was able to work.
It was because Barnabas believedin Paul that he was introduced
to the other disciples andencouraged to keep on in his
Christian work.
Who can you encourage today?
You'll make a difference intheir life as you love God and

love others, as the Master'sfour singer.

As we've been talking about encouraging one
another today, you may ask thequestion, why do I need to
encourage another?
And Scripture replies that weneed to encourage one another
because every one of you is apriceless original.
You do know that, don't you?
Not one person listening todayis worthless.
Scripture makes this plain againand again.

We're told from the verybeginning of creation that we're
made in the image of God.
We've been made a little morethan the angels and crowned with
glory and honor.

We need to look at each other.
That is what we are.
We are God.
If we treat works of stone andpaint created by human hands
with more respect than we do oneanother, who has been created by
God, the master designer.

We encourage one another becauseeach one is a priceless original
loved by God.

But in my lonely hours, Jesuslet me know that I was his own.
These words could be thetestimony of many of us, as it
was for the author Andre Crouch.
Born in 1942, a twin with hissister and lifelong friend
Sandra, he grew up in church.
(25:38):
His father was a minister.
At the age of 11, Andre beganplaying the piano largely by ear
and was encouraged by thecongregation to play for the
church services.
It was the start of his musicalcareer.
He became a gospel singer,songwriter, arranger, record
producer, and pastor.

The Blood Will Never Lose ItsPower.
My tribute.
And soon and very soon are someof the many songs written by
Andre that are still used in ourchurches and recorded by
Christian artists today.
He formed a gospel group calledThe Disciples in the late 60s
and 70s and produced music forchoirs.

He composed music that was usedin movies and giving him an
Oscar nomination.
He received several Grammy andDub Awards.
His music helped to bringcontemporary Christian music
into the church.
His story of musical influencecould go on at length.
He passed away in January 2015.

a problem, I'd never know whatfaith in God could do.

My dad was a very successfulbusinessman who built a
gardening business to includerestaurants and a famous show
garden in Whitby.
And so I was always astonishedwhen he told me of how he failed
grade three and had such a hardtime in school.
Apparently, he was a very poorspeller and reader, and whenever

he was asked to read aloud inelementary school, he would
break out into a nervousstutter.
Each teacher would try tocorrect him in the same way with
detentions, sarcasm, and thecrack of a ruler on his hand.
He hated learning as a result,and he was held back for a year.
But then he was promoted to theclass of Miss Randall.

And she used a differentapproach.
A smile of encouragement.
His problems didn't disappear,but his attitude began to
change.
Leonard needs to do morehomework.
(30:33):
Leonard is a poor speller.
Leonard cannot even read asimple sentence.
Can you imagine his delight whenhe read at the bottom of his
report card Leonard is a goodand willing student?
To his dying day, my fathercredited that grade five teacher
for turning his life around.
He gave himself to school 100%after that.

School was no longer boring ordull.
We all need a person like MissRandall, who will focus on our
strength, not our mistakes,praise our good qualities, and
will stand by us when we fail.
You can be that person today.
Reach out to someone and givethem a call, text them, or
message them, but let them knowthat they're of worth and you're

thinking of it.
Your encouragement will make aworld of difference in another
person's life.

How are we to encourage one another?
We read in Hebrews 10 that we'reto consider how we may spur one
another on toward love and gooddeeds.
That suggests that we're toencourage one another
thoughtfully.
Let's think about the need forencouragement and go out of our
way to offer it.
So many of us live life with noawareness of what's going on
(34:10):
around us or what other peoplemay be thinking.
And Scripture is calling us tostop and consider how we can
spur one another on toward loveand good deed.
Not only thoughtfully, but weneed to encourage one another
intentionally.
Go out of your way to encourageanother.
Write a note, give a call, dropoff a meal, let your
(34:30):
encouragement be intentional.
And we need to encourage oneanother sincerely.
There's nothing worse thanencouragement that is insincere.
Let your encouragement grow outof your relationship with
Christ.
So we read in 1 Corinthianschapter 1, praise be to the God
and Father of our Lord JesusChrist, the Father of compassion
(34:52):
and the God of allencouragement, who encourages us
in all our troubles, so that wecan encourage those in any
trouble with the encouragementwe ourselves have received from
God.
(35:16):
When offered sincerely, the wordof God brings strength to the
weak and refreshment to thefaint-hearted.
I know all this to be true.
Not because I'm a greatencourager, but because when I
went through a time of illness,it was the encouragement of many
of you listening today whohelped me journey through it
with hope.

You made a difference in mylife.

There's a great need forencouragement in our culture
right now.
People are facing difficultiesand hardships like never before.
Think of the difference youcould make in a person's life by
giving them a call and lettingthem know that they are cared
for by you and by God.
Here is Carolyn Ahrens with WhatLove Looks Like.

Down by the shore.
Every day, blind man, the windsare not blind anymore.
Everybody's talking.
How can that be?
A little butt, a gentle touch.

Now he can see that we're just gonna get a little

bit more.

At each meeting, one of them would read a story or an
essay he had written and submitit to the group for their
criticism.
Everyone was very forthright andfrank.
So much so that the group calleditself the Stranglers.
Interestingly, a group ofbrilliant girls with real
literary talent was formed atthe same time, and it was called
(43:09):
the Wranglers.
They too read their manuscriptsaloud to one another, but the
criticism was much gentler.
In fact, there was almost noneat all.
The Wranglers went out of theirway to look for good things to
say, to encourage, and to buildup the writers rather than tear
them down.
The results came about twentyyears later when the alumni
started to review their careers.

Of all the wonderful talent inthe Stranglers, not one of them
had made it in the literaryworld.
But out of the Wranglers, therehad come half a dozen successful
writers, some getting nationalrecognition like Marjorie
Rawlings, who wrote the yearly.
Was it a coincidence?
I don't think so.
Their name, the Stranglers,foreshadowed the result.

Criticism and discouragementstrangled creativity and stifled
growth.
Encouragement builds anotherobject, and an Sincerely
building one another up duringthese difficult times.
And what better encouragementcould you receive than hearing

that you are loved by God?

Who can you encourage?
There's a great need forencouragement in our culture
right now.
People are facing difficultiesand hardships like never before.
Think of the difference youcould make in a person's life by
giving them a call and lettingthem know that they are cared
for by you and by God.
Here is Carolyn Ahrens with WhatLove Looks Like.

At each meeting, one of them would read a story or an
essay he had written and submitit to the group for their
criticism.
Everyone was very forthright andfrank.
So much so that the group calleditself the Stranglers.
Interestingly, a group ofbrilliant girls with real
literary talent was formed atthe same time, and it was called
(43:09):
the Wranglers.
They too read their manuscriptsaloud to one another, but the
criticism was much gentler.
In fact, there was almost noneat all.
The Wranglers went out of theirway to look for good things to
say, to encourage, and to buildup the writers rather than tear
them down.
The results came about twentyyears later when the alumni
started to review their careers.
(43:30):
Of all the wonderful talent inthe Stranglers, not one of them
had made it in the literaryworld.
But out of the Wranglers, therehad come half a dozen successful
writers, some getting nationalrecognition like Marjorie
Rawlings, who wrote the yearly.
Was it a coincidence?
I don't think so.
Their name, the Stranglers,foreshadowed the result.

Criticism and discouragementstrangled creativity and stifled
growth.
Encouragement builds anotherobject, and an Sincerely
building one another up duringthese difficult times.
And what better encouragementcould you receive than hearing

that you are loved by God?
