Vaginal Health Deep Dive

In this episode of Hormone Heroines, we sit down with Dr. Christina Enzmann, board-certified OB-GYN and menopause specialist, to discuss genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM)—a commonly overlooked group of vaginal, urinary, and sexual-health symptoms linked to declining estrogen.

Dr. Enzmann explains why GSM is much more than vaginal dryness. Symptoms can include painful sex, vaginal burning or irritation, urinary urgency, frequent urination, recurrent bladder infections, and UTI-like symptoms that do not always show up on standard testing. We discuss why these symptoms may begin during perimenopause rather than only after menopause, as well as why they may also occur postpartum during breastfeeding or in some younger women using hormonal birth control.
