Jay Reeve and Dunc Heyde - the voices behind The Rock Drive - kick off Episode 1 of In the Driver’s Seat with Greg Murphy by taking Murph for a spin in Dunc’s 1997 V8 Chevy Suburban. It’s a classic bit of kit, “with eleven cup holders” and just the right vibe for a solid road trip yarn.
Dunc owns up to being a mellow, laid-back driver. Jay, meanwhile, describes his style as inquisitive — which might explain why this ride takes a few unexpected turns. With years spent on the road during his pro longboarding days, Jay’s relationship with driving is as layered as his playlist choices. The conversation covers everything from first cars and questionable decisions to parenting, personal growth and what’s changed for them as drivers over time.
This ten-part series invites high-profile New Zealanders to take Murph for a spin in their own cars while opening up about the lives they’ve lived — and the roads they’ve taken. Then it’s back to the studio for a more unfiltered chat about defining moments, driving habits, and the lessons that stuck.
