In Episode 12 of Season 2 Arthi has a enlightening conversation with Dr Schafer about the power of reverse empowerment.
Dr Schafer, an astute and passionate oncologist, broke bones in her ankle in an on-campus fun activity. She experienced what it was like to switch roles of no longer just being a physician but now being cared for instead. During this time she found that her oncology patients, staff and family members were attentive and the ones who were lifting her spirits, offering her gifts and encouraging words and activities. It felt that the patients found a wonderful purpose in being able to offer comfort to her, as a victim, instead of themselves always being the victim of cancer and receiving sympathy. She realised this was a form of empowerment and coined the term "reverse empowerment" Dr Schafer offer that there needs to be some bravery  to be able to change the mindset we have around trauma affected individuals and ecosystems, to allow for their full expression to occur. She has developed the “ Organic Bravery”  mechanism to train our body and brain to act in a more stable manner with regulating emotions in difficult circumstances.

Dr Schafer shares some wonderful insights, lessons and tips around reverse empowerment and activating organic bravery. Be sure to listen to the podcast to hear more from my wonderful guest, including these wise words:
-“It is very important that we give others the power and opportunity to express themselves”.
   - “We must be open to understanding that different perspective. By understanding that perspective there is a strengthened relationship”
   - “If you don’t take that risk, you may never be successful. Be mindful and let yourself explore.”
