On this episode of Jesus Listens: Stories of Prayer, we’re joined by beloved authors/speakers who coined the term “Godwink”—SQuire Rushnell and Louise DuArt. Godwinks are the little gifts left on our doorstep, the personal connection moments in which God lets us know we’re not alone. SQuire and Louise share about the latest title in their collection, Godwinks for Moms, and how the mothers and mother figures in our lives impact us, make a difference, and shape us into the people we are—all a part of God’s grand design and a way to show us how much He loves us.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hi, I'm Susie McIntyre Eaton. I want to welcome you
to Jesus Listen Stories of Prayer. I think this is
going to be a wonderful interview for you today. Squire Rushnell,
who was with ABC and did lots of different children's
programs for ABC, and his lovely wife Louise Dwart are

(00:49):
with me today. Thank you for sitting down, relaxing and
taking the time to listen, learn and get closer to God.
I'm coming into this so totally blind, and I'm really
glad I am because I had heard about a godwink
and I thought, what in the world are they talking about?

(01:12):
And you have you, I mean, you got one point
five million books.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Out out there. The thirteen books in the series. Actually
this is the thirteenth one will be Godwinks from Moms
and it's reached a tipping point. It's interesting because when
Squire came up with that phrase godwinks, which you know,
people say, well, what does a godwink? Well, it's almost

(01:38):
like if you're sitting at the dining room table with
people you love like grandma and Grandpa, and they look
at you and they give you a little wink. You
didn't ask what does that mean? You knew it meant, hey, kid,
I'm thinking about you right now. I love you. And
that's simply what a godwink is. Out of eight billion
people on the planet, it's a person, a person touched
from God saying I'm with you, You're not alone.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Personal communication, right, and that means special. Yeah, out of
eight billion, a special person, a person called great right
from God.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
You know, one of our closest friends is Kathy Lee Gifford,
and I know Reva is good friends with Kathy, and
I think Reaba has talked about God Wings and there's
so many which is great. There's a lot of celebrities
now we're talking about god Wings. We just saw where
Tim Tebow and his wife Demi and God bless him.
They're you're gonna have a baby, but they talk about

(02:33):
God Wings, how they met Dolly Parton yet, So it's
getting the word is getting out there. And and you
know we have we have several movies on Hallmark and
a movie on Netflix. And I think what people love
about them is that they're real stories and people can
relate to. If that happened to them, it can happen
to me. And basically it's God is saying you're not alone.

(02:57):
I'm in this twenty four to seven with you, you bet.
But the story that's in this book is because it's
about moms, but it's also about people in our lives
who mentor us like moms. And I had a teacher,
Missus Bennett, when I was in high school. She was
my English teacher and drama coach. And at the end

(03:18):
of the day, she would ask me because I took
shorthand and her husband, who was infirmed, he was writing
a book. Very brilliant man, but he was writing a
book and he wanted to dictate it. And she knew
I took shorthands. So I would go to her house
almost every night and I would be mentored by her.
And she always believed in me. She always thought I

(03:40):
had talent. And when I thought, you know, I'd say, oh,
I can't. She'd say, yes, Louise, you can. You reach
for the stars. You can be in the entertainment business.
I said, but Missus Bennett, I'm in Quincy, Massachusetts and
you can do this, Louise, if you believe in it.
So she was the one who encouraged me. So i'd
gone to LA I started in the entertainment industry, and

(04:01):
then I got a Broadway show in New York and
missus Bennett, now years later infirmed she has maculate degeneration.
She can't see that. Well, she's in the front row
to watch her student on Broadway.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Think about it. Another one that is very important our grandmother's.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Yes, yeah, my grandmother.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
I got the biggest godwink from him because my mama
went to work for the superintendent of school. She was
a school teacher, and she influenced a lot of people.
My grandmother was a school teacher, and she influenced my mother,
who was not her mother in law at that time.
And so my mama went to work and I hadn't

(04:46):
started school yet. So she made it to where the
school bus driver would come by our house pick me up,
and on his way to pick up my aunt who
was still in high school, he let me off and
picked her up, and so no other grandkids were around,
no other you know, my grandpa was there, but I

(05:07):
had her to myself, and God gave me that huge
blessing of Grandma who never got in between those sheets,
except that she got down on her knees at night
and she prayed for her kids and her grandkids.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
You're so right, Susie. Yeah, this book really tries to
touch almost all of those women, whether it's young mothers
or family.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Mom, grandmoms, dog moms, dog moms in there, dog and cat,
dog and cat. Okay, Well, what it does is that,
you know, moms worry about things, and they wonder am
I doing the right thing? And I think all these

(05:57):
stories in the book encouraged them to say, yeah, you're okay.
You know God is with you and He's going to
get you to the place where you need to go.
We often say that that god wings are like gifts
left on your doorstep. You have to open the door
and open your gift there for everyone. God is no

(06:19):
respect of persons. He wants us all to receive his blessing,
and he communicates with us all the time. Asquire as
you were talking, I was thinking that the radio station,
how the radio frequency. The closer you get to the tower,
the clearer the boys come. So the closer we get
to Jesus, the closer we get to God, we can

(06:40):
hear the voice more. You know, he's in Proverbs. It says,
in all your ways, acknowledge me, and I will direct
your paths. And he promises that. So we say, well,
how do we hook into that. It's all about communicating
with Him. If we can teach our kids to do
that all through their lives, that is that's the greatest
gift we can give them. As talk to God.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Well, what we do with Jesus listens, stories of prayers
that we I read a passage from Jesus Listens, and
as a prayer to him, I would just ask y'all
to join me while I read this, and I just
want to thank you so much for being here. It's

(07:23):
from Jesus Listens, August thirteenth. Magnificent Jesus. When I depend
on you, my whole perspective changes. I'm able to see
your miraculous works, though others see only natural occurrences and coincidences.
I begin each day with joyful expectation, eager to see

(07:45):
what you will do. I accept weakness as a gift
from you, knowing that your power is fulfilled and completed
shows itself most effective in my weakness. I keep my
plans tentative, trusting that your plans are far superior. I
consciously live, move and have my being in you, in

(08:07):
him we live. Yeah. I love that song, rejoicing that
you live in me, in your exhilarating name. Amen.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Thank you, What a blessing to speak with you.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Thank you so much. We're so glad you joined us
today for Jesus Listening stories of prayer with Squire Russell
and Louise Duarch. Wasn't that perfect? I just love the
way they love each other. Oh to have that kind
of relationship and then be able to work together. We'll

(08:40):
be back with another episode and another time. But always
remember that Jesus hears you, he cares for you, and
he's just a prayer away. God bless you. You have
a great day.
