(00:26):
dive into the deepest parts ofyourself.
I will share what I havelearned from my journey along
this path years of research andmentors along the way.
Having spent many years livinglife out of alignment and afraid
to go after my dreams, I knowfirsthand what it means to take
the first step down, living alife authentic to you.

(00:47):
We are on this road ofself-discovery together.
It is time for you to live thelife you imagined.
Hello, my loves, welcome tothis week's podcast episode.
I am taking a look at what dayit is today when I am recording

(01:07):
this, and we are in the tell endof July, and I feel like this
year has just flown by so, sofast.
It's wild.
I can't believe that we'realready halfway through the year
, halfway through summer, andit's just crazy.

(01:28):
Does anyone else feel that way?
It's gnarly.
So I am sitting here today andI am excited to talk to you this
week about something that I amvery familiar with and wanted to
share with you about, and thatis our home environment.
Home environment is soimportant to me and it was

(01:53):
something that I didn't thinkwas something that affected me
very greatly until I put myselfin a better home environment,
and over the last couple ofyears I have been slowly
tweaking that more and morewhere now I am actually in an

(02:14):
environment that is sosupportive and so helpful to my
emotional, mental and physicalwell-being, and I didn't know
the power in that before.
I really didn't.
I was always just kind of whereI was and making the best of it

(02:34):
and stuff like that, and now Ihave been able to see what a
huge role this has played in mylife.
So that's what I want to talkto you about today is why our
home environment is so, soimportant, and I wanted to share
with you some things that Ihave done with our home, with my

(02:58):
office, with the differentspaces in our home that have
really just transformed myrelationship with our home and
how I just I love it so much.
I love being home and how itmakes me feel.
So that is where ourconversation is going to go.

(03:21):
Our home environment isimportant for so many different
reasons and again this was forme.
This was not something that Iever thought was super important
until I moved in with my fianceand was in a better home
environment that I realized howmuch it actually changed the way

(03:45):
that I focused, the way that Iworked, the way that I felt when
I was home, and it wasn't likemy ideal home environment,
because then I began to thinkabout what my ideal home
environment was.
But moving in with him andbeing in a home environment that
supported me more than myprevious one was really

(04:07):
eye-opening for me.
So ever since then, I've reallybeen focused on trying to
create a space that is more andmore my own and more and more of
what I want it to be.
I want it to be.

(04:31):
But for all of us, ourenvironment is really huge.
It's where we spend a majorityof our life and it plays a huge
role on how we feel internally.
People who are environmentsthat they enjoy will often sleep
better, they'll focus better, they'll be able to work from
home more efficiently, they willbe, overall, just more at peace

(04:51):
with everything, and most of usnowadays even more in
particular, spend so much timeat home, people who work from
home, people who spend a lot oftime at home, like moms, you
know, children if they'rehomeschooled introverts, really,
anyone.

(05:11):
But it's estimated that about62% of our time is spent in our
homes, and that's more time thanwe spend anywhere, and that's
more time than we spend anywhere.
So that's why I feel likeinvesting in how we feel in our
home environment is so huge, because we will spend more than

(05:33):
half of our life in the placethat we live, and everyone knows
how it feels to be in a spacewhere you can't focus for one
reason or another.
It can be very tiresome to dealwith that, to deal with
distractions, because maybe youare in a space that's too cold

(05:54):
or too loud or something orother.
Having a place that doesn't feellike home can also be a problem
.
Place that doesn't feel likehome can also be a problem.
Maybe it doesn't feel like thehome you want for yourself.
So if you are living somewhereright now where it doesn't feel

(06:15):
like home to you, this is a goodthing to work on more and more,
and that's what we're going tobe discussing today is how we
can do that.
How can we create a home forourselves, because your home
should be your sanctuary.
It should be a place where youcome to rest, to replenish

(06:40):
yourself, to feel at ease, to beable to be in your flow.
There's so many things.
Our homes are so multifacetednow in what we use them for, so
we want to make sure that theyare being used and they are
optimally created for what weneed.

(07:03):
If you are trying to improveyour overall sense of well-being
, making changes to your homeenvironment can be a wonderful
start.
I can attest that you will feelthe difference when you do it.
It is night and day.
It is so incredible to be in aplace.

(07:24):
Some overall things that we cankeep in mind as we start this
conversation.
These are kind of like the moremacro things when we are
planning.
Our ideal home environment ishaving designated areas to do

(07:48):
certain tasks, so letting yourbedroom be a place of rest and
connection.
Having a designated space forwork where you can get lost in
your flow.
Using the kitchen for you to beable to eat and enjoy meals, or

(08:08):
the dining room.
Perhaps.
Let each space be what they aresupposed to be, especially with
many of us who again work fromhome or spend a lot of time at
home.
There needs to be a separationin your task and where they take
place.
You can have designated spacesin areas, like I said, but you

(08:33):
could also just have certainrules that you could apply.
So perhaps that may look likeyour laptop not leaving your
office space and when you are inyour living room it's a time of
rest and relaxation.
Your laptop is not allowed intothe living room.
If that's something that youfeel would be supportive for you

(08:56):
, the key thing here is to havethose designated spaces more so,
to have that separation.
Once we have designated spacesfor everything, we want to focus
on making these spaces what wewant them to be for, what we

(09:17):
have designated them for.
So, as an example, we'll carryon with the office example.
How do you want your office tofeel, to look, what kind of
vibes are you going for to look?
What kind of vibes are yougoing for?

(09:38):
Maybe it's clean and tidy, withnatural lighting, but a cozy
undertone as well.
This is a wonderful exercise todo with every room in your home
, and you could go as far asmaybe giving two to three
keywords for what you want tofuel or the vibes that you're
going for in each area of yourhome.

(09:59):
These are kind of going to beyour anchors for everything else
that we will be discussing Now.
We're going to go through justsome very, very easy ways that
you can make changes to create asanctuary in your home.
The first one is the mostfundamental thing, which is

(10:23):
simply keeping a tidy home, andI know that there is nothing
better than waking up to a cleanhouse in the morning and you
can find what works for you here.
You can clean as you go.
You could focus on cleaningcertain things at the end of the
day and coming back to themlater.
I love cleaning up after I cookor made a meal, and just try

(10:52):
not letting things to pile on,because then it becomes this
massive list and task list ofthings to do that you really
don't want to do, because nowit's 10 times bigger than it
could have been.
So just cleaning as you go.
You know doing little thingsthroughout your day to try to
keep it clean Wipe the counters, load the dishwasher.

(11:15):
It's truly the most basic thing, but a cluttered house is a
cluttered mind, so find whatworks for you here.
You can even hire help in thisarea, you know, but it is the
foundation for everything thatwe're gonna go on to talk about.

(11:37):
The next thing that we can do isincorporating scents.
So candles, incense, aromatherapy whatever you like
and enjoy there is nothingbetter to me than burning
candles in the morning when I'mdoing focus work.
I have candles that I burn forevery season basically, and each

(12:01):
area can smell a certain way ifyou enjoy that.
When we smell something, ourolfactory receptors tie it to a
certain moment in time.
So that means that if you areburning a peppermint candle when
you are working in your office, whenever you burn that candle,

(12:24):
your brain will know that you'reabout to get in your flow, to
get lost in that space, and youwill do so with more ease
because it's creating aconnection with that.
So I love using scents to tie acertain feeling or emotion to a

(12:44):
certain space in the home.
But even if you don't want togo to that depth, we all know
that having a space that smellsgood just makes you feel better,
so you don't have to overthinkit here.
You can find a scent that youlove and just have it throughout
the house as well.
But again, it could be candles, incense, some aromatherapy,

(13:10):
just whatever you enjoy here.
I love bringing some nature insomehow too.
For me this mostly looks likeflesh flowers, but it could be
fresh plants.
Maybe you have some shrubsoutside that you could create
some small little flowerarrangements with.

(13:32):
You could create some smalllittle flower arrangements with
some ferns of some sort.
It could be other kinds ofplants that are more indoor home
plants.
It could also look like stones, crystals, seashells, or we
could also look at doing this inthe materials that you use

(13:53):
inside of your home.
So a wood table, wood flooring, metal accents.
Let as much natural light in.
This is so so key.
Try not to use any blinds, maybe even just some light

(14:13):
curtains.
I know that having naturallight is not possible for
everyone, depending on where youlive, but you can also
accomplish this by having softerlight bulbs throughout the
house, not using as much whitelight out the house, not using

(14:36):
as much white light, so you canswap out your bulbs for
something less harsh to give asimilar vibe to the natural
light, and it creates a softnessin your overall environment.
I know that I talked aboutscents and the flowers, and I'm
really gonna talk about how toencompass all of our senses.

(14:56):
So touch, sight, smell, taste,hear.
These are incredible things tokeep in mind when you are
thinking about each space istuning into each of these things
.
So, in terms of touch, havetactile things that feel good to

(15:20):
you in each space.
It can be a super soft throwblanket in your living room, a
love seat that you love sittingin because of how it feels
against your skin.
Again, find fabrics that youreally enjoy and incorporate

(15:40):
them into each room.
There's cotton, wool, leather,velvet, silk.
You have so many options here, but I know one of the worst
things for me is like sittingdown, and I tend to have like a
blanket over my legs sometimesbecause I get cold very easily

(16:03):
and there's nothing worse to methan a scratchy blanket that is
not soft Like.
It's one of the worst things.
So I love having soft thingsaround when I am in my space.
The next thing that we can lookat is music.

(16:24):
Music is so powerful in how itcan make us feel.
Have a playlist that reallyinspires you.
You can curate this todifferent parts of the house.
Have some classical music whileyou're in the flow in your
office, or some jazz whileyou're cooking dinner in the

(16:47):
kitchen office.
Or some jazz while you'recooking dinner in the kitchen.
Just find music that you enjoy.
You could also be having adance party while you cook in
the kitchen.
It could be just something thatyou enjoy.
So if you want to feel joy inthe kitchen when you cook, what
is something that makes you feeljoyful?
You know it could be whateveryou want it to be Tying in sight

(17:10):
.
I love pictures, just anythingthat inspires you.
It doesn't have to be pictures,it could be paintings.
Oh, I love beautiful paintings, paintings of landscapes, of
anything that you love an artist, perhaps that you might like.

(17:32):
Another thing that I actuallystarted doing is putting some of
my favorite quotes around myoffice area just as simple
little reminders of some of myfavorite thoughts, and it helps
me stay kind of grounded in whatmental space I want to be in.

(17:56):
Another quite fundamental thingoutside of having a clean home
is organization.
Find ways to optimally organizethings.
When you see something out ofplace, organize it.
And maybe it's your Tupperwaredrawer in the kitchen that is a
disaster.
I feel like that is 95% ofeveryone's house, and every time

(18:22):
you open it you can't seem tofind the Tupperware and the lid
that goes with it.
So find ways that you canoptimize each space.
It could be through adding someshelving, some drawers, some
little canisters.

(18:43):
There's so many different waysthat you can organize each space
.
Pinterest is wonderful if youneed ideas.
They have ideas for literallyjust about everything and they
are very, very neat ideas, different ways of how to
organize things.

(19:03):
But you want everything to havea place.
That is really the fundamentalpart of this point.
Everything should have a place, nothing should be out of place.
Another thing that I think is sokey is to purge.
This is probably one of myfavorite things to do, because I

(19:25):
hate having clutter.
So I love getting rid of thingsthat we are not using in the
house anymore, and we keep somany things that we tend not to
use anyways.
So when you are going throughyour spaces and trying to make
them more conducive to yourneeds and trying to make them

(19:48):
more conducive to your needs, notice if there is anything that
doesn't fit what you want thespace to be.
Or maybe there are some thingsthat you have been holding on to
but don't bring any value intoyour life anymore.
I think doing a purge aboutevery season is a wonderful task
to have.
It could be different areasaround the house that you go

(20:12):
through every season your closet, the kitchen, the garage you
can donate things that you nolonger need.
Holding on to things that wedon't use is simply keeping
stagnant energy around.
You don't need to be aminimalist that is not what I'm

(20:32):
saying here but it is soimportant to look at things that
we own and look at them from ause perspective.
Is it really being used?
The last thing that I think is awonderful little hug to have is

(20:53):
a calming area in the housewhere you can come back to
yourself.
It could be a zen area.
It doesn't have to be a wholeroom or anything.
It could just be a designatedspace that grounds you, that
really makes you feel at peace.

(21:13):
For me, that is our living room, especially in the morning when
I do my morning rituals.
The back of our house faceseast, so in the morning it's a
wonderful place to be because wehave windows all through the
back of the house so I could seethe sun rising, I can see the

(21:35):
trees and the birds, and it'sjust such a wonderful place to
do my reading in the morning, todrink my coffee, and it's such
a beautiful way to start the day.
So finding a place in the houseanywhere that you can just come

(21:56):
back to yourself.
It could be a corner of yourcloset, it could be a corner of
your office, the living room, somewhere that you can just come
home to you and, wheneveryou're feeling overwhelmed or
anything like that, you can comeinto this space.

(22:18):
Everything that I shared today, though, is really for you to be
able to create a sanctuarywithin your home.
The bottom line is how do youwant to feel in your home?
I know that we found the wordsfor each room and space, each

(22:40):
designated area, but I wouldencourage you to actually find
it for your overall home.
Would encourage you to actuallyfind it for your overall home.
How do you want to feel?
Grounded, stable, inspired,comfortable, cozy, warm,

(23:02):
inviting, serene?
Really, tune into that, and letthat be your inspiration of how
you want all these spaces to be.
You can create minor changes ineach one, based off of whatever
else you need in that space.
Get inspiration online.
You can work on making anychanges that maybe you need to
make slowly, or it could even beas far as only adding a few

(23:23):
things around the house to makeit a little bit more conducive
to what you need.
How you feel is truly reflectedin your environment.
So if you're not feeling any ofthese things that I mentioned
grounded, comfortable, cozy Iwould encourage you to look at

(23:44):
your surroundings and make somesmall changes to inspire you
again and to feel at peace, because you will feel it and it
will affect your life in such awonderful way.
Let me know which one of thesetips you will be putting into

(24:08):
play in your home.
I would love to know, so pleaseshare it with me.
Or if there's already some ofthese things that you do, I
would love to know as well.
I am sending you all so muchlove and I will talk to you all
