Hey everyone welcome to theinvestor evolution podcast.
This episode will be airing onJanuary 27th.
(01:04):
So the last Monday of the month,And I want to use this kind of
as an extension to our goalsetting podcast a couple of
weeks ago at the end ofDecember.
Where we started setting ourintentions for the year.
And as we're nearing the end ofJanuary thought it was a perfect
(01:24):
time to give you anotheractionable episode of.
How we take those goals and wereflect on them so that we can
refine, iterate and move forwardto our next month.
So the purpose of this episodeis discussing the importance of
pausing to reflect regularly.
(01:45):
Using this reflection to ensureprogress toward meaningful goals
and not just staying busy.
And then setting the stage for amore intentional February.
So we're going to talk about acouple of different things in
this episode.
We're going to distinguishbetween what it means to be busy
(02:07):
versus being productive.
We're also going to evaluatewhether our goals are actually
tied to a big picture, or if weneed to realign those.
And steps for creatingintentional aligned goals moving
forward.
Number one, what is thedifference between being busy
and being productive?
(02:28):
Let's take busy.
For example, this is endlessactivity without any meaningful
progress.
Think about a treadmill.
You may be working really hard, but you are not going anywhere.
You're not making any forwardprogress.
It can be focused on checkingoff tasks from your to-do list
(02:49):
without actually consideringtheir impact.
Are they helping you movetowards your goals?
And it's also reactive ratherthan proactive.
Some examples that we can findor think of is.
Spending hours on emails orerrands that aren't really
moving us towards our goals.
(03:10):
And we think about that beingreactive versus proactive,
allowing the fires to move usthrough our day: that email came
in, I need to address that rightnow.
That text comes in.
Oh, let me take care of thatversus saying, this is the time
I'm focusing on my emails.
This is the time I'm focused onresponding to text messages.
(03:31):
This is the time that I'mputting my head down and working
on what I need to do.
Now let's contrast that withproductive.
So this is focused, intentionaleffort towards meaningful
outcomes.
And it's tied to our longtermgoals and values.
For example, are we prioritizingtasks that bring us closer to
(03:54):
our financial freedom?
Better work life harmony.
Or personal growth.
For an example that I'm doingright now on personal growth.
I had taken this test called theClifton strengths test.
And it has 34 differentstrengths, and it gives you your
(04:14):
top five or your top 10, and youcan see where they all align.
What I'm doing right now isintentionally researching my top
five strengths.
So I know how they show up forme, how I use them.
How can I use them morestrategically in my
(04:35):
relationships in my business atwork, all of those things.
So I'm.
I'm focusing on personal growth, but it isn't just to do it.
There's an intention behind it.
Here's a couple of reflectionquestions I want you to ask when
you're looking back over themonth of January.
Did I spend my time on whatmatters most?
(04:58):
Or just on what felt most Whichactivities this month brought me
closer to my goals?
And which ones were just noise?
Okay.
Number two.
Did you set goals or did youjust create a to-do list?
I have been guilty of this alot, creating that to do list.
(05:20):
So.
Did we create goals?
These are focused on outcomesand transformation, they're tied
to the vision for our life, ourcareer, our finances, our
relationships.
For an example.
I want to create$500 in passiveincome this month.
(05:40):
Or I want to have moremeaningful family time this
week.
That's tied to your goals.
And your vision for what youwant to create.
A to do list may look like it'sfocused on tasks rather than
results.
And it can often feeloverwhelming and feel like
(06:01):
you're scattered.
So examples.
I just need to clean my house.
I just need to do the emails, schedule appointments, and those
things do need to get done.
Don't get me wrong on that.
They need, they may need to bedone, but are they your focus?
Reflection questions for thismonth.
Where my goal is this monthoutcome focused or task focused?
(06:25):
Did I break my goals intoactionable steps?
What felt aligned with my biggervision and what didn't?
Number three.
Evaluating progress versusperfection.
Why progress matters.
Small wins build, momentum andbuild our confidence.
(06:49):
Perfectionism leads to inaction.
Right because we hold off, wewait until we feel like we can
do it right.
Or do it perfect before we getstarted.
So we don't do it at all.
And it may also lead to a lot ofunnecessary stress worrying
about doing it and getting theperfect.
Whereas if you just know it'snot going to be perfect and you
(07:11):
start.
You're going to start learninghow to do it better each time.
Some examples, I didn't achieveeverything, but I took the first
step and that's progress.
So one way that you can look atthis is: even though you didn't
achieve everything in yourgoals, did you take the first
(07:34):
steps and you started makingprogress?
Is that where you're at?
Or were you just in that swirlof, I don't know what to do, so
I'm not doing anything.
And if I'm going to be honestwith you, that's how I felt the
very first week of this month, the first couple of weeks,
actually, I felt like I wasjust.
I'm not sure where I was going.
(07:55):
Not sure what I was doing.
And I felt like I don't knowwhat to do, so I'm not doing
anything.
To be honest.
Here are some reflectionquestions for this topic.
What progress did I make thismonth, even if it wasn't
perfect?
Did I let perfectionism hold meback from starting or finishing
(08:17):
something?
All right.
Number four.
Aligning your vision forelevation.
Okay, big picture thinking.
One thing we need to doregularly is revisit our why for
our personal and ourprofessional growth.
Why are we doing this?
Why is this important to us?
(08:37):
I think that helps keep usgrounded and rooted in the
importance of what we're doingso that we can grow.
Does what you're doing now, align with where you're going?
For this section.
I'm gonna give you a little moreof an activity to do.
I want you to write down onething you accomplished this
(08:58):
month that aligns with yourvision for your goals.
So my goal, my intention forthis year is to elevate.
And for me, I would write downone thing I accomplished this
month that aligns with my visionfor elevation.
One of the things I can tell youI did this month and I've
(09:19):
already started is elevating mywardrobe.
I've been doing some shopping.
And it may feel like a littlebit of cheating because it's
something fun to do.
But it is part of my process andpart of the things that I'm
looking to do to elevate myselfmoving forward.
Another question.
(09:40):
What's one area you want toimprove or adjust for next
month.
I want to give you some otheractionable steps for reflection
and for goal setting.
So, number one, I want you toset aside time for reflection.
Now as this month ends, maybeyou're taking 30 minutes
(10:00):
sometime this week to reviewyour goals, your activities, and
the progress that you made thismonth.
And you can use.
Some prompts such as (10:11):
What
worked well?
What didn't work and why?
What adjustments can I makemoving forward?
These prompts will help youevaluate what happened in
January and give you ideas of.
How you need to adjust thingsmoving forward.
(10:34):
One piece of advice that I wasgiven that I'm going to
implement into my daily routine.
And to be honest, I'm just nowstarting this: I'm going to do
this on a daily and a weekly anda monthly basis, and then
probably a quarterly basis.
Set my intention in themorning., Here are the goals I
(10:56):
have for the day.
And reflect on them in theevening.
So I'm setting the intention inthe morning and then reflecting
in the evening.
And then I will do that, for theweek.
What are my intentions for theweek?
What are the things I need toaccomplish this week and
reflections at the end of theweek, and then setting the
intention for the next week.
(11:18):
Why I think this will be helpfulfor me is there will be a
framework.
And I feel like it will alsogive me a better way to look
back.
I'm very much guilty of notwriting things down, not really
recording things.
And then kind of guessing howdid it go?
(11:38):
I don't, I don't really know.
Cause I didn't record it.
So this is going to give me amuch better structure for how
did the week go?
Now I can look back at whathappened each week and assess,
how did the month go?
Was it productive?
What do I need to change?
So that's how I'm looking at it.
Number two.
(11:59):
Refocus for February.
Set two or three intentionalgoals that align with your
longterm vision.
And break those goals down tosmall, actionable steps.
Let's say your goal is I want tostart investing.
Okay.
What does that mean?
What are you investing in?
Are you investing in realestate?
The stock market?
(12:20):
Gold and Silver?
Bitcoin?
Set, an intention that's clearand aligned with your goals and
then action steps that go alongwith it.
Here's an example.
Maybe you want to startinvesting in real estate, but
you don't know anything aboutreal estate.
So maybe your goal is to learnabout real estate investing and
(12:41):
I'm going to attend weeklywebinars regarding different
types of real estate investing.
Maybe I'm going to connect withsomeone who has experience in
real estate investing to learnfrom them to, to hear their
story and gain insight movingforward.
That would be setting someintentional, actionable steps.
(13:04):
Number three.
We are going to celebrate ourwins.
When we take the time toacknowledge our big and our
small wins, and thoseaccomplishments that we've made
over the month, and we cancelebrate that, bring some
excitement in, start feelingthat energy.
(13:24):
It's going to start buildingthat momentum.
Look at what I accomplished inthis short amount of time.
What can I do moving forward?
Ask yourself, what am I proud ofthis month?
And how can I carry that energyforward?
All right friends, we have madeit to the end of this episode.
Let's talk about our keytakeaways.
(13:44):
Productivity is progress, notjust busy-ness.
Our goals should be aligned withour bigger vision and not just
tasks to complete.
Reflection can be an incrediblypowerful tool for growth and
recalibration.
I love this word iterate whereyou try something and you're
(14:06):
like, okay, I see what workedwell, what didn't.
Let me try the next version andthat recalibration can be very
helpful to increase yourmomentum moving forward.
Okay, I'm going to leave youwith one final word of
encouragement.
Don't let the weight of a busymonth keep you from seeing how
(14:27):
far you've come.
Take this time to reflect.
Be proud of what you'veaccomplished.
Adjust if you need to and keepmoving forward.
Elevation is a journey and everysmall step matters.
Thank you all for tuning intoday.
I want to hear from you, whatwent well in January?
(14:47):
What were the things that youaccomplished?
And how are you changing thingsup?
How are you restructuring forFebruary?
Or how are you keeping thatmomentum moving forward?
