(00:22):
Good morning everyone.
For those of you who are tuningin on YouTube, you can tell I'm
in a different spot.
Uh, as of this recording, I amsoaking up the incredible beauty
of the big island of Hawaii.
It has got me thinking.
About something that we don'ttalk about nearly enough, and
(00:43):
that's taking time away.
Now, back in December, we talkedabout strategic rest, but I
wanted to expand upon that.
Now is spring break time, thetime where the kids get to take
their breaks, and I thought thatwas good for us to talk about
it.
As entrepreneurs, whether you'rerunning a business, raising a
family, or just grinding throughdemanding career, stepping away
(01:06):
to rest.
And recharge can feel almostimpossible.
But the truth is it's not.
It's not just a luxury.
It really is a necessity.
Now, why does this matter?
We often feel guilty orunproductive when we take.
Breaks.
But the reality is it is reallyessential for our creativity to
(01:29):
help with problem solving aswell as our overall wellbeing.
So today I wanna share with youwhy making time for yourself is
not just a break from work, butan investment in your success.
When you're constantly caught upin the grind, it's easy to
forget that your mind and yourbody do need downtime to
recharge and perform at yourbest, just like an athlete needs
(01:52):
that rest time.
So do you as an entrepreneur.
So let's talk about some of thebenefits of taking time away.
Number one, improved creativityand problem solving.
Studies show that stepping awayfrom work allows your brain to
make new connections and come upwith creative solutions.
(02:13):
Have you ever been.
Sitting, relaxing and somethingthat you have been thinking
about working on, trying tofigure out.
All of a sudden it comes to you.
You, the solution comes to you.
When you have that downtime, itgives your brain the space that
it needs to process ideas, tothink innovatively and to come
(02:34):
up with those solutions.
Number two, increaseproductivity.
Although it may soundcounterintuitive by working
without breaks, that leads toburnout and diminished
performance.
Taking time away refreshes yourmental clarity and boosts
efficiency.
When you return, you know howyou come back from a vacation
(02:55):
and you're ready to go.
That time away really doesrecharge you.
Number three, emotional andmental wellbeing.
As we know, taking breaks, reduces stress, lowers our
cortisol levels and promotesbetter mood and mental health.
So my family got here a daybefore I did.
(03:16):
I had to work an extra daybefore I could come, but as soon
as I got onto the island, it wasjust this feeling of relaxation,
a feeling of decompression andjust a, a better outlook, a
better feeling in my body.
And it didn't take long.
(03:37):
It took less than 24 hours justgetting onto the island.
Getting into the rhythm ofvacation was enough to feel that
decompression.
When you are well rested andmentally refreshed, you're
better equipped to handle thechallenges and setbacks that
your life and business throw atyou.
(03:57):
While on the big island, I hadan incredible opportunity to
meet, one of the investors I'veknown virtually for a while in
one of our groups, and he andhis partners have purchased a
retreat center on the bigisland, and my family and I were
(04:17):
able to go down there, meet withhim.
I get to meet him in person, getto know him a little bit better,
and he was able to share with usthe vision that he has for that
retreat center.
It's gonna take a lot of work.
But being able to see this placethat I've heard him talk about
(04:38):
now for several months and beingable to be there and be a part
of it and see what the visionis, was, was really exciting for
me.
And it did a couple of thingsfor me.
A couple of the takeaways frombeing with Jason and the tour
well, was he talked about.
(04:59):
His own perspective of beinghere, being able to spend time,
uh, recharging and resting.
He's working hard, don't get mewrong.
But there's, there is justsomething about, this place for
sure that is recharging.
It's interesting that we canwork hard, but still rest well
(05:21):
even on a day-to-day basis.
So that was a big takeaway.
Being here on the Big Island hasbeen such a powerful reminder to
me that unplugging is essential.
It's not just we should do it,it's essential for our wellbeing
and for not just for my ownwellbeing, but for my family and
(05:43):
for my work as well.
I'm noticing how stepping awayis giving me a new perspective
on some of the things that I'vebeen thinking about.
It's given me renewed energy andjust a huge sense of gratitude
and a deeper sense of gratitudefor the things that I have, the
things that I'm working towards.
All of that has been just a nicetime of reflection.
(06:09):
So per perspective shift foryou, sometimes you do need to
step back to be able to see thebig picture and realign your
priorities.
Reconnecting with joy.
Here's another thing When youtake this time and vacation,
whether it's just sitting andenjoying the sunrise or the
sunset, exploring new places orjust taking time to breathe
(06:34):
really does fuel your soul andjust gives you a, a greater
sense of enjoyment and gratitudefor, for where you are in your
life.
Okay.
You know, it wouldn't be mewithout some action steps.
So here's my challenge for you.
Schedule some intentional timeaway, whether that's a weekend,
(06:55):
whether it's a day, maybe it'seven just an hour where you
unplug and recharge.
Some ideas that you can thinkabout, plan a mini getaway or a
stay staycation as we call'em,even just a day trip, can make a
difference and set boundarieswith your time.
No emails, no work calls.
Put the phone away.
(07:15):
Take a digital holiday, a deviceholiday, get rid of all those
things and just be present andreflect on how taking time away
impacts your energy, yourcreativity, and your mood.
So remember, taking time offisn't selfish or lazy.
It is an investment in yourlong-term success.
(07:36):
You can't pour from an emptycup, and sometimes the best way
to move forward is to actuallytake that step back.
So have you taken time offrecently?
And if so, how did it impactyour mindset and your
productivity?
I'd love to hear your thoughts, share in the comments, or reach
out to me directly.
I would love to know how takingthat step back helped actually
(07:57):
move you forward.
