Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning.
We're here, live.
We're on Landscape Talk morningshow.
I'm with Brayden.
We're actually going to have agreat episode today.
I'm going to talk about acouple of things, but if you are
looking for a landscape toimprove your landscape business,
check out LOS.
It's a peer group with anoperating system helping you
improve processes in yourbusiness so you can scale, grow
(00:24):
and create opportunity.
So check them out and we'regonna dive in.
Today we have Braden.
Braden is actually one of ourstarters in the morning we're
gonna talk about you know thevalue of that.
We're actually.
What are we doing today?
today we're in a meeting justtalking leadership things on how
to make the company better, yeah, so one of the things that
(00:46):
we do, definitely once a quarter, is looking at, you know, what
can we improve?
What are we doing?
Well, you know, how do we getbetter, and I think it's so
important to have differentperspectives so whether it's
ownership, management, fieldleaders and just kind of get a
360 perspective of how we can bebetter together.
So we're doing that today.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
We took a little bit
of time to record this and we
were talking about, you know, what would be something good to
share to the audience and, youknow, one of the things, brayden
, you mentioned was what Safetychecks in the morning of the
trucks, the trailers, make surethat you have all the equipment,
the trailers, hooked upcorrectly, their tires are good
(01:29):
to go, your mowers are good togo with oil and everything like
that.
So just making sure you're goodto go for the day.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Yeah, so safety
checks.
You know, I don't know why, whydid we implement them?
I don't know if you're you know, remember, but you know why did
we implement them.
I don't know if you remember, but why did we implement them
and what was the value of doingthat?
Speaker 2 (01:51):
From what I recall is
, at one point we had a guy
driving down the road and thetrailer popped off a couple of
times within that one trip.
So we implemented the safetychecks in the morning to make
sure that the trailers hooked upcorrectly and everything like
that, and since then we haven'thad any problems with that.
So yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
So you know the idea
is, when you have something,
that you you have a challenge orsomething, a trailer problem, a
huge safety thing.
We were actually lucky that youknow everything was good,
nobody was hurt.
But we take those thingsseriously and we said, okay,
what can we do moving forward tomake sure that you know things
are good?
And and one of the things thatwe came up with was the uh
(02:32):
safety check.
So Braden's our starter.
What he does is, um, you know, checks the guys out with a
tablet, you know, making sure,or a piece of paper making sure
that everything is good.
You know, you said air pressure, making sure you have the
materials, even checking to seethat the trailers, the latches,
everything's just a second setof eyes.
(02:53):
So what's the most common thingthat you see?
Speaker 2 (02:57):
you know on a daily
basis that maybe somebody
doesn't have you're talking with, like the safety checks in the
morning, yeah, when they comethrough through the line, or you
know, and maybe, maybe it'deven be helpful just to kind of
paint a picture.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
You know what does
that look like.
So in the morning it'll justtake us through kind of morning
operations, through the safetycheck and then through them
leaving.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
So in the morning we
do a flex instruction,
everything and then let the guysknow what they're doing for the
day.
Then they hop in their trucks, they pull up, they stop.
Uh, their checklist should befilled out the night before.
So then we go over thechecklist, make sure that
everything's there, double checkthe, the hitch, the chains are
(03:43):
hooked up, the lights are hookedup, the brake release is hooked
up, and then walk around thetrailer and everything like that
.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
And then they're good
to go.
You're looking like a midget, you're like shrinking in the
screen so like, yeah, we justhave fun with some of these
things, you know.
But you know that's a great,great example.
So you know, the idea is, youknow, just just double checking
and you know, and we've seen alot of success with that.
So if you're interested inthose things, los are some of
(04:13):
the areas where we've got someof those improve as a company.
I mean Brayden does a great jobin getting us going and just
making sure we start the day offright.
I mean even service level, likehow many times do we go and we
say we need a ladder and there'snot a ladder in a trailer?
So just that second check hasbeen like really helpful to to
know I'm glad to have you on theteam, you know.
(04:35):
You know it's fun to see yougrow and and just you know,
helping our people.
And we actually had aconversation today and we talked
about just the importance ofholding people accountable and
not feeling bad about.
You know I call it, say, calling balls and strikes.
You know, hey, what happens ifsomebody's not prepared?
Why don't we, why don't youshare about that?
(04:56):
So they come to the checkpoint, they're not prepared, what do
you do?
Speaker 2 (05:00):
you send them to the
back of the line, make sure that
they have all their stuff, andthen they get checked out again
yeah so the process.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Process works, um,
we're not perfect in what we do.
We admit that.
We just show you what what wedo like we had trailer fall off,
you know that is I mean, thatwas a while ago, but those are
things that we hope you learnfrom to prevent things.
Um, yeah, as you listen, so oneof the fan favorites of what we
do is you can't make it up.
So I don't know if you haveanything that you're thinking of
(05:28):
.
You know you can't make it upand we've given a lot of
examples, from strapping downdirt to the crazy things that we
see in our organization or wesee out there.
I mean, you just can't makethis stuff up.
I think last one of theepisodes and it can be anywhere
I used the one example with homedepot.
I was at um, I think it waslowes.
(05:49):
I was at lowes, um, and I heardone of the guys talking and
he's like um, you know if youheard this already, but it's
just, it's still a good one.
The guy was like the toilet'sclogged, so we're like all right
, um, the guy's like hey, canyou take, take the guy a plunger
.
So the guy takes the guy in thestall the plunger.
You know who knows?
(06:11):
You know, this is just what Iheard him talking about.
And he gives him the, theplunger, and he's like um, how
do I use this?
I mean you can't make it up.
I mean, what are you gonna do?
Why is he at lows?
What's he doing?
Um, so the guy's like I'm notplunging it for you, like here,
you got to read the manual, soyou just can't make that up.
(06:32):
So is there anything that youcan think of?
Uh, that you know thatsomething that you've seen
that's just like this is justridiculous uh, uh, the one thing
that popped into my head.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
I mean it's something
to joke about, but once on
there was a guy that was stringtrim without string.
Like how do you possibly dothat?
But you just can't.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
You can't make it up
yeah, that's why we have it.
If you have the story, we'dlove for you to share with us.
We love to hear, and we'reactually compiling these and
we're going to have a bracketchallenge of the best one
advances, there's going to to bea winner for this.
So keep looking, keep sharing, keep seeing those things that
are just like you just can'tmake it up.
I mean, share them with us.
We love to hear.
(07:13):
