Mother’s Body Fact: By now, you might be noticing physical changes like fuller breasts or a slight rounding of your lower abdomen. Hormones are in full effect, which can bring intense emotions, vivid dreams, and a heightened sense of intuition. In Week 8 of pregnancy you may begin to notice changes in your sense of taste and smell, often referred to as "food aversions" or "cravings." This heightened sensitivity is due to increased levels of the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which can lead to a metallic taste in your mouth or an aversion to certain smells and foods that you once enjoyed. This can be your body’s way of protecting both you and your developing baby, as it instinctively encourages you to seek out nutrient-rich foods while avoiding those that might not be beneficial during early pregnancy.

Baby’s Development Fact: At roughly the size of a raspberry (about 0.6 inches), your baby is now officially called a fetus. Tiny fingers, toes, and eyelids are beginning to form, and the heart is beating strongly at around 150-170 beats per minute. This week, brain development is highly active, and the spinal cord is growing, which will soon allow for tiny movements.
