Things have been a little crazy over here so Math Therapy is going to take a couple weeks off to catch our breath, but we will be back later this month to get you fired up for back to school!

In the meantime, here are a few ways you can get your Math Therapy fix:

  • Vanessa was recently featured in episode 2 of the 3-part series on math anxiety called Heart Work by Imagine Learning
  • She was also just interviewed on the Modern Math Teacher podcast
  • Math Therapy Roulette!  Go to the podcast feed in your app, scroll way back and randomly pick an episode to listen to - we've been podcasting since 2019 so there are a lot of gems back there!

Enjoy the rest of your summer and we'll be back soon - and make sure to take care of yourself too if you need it!

Vanessa Vakharia (00:00):
Hey, guys.
It's me, it's Vanessa.
This is Math I am recording thisfrom my hotel room in Utah I
just left Boston, where I waspresenting at Get Your Teach On,
which was literally magical.
My friend Allison Mello put onthis entire conference that was
Christmas-themed, and it wasunreal.

(00:22):
There was, like, a gingerbreadland.
Everything was a vibe.

We I had two outfit changes (00:26):
one in red velvet, one in green
velvet.
Anyways, it was amazing, andthen right away I had to leave
and head to Utah for the firsttime ever to do two days of
professional development withDavis County School District
starting tomorrow.
I'm actually so excited becausethis is just my first trip,
because I'm working with themfor the entire year, and guys,

(00:47):
Utah has been on my bucket list.
I cannot wait.
I have wanted to try a dirtysoda for, like, literally two
years now, and it's gonnahappen.
And I have a whole day off onSaturday, so text me your
recommendations.
Anyways, okay, the whole pointis, long story short, I ran out
of time, things got a bithectic, and I was like,"Instead
of forcing an episode, I'm gonnatake a break for a couple of

(01:08):
weeks." Now, I hate taking abreak.
I feel like I'm letting you guysdown.
I feel like you expected anepisode, but instead you have me
telling you all the reasons whyyou don't have an episode.
Things have been a bit crazythis summer, and David convinced
me that podcasts take breaksapparently, and I'm not a
failure, and everything's fine.
So I'm choosing to just believehim because I don't really have

(01:29):
another choice right now.
Honestly, though, I've been abit burnt out the last few
weeks, and I'm always giving outadvice about self-care and,
like, blah, blah, blah, how tolook after yourselves when
you're stressed.
And of course, I'm really bad attaking my own advice.
And I think we can all agreeit's way too soon for me to do
another episode where I have apanic attack meltdown in your
ears.
So we're gonna get caught upover the next couple of weeks,

(01:51):
and we will be back in no time.
We just did a whole bunch ofamazing interviews, so we're
gonna process those, and Ipromise you we will have some
amazing episodes coming up inthe next few weeks.
And if you're like,"Okay, cool, like, yes, I want you to take
care of yourself, but I alsowanted to listen to you", don't

(02:11):
worry, I have a plan.
There are actually a fewinterviews I've done recently on
other people's podcasts that youcan listen to right now.
The two that come to mind are, number one, the three-part
series that HeartWork did onmath anxiety.
Now, you may have alreadylistened to this, but if you
haven't, HeartWork is actuallyan Imagine Learning podcast

(02:31):
series, and they are so good,They basically did a three-part
series on math anxiety featuringme, Peter Liljedahl, Deborah
Peart, some other amazingeducators, and I'm on the second
episode.
And I don't wanna give too muchaway, but we have something
coming up on this podcast, like,Math Therapy, that ties directly
to Heartwork's three-partseries.

(02:51):
So if you haven't heard it yet, this is a great time to go hit
play because that'll put youahead of the game when we
release our surprise next month.
So that's my first suggestion.
Go listen to Heartwork'sthree-part series on math
anxiety.
The second podcast you canlisten to is Kristin Moore's
Modern Math Teacher podcast.
She did a huge series on mybook, Math Therapy.
This was actually really cool.

(03:12):
She basically treated herpodcast like a Math Therapy book
study with 10 to 15-minuteepisodes every week about every
chapter.
Actually, it wasn't even everyweek, it was like every day.
She, like, really banked a wholebunch.
And for the final episode inthat series, she interviewed me,
and I actually gave her a littlebit of live math therapy.
So you can binge that right nowby hitting up the Modern Math

(03:32):
Teacher podcast.
Now, here's the bonus idea Ifyou haven't been listening to
this podcast since day one, which I'm sure most of you
haven't because we've beenaround since 2020, today's your
day to play what I like to callMath Therapy Roulette.
I want you to go to your podcastapp or maththerapypodcast.com or
wherever you're listening to meright now, and I want you to do

(03:54):
that thing where you scroll likeyou're, like, spinning a wheel.
Like, you flick your finger overthe screen or your cursor or
whatever and let it ride, andthen just hit play on the first
episode you see when your screenslows to a stop.
Like, the first one you see thatyou have not listened to.
As I said, we've been podcastingsince 2020.
There are some deep cuts thatI'm sure you haven't heard.
Like, go through seasons onethrough three and pick something

(04:18):
from there.
Today's your day to find someserious gems, like a treasure
hunt, and then I want you totext me by hitting the link in
your show notes and tell mewhich one you listened to,
because I'm already dying toknow.
Okay, I'm gonna wrap this upbecause the whole point was to,
like, make this short becauseit's not an actual episode, but
somehow you've been listening tosix minutes of me telling you
why this is not an actualepisode, but why you're still

(04:39):
listening to me anyways.
So all that to say, enjoy therest of your summer.
If you're already back toschool, get in there, crush it.
I cannot wait to hear from you,and we'll be back in your feed
soon with more Math Therapy.
Thank you guys for being sounderstanding, and I hope you
are also engaging in whateveract of self-care you need right
now to get you through the week.
