(00:00):
Some of you were big butt hurtabout this.
Look at President Snoopy up onthe roof, just doing regular 79 year
old man stuff.
But if this were dementia Joe,I'd say look at old dementia Joe.
82 years old, decrepit, up onthe housetop, click, click, click.
Somebody check on it becausehe's sick, sick, sick with dementia.
(00:23):
But since it's Trump, look at him.
You seen him, he was strong asa bull, 79 years young.
The Secret Service didn't evenknow he was up there.
He just, he gave him the oldokie doke.
He's like a toddler.
You can't turn your back on itfor 30 seconds because then they
seen the plaster start fallingfrom the ceiling.
They said, oh, damn, where's potus?
He's just up there owning youlibs and you can't handle it.
(00:47):
You lib said the presidentshouldn't be on the roof.
That's too much power for one man.
And he said, you go ahead andwatch me.
Even the fake news media, theysaid, president Snoopy, what are
you doing up on the roof?
And he said, owning the libs.
He just plotting and scheming.
Everybody's playing checkersand he's just playing 34 double D
(01:08):
chess.
Just really big Sydney Sweeney chest.
Welcome to mucu.
I'm David Wheeler, co founderand president of American Muckrakers
and your host for this ridewhere we dig deep into the mud and
a little bit of muck.
But I don't do it alone.
(01:29):
Sitting alongside me is my cohost and co founder and frankly,
the guide you want in afoxhole when the fight gets dirty.
He's a retired Air Forcecolonel, former chief prosecutor
at Guantanamo Bay, and one ofthe sharpest voices for justice out
there.
Please welcome my friend andco pilot here at MUC U, Colonel Mo
Davis.
Hey.
Well, thanks, David.
And welcome back, everybody.
(01:50):
It's good to be with you again.
And hey, David, I don't knowabout you, you're up a little higher
altitude or the leavesstarting to turn up your way.
Yeah, yeah.
So it's starting to get.
Starting to get a little follyup here.
Yeah.
Well, hopefully last year wekind of missed leaf season thanks
to hurricane Helene.
So hopefully this year we'llhave a better one.
(02:12):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, it was a very short leafseason because they all got blown
up.
Yeah.
So down with all the trees.
Yeah.
Odds are good it'll be betterthan last year.
I hope so.
Yeah.
Well, anyway, welcome back toanother episode of Muck you.
And tonight we got BrentTerhune on, who is actually, we're
talking for coming on the air.
It was in Asheville rightbefore the hurricane, so.
(02:34):
Hey, Brent, thanks so much fortaking time out and joining us tonight.
Hello, guys.
Thank you for having me on the program.
Well, it's a pleasure.
Hey, listen, I've, if folkshaven't, you know, googled you and
gone out and watched some ofyour videos, they need to do that.
I, I, over the last couple ofdays, I've watched a number of them
and, you know, I saw a coupleof things where you said you're like
(02:57):
if Stephen Colbert was maga.
So I'm just wondering, is hesued you yet for stealing his, his
bit or how things going withStephen Colbert?
No, I think, I think he's gota lot going on with his, with his
show right now.
But my, my intention was to,to so, to fill people in.
I'm, I'm a standup comedianand I do a satirical character that
(03:21):
I've called Alpha Male.
He's a truck rant guy.
So anytime you've ever seenanybody rant in their car, especially
about politics, that is that character.
And when I started thecharacter, my first video was burning
Nikes and in my backyard whilewearing Nikes.
An important thing to note.
(03:42):
And then the care.
I never intended the characterto be anything but man, is there
no shortage of news?
There's no shortage of that guy.
And, yeah, it just kind ofevolved from there.
It was never a thing that Iset out to make, like a regular thing
that I do.
But here we are, I don't know, five or six years later.
(04:03):
So I'm betting you're, you'rehoping for a third term.
No, I don't want any.
People are like, oh, I bet youwere glad that he won.
Not really.
I can be funny in other ways.
So I wish I didn't have allthe stuff to talk about.
Yeah.
Hey, well, listen, here's mybig question is, I mean, you're the,
(04:24):
the character you do, which isreally quite funny.
Thank you.
Yeah.
A redneck.
But you're from Indiana, sohow did you learn to be a redneck
in Indiana?
Well, you know, I've traveledall over the country for about 20
years doing standup, andthere, there's no lack of redneck
(04:44):
everywhere.
That guy is everywhere.
But also, you know, I live inIndiana and, you know, we, we also,
instead of wash, my grandmaalways said war.
Yeah.
So, like that.
I, I know these people.
You know, I live amongst them.
There's, you know, you drivearound the neighborhood that I live
(05:05):
in, and there's no lack ofMAGA flags.
There's no lack of that guy around.
So I've, I've met that guyseveral times.
And you, you know, you, youmeet enough people and you make.
It's an amalgamation of people.
But also, there's no.
I have, you know, there.
I have playlist of people thatI watch regularly that do what I
(05:27):
do.
But seriously, because I haveto parody what they are already doing,
you know.
All right.
Well, certainly, you know,David and I are well acquainted with
the, you know, the type ofpeople you, you play in your.
When you're.
You're in.
In, you know, doing your, your thing.
But, you know, it's.
(05:49):
Did you ever think, I mean, ifyou go back and, I mean, you've been
in Stand up before, you know,Trump really burst onto the scene.
Yeah.
You ever imagine back thenthat you'd be doing what you're doing
now?
No, because I, you know, firstand foremost, I, whatever I, I try
to do, I try to make it funnyfirst and foremost, and then go from
(06:10):
there.
But I've, I was never andstill am not really one who, like,
has got to.
Got to be all up to date onpolitics, you know, that somebody
said if, if you are not intopolitics, politics will be into you.
And I, I am a firm believer inthat now.
But I've never, I never reallycared about politics really, until
(06:32):
the last few years.
And I do.
But also I, I tried to notconsume as much of that stuff because
I think when you watch thenews, it just should just be called
the bad news.
I don't know that it's goodfor the spirit to be that plugged
in, even though you should be.
It's a, It's a weird.
Was it a catch 22 type thing, the damned if you do, damned if you
(06:55):
don't type thing?
Yeah.
Well, listen, I, I see whereyou've weighed in on some of the
current hot topics, like youmight want to share with our, our
listeners your, Your take on Bad.
Bad Bunny.
Yeah, yeah.
Being the halftime show at thesuper bowl this year.
Well, and if you've, you know, watched any reactions, the last.
(07:19):
I don't know who it was.
There was the weekend therewas Beyonce and Shakira, then it
was Kendrick Lamar, and Ithink I'm missing a few in there.
Usher maybe, but there, it's, it's.
It's outrage.
And I will, you know, say fakeoutrage of anybody, whoever they
announce.
I said in the, in the videothat I just did.
About Bad Bunny, of course, mycharacter is not pleased that Bad
(07:41):
Bunny is the, is the halftime show.
But I, A line that I thoughtof a few weeks ago and I threw in
this video, but the charactersays, alpha male says, I'm not happy
unless I'm mad.
And that is, I think a, youknow, I'll pat myself on the back,
I think is a nice summary of alot of the MAGA people.
(08:02):
And it's a, it's a reflectionof where we are in the media, of
all the, you know, theinfluences, air quotes of the, the
MAGA people.
They got to be mad aboutsomething today and they'll have
to be mad about something tomorrow.
It's, it's kind of likethere's a new hot topic every few
days.
And of course they're gonna,if everybody likes it, they're gonna
(08:22):
dislike it, of course, youknow, so.
And you know, for Bad Bunny tobe a Puerto Rican, a not white person,
people are gonna be mad aboutthat, of course.
And the fact that he sings andin anything other than the language
that they barely have a graspon is another thing that they will
be mad at.
So of course, my thing is evenwhen something good happens for the
(08:47):
character, he still has tofind a way to complain about it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I always thought that was theMAGA mantra, was we're not happy
until you're not happy.
And then.
Yeah, misery loves company.
Yeah, listen, you get way backwith the NFL.
I mean, that's from your early days.
So, yeah, it's the gift thatkeeps on giving.
(09:09):
It's, you know, and it's, it's the.
Also the same type of peoplethat are, they're going to say they're
boycotting the NFL this year.
Well, they've been boycottingit for nine years.
What, Since Colin Kaepernicktook a knee.
And then, you know, nowthey're, they will chime in every
year on something thathappened in the NFL.
But when.
If you're like, well, Ithought you guys 10 years ago said
(09:31):
you weren't going to tune in anyway.
It's just outrage culture forclicks and stuff like that, which
is, that's what the character is.
But also it's like, I don'tknow how you guys feel, but like
it's the news cycle is even a24 hour news cycle.
It's not that anymore.
It's 12, it's 8.
We get a new thing thathappens every other day and it's
(09:52):
all too much to consume.
And it all, it's all a lot ofit based on being mad about something
that happened in the culture, so.
Well, back to your point.
I've been commenting on theNFL for a while.
I've also.
The characters also said he'snot watching unless it's Monday,
Thursday, Sunday, and Sundayand Saturday during the playoffs.
(10:14):
But other than that, he's donewith the NFL.
Exactly.
Exactly.
Yeah.
They sometimes talk overthemselves in a way that's unbelievable.
So, Brent, how many peoplecome to your shows thinking they're
going to get that guy and theyrealize that he's not the truck guy?
(10:35):
I've never had anybody come.
Come and think that I was.
My character was genuine.
Right.
Because.
And if they have, they'venever come up to me because they'd
probably embarrass, be embarrassed.
But I do get a lot of peoplethat will say, I played it for my
dad, I played it for my uncleor whoever, and he thought it was
really funny and still didn't understand.
(10:56):
Like, they'll be like, myuncle shares your videos without
understanding what's going on.
But I do get people that.
That show up and think that, you know, they know the character
is a joke, but they're alsounaware that I have been doing Stand
up forever, which I do.
The character in my show atthe end.
Because if Radiohead didn'tplay creep, you'd be like, well,
that was a good show, but theydidn't play my song, you know?
(11:18):
Yeah.
So I. I know why you're thereif you're coming to my show, but
I. I don't know that anybody'sever come and been like, well, I.
I've been hoodwinked.
And if they have, they.
They didn't let me know about it.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, I. I heard a little bitof the character there when you threw
out.
Hoodwinked.
I've been bamboozled.
I. I love a.
(11:39):
The redneck will.
Will have just.
I. I say the rednecks.
Well, they always.
You know, everybody thinksrednecks are dumb, and sometimes
that's true.
But then also they'll have a$115 word they throw in there that'll
throw you off.
You know, they'll.
They'll throw in adiscombobulated, you know, or a caddy
wampus, and you're like, I don't.
(11:59):
I don't know.
You heard that somewhere, andthat's become part of your vernacular.
Exactly.
All right, well, we're withBrett Terrhoon here.
And Brett, tell folks wherethey can learn about you and where
they can, more importantly, listen to your.
Or go see you at your next show.
Yeah, my.
My website and everythingtrickles down from brentcomedy.com
(12:21):
I have all the links to all mysocial media stuff, and I'm on tour
all the time.
It's, you know, people big.
I just announced the new tour.
Well, I've been a roadcomedian for a while, so us roadie
guys tend to just constantlybe on tour.
So brentcomedy.com is.
Is where you can find all mydates upcoming on.
I don't know when this will beout, but 10 4, good buddy.
(12:44):
October 4th, I'll be inChicago and then I'll be in Cincinnati,
October 18, Los Angeles, 1023.
And then where else?
I'm looking at my own website,Duluth, Minnesota, November 15th.
And you know, I have moredates to come as well out into 2026.
(13:05):
But BrentComedy.com is whereyou can find me.
And on all my social mediastuff, I post all my dates there
too.
Okay, great.
Well, we'll.
We'll get this out actuallyright away in time for the Chicago
show.
Being a former Chicagoan, I'mgonna make sure all my friends and
family over there know what.
What's that?
Your show is going to be in town.
(13:27):
But where is it going to be in Chicago?
It's a.
It's a place called Comedy Plex.
Okay.
And let me.
I'm giving that a Googlebecause I don't remember the neighborhood.
All right, well, it is an OakPark, Illinois.
Okay.
Yeah, Yeah.
A little bit west of the city and.
Yeah, great.
Perfect.
Perfect location for you.
So tell.
Tell us a little bit moreabout yourself, Brett.
(13:48):
You're from Indy.
You grow up there, you have afamily, kids.
What's the deal?
Grew up in Indianapolis.
I'm from here.
Still live here.
Married guy, married with cats.
So, guys, it's what, a what?
Cat.
Just chaos over here.
I don't have children, so I. Ifeel weird saying I've married with
cats because then it.
(14:09):
It puts cats up there withchildren, and I know that those are
different animals to.
Yeah.
Have you seen that show don'twith cats?
I have not, because I. I heardit's kind of brutal with cats, right?
Is it brutal?
Well, there's one.
There's a documentary aboutsome guy started messing with cats
and he ended up getting killedby somebody.
(14:31):
So.
Well, that I, if anything, Ihave the scratches to prove that.
You don't with cats.
Yeah, exactly.
But been.
Been married for a littlewhile and.
Yeah, I grew up inIndianapolis and I also.
Another Thing that I, this isa big passion of mine is I, I host
a horror movie podcast.
(14:51):
So this month, October 1st, aswe're recording this as prime time
for us.
But the show is called they'recoming to get you.
Like from Night of the LivingDead when he says they're coming
to get you, Barbara.
But yeah, I, I, we turned theyou guys when we first talked.
You could probably see behindme is I'm a big toy collector and
(15:13):
memorabilia type guy.
I love art from local artistsand stuff.
So this room that I'mcurrently sitting in is full of toys
and all kinds of horror stuff mostly.
And that's a thing I do on theroad is I do my shows, but then I
have my spots that I like tohit up wherever I go.
Yeah, that's cool, man.
That's cool.
And your wife travel with yousometimes, I hope.
(15:34):
Yeah.
I take her to all the nice places.
I've taken her to Omaha andSyracuse, New York.
Now I've taken nice places, but not to say that those places
aren't nice, but she, she'sseen the big cities, so sometimes
we go to those hidden gems.
We're big fans of Louisville, Kentucky.
There's a lot of, oh, that's agreat town.
Yeah, we love antique mallsand all that stuff.
(15:56):
So we're not, you know, we'renot unique and loving all that kind
of stuff.
But she, she goes on the roadwith me and a good sense of humor
and, uh, she's very big intoHalloween type stuff too.
We had a Halloween wedding, sothat's where we're at.
That's awesome.
That's cool.
Well, you're.
One of the, one of the mostfunny things that ever happened to
(16:16):
you was, I think it was duringthe last campaign when Trump was
driving the garbage truck.
Somebody mistaked you for thatguy who was with him.
Tell us a little bit aboutthat and how it rolled out in your
world.
It's my most viral video, Ithink at 9 million views.
(16:37):
Holy crap.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Which.
My first one, I think, or I did.
My first one ever was Burning Nikes.
And I think I did it a yearlater when Kaepernick did a Nike
had a Nike thing contract.
So I did it again and that oneended up being my most viral one
for a while, I think at 8 million.
(16:58):
But I, there was a picture of.
Is it, is it, uh, what's theguy's name?
Vivek, I think.
Yeah.
Ramaswami Y. Yeah.
So there was a picture of himin a garbage truck, I think it's
separate locations.
And the guy he was with in thetruck is a doppel ginger of mine.
(17:19):
I'm a, I'm a redhead guy.
There's no lack of people thatlook like me.
One of my jokes in my act is Ilook like I would be on the COVID
Storm the Capital magazine, you know, so there's, there's no
lack of people that look like me.
Yeah.
So even, like, my wife willsee pictures of other people that
(17:40):
look like me.
And one time we found thisguy, and she's like, where?
When did you take this picture?
Because somebody sent it to her.
And I was like, I don't remember.
And I was like, wait, that'snot even me.
So we found the guy online andhe looks exactly like me.
So this guy that was in thegarbage truck looked exactly like
me.
And I get people that send mepictures that look like me all the
(18:03):
time.
Especially.
Who's the guy that, does heplay for the Dodgers?
Justin Turner?
I, I think he's placed for the Dodger.
I don't remember either way,any red bearded people.
They always send me and Ialways repost.
Quit sending me this.
So that's like an inside joke.
Yeah, I've seen that.
I've seen that.
That's pretty funny, though.
(18:24):
And then Robin Swami, like, retweeted it, like you were some
major Trump supporter or something.
Yeah, well, the big one, because I, I made a video saying
it was an honor to ride in, inthe truck with Trump, of course,
that that guy was never in aphoto with Trump, but it's the Internet,
so people believe it.
And I, I, I was up early.
(18:45):
I, I'm an a night owl, so I'dbeen up all night.
I did the video pretty earlyin the morning, and I took a nap
and I woke up.
So I posted it, took a nap, woke up, and I had 2 million views
in just a couple hours.
And it's, it's weird to say itnow, giving the events of the past
few weeks, but the guy that, that initially started people retweeting
(19:07):
it was Charlie Kirk, whoeventually deleted the tweet because
he was like, this is beautiful.
This guy was pledged tosupport to President Trump.
And I, I of course, called itGarbage Force One.
That was trending for a whilebecause a previous video I had done
was I said my boat sank inLake Travis.
(19:29):
There was that the big thingof people in Texas had their, their
MAGA boats with all the flags, and a few of them sank.
So I said my boat sinking likeTravis, and I Called that the SS
Magaritaville.
I find if you, like, namesomething kind of like punny people
really attached to that.
So, of course I drove GarbageForce One, and that kind of blew
(19:54):
up across all social media stuff.
It was.
It was really crazy.
Yeah, it was really good.
Brett and I, with yourpermission, I think we'll splice
it into this conversation, ifthat's okay.
Yeah.
So.
And I'll point out if you.
If you do cut that audio inthat one is.
I. I intentionally didn'twrite any real jokes for that.
(20:15):
The.
The humor is in there, but Ididn't have any puns.
I didn't say what on flat earth.
I didn't say I digest any kindof, like, clues to let you know that
that is a satirical video.
Or your co. Or your Covidcough, Brent.
The COVID cough that I had foreight years.
(20:36):
God, that was funny.
That was so funny, man.
All right, over to you.
Over to you, Mo.
Take it, man.
Well, David, hey, you know,it's pretty funny because we had
Congressman Jack Kimball on awhile back.
I don't know if you'refamiliar with Jack, but, you know,
it's a fictional characterthat kind of does a similar thing
to what you're doing, wherehe'll take a piece of news and post
(20:58):
some about it, butoccasionally gets picked up by the
mainstream media who thinkshe's really a congressman and he's
not.
So.
Yeah, it's amazing how peoplejust are looking for something that
supports their narrative andare happy to jump on it without verifying
lying.
That is legit.
Yeah.
What is that?
Confirmation bias is what.
(21:18):
What.
What the term is, I guess.
But people.
And even that guy, when hewill tweet to me, I don't know who
the.
Who he is or, like, there'sanother account.
Liam Nissan.
Not Nissan, but Nissan.
Yeah.
So, like, when you just see people.
Oh, it's.
It's.
You know, he's a congressman.
He's got to be legit.
(21:39):
But, you know, we've never hadmore access to information in our
lives, and we don't use it.
Yeah, the same with my videosor anybody but that, you know, when
you just post something.
I've posted stuff as a jokewith breaking, blah, blah, blah.
And I.
You know, I like to think thatit was a joke, but then you get people
(22:00):
that are serious, and I'mlike, I don't.
There has to be some kind ofsarcasm font.
I'm not the first to say that, but it's.
It's easy to get duped.
On the Internet.
But part of it is our ownfault because we don't do any further
research.
Yep.
Hey, well, listen, I know you.
You were down here inAsheville back before the hurricane
and you didn't say whether youbrought your wife.
So I don't know where we rankon the, on the scale there, but if
(22:24):
you come back, we actuallyhave, not far from here, the American
Museum of the House Cat.
An entire museum devoted tohouse cats.
I didn't know that.
That's.
That's got to be on your listwhen you come back down here to the
mountains.
It is because I, We.
We are both.
My wife and I are both fans of.
(22:45):
Of Asheville.
We love the smell of Pachuliin the air and drum circles.
No, I say that you listen.
You got it, man.
You got it down.
Yeah, that's.
We love the town.
And yeah, I, I want to hit up the.
That museum.
There's.
I've been to some.
Some odd places on the road.
(23:05):
I just, I was in Branson, which they had a Trump store, which
we can talk about if you wantto, but two Trump stores actually.
But I went to the world'slargest toy museum and I just love
kind of a niche thing whereyou can.
You see somebody's like hyperfocus interest on display.
I love that.
(23:27):
Yeah.
Hey, does your wife understand?
Because I saw one of your.
Your clips where you said youhope your wife and kids don't find
out, but the greatest thingever happened in your life is Cracker
Barrel went back.
Does she ever question whetheryou're in character or being honest
on some of these things?
She'll see me in the.
(23:47):
Because I back in the day, like, you know, three pre covered
or it.
I used to really get into thegimmick, the character I'd have.
You know, I would find thesebootleg Trump hats or shirts.
There was one that had Trumpwith a. Ripping open a suit jacket
with a Superman logo underneath.
And she would see me in thatand she'd be like, I've never been
(24:10):
drier in my life.
You.
That is such a turn off to me.
So she's never been.
She's never questioned whetherI'm in character.
And it is a weird, you know,I'm a guy who makes videos on the
Internet.
So I'll just be like, I'mgonna go make a video and then go
do it.
And then she'll like, see whatI did later.
And she's like, jesus Christ,I didn't know you were doing all
(24:31):
that in the car.
So It.
It is a weird thing, but she'sdefinitely in on the joke.
And we.
We have similar likes anddislikes, which I think is great
for a marriage.
So.
So what is your real take onCracker Barrel?
I think just with the.
Are you.
You mean the logo change specifically?
Yeah, I mean, that just.
(24:51):
That was, like, top of thenews for.
It was.
And it's weird to think, youknow, that it feels so long ago,
but it.
What was a month, two months ago.
I feel like them changing thelogo was dumb because it wasn't.
A lot of people's motto is ifit ain't broke, fix it.
That's a Big Apple slogan.
If it ain't broke, fix it.
But, yeah, I feel like tochange that logo was stupid because
(25:15):
we're not going to thatrestaurant for anything other than
like, the Southern homecooking or the.
The train whistle that you canbuy in the lobby to make it modern.
That's not why we're going tothat place.
You know, I go for the littlepeg thing with the golf tees.
Yep.
Yeah.
Which I keep going backbecause one.
(25:35):
Day I'm gonna master that sonof a.
And get it.
You know, there was a timewhen I was a kid, I had the.
My aunt bought me all thoselittle games and I knew every move
to get it down to one, and nowI've forgotten.
So I think I've just gottendumber the older I've gotten.
Well, I wish I could tell youit gets better as it goes on, but
(25:56):
I don't want to lie to you.
It gets worse.
I know I can.
I'm.
I just turned 36 and I'm like,I'm tired for no reason, and I'm.
I'm still fairly young, soI'll just wait.
I've become a big fan of theafternoon nap.
Well, I'm way ahead of you, man.
We have similar interests.
I didn't know that.
Yeah.
(26:16):
Hey, well, listen, I'm curious.
I saw your.
Your clip.
You know, we had.
We had Elon's dad on a whileback here.
Is it.
Was it Errol?
Is that the guy's name?
Yep.
Errol.
He was, you know, quite acharacter, and he's been in the news
here lately.
But I saw your video whereyour conundrum over the two daddies
(26:37):
and who you're going to spendChristmas with, because we're.
We're in October now, soChristmas is just around the corner.
So is.
Yeah.
Is it going to be Elon orgoing to the White House and seeing
Trump?
Probably Elon at least becausehe's a richer.
So I might get a dirt bike outof the deal.
But yeah, the.
When they broke up fight, youknow, no to no one's surprise when
(26:58):
they imploded and Elon said,oh, by the way, Trump is in the Epstein
files, which, you know, just aweek or two ago they were seen shaking
hands and, and buddy, buddy.
But it's.
All this Epstein stuff hasblown up since then because of Elon.
But I, Elon is an interestingguy to.
(27:19):
I don't know how you can not be.
I don't know how you can beboring and be the richest man in
the world.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
So I, I would, I don't knowhow you guys feel, whose house you'd
go to for Christmas.
This is a crazy topic, by theway, but I would go to Elon's house,
even though I think they'reboth kind of an.
(27:41):
Yeah, yeah.
You know, we had Errol on.
I told him that what motivatesElon, because if I had any, a fraction
of that money, I'd be in theBahamas with my feet up, you know,
not trying to go to Mars.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, if you guys never seeme again, it's because I got rich
somehow.
And I, I have no desire to befamous, even though I do the things
(28:06):
I do.
I, I pursue.
Funny is what I like to pursue.
And to get people to come tomy shows, you have to post on the
Internet.
But I have no desire to be famous.
Rich is fine, but not famous.
Yeah, I know what you mean.
Well, it's interesting nowbecause we're, we're in day one of
(28:26):
the government shutdown.
And it's like everything elsewith Trump, you can go back, you
know, if you look back in thearchives, you can find him saying
something that totallycontradicts what he says today.
So if you go back to 2013,when Trump was, you know, before
he really got into politics,he said, and I quote, a shutdown
means the President is weak.
(28:49):
He's not saying that today.
He says, no, it's theDemocrats fault, even though the
Republicans control the, theSupreme Court, the White House, the
Senate and the House.
But just a few years ago, hesaid that meant the President's weakness.
Yeah, it's, you know, some,Somebody says it, but there's a,
There's a tweet for everything.
(29:09):
So if, you know, you can findthe contradiction back and forth.
There's something for everything.
And of course, he never takesresponsibility for anything.
You never said you Never heardhim say, oh, my bad, my fault.
I apologize.
It's never that.
It's always somebody else'sfault, which is, you know, the quality
(29:33):
of a great leader.
Right, guys?
Yep.
Absolutely.
God, I wish I could live mylife that way.
Yeah, I know.
Well, you could.
You just wouldn't have anyreal friends.
I'm not sure I do anyway,other than.
Other than my dog, so.
Yeah, anyway.
So.
So, Brent, if, you know, youtalked about Christmas with other
(29:55):
Elon or with Don Old, wouldyou rather have.
Assuming you weren't marriedto the.
Your lovely wife, would yourather have a date with Jill Biden
or Melania?
Probably neither.
They neither seem interestingto me at all.
(30:16):
Okay.
Michelle Obama or Michelle.
I don't know who you're gonnaname Mrs. Bush.
It's.
It's Michelle for sure.
So no questions asked.
It's got to be Michelle.
All right, so tell us about.
I love doing this to folks.
(30:36):
Tell us about your worst showand your.
And your best show.
I, you know, worst shows, forme, it's not fun and interesting
if I say this, but here is thetrue answer.
Then I'll tell you anotheranswer which is funnier and better.
The worst shows is when I am.
I lack focus and I am amillion miles away in my head, some
(30:57):
of the jokes I've done and I.I can perform in my sleep and I'll
be a million miles away andit'll be little mistakes.
Nobody will notice but me.
That's the not fun answer.
The worst shows I've done, Idid a show at a prison in Kentucky
at.
In LaGrange, Kentucky, at theLuther Luckett Correctional Facility.
(31:18):
Wow.
Inmate or outsider, as aJohnny Cash impersonator.
No.
You get the offer to do thegig, of course, as a doing stand
up, and you say yes.
I was young in my career.
So here's how a normal showgoes is you have a host, feature
(31:40):
comic, and a headliner.
I was the host.
You go out cold, you warm theaudience up, and then you bring up
the other two comics in that order.
So I was that host.
And I.
You get asked and you said, yes, that sounds great.
Johnny Cash did a prison.
They loved him.
But what you.
Nobody takes intoconsideration until you're standing
mid court at the basketballcourt performing is Johnny Cash was
(32:03):
already Johnny Cash.
I was Brent Trahune and I'mbarely Brent.
True.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, people know who I am,but if somebody said, I never heard
of that guy, you're also correct.
You know, so we.
We take the gig.
And we pull up and they said, all right, guys, you can't have any
phones.
You can't have any.
Any.
(32:24):
I think I only had my keys, really, for my car.
So we all walk up at the sametime and we go through security.
And the.
This lady that was in chargeof us greets us at the door, and
we shake hands with like, Ithink I, you know, I'm right handed.
I shake with my right hand, she offers her left.
And then as the day goes on,you realize her right hand only has
(32:48):
the pinky on it.
She's missing fingers.
And then, you know, you.
Your.
Your brain can't help youcan't help but think, well, that
happened here.
That's what's gonna happen tome, you know?
So she only had a walkie talkie.
No like mace or like anightstick baton.
(33:09):
And then we're walking throughthe yard to get to the, to the gym
area.
And they all know we'recoming, and they're just coming up
to us that the inmates, andthey're like, are you guys gonna
be funny?
And we're like, I guess wehope we're gonna try because they're
all just out.
And, you know, like, that'sthe thing that's going on in the
prison.
(33:29):
And then you realize howquickly you are in somebody else's
home.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, yeah, you better mindyour P's and Q's, because there's
a reason these guys are locked up.
And I, I need to go back andresearch the Luther Luckett Correctional
Facility because I don't knowwhat kind of criminals are there.
I imagine not super hardcoreones, because why would they give
(33:50):
them a comedy show?
But I go up, I'm.
So we're standing.
There's like 300 prisoners inthe middle of the.
The gym.
They're all on one side.
And we're standing centercourt of the basketball court with
like a Radio Shack mic setup.
It's a terrible mic setup.
And I start and it's.
I'm getting nothing.
(34:11):
There are people that are justgetting off, like, the road duty,
wearing, like, the reflective vest.
There are no shirts.
There are shirts.
And then people are getting upto leave during my set, which is.
I don't know if.
I don't know if you guys haveever had that before, but these guys
are literally going into a pr.
Going back to prison, thenwatch my show.
(34:33):
That's how bad this was going.
And I, I land my last joke, which it was a.
It was a good joke.
A solid joke to end on.
And then I ended up gettingyou stupid, which is a compliment.
So I closed strong and therest of the show is, is fine.
But it's clearly like theseguys are getting up to leave, to
(34:56):
go back to prison.
Like they don't get anything,but they're like, I, I'd rather just
go sit in jail, you know.
So I don't know if you, if yousaw the, the meeting yesterday with
the president and all thegenerals and.
I didn't, but I heard it wasvery quiet.
It was.
(35:16):
And that's, you know, the military.
I'm retired military guy.
We're apolitical or non political.
And they were just, and youcould see it just sucked the energy
out of the president becausehe's used to those raucous crowds
and having this big audienceof 800 people just sitting there
stone faced and silent.
To me that's like the worstshow is when the audience, I've done
(35:38):
those.
Gigs, they're called corporate gigs.
And you perform for a companythat didn't like one person hired
you.
Because I, I can work cleanand I do a lot of those where one
person thought it would be funto have comedy and they, they hired
you.
But really this is aconference all day long and I'm the
(36:00):
extra hour that they have tostay at the conference.
I always open with.
I'm a really funny waitingroom if you give me a chance.
Because you're performing andnobody has anything invested in it
but you.
And sometimes that is likepulling teeth.
So I, I, the stuff I read andmy wife told me that Trump up there
trying to, you know, get his, whip his audience into a frenzy.
(36:23):
It's.
Nobody wanted that becausethey're not there for that.
That's a hard show.
So yeah, I think it was Nate Bargets.
He was saying that he did youtalking about corporate shows.
He got paid a bunch of moneyto do a corporate show and the audience
just was not reacting.
Yeah.
Afterwards he told the, youknow, the, the guy that owned the
company, the CEO, said man,I'm really sorry.
(36:45):
So I'm, you know, I'm notgonna take your money because.
And the guy said, well, it'snot your fault because, you know,
90 of my employees don't speak English.
Yeah, I've, I've had, I didsome zoom ones where it's like, oh
yeah, half of the Pete.
This is literally worldwide.
So the people in these zoomwindows don't understand a thing
(37:05):
you're saying.
And that's that it was, I'msure Nate was, wasn't lying when
he said it was a bunch of money.
And somebody told me early onin my career is they pay a bunch
of money because most of them suck.
So you are trading part ofyour soul for, you know, four figures
and you're like, that's fine.
This is what this will be.
Nobody's doing these corporategigs for the passion, I'll say that
(37:27):
much.
Thank you.
Well, listen, Brent, one ofthe things we do talk about.
We haven't talked about it onthe show lately, Mo, but what's,
what's your favorite libation?
I assume since you're workingclubs, you've got a favorite drink.
You know, I'm not, I've prettymuch don't drink ever at a comedy
(37:48):
club, which I'm, I think I'mthe outlier.
But I'm also at work if Idon't want to get sloppy drunk and
then lose my job, you know, but.
Right.
I do love justice.
Go ahead.
Never.
You'll never be Secretary ofDefense then.
I know if I, if I want asecretary of war, you mean.
Oh, I'm sorry.
I'm gonna need to.
(38:08):
I think you have to blow a0.08 to even be sworn into that job
to get in the building.
Yeah.
They have a two drink minimum.
That's crazy.
At the Secretary of Defense atthe Pentagon.
But yeah, I, I do enjoy a screwdriver.
Pretty simple.
Or just last night I had someapple pie, moonshine and some apple
(38:30):
cider because.
Tis the season.
That's right.
Any bourbon?
Yeah.
You're a bourbon guy or.
I did.
I've had bourbon, but I, I,it's lost on me.
I've had it because I have abunch of friends in like Lexington
and Frankfurt, Kentucky, andthat's bourbon.
You know, I just don't understand.
It doesn't taste good to me.
(38:51):
But are you a bourbon guy?
Well, Mo is okay.
Loves the bourbon.
I'm a scotch guy.
I still, I still, I still likeyou, Brent.
That's okay.
I'll, I'll still choke downwhatever will you serve in me when
I come see you in Asheville?
Well, here's where the beer capital.
So it's okay if you're a beer guy.
This is, this is close toheaven as you're going to get.
(39:13):
Yeah, it's, it's one of those.
I'm not never been a big superdrinker and a lot of people are in
comedy, which is, it makes forgreat stories.
I'm like, I wish I drank.
I'd have your stories, but I don't.
Yeah.
Cool.
All right, well, Brent, you'vebeen very generous with your time
