(00:10):
What does the nanny do?
OK, so we're done.
Goodbye.
You.
Shut it off.
Do not twist my words.
Do not make me a victim,
sweetie.
Just look at the mountain.
That's what you saw that day.
Just the knife in the kidneys
over all these years and the
sacrifices that I made to love
you.
(00:48):
I'm going to let you in on a
little secret.
Robyn's Secret Season 6 Episode 6 A Tale is old as time song is
old as rhyme.
Robyn's secret episode.
It's Robyn's secret, everyone.
The episode you've all been
(01:08):
waiting for, where we get a
lovely speech from Robyn in the
family room at church.
We're about to get a lesson in
internalized misogyny.
Absolutely.
Ordinarily we don't talk about
the previously on or whatever's
because it's just summarizing
shit we've already talked too
much about.
But in this episode, I thought
(01:29):
it was worth pointing out
because there's new footage that
we haven't seen before, which is
interview style, where the
adults talk about needing to
figure out their new
relationships again now that
they're at the Brown family
cul-de-sac.
They're teeing up that now that
they're in the homes, they're in
this new transitionary period.
And the second part of the
coming up on was another
(01:50):
reminder about Meri's baby
decision, which we have avoided
for a little while, thank God,
but it's back.
That story's back.
It's rear in its ugly head
again.
It absolutely is.
So when the episode opens,
there's this exterior shot of
the cul-de-sac in the different homes and the music that's
playing is so modern for this
show.
(02:12):
It's the first episode where
there's this music playing and
it's like Doo, Doo, Doo, Doo,
Doo, Doo, Doo Doo.
It's the lame version of what
reality shows will be playing
today instead of the all music
that they usually would play on
the show.
That's very kind of, oh, in the
lower bottom of the free music
bin, you know, like now this is
where they maybe started paying for a royalty or something Like
(02:34):
it's, it's a whole new vibe,
which is exciting because now
we're at the Brown family
cul-de-sac.
First thing first, we're going
to bury a time capsule.
This comes out of nowhere.
We've been in the houses.
Just a little hot minute here
and got to bury a time capsule.
(02:55):
They just always have to decide to do weird shit.
Have you ever buried a time
capsule in your own yard?
No.
I feel like this is something
that you do in like elementary
school or other instances that
have to do with like an entire
city burying something or like
what?
Why are we doing this?
Yeah, it did come out of
nowhere.
(03:17):
We're going to be burying a time
capsule and it's like, OK,
cool. Yeah, you couldn't even fucking
finish your family mission statement yet and now you're
going to bury a time capsule, OK.
It totally makes sense. We go to the adults on the couch
and I think that they're trying to tie this in because
(03:39):
they start referencing what it
felt like living in the separate
homes again. And Janelle references feeling
like a single mom in the rentals.
And Robyn makes a weird comment, though that is something new.
She says it will be eye opening about the damage done over the
last two years. And we'll give them an
(04:01):
opportunity to prepare their relationships.
Like OK, I guess that's true, but the use of damage done seems
very dramatic. Yeah, assessing the damage.
I guess there's already a bunch of damage.
I mean, they have been talking about it.
It's just such a dramatic way toput it.
It is. And it's just odd to be like,
oh, Yep, we're going to build a time capsule because now we're
(04:21):
in the new homes and let's bringup again the damage that's been
done. And oh, maybe this time capsule
is something that will bring ustogether again.
But we haven't even finished ourfamily missions, David.
They try all these weird band aids all the time to get people
together and to fix things and.And not only is this time
capsule going to be buried by the Brown family this week, but
(04:43):
this week is also going to be their first Sunday service at
the new homes. So when they start this episode,
they're literally like, we're going to have our first Sunday
service and we're bearing a timecapsule.
OK, sounds good. All of which does not address
Robyn's secret that we're aware of at this point.
But don't worry, we're getting there pretty quick.
(05:03):
Yeah, back to our weird shenanigans.
Just, you know, trying to do things to bring the family
together. Weird activities.
So when we start in on the action for this episode, we're
beginning at Meri's house, and Kody says Church at the Rentals
was challenging. We get a outside clip of
everybody walking over to Meri'shouse.
(05:24):
Kody has this whole spiel about putting their phones away.
No phones in church. Everybody put your phones away.
Put social media down.
The pulpit is in front of Meri's
crooked mantle.
Just have to point that out.
While everyone is gathering in
(05:46):
Meri's family room, Kody has a
voiceover where he talks about
how when they moved to Las
Vegas, he was under the
impression that people from
their faith would be visiting on
a monthly basis, or at least
driving through town on their
way somewhere else.
And they'd stop over and they
would be able to have their
community gathering of fellow
believers in the cult on a
monthly basis.
(06:07):
And I'm going what?
Who thinks that you're going to
be able to have church on a
monthly basis because people are
just going to periodically
visit?
Consistent really enough where
you would be able to have
monthly services with visitors.
It's like, did you ever do anything about that?
Like, do you ever call anyone other than the weird people you
had on the show that we met? Yeah, he thought that they would
have some sort of community. Did you put something out on
(06:29):
Facebook? Please come to the church at my
home once a month. Like, I don't know what he was
assuming here, but he assumed wrong.
Yes. And he talks about the Hebrews
losing their culture and compares them to the Bible and
how he's worried that the familyis losing their culture because
(06:50):
they've been away from it for so long.
And when you're away from your community, you do start to lose
the belief system of of course,he has to compare his family to
the Hebrews and the Bible and. Oh yeah, yeah.
No reference to Joseph Smith or Hiram Smith or whoever the hell
the other one was that we were supposed to talk about during
(07:13):
that episode. He just.
Picks and chooses weird parts ofthe Bible to compare his family
to. Those cool guys from the Old
Testament is coming. Right.
They show him starting this church service standing in front
of Meri's fireplace with the crooked mantle, and they
interrupt with the couch moment where he's talking about how he
needs to be more exciting because the kids are bored.
(07:33):
Church is boring for children ingeneral.
And so, you know, whatever. Then I go back to Meri's family
room and Christine is talking about something.
And I felt like we were going toget something, but we really
didn't. They just showed her talking for
like a sentence about the Bible.
Be can we get nothing?
Or something.
And then it fades out.
And then there's more voiceover
where Kody says I asked Robyn to
give a lesson about chastity
(07:56):
and about sexual purity.
And it's like, so why didn't you
just show us like 3 seconds of
Christine?
It was so weird.
I guess it was to demonstrate
that all the wives get up and
talk in front of the family.
Well, we get voice over of
Christine saying that Kody asks
each of the wives to participate
in church at different points
and come and speak their truths about things.
(08:19):
So they show Christine standing up there and talking about, I
think she's talking about
technology and unplugging from
technology because she's holding
a cord.
And so she's talking about
unplugging, I think because Kody
starts out all this by saying
like, put your phones away, no
phones in church, blah, blah,
blah.
But then that's kind of all we
get.
(08:39):
And I'm just assuming that
that's what her spiel was about
because they don't let us in on it.
And then here come the big guns.
We're bringing in Robyn to talk about chastity.
The big guns. I'm going to talk about the
biggest mistake of my life, and I'm actually pretty nervous
about it. Oh, Robyn in the biggest mistake
(09:03):
of her life and her nerves, her nerves.
So I can understand how she would be so nervous to talk
about. She's falsely tearing up doing
her fake look that she does. Yep, the fake tears.
There's several fake tears in this episode for sure.
And so then we show Robyn standing in front of Meri's
crooked fireplace mantle wearingher Sunday school teacher best
(09:24):
outfit. Oh, girl, this outfit.
A black sweater over another black shirt, potentially.
I did see, like, I don't know, above her boobies, like just
below her neck. So I thought that was a that was
a bit much. And then an ankle length purple
and yellow flower skirt. Yeah, hydrangeas.
(09:45):
Oh, hydrangeas. Yes, I love the hydrangeas.
Yes. She's holding something in her
hands as she starts her lecture. It's hard to tell what it is
because she's cupping it in front of her as if she's about
to give an offering to the entire family.
Oh, but she does offer somethingto someone.
In this moment, looking at her in her hydrangeas skirt get up
(10:09):
and the floor length or ankle length skirt and the black top
that's layered. I'm just reminded, I need to
remind you all that when we first met Robyn, she was wearing
Aeropostale. She was wearing literal clothes
(10:30):
for teenagers trying to look super young, super hip, super
young and hot. And just in with the no, in with
the young people. And then we've also seen her
wearing like a white nighty negligee tank top over long
sleeves. And obviously when you go to
(10:50):
church you dress nicer, but thenyou look around the room and
literally nobody else is dressedup.
Yeah, everyone else, Kody is. Kody is, but none of the kids
are dressed nice. A lot of the other adults aren't
dressed nice. So she is like, playing pretend
right now. Like she's standing up there in
(11:12):
this outfit that she probably had to borrow from Meri.
Like, it's just so bizarre. And we're seeing her play roles,
you know, like she wanted to be young and hot and hip and she
was literally wearing like Aeropostale, which is like
preteen teen clothing at the time of this.
And now she's trying to teach purity.
(11:34):
So she's got to dress this way. It's like she's just, so she's
something else. She's something.
We went from the juniors to the senior section, as in the senior
citizen. Section.
Seriously. Pretty quick for Robyn Sermon.
She's going to tell us two stories of girls and what
happened to them and what they did with their purity.
(11:58):
And she wants us to know that these are true stories.
Now, what's funny is after we get through these people's
stories of these two, you know, made-up women, just these two.
Oh, no, just kidding, these veryreal women.
And they're very real stories. What's funny is that one of
their stories, we get some details and we get some
(12:19):
heartbreak and we get some forgiveness and eventually
triumph and the other person we get one sentence so.
These. Stories.
It's interesting how she Tees itup about the two stories.
When you think about narrative and storytelling, you would
usually think that means you're going to go on 2 journeys.
We really only go on one journeyand then literally hear like a
sentence. And we find out it's the same
(12:40):
person. And yes, these are real stories.
These are true stories.
About two girls.
Yeah, sure.
Consider the source.
It is Robyn, so of course it's
not all true, but some of it
must be true.
But most of it is not she.
Starts off by talking about how
your purity is a great gift that
you get to give away and
(13:05):
setting up the tale talking about purity
and holding in
her hands. But we finally get a little bit
of a glimpse of a silver Locket.
A silver heart Locket that's
about the size of a palm.
Yeah, it's pretty big.
It's pretty large.
For a Locket, Robyn starts off
her tail as old as time by
(13:27):
telling us she was very chaste
as a teenager.
But then things changed.
Yes, she was kind of a good
girl, a good child.
Purity has to do with your mind
and your heart.
It's a prize valued above all
jewels, she tells everyone in
the family room.
It's so valuable, more valuable than the biggest diamond in the
(13:50):
world, Your purity.
But her body had urges.
She felt like she was missing
out on something by not
indulging in her temptations
with a boy and.
Her physical wants.
And needs.
And longings.
Her moist caramel was just
twitching.
No, just.
(14:10):
Twitching.
Caramel.
No.
Oh God.
Oh gosh.
That's wrong.
I'm sorry everyone that's wrong.
Robyn's senior year and into college, she started to question
her faith and she is just realizing her parents have
issues and their marriage isn't perfect and they're in plural
(14:33):
marriage and she's questioning the fact that she's holding out
on her physical wants. Why?
Why am I doing this? And along with those unearth
things in her life, she also realized that her parents aren't
God. And she had been so good for so
long, but it didn't seem to be getting her anywhere.
(14:54):
Which I'm going like, OK, when Ihad questionings about faith and
God and whatever, I wasn't thinking about how it wasn't
getting me anywhere. I don't quite, I don't think I
would say that it was more aboutthe concept of like a made
believe man in the sky and like people going and chanting
mindlessly and not actually changing their own lives to
align with what they say. I was questioning things like
(15:15):
that. Not like it's not really getting
me anywhere. It's not getting me what I want
out of life. So why am I doing this?
That's a very self-centered way of looking at it as opposed to
I'm questioning this because I'mcurious about life.
It's a very me, me, me centered way of thinking about it like,
well, God's not answering my prayers, so why do I pray to him
(15:38):
mommy like. Robyn coded for sure.
And Robyn tells them each of youhas a gift and it's your purity.
It's a special gift to give your
husband or wife.
And then she switches back into
the two girl story.
One girl, there was a boy who
asked her for her purity, her
purity.
(16:01):
He begged and begged for it and so she gave it away and then
this is where she throws the
Locket onto the floor.
And it clatters to the carpet
and.
It makes a clink noise and it
must have been it hitting itself
because I was like, did it hit
the coffee table?
It's like, no, it looks like
it's just on the ground.
It's on carpet.
On the carpet.
(16:22):
So why did it make a dinging
noise?
It must have gone open, close,
just like her legs when she lost
her purity.
And they pan out, you know, to
show her doing this dramatic
Locket throw.
And the kids are literally all
sitting there with their arms
crossed looking down, not even
watching her and you can tell
how awkward they feel and she's just putting on this one woman
(16:42):
show.
It's so true.
So after she says she gave it
away and she throws the Locket
onto the ground.
Actually she just kind of like
dropped it.
It sounded like a throw because
of the noise it made.
And then she says she gave away
her purity.
Like whole way to emphasize the
purity going away.
He didn't respect it and he
(17:04):
threw it on the ground.
He threw it on.
The and she says that like after
she throws the Locket.
It's almost like a afterthought,
like, oh shit, that's right.
He threw it on the ground, not
me.
What am I doing?
Oh, it's like she had a bit
planned, like, oh, I'm going to throw the Locket on the ground
and be all dramatic.
And then she threw it and
realized, oh shit, I was going
to say he's the one that threw
it away like crap.
She gives us a little insight
(17:26):
into her past on the couch.
She says that she was 19 when
she was getting rebellious and
she decided to move to Montana
and that at this time she was
really questioning her beliefs.
She says that she lowered her
standards at this time in her
life and she started dating this
kid.
(17:47):
He was her first kiss and there was only one thing that he
wanted.
Dun Dun, Dun.
And so I got pregnant, she says,
as if all of a sudden we're a
hop, skipping and jumping 10
steps, and she doesn't finish
the story.
And then I got pregnant.
Yes, there was only one thing he
wanted. 10 second pause for
(18:10):
her to look around and look up and
make it seem like are the
tears going to come?
Are the tears going to come?
The tears ain't coming, the
tears ain't coming.
And then she goes, so I got
pregnant and it's like.
Just the weirdest, yeah.
What is going on here?
And of course, these couch
moments where Robyn's talking
about this, it's only her and
Kody on the couch, and they're
(18:31):
very close.
He's staring at her.
At other times, he's staring
through her.
At other times he's got his arm around her.
It's very consoling and very
like I'm here for you, Robyn.
Like I'm just here to support
you through this story.
And we find out she got pregnant
based on this kiss, this first
kiss situation.
The first kiss and then ma'am,
(18:53):
she's pregnant.
So obviously we are talking here
about Dayton's father.
I just have to say this poor guy
gets like his name drugged
through the muds so many times.
And I just can't imagine talking
about my child's father that
way.
Because regardless of like,
let's say you get knocked up
before you fall in love with
(19:16):
your partner, there's something that happens when you scramble
your DNA with somebody that you have to have some sort of
respect for them in some sort of
way at some point.
But what if you only kissed him once and then you were
pregnant? I don't know.
I mean, that's what we're finding out here.
And so that's why my mind is so blown.
(19:36):
You know, the Virgin Robyn over here.
The Virgin Meri. Yeah.
Given her gift away, yet not wanting to fully confess what
the gift is. She can't.
Say that she had sex with him. She's not.
Give a 10 second pause and then she was pregnant.
And this is my whole issue with when people say, oh, I gave my
virginity away or I gave my purity away, like it's some sort
(19:59):
of commodity or transactional thing happening and that you're
less of a person afterwards because you gave them a piece of
yourself like yourself worth is based on this one thing and
it's implying a decrease in
your value after the action.
And I just. Cringe so hard when I hear her
(20:22):
talk shit about her kids dad because it doesn't seem like
there's any merit behind these claims.
And here she is again dragging this guy telling this story
about how oh poor woe is me. He begged and begged and begged
me and so I gave my purity to him and now I'm this victim.
(20:43):
It's like, Oh my gosh, she's trying to tell us during this
story that she's taking ownership of, of the fact that
she did this. And the whole reason she's
sharing this story is because she told God that she felt that
she needed to share this story if he would forgive her for
having done this and getting pregnant out of wedlock.
(21:04):
And it's just all so manipulative yet again because
you're saying you're taking ownership yet you're blaming
Dayton's dad, your ex-husband, saying he begged me he only
wanted this one thing from me and this horrible shitty person
and I lowered my standards for him.
And even even here it's like you're trying to own up to
(21:26):
something but you can't. So we cut back to her speaking
to the kids again after we find out that she got pragante after
a kiss. And she tells the kids that she
has spent her whole life. Oh, this girl, this girl in this
story has spent her whole lifetrying to get this back, trying
(21:47):
to get her purity back, and shecouldn't.
And she's still sad about it. And then they cut to a couch
moment where we hear from Mckelty, and Mckelty says that
the way that Robyn told this story of losing her purity was
actually really pretty. I'm like, oh, not so sure.
I'd call it pretty. All right.
(22:08):
And I was distracted because Leon is on the couch with
Mckelty and Leon is wearing a wife beater looking white tank
top under a Jean vest and those arms are exposed.
I saw shoulder. I saw arm flap.
Farmer's tan. I saw farmer's tan, I saw
teenage skin acne, and I'm like wow, Leon dressed like a sex
(22:31):
addict during this episode. Interesting choice.
Interesting choice. Interesting to say the least.
I'm not so sure that that outfitmeets Kody's purity
requirements. It's an odd choice, Mckelty
says. That this story really, really
made me not want to do anything ever.
Like they can't. They're just.
(22:54):
It's also juvenile. Made me not want to do anything
ever. So Robyn continues with her
sermon. She says that when this girl,
this made this not made-up girl, this very real girl, when she
met the man that she loves, she had to say, this boy, he took my
purity, he stole it and it wassupposed to be yours and I gave
(23:19):
it to someone else. I'm so sorry.
So this theme of stealing something, taking something,
it's something to give away. It's this commodity bit.
It's like she'll never be. She's not a whole person now.
And when you were talking about the underlying thing of this
whole story, I was thinking about how she references Dayton
(23:43):
in her couch moments, talking about the sermon and there's two
other children she had with this man.
She was with him for 9, married for 9 years, I believe when I
did the math before they were together for 10 or 11 years.
I mean, this isn't some multi month like, oh, we were together
for four months and he ruined my life.
And I've never been the same because I've just had to deal
(24:03):
with all the consequences. It's like, you were with the man
for a decade, Now people are with shitty people for a decade.
I'm not saying that that doesn't
happen, but my God, I, I just, I
don't even know.
Yeah, that's.
The math is not mapping on.
No, it's not.
And that's why I go to the like,
OK, at some point you cared
about this guy, why are you
doing this?
I have exes that I can still
(24:23):
respect and I can look back at
that point in my life and be
like that person served a
purpose in my life at that time
and I can still respect that
person even though we're not
together today.
Like not every relationship that
doesn't work out is a failure.
Like they all help you grow.
They help you become who you are
today.
It doesn't have to be some big
mistake in your life.
(24:46):
I hate when people look at a
breakup or a divorce as a
mistake because it's part of
your story.
It's you know who you are today and that person might be a
mistake in your eyes, but I
think in the grand scheme of
things, most people, even if
they regret decisions, realize
that it has made them who they
are today.
(25:08):
And every single time that her
relationship comes up and her
ex-husband, it's just like he
just gets dragged and dragged
and dragged and it's just like
she pretends she's taking
ownership but she's not.
She's blaming him for
everything.
She literally says here that she
had given her purity away to
someone else who kind of stole
it from her.
The word stole in this context
(25:30):
to me implies RAPE and I don't
appreciate it.
Yeah.
It is wildly inappropriate.
It is.
She is basically implying to all
the children in their family,
church home, church shindig
thing that they do that she was essayed by her ex-husband
(25:53):
because he talked her into
giving this piece of herself
away.
It's so messed up and it is just
going to create a complex for
all of the children in that
room.
Yeah.
Particularly your oldest,
Dayton, who I mean all of your
children.
But Dayton is a direct result of
(26:13):
your getting knocked up before
you were married.
Yeah.
To put these pieces together
that your father stole my purity
and you are a result of that
and I'm a victim and he is terrible.
That fucks with someone's mind. Like that's not OK.
Adam and Eve, she's comparing herself to like, oh, I was
tempted by the snake and I just gave in because I had to type of
(26:39):
thing and it's just too much. And I can't believe none of the
other moms were like this is semi inappropriate.
Like why are we doing this? I don't know.
We find out that they all signedoff on it, but whatever.
Yeah, we don't get a lot of cutaways to the other wives,
which I find to be interesting. There's, well, actually I saw
(26:59):
both Christine and Meri in close-ups, but both of them, I
felt like in the moment where they showed them, it wasn't even
their actual reaction. It was almost like they just had
footage and they used it and they weren't reacting in a
dramatic way. But there's a moment where Robyn
says something and they show Christine looking down as if,
oh, I can't believe it. And I'm like, I don't even think
(27:20):
that probably happened like that.
I think you just had the footageand you put it that way because
otherwise you would show us more.
It's like Christine and Meri arethere and they're listening, but
we don't see their reactions, and I think there's a reason we
don't see a lot of them. Because everyone's bored out of
their fucking gourds. There's no reactions to be had
the kids. As you said, they're looking
down, they're looking up, they're fiddling with their
shoelaces like Leon is listening.
(27:41):
Well, I'm sure some of the olderkids are probably paying a
little more attention, but some of them are not.
And the particularly the young ones are just like.
They don't even know what purityis.
They don't even know what is being.
It's all this coded language andso you can't even really put, I
mean, it's all implied in codedlanguage.
You know, she never says anything about having sex.
(28:02):
She never says anything about safe sex.
If you're going to have sex, shethere's never.
There's not really a lesson to learn here other than you're not
supposed to have sex until you're married.
That you'll get pregnant and regret your life choices for
nine years? Yeah, she she says in a Couch
interview that being chased is atenant of their faith, and not
(28:23):
being chased LED her down nine years of hell.
Hell. Don't, don't.
And then she says when I found out I was pregnant I was so
scared. She goes on to say that when he
asked me to marry him, I said yes.
I was trying so hard to love my husband at that time.
(28:45):
She was devastated by the news. Devastated.
Yes. But Dayton was the best thing
that ever happened to her. And they're showing pictures of
Dayton as a baby across the screen at this time.
And I harken back to how can youtalk shit about your child's dad
like this? How can you bring your child up
(29:05):
into a situation like this? You're literally putting
pictures of your mistake across the screen and like spelling it
out for us that this was your biggest mistake of your life.
But Oh well, it turned out OK because it was Dayton.
But you still were part of the biggest mistake of my life.
Yeah, yeah. It's so fucked up.
Self esteem booster. But Robyn, you know what she
(29:28):
did? She turned that around and she
made a promise to God and she heard back from God.
God told her. You know what, Robyn?
If you're willing to Share your story with others, with
children, in particular those that we can have avoid making
the biggest mistake of their life by giving away their
purity, then you could help others and all could be forgiven
(29:50):
and you'll be on a better path.
I have something to say here,
Christopher.
I never told her to share her
story.
In fact, I told her not to share
her stupid goddamn story.
And that bitch just never
listens to me.
She pretends she listens, but
has she ever really listened?
(30:14):
I don't think so.
Oh, thanks for visiting us, God.
Thank you.
Thank you for that tidbit, holy
Moses.
Well, the truth.
The truth.
You are in church right now and
that was the word according to
God, Holy Moses.
Wow.
We find out that she sat down
(30:35):
with the adults and told them
all the story about having to
get married and her child that
she almost had out of wedlock.
And they do show us some clips, you know, from the first season
where the family is getting
together for the first time.
So we're finding out that
basically back when they met,
(30:56):
she confessed her sins to the
other wives before being brought
in to the family.
Something along the lines of
letting them know what they were
getting themselves into.
Now when I hear getting yourself
into, I think more about her
crazy, out of control debt that they're going to have to pay
off.
I think about how they're going
to have to work to support her
fucking lazy ass.
(31:17):
I don't think that getting
themselves into was welcoming 3
wonderful children into their
family.
It was taking care of this adult
moron who is like, I gave away
my purity.
My children are not mistakes.
It was just a big mistake.
Like, Oh my God, woman.
It's she's always, there's
always this positioning with her
where it's never what it really is.
It's never what it really is.
And Kody buys it hook, line and
(31:41):
sinker.
Well, it was all a setup, right?
It was all her setting up her
side of the story from the get
go.
Like the woe is me character,
the pick me girl.
Like oh Oh yeah this is my sad
sob story.
Like feel bad for me.
And now my favorite part of
Robyn's purity sermon.
(32:01):
The story of the second girl.
Ho ho ho.
The second girl saved her purity
and was able to give it to the
man she loves.
Pause turns to Kody.
This is yours.
Literally hands the Locket to
Kody as if it is a precious
Pearl, the biggest diamond in
(32:23):
the world.
Well, it is her purity, worth
more than any jewel on the
planet.
And she says, this is my gift to
you, my purity.
The ultimate gift, and it's
yours.
And it's yours and I'm going.
So the second story is that
she's this girl who's real but
made-up, gave her purity to her
(32:44):
husband.
And that's the story.
And the way that she does it in front of the other wives is
mind blowing to me.
She is standing in this room in
front of this man's other wives,
demonstrating how she wishes
she could have given her purity to
him.
And in a way, the way that it
worked, it was very symbolic.
(33:04):
I think in her head and in his
head, they were living a moment
of her being like in an
alternate universe, actually,
after God, you know, reinstated my purity.
Now I'm giving it to you
symbolically in front of all of
your children and your wives.
It's gross.
It is so creepy.
I wanted to vomit.
(33:25):
Yeah, it was disgusting.
Well, they should have prefaced
this second part of the story
with what Kody says next in his
interview because Kody says that
he wanted her to share the
story.
Because you can be atoned by God
and get your purity back.
And he feels like Robyn has
atoned for this and had received
her purity back and was
(33:47):
actually able to give it to Kody.
OK, you guys are nuts. Yeah, that would have made more
sense to put in before Robyn's second story of the true Lie
Girl, because without it, even with it, it's disturbing.
But without it, it's even more disturbing.
It's just like, are you reenacting you guys fucking for
(34:10):
the first time but with God's permission?
Like, it's just bizarre. They're pretending like, and
this is just so grossing me but I'm so sorry, this is what I
imagine in my mind. I imagine them together for
their first time, kneeling on the ground and praying to God.
Please reinstate Robyn's virginity for this holy
(34:30):
matrimonial act that we are about to perform together.
And like, I imagine them doing some weird sort of like thing
like that to get her purity backso she can just give it to the
one true love of her life that she was supposed to, to give it
to Them's the vibes here. Part of that.
I'm not liking it. Part of that prayer was God.
(34:50):
I've got your tool here, and I'mready to spread my seed.
I mean your seed. But Robyn, you know, she's a
dirty whore, so we need you to give her back her purity.
And yeah. And then they did.
Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
And, you know, said hocus pocus, bibbity, bibbity boop.
And all of a sudden she was pureagain.
And it was wonderful. So when we return back to Robyn
(35:14):
in front of the crooked mantle, she says all I ask of you is to
protect your purity. Make a choice today Make the
choice today to protect your purity.
It's also manipulative, pushing children like.
Make the promise today to stay chaste like it's, it's a
(35:36):
manipulation tactic in religionsto put choices like this, like
on children and say, oh, you make this choice.
You make this promise to God today, not to break it.
It is a manipulation tactic because then if the child goes
and you know, does this thing, then they're going to feel
guilty. Oh, remember that day that we
sat in our family church and youmade that promise to God that
(35:59):
day and you broke it? Yeah, like, well, it's weird
because there's the flip side ofa coin here.
People generally don't want their children that aren't
adults having sex. So while I agree with you, it's
a manipulation tactic, I also feel like most parents when they
have particularly young teens or teenagers feel a bit helpless
(36:23):
about preventing their children from having sex.
And so it's like a tool in the tool belt or it's like a thing.
And particularly if they're
brainwashed, if they're
literally like, I'm delulu, I'm
crazy, then it's just more crazy
to pass around.
But I feel bad for parents that are trying to hoping that their
kids abstain from sex.
But there's only so much you can
do about it.
And it's such a tricky thing.
(36:46):
Like I, I don't have kids and I don't have daughters,
especially because that purity is worth so
much more than
that tool of God. And so I don't know.
But I imagine if I did have a daughter, I'd be like, I need
you to at least wait till college because I can't think
about you having sex when you'rein like, I just, I want you to
not be in my home. I want you to be a person out in
the world. But like, that's not real.
Most people that I know had sex before they were out of their
(37:10):
parents house and I don't know, it's just weird.
I don't know. Sorry.
I'm going, I'm going. Totally detracting.
Us Tell your kids not to do today.
They will want to do tomorrow. The best that you can do is prep
them for success. They're going to want to The
hormones are a raging. The only thing you can do is
prepare them for the safest possible options and hope that
(37:34):
they make the right decisions based on what beliefs you have
instilled in them and morals. And I think that going into
parenthood with the mindset of I'm going to be able to control
my child is just that's just not going to happen.
That's just never going to happen.
And if you really want little beings that you can control,
(37:54):
like get a dog, get a cat. I don't know because.
You're not another human. Yeah, you're supposed to be
raising your children to be self-sufficient people that
think for themselves and they'rethey're going to be horny like
they're going to be. Fucking horny.
And so you got to set them up for success and teach them the
right way to take care of themselves and just hope that
they make the best decisions forthemselves and be there for them
(38:18):
if and when they don't make the decision you hoped they
would have.
Made which will happen?
It will happen. And the more that you're not
forthcoming and talk about this stuff with your kids, the more
they're going to hide it from you and the more harm that can
happen will happen. So just having that open
communication about it is the only thing you can do to keep
(38:40):
them safe. Any who going on a tangent about
parenting and teaching about, well, listen.
Robyn's sermon has touched us. We are literally touched by the
word of Robyn. Yes, yes.
Touched in our wet caramel, we get a couch moment with some of
the teenagers and Hunter tells us that while he agrees with
Robyn, theoretically, he feels it's most important to wait to
(39:03):
have sex with someone who you actually love, and that waiting
for marriage probably isn't themost important thing.
And I like that perspective froma teenager.
You know, it's not like he's disregarding the story and
making it sound, I mean, which it is a ridiculous story and he
should be disregarding it. But his take away is the even
keeled take away of like I heardthe gist of the story.
(39:25):
I I agree that you probably justshouldn't be having sex with
someone you don't care about when you're a teenager.
So I thought that was a reasonable take away from that
sermon. Definitely.
We get a comment from Leon, of course, as we would, saying I
think that sex is something thatshould be saved for marriage.
That's it. Of course we already knew that,
(39:48):
Leon. We knew you thought that way to
let us know again. Leon's going to be a sister wife
and Leon's going to be a doctor.
A doctor and a sister wife and
I'm going to save might be
already for marriage.
For my husband.
All right, Leon.
And now we cut to a potluck,
Honey, A potluck.
Breakfast potluck after church.
(40:11):
That kind of activity where
everyone gathers after the.
Sermon of the Lord.
Sermon of the Lord The Lord
spoke through Robyn, and now
we're going to eat through our
mouth holes.
The family prophet Kody Brown
hath a spoken.
Now let's go and have a feast.
Yes.
So they transitioned to
Christine's, which we aren't
told, but then later I put the
(40:33):
pieces together.
That's fine.
Remember they were giving us all
those bottom thirds last few
episodes, knocking us over the
head.
But now that we're at the Brown family cul-de-sac and we're all
settled after half a month
maybe, which we figure out later
potentially, now we just should know where we are.
So I thought we were still at
Meri's.
Maybe we were, but I don't think
so, unless this was actually
two different days and they spliced
it together, those
(40:55):
motherfuckers.
But apparently we might be at
Christine's now, and there's a
bunch of food set at the island
and everyone's gathering to get their potluck, which might be
another meal on a different day.
I didn't really pay attention totheir clothes, so I don't know.
Leon announces very smugly that
they got a call from the senior advisor of admissions at
(41:16):
Westminster and they got
accepted.
Woo.
And they also got a $10,000
scholarship, no?
I'm just kidding.
Yeah.
So that covers about 1/8 of the
annual cost of Westminster at
that time.
(41:38):
You know, $10,000, nothing to
sneeze at.
Also, you're not going to pay
for your college on 10K.
So, you know, keep keep on
trucking, Leon.
You're going to be a doctor.
You got to keep working.
Now the kids are clapping and
they're enthusiastic.
And it's funny, I like this
moment because everyone in the
family is being supportive and
encouraging because as time goes
on, the years and years, it
seems like when the kids have
(42:01):
things happen, people care less.
And this is, I don't know if it's a big family dynamic, it
might be every family dynamic because I'm the oldest.
So everyone cared about what I did, of course, and praised me
and loved me and I could do no well, I did plenty wrong.
But there's this enthusiasm, blah, blah, blah.
By the time Gabe goes to college, you think anybody gave
a fuck? You think anybody gave him a
(42:23):
clap or a Hoo ha or a excitementfor you?
I don't think so. I don't think anybody.
I don't think we're I don't think we're filming it.
I don't think we're talking about it.
There's nothing. So these older kids and I don't
know if it's just the positioning of the show, you
know that it's a storyline that something's happening, we're
going to cover it or if it's just the way families progress.
But these older kids like Logan
going to school, there was
multiple episodes, there was
(42:43):
parties trying to convince him
to stay.
And here's Leon making an
announcement and everyone's
celebrating or whatever.
When Isabel went to college, I
think they had like a waving
from the driveway moment or
something, You know, I mean,
like, no one.
It's just weird.
It just stood out to me as
someone who's watched the show
before.
That's why we get into the talks
about like how selfish it is
(43:04):
to have this many children because
you can give less and
less of yourself to each child as you go
through life.
Like you're spreading yourself
too thin.
Like every child should get pat on the back and a big going
away for going to college.
It shouldn't get less and less.
That to me is sad.
Like that is really sad.
I know it just it's not
addressed in this episode.
(43:25):
It just stood out to me as
something where I'm like, yeah,
I noticed that weaning, weaning,
weaning as years go, waning,
waning, waning as years go on.
Yeah, Kody has to give us his
comment about the $10,000 and
how $10,000 towards tuition is a
big deal.
I'm glad they got the
scholarship.
OK, that wasn't Kody's.
(43:48):
They paid for like half of 1
semester for their freshman
year.
Not even half, definitely a
fraction, but it's a.
We are reminded that they are
about to have five kids in
college at once.
Yes, in a couple years, 'cause
they're obviously we have Logan
in school, Leon and Aspen will
be going, and then we've got two
(44:09):
more, Mckelty and Hunter
probably.
So these kids are in a couple
years, they're going to have
five of their kids in college.
And Christine made an
interesting retort to this
point.
Well, because Kody kind of is
like Pooh poohing this and like
how difficult it's going to be
and how he's already told Leon
that they're going to need more money if they're going to go
(44:31):
there.
And he's kind of being a Debbie
Downer about the money
situation.
And Christine kind of says, hey,
hey, we used to have five kids
in diapers.
We didn't think we'd get past
the diaper phase.
We'll get past the college phase
two.
And she kind of does this like
tongue click thing like.
It was an interesting point.
(44:52):
I think I air on the side of
Christine in a bit.
I think that life's challenges
present themselves.
Sometimes you feel like you're
never going to get through or
you don't know how you're going to get through them.
And then when you look back on
it, it's like, OK, well then I
did this and I did this, or this
happened.
This person helped me.
Different things happen where
you get through things and you
know, it's kind of a big one
(45:12):
having talking about 5 kids in
college.
This is where I think she might be a little delulu because it's
like 5 kids in college is a huge
financial obligation.
It's not necessarily buying
diapers, but a young family
buying diapers for five kids.
That must have seemed in
insurmountable or like we're
never going to be able to get
through this, you know?
I get a little confused by their
(45:33):
conversations about a college
and the funding college, because
obviously they're not going to
be able to even pay 5 grand
towards all of these kids as
college tuitions.
It doesn't seem like, because
that's a lot of kids.
And I don't know, even if you
could give your kid 10 grand
towards school, that is a big
deal.
Yeah.
And when you have this many
kids, that happening is like
slim to none.
(45:56):
But you guys technically aren't all married, so the chances of
your child getting some sort of financial aid are very high.
And your kids probably going to have to take out student loans.
But it's not like your kid is
going to not be able to go to
college.
Their conversation they have
around college each time is just
kind of bizarre to me because
(46:17):
the average person does have to take out student loans.
And that's even for a family of like one or two kids, right?
So a family this large, you're
an idiot to think you're not
going to have to take out
student loans for your child.
You said it.
Yeah.
Kody is an idiot.
Yeah.
This is what unfolds through the
show is.
It's probably coming up pretty
soon because Leon's going to
(46:38):
start going to.
Yeah.
So discussions about not Co
signing for student loans and
being very opposed to this.
This is what Kody says while the
wives are trying to talk sense
into Kody and it it makes sense.
I mean, most people have student
loans because their parents
can't pay for it and they can't pay for it.
It's very basic.
Kody's Oh, you can't start life
(46:59):
out with debt.
And it's like, well, isn't that
ideal?
Wouldn't that be lovely if every
person could just start their
adult life out without debt?
You had you have 20 fucking
children.
What are you talking about?
What were you thinking?
He's such an idiot.
How do you think that's not
going to happen?
And look at where the fuck you
are are now.
But also you married a woman
with a shit ton of debt.
I would be more willing to get
in debt over my child's
education than buying porcelain
(47:21):
dolls.
But that's just me.
I don't know these guys.
Well, that's why your doll
collection is so skimpy and
cheap, honey.
That's why they all have little cracks in their faces.
That's why I'm always making fun
of you for your cheap dolls.
They're not porcelain, they're
made out of.
Those plastic and rubber dolls, they're just crap.
(47:44):
Paper mache so made them myself.
This is it. Why aren't you in more debt
Because of your dolls? I mean, Oh my.
God. Well, after this potluck,
they're going to bury a time capsule.
So now we're getting to the timecapsule.
Woo Hoo. And Kody tells everyone.
I'd like you to all get something you'd like to see in
five years, and I'm going. So he's making this
(48:05):
announcement. And it almost seems like other
than maybe the adults, and I don't even know if all the
adults knew, nobody knows this is happening.
OK, so we're doing a time capsule.
So cool. All the kids are going to scurry
through their homes and find things they want to put in this
time capsule. But before we even get to the
lovely things that the children and parents picked to put in
said time capsule, we hear a little bit from Robyn again
(48:28):
about how she's so happy that she'll be able to put something
into the ground that will be there in five years and they
will be there in five years, andshe'll be in the same home in
five years. For the first time ever, she's
going to be in a home. We have to get that little
tidbit in. Well, of course, I mean, Robyn's
ever more the victim and now she might have overcome her
(48:50):
victimhood and now she's going to be in a home for five years.
Cut to when we hear the date I'm
going.
We should actually look up and
see when they leave these homes.
Not to give too much away to people, our listeners at home
who haven't seen the show, but but are they there in five
years? I don't know.
Is that red cooler of a time capsule still buried?
(49:11):
There, that red cooler, I was going to say it was Igloo, but
then I thought, no, it's probably not.
It's probably some knock off. But, you know, we do get to the
cooler. We do get there.
Christine does tell us that she wishes they would have had their
family mission statement readyto go into the time capsule.
And I was L0L 0L0 L ING. I thought, oh, my God, I hope
(49:33):
I'm not annoying. I hope I'm not annoying, Kimber,
because I'm sitting next to you chuckling for 30 seconds.
I was like, what on God's green earth are you talking about?
Yeah. Why are you doing a time capsule
before your mission statement is able to even go in it?
Why? Like you're being forced to do
this now, this day, at this time.
Like it couldn't wait a month until you have your family
(49:53):
mission statement. These guys and they're weird
timelines that they put on themselves where they need to do
stupid shit like a time capsule, but they don't need to
finish stupid shit like their
family mission statement.
It's like, what are these timelines you give yourselves?
Just like driving to Nauvoo overhow many freaking.
Days. Are you idiot?
Yes, absolutely. Oh my.
(50:15):
God, absurd. No planning.
And I'm imagining when you were saying that I was, I had a
visual in my head of one of the producers coming with a gun and
being like you were doing a time capsule and you're doing it
this week.
Like what?
On Gun Screen Earth, you've already talked about the mission
statement from multiple episodes.
You've had at least two meetingsat this point to craft it and
you haven't done that. But let's make sure we get our
(50:35):
time capsule into a cooler and buried in the backyard.
Like what the fuck? In like the middle of January or
February, mind you, because they've been in the homes for
like roughly a month at this point, right?
So why are you doing it right now anyway?
Yeah, it's very important. It's very important.
It gets in the ground. Well, hot off of Christine's
comment about the time capsule and their missing mission
(50:57):
statement, they cut to the couchfor a fab To Be Less Precious
Pearl, where Leon says that a family mission statement is
stupid because they're not a business, they're a family.
Which I love because it's just more Debbie Downer vibes from
Leon. We get plenty of that.
Thank you, Leon. Kind of chiding Leon like, why
do you think this is so stupid? And then Leon has to say, well,
(51:19):
because we're a family, not a business.
Like Oh my God, get off your fucking high horse.
Yet again Leon trying to seem like the smartest one in the God
damn room. OK.
Leon Buzzkill Brown hit us. Leon the Buzzkill.
Wisdom. Leon's going to be a doctor.
So then we cut to everyone following Kody carrying his red
(51:40):
plastic cooler to the backyard. And it's one of those red
coolers that has a white top andthe white handle, and it looks
like you're bringing it to the beach or the boat or wherever
you bring a cooler camping, blah, blah, blah.
I have to mention that Hunter decides to put a wrestling one
of his wrestling metals in the time capsule, which I thought
was cute. That is cute.
And something that's not so cute, Meri puts in a My sister
(52:04):
wife's closet necklace. Yes, and I didn't catch the
other things, but those were thetwo that drew my attention.
That's funny, if the wrestling metal was made out of plastic,
it was probably still more valuable than my sister wife's
closet jewelry. Not today, though, because I'd
pay money for that jewelry. I know, right?
So the family has followed Kody to the backyard, and he starts
(52:25):
digging a hole with a pickaxe like he's burying one of their
dead animals. Drake.
Poor Drake. That was the name of the dog we
couldn't remember the other day.
And so Kody's back there digging
with a pickaxe.
But during this time, oh, some
of the kids have left because
turns out they didn't want to
stand around and watch their dad
digging a hole.
And he points out, oh, well, my
(52:48):
boys aren't here to help me dig this hole.
Hole.
No one wants to help with this.
It's like, yeah, nobody cares.
And then they show Hunter and
Peyton, I think both on their
phones, laying on couches,
Literally, the kids are
disseminated.
They don't give a fuck.
It's weird because before they
even show them digging the hole,
they show all of the family
(53:09):
together, like with these
plastic cups of juice and they
they go hip hip.
Hooray.
Like cheers, their juice cups.
And then we get Kody digging
this hole alone.
It's like, what were you guys
just hip, hip hurraying about?
Go dig the fucking hole.
Right, they hip, hip, hurray.
And then he's alone in the
(53:30):
backyard, but not unsupervised
because standing next to him is
the leader of the pack, Meri
Brown.
If you want something done
right, have Meri Brown watch you
do it.
That's what I always say.
Oh, God.
So Meri and Kody are there
together alone and he's
pickaxing into the ground and
she's just standing there
looking beautiful.
(53:54):
And Kody takes a break and says we need to talk about the baby
decision.
Yep, of course he needs an
answer on that baby stuff.
The baby business.
Yeah, the baby stuff, he
literally says the word stuff
and it's so great because he
goes back to digging.
And Meri, oh, bless her heart.
I love Meri.
Sometimes I just love her, she
says.
(54:14):
When we talk about this, I need you to be involved in the
conversation.
He flips his head up and looks
at her like Shaggy from
scooby-doo.
Like nothing behind the eyes
except for like.
Vacant, vacant look dumb as shit
standing there like he was
(54:37):
picking, shoveling whoops his
head up stops and there's
literally a Dun Dun from the
music.
Like, are you fucking kidding?
Me, I just imagined Shaggy from
Scooby-doo going.
Yeah, Scooby, what are we?
Doing.
I feel like Scooby's the one
that makes the noise.
Yeah, there is.
(54:58):
I don't.
I don't.
Know true?
One of them does, and he's one
of the two.
He's the one of the two.
Kody's either the dog or the
dumb guy that had the dog, and
it's true it it literally looked
like a cartoon.
He was wearing his guest shirt.
Dig in that hole and Meri was wearing a yellow blouse with all
of these not ruffles, but likelittle flowers that look like
(55:19):
ruffles. Yeah, little circles of like
some other type of material thatlike fluttered in the wind.
Cascaded down her shirt. It was very interesting they got
they were looking pretty good for digging a hole.
Except for Kody. Never looks good but you know he
was wearing another guest shirt.
Shout out to our listener who
pointed out the guest at the
very beginning when we thought
it might have been Prada.
(55:40):
Yeah, and this one is a blatant guest shirt.
They actually show the logo,
which I'm surprised by.
Yeah, they make their choices
about whether to blur that out
or not.
Yeah.
It's a little odd and it's kind of like this weird purpley
color as.
Well, black lettering, yeah, it
was not attractive, but
whatever.
It's an odd choice.
And then of course Meri has to
(56:02):
rehash all the crap we've
already lived through.
Watching them hem and Haw about this baby decision.
It's like, God, I don't want to hear about this anymore.
I'm so over.
It Oh yeah, she has to let us
know how emotional it's been
trying to decide if they want to
go through with all of the
medical stuff to have a baby.
Yawn.
Who cares?
Yeah.
And then all of a sudden,
(56:23):
everybody is surrounding Meri
and Kody again, back at the big
hole he's dug for their time
capsule.
Oh.
And what day are we going to
open this time capsule on?
No sooner than Civil Rights Day
2018, which Meri is reading from
a piece of paper taped to the
(56:44):
outside of the cooler.
And I thought, you know, a
family.
What is this called?
A time capsule?
Yeah.
I probably would have selected
something other than a plastic
cooler.
I don't know.
You know, it works.
Maybe.
Maybe it works.
I don't think we'll ever know.
Think it fully seals.
I feel like you're going to open
that up in five years and
there's going to be bugs and
weird shit in there with it.
Who knows?
(57:07):
But the IT just, it's one of
those things where if I, well,
if I was going to be doing this,
which I probably never would,
I would find something cute and Saran wrap or like, you know,
you have to make it OK to go in the ground.
Maybe even an urn for God's
sake.
Like anything would have been
better than this.
I don't think this seals like a Tupperware would have been
better than this probably.
Yeah, and it's got a piece of
(57:28):
paper taped to it, which they
probably taped the whole outside
of the paper, but let's be real,
it's a piece.
It's like written with Sharpie.
Like you couldn't even put something nice on it.
There is a bunch of sharpie written all over the cooler as
well. Yeah, it's just trashy.
It's terrible. Now I'm going to look up Civil
Rights Day. I'm wondering if the Civil
(57:50):
rights Day is to align with their whole, like we're going to
be going against the state of Utah for violating our civil
rights. Like I think they're kind of
incorporating that. Why don't they ever make
connections like fully for the viewer?
Like they just can't do that. You're just.
Supposed to summarize it I guess.
Like, what a dumb day to pick. It's not even Joseph Smith's
(58:10):
birthday. Come on.
Well, Civil Rights Day is traditionally commemorated on
January 15th to honor Martin Luther King.
So obviously a tie in to civil rights with Martin Luther King.
But I think their tie in is
really that they are suing the
state of Utah for violating
their civil rights as
polygamists.
(58:32):
Watching another day of rights
for their needs.
Well, Robyn had a dream, you
know, and this was this was her
dream.
She did.
It's all coming full circle to.
Bury a cooler in the backyard. Oh lordy.
Oh Lord my God. Now let's see when the Browns
move out of these houses, OK? So January 15th of 2018 is when
(58:56):
this was supposed to be open. Yes.
So they've been in the homes about half a month, yeah.
So when I looked up when the Browns leave their homes on the
cul-de-sac, it is roughly summer of 2018.
So it would be after this they're supposed a date where
they're going to take up the what is this thing called Time
(59:16):
capsule? Time capsule?
I don't know why I can't remember that term.
Oh, I wonder if we're going to get a digging up of the time
capsule. This is it.
I don't recall from my watching before.
I don't remember it, so I assumed that they didn't, which
is why maybe the. Shit's just ruined so they can't
use the footage. This is like full of maggots.
Like, oh, our lives are rotting away like our time capsule.
(59:38):
I hope Hunter's medal is OK. Oh, that's all I hope.
Probably. Rusted.
Oh God. So to wrap up the episode, Kody
brings us back to Meri's baby decision and shares some
touching thoughts and some deep, deep, deep feelings here.
More like a cryptic message. What does Kody tell us, darling
(01:00:00):
Kody? Says it's about halfway into the
month and it's just sort of time to make that decision.
I don't know which way she's leaning, but there's a lot of
thoughts in my head that have been adjusting, so we'll see
what we come up with. Next week on Sister Wives, like
(01:00:26):
that was the end of the episodeand that was that.
There are quotes sometimes, and I shit you not, we're writing
them down word for word. Sometimes.
Are just so prick and weird and nonsensical and my guess is that
he's talking about how they said when they moved into the
(01:00:47):
homes that this was when the
decision is going to be made and
he's been so dead set on
having a deadline.
OK well it's halfway into the month.
We've been into the homes looking at my watch here halfway
through the month. Hello hello Meri need my
decision and my thoughts in my head have been adjusting.
Right. So you've changed your mind
(01:01:08):
about wanting a baby with Meri, is my reading between the lines
there. How do you not know which way
she's leaning? Because they don't see each
other and they don't talk. How does a husband not know
which way their wife is leaning about having a baby after all
this fucking time? All this hashing it out, I don't
(01:01:30):
know what way she's leaning. It's like they're picking out a
paint color. I don't know if she's leaning
more towards the blue or the purple.
But we've been talking about it for five years, beating you over
the head with it. So unfortunately, we're going to
hear more about Meri's baby decision coming up.
I just. I hope it's the end.
I'm so over it. I'm so over.
(01:01:50):
It I hope that next episode we get this big old baby decision
and we can just put this bitch to rest.
Just like the dogs, Just like this time capsule we're going.
To bury this. Decision in the yard.
Bury this decision. Be done with it.
Yeah, put Meri's baby decision next to Drake and.
Put it to rest. Let's move on.
(01:02:12):
Yeah. All right, darling, So you know
what time it is. It's time for mustard seed and
shit stain. Who are you going to give your
mustard seed to this episode? Who really spoke to you in a
positive way? Well, my mustard seed is going
to go to Hunter because I thought that Hunter's comment
(01:02:35):
about being in a long term relationship and a loving
relationship should be the premise of whether you decide to
have sexual relations with a woman or not.
Sexual relations with that woman.
I think that given what they were just subjected to by Robyn,
(01:02:55):
he didn't let it brainwash himand had a good insight still
into reality. I also thought it was pretty
adorable that Hunter put a wrestling trophy into the time
capsule. I thought that was.
Yeah, definitely stole my mustard seed on this one for
(01:03:17):
sure. There weren't a lot of options.
It's kind of a weird episode.
We just heard a lot from Robyn, which isn't going to help
anybody.
No, unfortunately.
I'm going to give my mustard
seed to Christine.
Another Christine mustard seed.
Wow. Definitely a lot did not happen
in this episode. I appreciated her reference to
getting over challenging times and getting through hard times,
(01:03:40):
particularly when it comes to finances.
Most of us have had highs and lows when it comes to money and
the lows can be very scary. It can feel all-encompassing.
It has made people literally take their own lives because of
financial situations. So to be hearing your husband
(01:04:00):
talking about the hard times that are coming up and to
default, to remember we've been there before and we got through
it is a well adjusted perspective.
Even if I feel like it's diminishing, you know, the
actual efforts that it will taketo finance college.
I like that she said that. I feel like that's a good
(01:04:21):
reminder when you're talking about finances.
When Kody has referenced that Christine doesn't have her sunny
disposition anymore and that Christine has changed, but then
you see moments like this whereChristine is being like the
levity in the situation and trying to be the one with the
sunny disposition. Like, look, we have these
struggles, but there's a bright side to all of it.
(01:04:43):
And we'll make it out, you know,to the other side.
And I think he just doesn't appreciate her anymore because
he doesn't recognize that she still does have this sunny
disposition when it comes to trying to move the family
forward. And I think that he just doesn't
see it anymore. I think he's just not
appreciating her anymore. So he's missing moments like
(01:05:07):
this where she is sunny disposition Christine.
Sure. Yeah.
And now the ones that should be pretty easy for us, shit stain.
And honey, you know, ladies
first always on this podcast.
We respect women on this
podcast.
So your shit stain, gosh.
Well, it's pretty obvious that
each of us is going to pick, you
(01:05:27):
know, one or the other here as
per usual, and it's.
The leaderboard has these. 2 on it.
It's just a matter of which one you want to lay it out for.
Oh my God, obviously.
Given that you were born with a
vagina and that you probably
gave away your purity in a
(01:05:48):
disgusting manner, I think that you probably identify with
Robyn's story.
So maybe, maybe you should pick
Robyn.
Of course it's Robyn for me, of
course, and mostly just because of the like internalized
misogyny here and the fact that she thinks herself worth is
dependent on her virginity and
that her children's worth is
(01:06:08):
dependent on their virginity.
And that they're going to be
less of a person and less to
give away to a spouse if they do
this horrible thing that she
did.
And she's dragging her husband
as per usual and she drags her
son into it this time and how he
was a mistake and thank God
she ended up loving him because he's
ended up being one of the
best things in my life, but he was
still a mistake.
(01:06:31):
She's everything about her just pissed me off in this episode.
And I could go on and on and on about the virginity talk and
the giving up your virginity, the
losing your purity, and
how disgusting that language is when
it comes to talking about
women that way.
I'll just leave it at that
because I think that people know
where we stand on that topic,
(01:06:54):
and I don't want to proselytize to people or get on my soapbox
about it.
This was 2013 when this aired.
This way of thinking is still so
pervasive, and just like
diminishing women's value is
still so pervasive in our
country that it just pisses me
off to watch this.
And yeah, that's all I'll say.
Yeah, and all of the coded
(01:07:17):
language that speaks to the
misogyny in our culture and not
even being part of this cult
where they can talk about this
in an episode and not really
even say what happened.
They don't say that Robyn had
sex and she got pregnant.
And like, they don't actually
use the language of what
happened.
It's all this like metaphoric,
you know, purity and blah, blah,
blah.
(01:07:39):
And it's just it's gross.
And it's gross that I followed
it.
Like I'm like, yeah, I, I, we
all.
Knew what it was about.
We all knew.
What it was about?
And oh hey, in case we didn't
make this clear enough, the
story is about her.
Both stories are about her.
Like what the fuck was that?
Both of these made-up real
stories from made-up real girls.
That didn't even flow. Yeah, I know it was.
(01:08:00):
She's such an idiot. The throwing and the clanking of
the Locket on the ground carpet.
It made that much noise on
carpet.
Bitch, get out of town.
Biggest mistake of all, Robyn,
when you threw it on the ground,
you didn't say and then I
threw it on the ground, Lonely Island
style.
(01:08:21):
Missed opportunity.
Missed opportunity.
So my shit stain this week has
to go to Kody Brown, of course,
Robyn's partner in crime.
His belief in Robyn's story, You
know that he's obviously super
into the idea of her having to
be reborn as a pure woman before
he could use his tool on her.
(01:08:43):
And then sitting there next to
her during the sermon and
receiving her gift.
And he was very somber during
the entire thing.
It's like he was looking at her,
looking at the ground, looking
at her.
Some of the other wives that
they were giving a sermon.
I would suspect that he would
interrupt with his own little
two cents about what it should
be or what it means.
(01:09:04):
Or let me tell you what she
said.
Let me summarize it for you.
Instead.
It was Robyn's sermon, so he sat
there very respectfully, even
though it was the one sermon
that probably should have been
interrupted.
You share your shame, darling,
and you share your mistakes and I'm going to sit here and share
in your shame with you and I'm
here for you.
It gave me really weird vibes.
Yeah, proud of the shame sharing
(01:09:26):
for sure.
Almost feels forced and like
he's forcing her hand because
she should be ashamed of this
and thank God she's done the
work so that she could give me
her purity again.
It's it's got gross vibes.
And then of course, the talk
about financing for college.
(01:09:46):
He's just always looking on the dark side, making things harder
for people than they need to be and then holding them to these
standards that are not even
necessary and hard and
challenging.
And of course, trying to dig a
hole in the backyard by himself and looking ridiculous.
And the whole ending about
Meri's baby decision and how he
(01:10:08):
already probably thinks she
shouldn't do it, which they're
avoiding saying, they're both
avoiding saying for this
storyline.
I guess I don't really know.
But he's alluding to the fact
that he's having, what does he
say?
His thoughts are adjusting.
So, you know, who knows what the
fuck that means?
And that it's been half a month since they moved in.
So obviously it's time to have
that conversation.
(01:10:29):
You've gone back and forth on
this for five years and now it's
half a month in?
Got to make that decision, Buck.
Kody.
The whole thing's gross and Kody
gets my shit stain.
Are they setting Leon up for
another meltdown, breakdown,
disappointment by not just being
honest and saying you cannot
afford to go to this school?
A $10,000 scholarship isn't
going to get you Jack shit.
(01:10:52):
You need to look at other
schools.
Only time will tell, darling.
Our keep Sweet moment this week
comes to us from a comment on
Spotify from Meg's Over Easy,
which I love.
Meg's Over easy and Meg's Over
Easy said on our second episode of season 6, Four Lives of
Kody's Wives.
Meri being too busy masturbating
(01:11:16):
while talking to strangers
online may be cackle out loud.
Also, the other wives don't
watch Christine's kids.
What about their dad?
He can't help out either.
Trash.
Agree agree.
So it's supposed to be the other
wives responsibilities to
watch Christine's kids while she's
doing things?
What about their fucking father?
(01:11:36):
Hello Amazing point Megs. We megs megs amazing point
because we didn't actually say that.
We talked about the other wives watching the kids and it's like
what about their fucking dad? Hello.
True, True. True.
Great point, and we are glad that you got a cackle out of
Meri masturbating while talking to strangers online, because
rumor has it, but that's very true.
(01:11:57):
A rumour has it. A rumour has it.
